You could never call the Fletcher Christian a cosy pub. It is a large, modern bar with background music and multiple televisions showing sport in abundance. In pubs like this it really depends on who else is in at any particular time and we were perhaps unlucky to have to negotiate smokers congregating on the front door step and then being sat near a bunch of blokes whose language was both loud and ripe. Our lagers however were crisp and fresh and the service friendly and efficient.

The Fletcher Christian is a roomy pub in the modern style, with sport on multiple televisions and rock music on the sound system. It’s a nicely ordinary pub where folk come for a few pints and whereas some would decry the lack of real ales, I accept that there are different pubs for different moods and tastes, and when we came in I was more than happy to enjoy a couple of simple pints of lager and watch a bit of football. It was busy when we were in and great credit to the lass behind the bar who handled it all with a cheery smile.

AVIOD this pub at whatever cost. The only thing about this pub is the price of drinks which attract the lower standard of human being. Most look like they come off the local council estate grubby unwashed hair most gobby and smokers. What is more concerning they have NO Covid precautions in place? NO track and trace the sanitizer bottle empty but more importantly NOBODY what so ever wearing face masks??? Their were groups of people about forty in all none of which were wearing masks bar staff nothing and the glass collector had a mask but pulled down under his chin. When I went to the bar they all looked at me as if I was weird absolutely no regard to Covid precautions. This pub I feel was privately owned but was just like a Hungry Horse of Witherspoons and as we all know with cheap prices it attracts the down and out. You may ask what was me and my partner vacating this hostelry well once in it was one drink and off. we are today taking a lateral flow test so AVOID AT ALL COST

The Fletcher Christian is a large pub with a modern decor but no trendy pretentions. It’s a pub where locals come to enjoy beer while watching sport on telly or listening to music on the jukebox. It was quite busy when we were in but the service was swift and the atmosphere lively and good natured.

Popped in for a few drinks and seemed pleasant enough. Had a lot of huge TV screens which meant it was more of a sports bar which is fine if you’re into that.

Not a pleasant experience. We just went in for a drink on a night out, and it was terrible. I hate to say it, but had a "Low-end" feel and some of the clientele were noisy, drunk and aggressive. perhaps its just that kind of bar?

In the past I had generally found the FC to be a good place to visit but on my recent visit all this has changed. The treatment of a customer I witnessed whose drink had been taken from in front of her by a staff member, (she didn't notice as she was looking away talking to someone) was argued with and made to look a liar. They did admit to taking the tonic water but not a drink. As I was actually on the same table I vowed for her and had the same treatment. The lady and her friend decided to leave. I was then accosted by three very obnoxious customers and was then asked to leave. The complaint was one that could and should have been dealt with simply and with respect. However, quite the opposite happened and I can only say that the establishment has changed very much for the worse. Probably the worst pub in Cockermouth.

Whilst in the Cumbria area visiting the brewery we decided to take a walk around Cockermouth. Several of the pubs we checked out had stopped serving food but we came upon the Fletcher Christian. I ordered a hot dog in a baguette, my husband opted for the hot beef sandwich. After about 10 minutes we were informed that there were no fried onions for either of the meals as the kitchen had run out. When the food arrived my hot dog was served in a soft, long life, hot dog roll and the hot dog was dubious. My husbands 'hot beef' was inedible as it seemed to be left over roast beef reheated till it was as dry as shoe leather. The bread was thin, dry 'frozen and defrosted in micro' (best guess) and had mould on it. We complained to the young boy in the bar who bolted upstairs whilst we were still talking to him...we left.

We called in for lunch one Saturday lunch in October. It looks like the place has been recently refurbished. My wife ordered a prawn in marie sauce sandwich for herself and my mother. She also asked if I could have a tuna salad without mayonnaise and the bar girl said yes. When the food arrived the sandwiches were quite nice but my salad was of tuna mayonnaise and turned out to be a de-constructed tuna sandwich with a bit of lettuce. I couldn't be bothered complaining so ate the salad as it was. As we were the only people eating you would have thought they could have managed to get the one order they had right. But no!

Had the pleasure of finding this place a couple of weeks ago and what a find it was. Place was packed but the staff welcomed us like locals and we were given a table straight away. Weather was rubbish ( as usual for summer ) and the staff took our coats and hung them up to dry for us. We ordered drinks and looked at the menu and specials board but there was so much choice we will have to go back and try them all if what we had are of the same standard. I chose a burger and it was one the nicest juciest burgers ive ever had and very filling and welcomed after a long day walking in the area.Prices are what you would expect for this type of place however the quality was outstanding. We noticed taht the also have entertainment on some nights with live bands and music, also quiz nights which we will try out when next in the area. If you are in the Cockermouth area this place is well worth a visit and cant wait for our

My husband, myself and our 13 year old son visited The Brasserie two days ago on a Saturday evening. We were able to walk from our cottage accomadation to the Brasserie. On arrival to the venue we were very impressed by the beautiful driveway leading down to the Brasserie. The whole establishment is obviously very well kept with beautiful spring flowers and plants and lovely lighting down the drive. On entering the Brasserie however, we were suprised that the decor didnt appear to match the rest of the hotel. We were approached by a friendly waiter on arrival who took our drinks and food order promptly. He checked we were all ok during the first half of our meal and we felt his interactions with us were appropriate, not too overpowering or disinterested. My husband ordered the mushroom stroganoff. He felt it was quite ordinary and bland. I ordered the brushetta and a side portion of fries. I felt the brushetta was overpriced but the fries were beautiful. My son ordered the pizza which he said was really tasty! During the meal.another member of staff( female) arrived and we have to say it was quite an experience! We had ordered a second round of drinks. I had ordere a lakes gin and a small bottle of fever tree ginger ale to mix it with. I was allowing my son to taste the ginger ale from the bottle. The waitress appeared out of nowhere and snatched the bottle from his hand with a resounding"no!" It shocked us all! We reassured her that this was not an alcoholuc drink. She then commented in quite a rude manner when my husband wiped his nose gently on a napkin and also told us later on during the meal that she was used to working in the " posh restaurant". During our meal she stood over us on several.occasions which we felt was inappropriate and a bit unnerving! We felt she would benefit from some more training from more experienced members of staff. We did realise she was young and and was probably trying to.please (.a little too much). We were very patient with her but felt there may be future guests who may not be quite so tolerant! A little later during the evening my husband and our son went to use the toilet closest to the Brasserie. They came back and both told me there was smashed glass on the floor and a dirty nappy. My husband reported this to a member of staff from the spa team. On leaving the Brasserie we walked through to the hotel reception as we were all so concerned about the state of the toilet and wanted to ensure it had been sorted and the message had got trough. The lady on hotel reception didnt appear to know anything about this but we did see her promptly speaking to another hotel member of staff after our conversation. The only other disappointing part to.our meal was the cheeseboard. It sounded fantastic on the Brasserie menu but when it arrived we were informed that some of the cheeses were not available. The waiter did however add a few extra for us but we felt this could have been mentioned before we went ahead with the order. Sadly it was a disappointing experience as it could be a fabulous setting within the grounds of an obviously gorgeous hotel.

We were staying in Keswick on the first of November 2024 to celebrate two 50th birthday’s. Keswick was extremely busy and four eating establishments we went to couldn’t accommodate our party of seven. However the Lake road inn had vacant tables which was great and now I understand why. It was 2.30pm and the kitchen was closing at 5.00pm so they explained the menu was limited (fair enough). After viewing the limited menu we decided it couldn’t accommodate our party so thought we would have a drink whilst booking another venue on line for an hours time. Ordered a Guinness then a glass of Malbec. No Malbec and then discovered a lot of the ales were unavailable too. We decided this just wasn’t for us and said to the bar it doesn’t matter and left. We were chased across the pub by a member of staff with a card reader to pay for the half Guinness that was settling (the first drink on my order) he said I had to pay as it was wastage? Like nothing ever gets spilt behind the bar??.I reluctantly paid for it and asked for an additional empty half glass in order to share it so we could quickly move on. We moved out side and found the empty half glass was dirty and the Guinness had a black hair in the head. We poured it down the drain. We love Keswick and the people are lovely, friendly and accommodating. So please don’t waste your money at the Lake Road Inn. There are so many better establishments than here!! Avoid!! As a party of seven there for food and drinks we would have spent £200+, so their loss!! We had a lovely meal at the Pack Horse Inn. Lamb burger special was tremendous!!! I highly recommend the Pack horse inn, the pheasant, or the George. I can only hope The lake Road Inn falls into administration and a decent proprietor takes it over. Harsh but fair.

The state of this place continues its sad decline. Standards have dropped significantly since my last visit a couple of months ago. The men's toilets are an absolute disgrace. There's one serviceable cubicle- but the toilet bowl is hanging off the wall and the door lock has been bodged up so many times it barely provides the necessary privacy. The stench from the urinals is so bad - you can tell when the toilet door opens as it wafts into the pub. Not really what you want to be smelling when you're eating and drinking- it's bad enough when you have to go to the toilet . The staff are great but completely up against it as there are so few of them. Dirty glasses pile up on tables untouched. This place is desperate for a makeover. I for one won't be rushing back. I know the beer is cheap but, I'm afraid I'd rather pay "proper pub" prices and have a degree of comfort rather than sit in a what effective looks and smells like a cattle market. Come on 'Spoons. You can do much much better than this.
