We were staying in Keswick on the first of November 2024 to celebrate two 50th birthday’s. Keswick was extremely busy and four eating establishments we went to couldn’t accommodate our party of seven. However the Lake road inn had vacant tables which was great and now I understand why. It was 2.30pm and the kitchen was closing at 5.00pm so they explained the menu was limited (fair enough). After viewing the limited menu we decided it couldn’t accommodate our party so thought we would have a drink whilst booking another venue on line for an hours time. Ordered a Guinness then a glass of Malbec. No Malbec and then discovered a lot of the ales were unavailable too. We decided this just wasn’t for us and said to the bar it doesn’t matter and left. We were chased across the pub by a member of staff with a card reader to pay for the half Guinness that was settling (the first drink on my order) he said I had to pay as it was wastage? Like nothing ever gets spilt behind the bar??.I reluctantly paid for it and asked for an additional empty half glass in order to share it so we could quickly move on. We moved out side and found the empty half glass was dirty and the Guinness had a black hair in the head. We poured it down the drain. We love Keswick and the people are lovely, friendly and accommodating. So please don’t waste your money at the Lake Road Inn. There are so many better establishments than here!! Avoid!! As a party of seven there for food and drinks we would have spent £200+, so their loss!! We had a lovely meal at the Pack Horse Inn. Lamb burger special was tremendous!!! I highly recommend the Pack horse inn, the pheasant, or the George. I can only hope The lake Road Inn falls into administration and a decent proprietor takes it over. Harsh but fair.

What on earth happened ??! My visit to Keswick in an age and amidst the maddening crowds, I spotted the Robinsons sign and like a magnet I was straight in for my first beer of the hols! Robinsons pubs are wonderful….but here, no cask :( Hugely over tapped with draught Madri (which is pretend Spanish beer, it’s Carling with a bit of extra hop oil) and also draught Carling. Thankfully there was draught Guinness which was poured well. Bar staff were great, the beer offering was terrible. I’m thinking/hoping it might have just been a delivery issue and we called on the wrong day…but half term, town was packed? Don’t let my review stop you from visiting this lovely pub - Im convinced it was merely a timing/delivery issue rather than the everyday standard offering!

Adequate food even for pub food. We ordered lasagne which wasn't too bad but the Cumberland sausage was not great. It was quite bland with a rubbery texture. Half of it was eaten as we were hungry. When the young bar tender asked if all was OK, we simply replied,"It was alright". He then repeated, "it was alright, you've eaten half of it"'as he then walked away. He was quite rude and we felt our opinion didn't really matter. Perhaps a bit of training with hospitality skills would be beneficial. We left disappointed.

Very busy day in Keswick as beautiful weather & the market was on. We stopped here when a table suddenly became available after looking around for some time to find somewhere to sit and eat. I had lasagne with chips and my husband had curry with rice. Both meals turned up so quickly! The lasagne was very hot which was nice but it was overcooked with very soggy pasta and it was quite a small portion. The garlic bread had hardly been toasted at all. The chips were ok. The curry had some nice chunks of chicken in it & a fair portion of rice. The prices seemed fair in today's climate. I don't think I'd eat there again but it's a nice pub for a drink in Keswick. Good atmosphere.

Keswick was busy but this pub had space so decided to give it a try. It’s a traditional pub with friendly staff and a good selection of drinks. We looked at the menu and all commented on it having a variety of options. We ordered a lasagne and three baguettes. Unfortunately, not a great deal was homemade (although we do acknowledge the menu didn’t state it would be) which is a shame for a cosy pub like this. The lasagne was tasty but the baguettes, despite being huge, were underwhelming and all came with frozen chips. The tuna mayo was fine but pricey. Fish fingers were 3 cheap frozen fingers which barely filled the baguette. All ate as was hungry but definitely not worth the price - sorry!

To start the staff were so friendly and very nice people! The food we were told would be a 30 mins wait which we were fine with, starters came 30 mins later. After we had to ask the staff, the mains then came well over an hour after the starters, the burger had no flavour, the bun was hard, the chips were obviously frozen and the garlic bread was not cooked properly. Oh and I found a hair in my coleslaw which also didn’t taste very nice! Could never recommend this place for food, only if you’re having drinks as the staff are lovely.

What can I say... the food didn't rock my world if I have to be honest. We knew there will be a typical pub food but I hoped it'll be better. As a vegetarian I ordered halloumi burger, just to be safe, because I thought you can't do it wrong. I tried to take a good photo but no matter what angle I tried it wasn't impressive. I had one slice of tomato, some lettuce and four slices of halloumi. The cheese doesn't look amazing but it tasted OK. The bap wasn't from the top shelf but all together it tasted ok. Addition of caramelised onions or some sauces would be better, maybe mushrooms, something which would make it more exciting. Chips were good too. My husband's steak and ale pie was good.

We ordered their fish finger baguette with tartare sauce at a cost of £11.50 what arrived were 3 budget fish fingers on a dry baguette with two little plastic sachets of tartare sauce a handful of undressed lettuce leaves and half a tomato and a couple of pieces of cucumber and a handful of oven chips. What’s wrong with that I hear you ask. No butter on bread , tartare sauce void of gherkins just very poor value for money . My advice just have a drink and stay away from fish finger baguettes

Was going to give 1 star, but upped it to two as the service was excellent. However the food was quite frankly...insulting. I ordered a cheeseburger which came with a side of chips and coleslaw and paid just shy of £17. The chips were obviously from a bag of frozen chips and the serving was tiny, the coleslaw was clearly store bought and the cheeseburger itself, the burger patty was cheap and wouldn't be surprised if it came frozen, wilted lettuce and a tiny slice of tomato. For £17 I would expect fresh cut chips, homemade slaw, fresh ground beef patty and plenty of fresh crisp salad on the burger. Oxford should put a photo of this meal in the dictionary next to the meaning of depressing.

Today we came in after 5pm for food, only a couple of other people at the bar. We where made to feel like we where a annoyance to the man behind the bar, when ordering! We ordered burgers which arrived in bread buns that I would say equals the quality from a burger van. Another man came and cleared tables nearby and never once stopped to ask if everything was ok. When leaving we walked past the pub next door which was full, which tells you everything you need to know… Such a shame.

Dropped in for a bite to eat after a trip out on Derwent Water. Living in Grasmere we regularly visit Keswick and have visited a few times only for drinks but never food. That said, we decided to have a meal and we're lucky to find a table. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and made my toddler feel welcome and excited for his chicken nuggets and chips. The tables were very sticky and I was grateful I had long sleeves I could pull down. My wife had the tomato and basil soup and sadly it was way too salty, which is saying a lot as she can be a salt fiend. I had a cheese burger with chips and slaw and found myself deeply unimpressed. A plain white bun not even toasted, thin disc burger with token cheese and some shredded iceberg lettuce and tomato. The presentation was alright but the dish just lacked a bit more care. The plus side was my boys meal which was a very good portion size and his eyes were bigger than his stomach that we brought some home for him. I'd definitely go back for pint and bowl of chips again, but not much else.

We all ordered food and it was really below average, if you hadn't paid up front you would have asked for money off. The baked potatoes were brick hard, the burgers were wafer thin, quality of a cheap frozen ones. Completely over priced for the quality of food. No coleslaw or anything with burgers, yet e were asked if we wanted it. You could get 4 Mcdonald burgers for the price of 1 burger here, you felt like you had been mugged! My husband, myself and our 13 year old son visited The Brasserie two days ago on a Saturday evening. We were able to walk from our cottage accomadation to the Brasserie. On arrival to the venue we were very impressed by the beautiful driveway leading down to the Brasserie. The whole establishment is obviously very well kept with beautiful spring flowers and plants and lovely lighting down the drive. On entering the Brasserie however, we were suprised that the decor didnt appear to match the rest of the hotel. We were approached by a friendly waiter on arrival who took our drinks and food order promptly. He checked we were all ok during the first half of our meal and we felt his interactions with us were appropriate, not too overpowering or disinterested. My husband ordered the mushroom stroganoff. He felt it was quite ordinary and bland. I ordered the brushetta and a side portion of fries. I felt the brushetta was overpriced but the fries were beautiful. My son ordered the pizza which he said was really tasty! During the meal.another member of staff( female) arrived and we have to say it was quite an experience! We had ordered a second round of drinks. I had ordere a lakes gin and a small bottle of fever tree ginger ale to mix it with. I was allowing my son to taste the ginger ale from the bottle. The waitress appeared out of nowhere and snatched the bottle from his hand with a resounding"no!" It shocked us all! We reassured her that this was not an alcoholuc drink. She then commented in quite a rude manner when my husband wiped his nose gently on a napkin and also told us later on during the meal that she was used to working in the " posh restaurant". During our meal she stood over us on several.occasions which we felt was inappropriate and a bit unnerving! We felt she would benefit from some more training from more experienced members of staff. We did realise she was young and and was probably trying to.please (.a little too much). We were very patient with her but felt there may be future guests who may not be quite so tolerant! A little later during the evening my husband and our son went to use the toilet closest to the Brasserie. They came back and both told me there was smashed glass on the floor and a dirty nappy. My husband reported this to a member of staff from the spa team. On leaving the Brasserie we walked through to the hotel reception as we were all so concerned about the state of the toilet and wanted to ensure it had been sorted and the message had got trough. The lady on hotel reception didnt appear to know anything about this but we did see her promptly speaking to another hotel member of staff after our conversation. The only other disappointing part to.our meal was the cheeseboard. It sounded fantastic on the Brasserie menu but when it arrived we were informed that some of the cheeses were not available. The waiter did however add a few extra for us but we felt this could have been mentioned before we went ahead with the order. Sadly it was a disappointing experience as it could be a fabulous setting within the grounds of an obviously gorgeous hotel.

The state of this place continues its sad decline. Standards have dropped significantly since my last visit a couple of months ago. The men's toilets are an absolute disgrace. There's one serviceable cubicle- but the toilet bowl is hanging off the wall and the door lock has been bodged up so many times it barely provides the necessary privacy. The stench from the urinals is so bad - you can tell when the toilet door opens as it wafts into the pub. Not really what you want to be smelling when you're eating and drinking- it's bad enough when you have to go to the toilet . The staff are great but completely up against it as there are so few of them. Dirty glasses pile up on tables untouched. This place is desperate for a makeover. I for one won't be rushing back. I know the beer is cheap but, I'm afraid I'd rather pay "proper pub" prices and have a degree of comfort rather than sit in a what effective looks and smells like a cattle market. Come on 'Spoons. You can do much much better than this.

Fish was cooked fresh, batter was lovely and crispy, couldn't fault it! We ate in, the tables were clean and it was nice to get in out of the elements. The free to play retro arcade machine at the back of the shop was pretty cool!
