Not very pleasant staff and found it bizarre that I was refused a jacket potato with prawn Marie rose???? I asked if the prawn cocktail starter could be put on my jacket. NO, chef won't do prawns with a potatoe!!!???? So I had tuna on my jacket and it was quite nice, although not piping hot.

We could not find a seat on the first night of our visit to Keswick. Our B&B host pointed out there was a reason why! As you cannot book we went for dinner early, and got a table. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent. Good main menu supplimented by a specials board. But do not expect posh decor, this a quite small old fashioned pub with beamed ceiling. We loved it.

Been going to the bank tavern for years, Sadly we’ve noticed the quantity you get on your plate nowadays isn’t as much as it used to be, even though the prices have shot up over the last 3 years. Had the lamb in mint pie, asked for not the corner piece, what did we get.? Corner piece. More pastry than filling, when asked for extra gravy , was told I’m busy I’ll try in get back to you. We did get it though. To soak into the pastry. Sorry we won’t be back .

Up in Keswick for the day, we arrived hungry. From the outside we were not 100% sure that this pub even did food much (there was a menu outside and a faded board. However inside it was clear most folk were eating and the food looked good! Good selection of well kept ales and the food was huge in portions and great on quality. We will definitely go back next time in Keswick and you can’t praise a place higher than that! Loved it.

Located at one end of Keswick's main shopping drag, this place doesn't take bookings. If you see a table, just grab it, then order food and drinks at the bar and wait for food to arrive at your table. At 18:15 on a Saturday evening, we got a table in less than 5 minutes. Good selection of standard menu items and specials, all familiar pub standards. Vegetable lasagna and baked salmon both excellent. Total bill for food and 1 drink/person: 42 pounds. Dogs allowed in about half of the restaurant.

One of many pubs visited in our stay in Keswick. Visited it 3 times as we were running out of options and had a dog. Also the town centre was very busy. It's find your own table. No booking as constant stream of customers. Dogs only allowed on non-carpeted areas. Makes it awkward when people just sitting drinking on the other tables and you want to eat. Also the carpet was filthy so don't know why dogs weren't allowed everywhere. In my opinion you are either dog friendly or not. Had a burger. Was ok. Asked for well done but was not as well done as I liked. But ok. Had a salmon dish with crushed potato and veg. From the specials board and partner said it was the best meal they'd had during our two week stay Had steak and ale pie. Again full of steak pieces and reasonably tasty. Can't complain. Had a fillet steak. Asked for it to be well done. Well it came out so dry and burnt on the edges it was disgusting. A good chef can cook a steak well done without burning or drying it out. Served in a skillet floating in something. Not quite sure. Terrible for the price. Sea bass was in the specials board and partner had it and said it was beautiful. Looked really nice too. Good portion of sea bass too. Everything had to be ordered at bar including drinks and meals Service ok. No real smiles or interaction. Heard someone mention the leek and potato soup was too spicy for them and the lady with the blonde hair by the bar couldn't care less and treated the woman with complete disdain. Very unprofessional. In the warm weather week and other visits plagued by flies. Not v appealing and a real nuisance as doors were left open. Would I go back. No. But sort of one of the best of a bad bunch in Keswick town centre really.

A really lovely traditional tavern with a very warm welcome. We visited for dinner and although a table was not immediately available, the waitress moved a couple of tables to accommodate six of us with our dog too. She joked with our teen lads and made us feel very welcome. There was a great selection of food on the menu and each of our dishes were good quality, very tasty and homemade, the steak pie was delicious and it came with fresh veg too! So many places falsely claim their food is ‘homemade’ but this really was.

Great pub . Plans changed thanks to the rain so we we asked a local shop assistant for recommendations. This was the first place and it does present well from the exterior . And there was literally a stream of people heading in . It's quite small ,with low ceilings and very traditional. Food is fabulous, good portions, average price and there's a wide range on the menu and special boards on the wall menus . Atmosphere is good ,it was busy but we still had space enough. Only one point negative was the lady taking food and drink orders at the bar was miserable, no conversation,no smile or any kind of interaction other than to take the order and direct the card machine my way. Unfortunately not even a thank you. Serving staff were great and it was busy but there's no excuse for rude sullen staff . Having said that, I would definitely recommend this place . There's alot of choice in Keswick so they're doing it right and we will definitely return

Been here two days running on a three night break. First day I had gammon and my partner had chicken supreme and we both really enjoyed. Second day I did have my heart set on having the lamb shoulder, unfortunately it's so good and popular they had sold out! We decided on the ribeye, which was absolutely delicious. All staff were excellent EXCEPT for the older guy who maybe the boss. He seemed more concerned about people coming in to use toilets and not buying anything, but even though he'd had 150 quid at least out of us, his customer skills were atrocious, needs to go on numerous courses! What an ignorant man.

Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat during the day. We had baguettes, the bread was beyond gorgeous - toasted and so soft in the middle. Would love to see more options for baguette - I had the Cumberland sausage, gravy and onion ring baguette but since it was a beautifully warm day if I had the option I'd have picked something lighter like chicken salad if it was available. Staff were friendly and attentive, the barmaid overheard my partner mention what he wanted to drink whilst she was serving another customer then segwayed into chatting with us. Despite calling a few days ahead to book in our large party which I explained included dogs and young children, we were given an extremely rude reception - before being reluctantly led by the landlady to a table laid up for a different booking and told we had to fold down our buggies and leave within 2 hours. (There were other buggies in the bar area so this seemed particularly odd). We all felt really uncomfortable so decided to leave rather than let the atmosphere spoil our meal. Extremely disappointing as we had planned our trip to Keswick around a meal here. But delighted m to say all was not lost though and we found somewhere with a much more friendly and accommodating attitude.

Stopped for coffee break this morning. Not too many places open at this time of year especially early morning (9.30).location and atmosphere is nice and staff were pleasant. Unfortunately scones were not fresh -baked yesterday I would think. Coffee wasn’t that hot either cold long before I’d finished my scone. Lots of jam served but butter very hard and difficult to spread. No cream. Price was fine if food had been better
