Really good but it's too expensive

Food was microwaved, we visited Saturday 16th March 2024 I had the George burger while I did enjoy my food I’ve since had food poising from this pub, I’ve been curled over for the 48 hours I would not recommend this pub at all, no wonder the council only gave them a one star rating before Christmas. Avoid at all costs

Beautiful food at a reasonable price

Would highly recommend meals are lovely and very well priced with good portion size

Staying in Workington for one night this pub was a 5 minute walk from the b&b good food friendly staff and also dog friendly

We often pop in here for a drink on a night out. Sunday 17th December we went for lunch. Traditional homemade pub grub at its best. Great atmosphere, fantastic staff. And very reasonably priced.

Myself and my family often go here and always, always have a beautiful meal. The staff are also lovely and friendly. It's actually our favorite place to go for a meal and always our 1st choice. You keep going in there guys and gals. Your doing an amazing job. 👏

Good food good service would go again

my second time at royal george with my family and again our meals were brilliant the large portions you get are second to none and the food was superb again i had the mixed grill and really delicous again i cant wait for my next visit there

Basic no nonsense food. Filling, delicious and well priced. This is what pub food should be. The server was lovely, the burger was something else, honestly probably too much chicken if anything, well worth it.

Getting straight to the point....It doesn't have kerb appeal thanks to the peeling paint around the windows and doors. The pavement outside is littered with cigarette buts and weeds. . The food is ok. The dining room has no atmosphere. The bar area needs a good makeover. The chairs and bench seats are stained and look very grubby. The landlord, when he appears, doesn't look interested in his customers. The youngsters who serve behind the bar and take food orders do their best but don't look happy. Football and Rugby fans don't bother as they have cancelled SKY.

Went for a meal for a friend's birthday. Done expect a sizzler to conain a diced up pre cooked chicken breast and throw some sauce on it. Battered strips of pre cooked chicken.. greasy. Definitely not the best meal I have had the Workington area. Might have been an off day for the cook, but how food is cooked does need rethinking. Staff on bar were attentive though and a credit to the team, bit nippy inside though!

Best pensioners lunch in the District, from 12 to 2pm. Prompt and courteous. Tasty, quality food, generous portions; you won't find it cheaper anywhere else! A very enjoyable lunch. Another 4 happy customers😊

Visited this pub today, I should have walked out straight away as the smell amd the Miserable owner with his dirty shirt said it all. However after struggling to find somewhere that was dog friendly we stayed what a mistake that was. Woman arrived with a dirty fleece on and grease hair came to take our order no sooner had she taken it the food had arrived talk about chicken ding never received food so fast not even at McDonald's. Was disgusting to say the least, salad was limp and brown tastless lasagne never seen it look like that !!! Owner came over to 3 full plates and asked what was wrong? What was right .more like. He replied with no charge and goodbye. No sorry no nothing. We upped and left and will never ever return. Do not visit this smelly establishment

My family and I visited here on Saturday night for our tea. We were staying at Hall Park Hotel for a family party and the owner recommended The Royal George as somewhere for us to go to eat. There were 10 of us! The food was absolutely lush and didn't take very long to arrive from ordering. A lovely place that we'll defo go back to if we're in the area again

Excellent food and friendly staff is

This pub has had some stinking reviews but we found it to be very acceptable indeed. The interior is quite nice and there is a pool table and 2 dart boards. Food was generously portioned , very reasonably priced and tasty . There was nothing here not to like if you are looking for good pub fare.

Fantastic home cooked meals every time.

Called in for an evening meal after recommendation from our hotel. 2 steak and Stilton pies later, 2 very satisfied customers. Good ale, good gin and VERY reasonably price. Excellent service and very welcoming.

sign outside said pub was dog friendly, went in to check with and was told that there were only two dog friendly tables and that someone was sitting at them so we couldn't be served. Asked if there was anywhere else locally serving food that was dog friendly but was told no. Felt very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Would not recommend if you have a dog with you as the tables might be occupied.

Absolutely shocking would not recommend firstly if you have a car any bigger than a citron c1 good luck, place reeks of stale drink, dark and is more of a working men's club than a restaurant.

Went with the family as we were visiting the area. Food was good, I got the george burger and my wife got the veg lasagne and both great. Kids enjoyed their food which were nuggets and fish fingers, both happy. Service was quick and friendly, only thing I would say is some areas need a lick of paint like the area towards the toilets & door, we sat in the back restaurant part but the bar area seems to have more of an atmosphere so would try to sit in that part next time.

Can say if I lived in the area I would never return. The staff were friendly and accommodating but the food really let this place down. The portion sizes were good but we had lasagna and it’s the worst one I’ve ever had, it was tasteless and swimming in cheese sauce. Wish I’d read the reviews before we went.

Nice pub area. The dining area did feel and look like a community centre hall. A few twinkling lights but very sparse. Staff friendly food wasn't marvellous but it was good. Service was fast so not waiting for a long time. To sum up "Good but a bit odd". Try it, you never know.

Had a meal today here and it was lovely! I had the "George burger" and it was delicious. For desert I got the "chocolate fudge brownie" which was also very good. Staff were very welcoming and efficient in taking and delivering orders. Bathrooms could do with a bit of a touch up but asides that a great place to go for a meal

We wanted somewhere dog friendly for a quick bite to eat. We weren't disappointed. Out dog was made very welcome and given a bowl of water whilst we ordered our drinks. The food arrived quickly and was hot, fresh and excellent quality. Would recommend.

This has to be the worst offering of a traditional Sunday lunch I’ve ever tasted! The meal was freezing cold in places and no more than warm in others. The roast beef resembled a piece of shoe leather that was impossible to cut let alone eat! When the waitress felt the cold Yorkshire pudding more arrived that had been microwaved and arrived at the table like a couple of couple soggy lumps. The service was dreadful took 15 mins before taking drinks order and only once requested. The manager was not apologetic once the complaint was made and refusal to pay. He was more interested that I worked for a company associated with trip advisor. Very very poor experience indeed! Ps I paid £6.70 for the drinks which were not offered as complimentary apology 🤣

Very clean, excellent staff and food.

We visited for a family meal for 6 adults, the food was all beautifully cooked varying from pie, to burgers, surf and turf and mixed grill , the speed of service was also very good, all staff were polite, professional and helpful .upon paying our bill a computer software glitch meant we were overcharged, we didn't realise this until the next day, we contacted the owner Mike who looked into this for us, apologised even though it was no one's fault and refunded the difference to us that same day. I just want to thank him and all the staff for their help and want to say, great food and drink at great prices in a lovely surrounding . Well worth a visit anytime you are near .

Where do I start! Ordered horseshoe gammon chips onion rings mushrooms egg and pineapple right!! The chips and onion rings were like soggy underpants after a little accident the mushrooms were full of oil!! The lady was helpful I’ve gave you a £5 discount…. So...

Just arrived back home from The Royal George. As a family weve not been out for food for well over 12months because of the covid. Well what a massive bad decision to go here food was disgusting. I can actually say its the worst meal...

Our first evening of a coast to coast bike ride and we enjoyed good value pub food here. The staff were all friendly, helpful and service was good. Tables spaced well apart, a one way entry system and lots of sanitizer about.

The food was very average. Service and drink were good but improvement in table waiting wouldn't go amiss.

2nd visit to this fantastic place. Lovely friendly staff and amazing food Their Steak & Ale pie is delicious. Also it is Dog Friendly
