Lovely little traditional pub with good food and beer. We lucked out at lunch time and snagged a table for 4. Chicken curry, Cumberland sausage and burgers were all delicious as was the duck rolls and Mac n cheese.

Ate in there 1 evening. The food was OK, from a very generic pub menu featuring all the standards (pies, fish & chips, grills). Bar staff were OK, but the waiting staff were basically miserable. And the worst aspect - the place was full of dogs, none under the control of their owners, who were typically late middle-aged couples , treating their mutts as child substitutes. At one point there were 4 adjacent tables , each with 2 dogs, competing to see which could bark the loudest. And what did the staff do about it, yep you guessed, naff all. Unless you love dogs, and don't mind boring food, avoid. Apparently it's been taken over by Marstons from Jennings, and is going downhill quickly.

Ordered gluten free fish and chips and then informed that there was no separate fryer, so why say it's gluten free when it isn't. I had been in a couple of days ago and was so looking forward to having gluten free fish and chips today. Feeling very disappointed 😞

This must be the most overpriced meal I've ever had. Ordered the hotpot at £17,95 expecting a hearty meal after a long day's walking. It was a tiny bowl of gravy with around 6 small pieces of lamb , with a few slices of potatoe. A tiny bowl of cabbage on the side. Then £14 for 2 pints of lager just to rub the salt in the wound. Absolutely rip off , don't waste your money. Heard other people around us expressing their disgust in food and portion sizes. You have been warned. Won't be returning.

We have been to Keswick over 30 years and never popped in here. My daughter suggested we try it and what a delight. It’s a traditional pub, staff were very friendly. been in this pub for the last 8 years always great food and beer on this occasion 26/11/24 the 3 pints of ale provided was cloudy and had a sour taste - the staff were more than unhelpful they would not exchange the beer r refund the beer when asked for their name refused to supply i asked for the managers details they refused to provide i asked for the complaints procedure they said its on line i went on line they refused to show me where it is - if i treat customers like the staff did on this visit the business would be closed within hours very poor and disappointing visit 4 of us will never go back

It was busy Saturdays lunch time. When we entered the pub, no waiter paid any attention to us. We wanted to know if there was a free table. One table was free. We ordered fish and chips. Once ordered at the bar not long to wait until cooked. The portions were too huge. One portion would be enough for two. The food was very delicious! The mushy peas was very tasty. But I'm not sure if would like to come again.

I don’t usually believe in 5* reviews, but no complaints means 5*, and I have none. 6 people ate, and we all loved our meals. My mother (the pickiest woman on the planet) loved her food and that speaks for itself. We all ordered from the specials; Slow Cooked Pork Belly, Chicken Pie, Cod Bites and Crispy Chilli Beef. They were all fantastic. Nice homely feel to the pub, music, good atmosphere and great staff. Class👍🏼

Probably the best pub in Keswick. It always seems to be busy. The staff are fantastic. We managed to grab a table as someone was leaving, then asked another table to grab an additional chair to fit the 5 of us. The staff noticed this and managed to fit us on a comfier table near the back (as we didn't have a dog with us) We all ordered our meals - sausage and mash, mac and cheese, lasagna and something else. Everything was fantastic. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. The side salads with the meals were actual salads and not just a few leaves. We will definitely be back next time were in the area.

We could not find a seat on the first night of our visit to Keswick. Our B&B host pointed out there was a reason why! As you cannot book we went for dinner early, and got a table. Been going to the bank tavern for years, Sadly we’ve noticed the quantity you get on your plate nowadays isn’t as much as it used to be, even though the prices have shot up over the last 3 years. Had the lamb in mint pie, asked for not the corner piece, what did we get.? Corner piece. More pastry than filling, when asked for extra gravy , was told I’m busy I’ll try in get back to you. We did get it though. To soak into the pastry. Sorry we won’t be back .

Located at one end of Keswick's main shopping drag, this place doesn't take bookings. If you see a table, just grab it, then order food and drinks at the bar and wait for food to arrive at your table. At 18:15 on a Saturday evening, we got a table in less than 5 minutes. Good selection of standard menu items and specials, all familiar pub standards. Vegetable lasagna and baked salmon both excellent. Total bill for food and 1 drink/person: 42 pounds. Dogs allowed in about half of the restaurant.

One of many pubs visited in our stay in Keswick. Visited it 3 times as we were running out of options and had a dog. Also the town centre was very busy. It's find your own table. No booking as constant stream of customers. Dogs only allowed on non-carpeted areas. Makes it awkward when people just sitting drinking on the other tables and you want to eat. Also the carpet was filthy so don't know why dogs weren't allowed everywhere. In my opinion you are either dog friendly or not. Had a burger. Was ok. Asked for well done but was not as well done as I liked. But ok. Had a salmon dish with crushed potato and veg. From the specials board and partner said it was the best meal they'd had during our two week stay Had steak and ale pie. Again full of steak pieces and reasonably tasty. Can't complain. Had a fillet steak. Asked for it to be well done. Well it came out so dry and burnt on the edges it was disgusting. A good chef can cook a steak well done without burning or drying it out. Served in a skillet floating in something. Not quite sure. Terrible for the price. Sea bass was in the specials board and partner had it and said it was beautiful. Looked really nice too. Good portion of sea bass too. Everything had to be ordered at bar including drinks and meals Service ok. No real smiles or interaction. Heard someone mention the leek and potato soup was too spicy for them and the lady with the blonde hair by the bar couldn't care less and treated the woman with complete disdain. Very unprofessional. In the warm weather week and other visits plagued by flies. Not v appealing and a real nuisance as doors were left open. Would I go back. No. But sort of one of the best of a bad bunch in Keswick town centre really.

We visited for dinner and although a table was not immediately available, the waitress moved a couple of tables to accommodate six of us with our dog too. She joked with our teen lads and made us feel very welcome. Great pub . Plans changed thanks to the rain so we we asked a local shop assistant for recommendations. This was the first place and it does present well from the exterior . And there was literally a stream of people heading in . It's quite small ,with low ceilings and very traditional. Food is fabulous, good portions, average price and there's a wide range on the menu and special boards on the wall menus . Atmosphere is good ,it was busy but we still had space enough. Only one point negative was the lady taking food and drink orders at the bar was miserable, no conversation,no smile or any kind of interaction other than to take the order and direct the card machine my way. Unfortunately not even a thank you. Serving staff were great and it was busy but there's no excuse for rude sullen staff . Having said that, I would definitely recommend this place . All staff were excellent EXCEPT for the older guy who maybe the boss. Terrible service, half way through our meal we got rudely interrupted and embarrassed us infront of all of the other guests as we were accused of being under 16 which first of all we are not and second of all this was when we had almost finished our meal. Atleast ask us before we order or enter the pub.And to top it all off make a huge point of how she couldn’t split the bill and ended up doing it anyway. Its appalling the treatment we have received today as people stereotype us as youths. Will NOT be returning and I suggest you think twice about coming to this establishment.
