The Fleece at Cirencester in Cotswold

Our regular pub/bar/restaurant in Cirencester. We live locally and love a visit to The Fleece. Great service- table only. Food is of high quality and consistent. We love coming here and seeing the waiting staff who make it so enjoyable. A particular mention for my favourites; Fran, George, Tonia, Andre, Zee.

We chose The Fleece as there were good reviews on here. We arrived at about 3.30 for a late lunch/ early dinner. We were greeted warmly, seated and drinks delivered swiftly. Delicious Sorento Sparkle and a decent pint. Our food order was taken and then…. Everyone disappeared! We wanted to order some more drinks but couldn’t find anyone. When someone did appear at the bar we ordered a bottle of wine which then didn’t show up until half way through our meal. The crab tart was very dry, I think it has been defrosted in the oven. It wasn’t very warm at all. The crab bisque tasted very much of a chicken stock cube, and was lukewarm warm at best. The pork belly was bland and uninspiring. The atmosphere was upbeat and the place was nearly full. But no one being around and mediocre food spoiled our visit.

Honeymooned here some 38 years back. Have returned several times over the years and were not disappointed. Dinner was reasonably priced with a good selection. Recommend making a reservation as it was almost full (on a Wednesday).

Excellent dinner here! We dropped in for a quick drink and decided to try it for dinner. I really enjoyed my crab tart with a lovely salad, and house made focaccia bread. Our servers were very friendly and warm, so much that we felt like we’d made friends! We ate in a very nice section of the restaurant that was quiet and full of great atmosphere, I would recommend eating here as well as a great place for a pint or glass of wine!

Always love this place when we visit Cirencester. Cirencester in itself is a feast for the eyes, the shops, their displays set you up for a delightful day and then you step into The Fleece. Never disappointed. We walked in on a busy Saturday lunch time without a booking. Every member of staff approached us and asked if they could help, but the first person we spoke to was dealing with finding us a table. Excellent attention from the staff all the way through our visit, not over the top but attentive’ very much appreciated. Our children are very fussy eaters and our waitress was superb with them. It’s not the cheapest but then it shouldn’t be it offers more than that so it’s worth every penny and more. Excellent staff, good food, a beautiful building what more could you ask.

This restaurant deserves a Michelin star, compliments to the chef and the team. The food was amazing, the pork belly very tender and melted in the mouth. Stuffed fennel and seabass was so fresh and delicious. Also a dog friendly restaurant.

This hotel has a very nice interior. I was impressed by the taste that I like. The thick wooden beams are reminiscent of the Cotswolds, and there is cute wallpaper. The whole thing was well put together. Both the room and the shower room are very clean. The atmosphere of the attached restaurant was also great. The staff are friendly and the hotel is very cozy. The backyard is a parking lot. The surrounding old buildings are kept very clean and the townscape is also one of its charms. I could hear the footsteps of people on the upper floors, but I guess that can't be helped in a building with such a long history. This is a hotel I would like to visit again.

We are just back from our bank holiday weekend stay with The Fleece and had to write a review to say how brilliant this place is and how great the stay was. They are dog friendly which our Italian greyhound, Moose, really appreciated as he got to be included in our evening meals and breakfasts in the bar. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and made us feel super welcome at all times - and they spoiled Moose very much! So much so he has requested that we return. The location is perfect, too. Everything within walking distance including Cirencester Park or the high street. And it’s the perfect base for travelling further afield too. We highly recommend The Fleece - thank you all for a perfect stay! Moose says thanks too!

Overnight stay. Stayed one night, the room was very expensive. The room itself is a decent size with a comfortable bed, but in serious need of repair. The walls are damaged and not repaired, the bathroom is also in a poor state of repair. This is nothing to do with the age of the property. When paying £200 for a room I would expect the room to be clean and tidy,

Very lovely lunch, enjoyed the sunshine in the lovely outdoor garden out the back. We ordered a burger and the ham egg and chips, they were both sensational!!! The staff were so friendly and smiley and made us feel really welcomed from the second we entered :) Will 100000% be returning!

I stayed with my humans when they took me in the mobile kennel on holiday. The staff were Uber friendly and got me drinks without asking. Told them about a lovely walk nearby. Other humans seemed to like me being around but wouldn’t share food. The room was quite hot so for any other four legged friends sleep in bathroom, much cooler. The humans said their food was excellent but I can only speak for the sausages and they were good too. Three paws out of four

Excellent food especially the breakfast

Just spent 4 nights at The Fleece, and would definately return.Cons - automatic landing lighting could be quicker and stairs are a bit precarious, not a problem for us but may be for older guests.Base of wardrobe was thick with dust. Pros _ great location for enjoying what Cirencester and the Cotswolds has to offer. Great atmosphere as very popular with locals. Very good outside seating area. Excellent breakfast and dinner menues and produce. The biggest plus for us was the people that work there. Receptionists, cleaners, bar staff and breakfast team. They were all very attentive, helpfull and engaging, can not speak too highly off them. As stated on the breakfast menu all tips are shared equally amongst the staff so if you do stay there and have been impressed it's worth thinking about leaving a token of your appreciation.

Can’t be more central. Staff were all friendly from checkin to the bar to breakfast… and speaking of breakfast… one of the best I’ve ever had in England!!

Been coming to the fleece for a few years but was very disappointed with the meal Waited along time for our food and it wasn’t worth the wait. The fish and chips were very try and felt that they had been left under a heat lamp. Beef burgers wasn’t any better and the Lady that served the food was very miserable And abrupt and rude Will not return.

Just spent a couple of nights staying at this lovely pub right in the heart of Cirencester. The rooms are petite, but nicely finished. Breakfast was lovely with a nice choice, we also ate here for one lunch and dinner, and enjoyed thoroughly. The staff are the crowning jewel though, can't do enough for you, and very attentive.

Was in town for an impromptu visit and didn’t have any firm plans for lunch. We liked the look of the place so ventured in and wasn’t disappointed. The decor and atmosphere was very pleasant and the place was extremely clean. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The menu had a very good choices of dishes and this is a must visit for any foodie like us !

I loved everything about this hotel!! It could not be any more adorable! Our room was amazing!! The breakfast that was included was amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful! I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this town.

Dined in the function room for a family gathering. It comfortably seated 22 of us. The food was stunning and even tho the portions looked small they were filling. The staff were very accommodating and attentive.

Amazing service and great food. Matt went above and beyond to make us comfortable when we visited with our toddler. He could not do enough which meant we felt at ease and could enjoy our meal. The rooms are clean and spacious, very good value. All of the staff were very welcoming and professional.

Room 3 too dark to read or apply makeup.

We went for a meal at their busiest time. They were open with us about struggling with staff numbers (as the demand was way higher than normal). However, they excelled at customer focus and the food was genuinely outstanding. The person who overlooked everything (chap with a beard) was phenomenal despite some disgusting patrons on the next table. He made our son's night by congratulating him on his behavior.

Good beers, great service, reasonably good food.

Wonderful hotel with a lot of history, right in the heart of Cirencester. Just watch your head as you’re going up the stairs!

Popped in for late lunch,initially grateful for a table until...you get a table next to the bar that you can literally put your head down on. The other party is constantly bumped into by either fellow diners on their way to the loo or staff going to the kitchen.Greed needs some limits,i think. Food was awful,greasy and oversalted mackerel, frozen fries..I've eaten the fish as I was very hungry, had I not been starving, I would have left. The staff member who dealt with us at the beginning miraculously disappeared when -upon him insisting- I told him about the food being terrible. Do not eat there!

Beautiful building, excellent location. Parking in nearest car park for three days did rattle up a bit of a bill. Consistently very helpful and friendly staff.

The worst i have ever had my wife daughter and grand daughter ordered the roast beef and when it came out i thought here we go it looked lovely and that's what they said and i ordered the pork loin apparently the chefs special and as this place was highly recommended i ordered then when it comes out it was like a child's meal a lump of raw fat on a plate with a small portion of mash and raw cabbage with a sprinkle of gravy never again i have tasted much better else where

Very central hotel with 24 hour parking just a few minutes walk away. Dinner and breakfast was great and good selection of wine. Rooms had good selection of tea and coffee with a coffee maker and small fridge.

Would recommend Cirencester to everyone. Friendly and beautiful town. The stay in The Fleece was exellent. With all my travelling, often solo, I think I have never felt so safe and happy about my choice. The Fleece is exceptional, good room, clean, the restaurant is wonderful and the food good. The breakfast is absolutely exceptional. I will be visiting Cirencester and the Fleece again.

Lovely spacious room. Perfect location. Breakfast was delicious. Be mindful that you are above a pub and we heard a couple of late night bottle bins emptying but nothing that spoilt our stay.

Dreadful place. States it's a five star hotel!!!! With no parking, no room service, no amenities.. for eg a gym/ fitness room. Walls in room were dirty, as were the tiny windows, the shower tiles, the furniture wood was battered and chipped. The pillows did not have a pillow protector, The bin in the bathroom was broken - no lid! Do not stay there!! Horrible, dirty place.

Lovely Building, nice beer and freindly staff, I had the ploughmans and although it was nice I felt it was very over priced for what you got, within a 2 mins walk there is a better value and better quality ploughmans to be had!

Early evening meal. Service top notch from the start. Food excellent in bubbly atmosphere. Certainly recommend to visitors and locals alike.

Don't be fleeced - this is not a 5 star hotel any more - it might have been when the AA first reviewed it but it's worn out and badly maintained. We stayed for 2 nights (fri, sat) Big room and big bathroom. Decent bed but there were no pillow protectors - which is v. Poor for any hotel never mind one that pretends to be quality. Carpets are tired and dirty. All the walls and paintwork are chipped and very dirty including the tired shower tiles which needed a good scrub ! Bathroom walls had not survived the damp so were bubbling and the paint had split on the walls. Even the trim around the shower base had come off. Maybe that's why they have such terrible lighting in the rooms - so you can't see how tired it all is ! Lights so poor I ended up putting the phone light on for my wife so she could do her makeup ! They hadn't even replaced the broken bin in the bathroom which had no lid and a plastic bag chucked in it. Building work going on outside so scaffolding and filthy windows were the order of the day. Let's not also forget that this is an old building so.you can here everyone's business - above and next to you - just to add to the ambience! It all led to an overpriced, dirty, noisy stay which may fleece someone who doesn't stay in good hotels very often but I do and this was the most overpriced and underwhelming hotel I've been in for many years - get a good discount or avoid ! Btw - in case you think I'm being harsh - we met up with someone else who was staying there and they thought the same !

We heard a lot of good things about The Fleece so we popped in for a beer on a busy weekend night. No greeting or smile from the barman, he made us feel very unwelcome the minute we approached the bar. Then a waitress approached us and asked where we are sitting. She had just watched us walk in so I said "we haven't found a seat yet, we've just walked through the door" and her reply was "there is no standing in The Fleece, you must have a seat or i will not serve you" Just cold and really unfriendly. I understand what they are doing with the all seating thing and haven't got a problem with it but the staff we encountered were flat out rude and it was a really uncomfortable experience. We went over to The Bear instead and were welcomed with friendly smiles and human decency

Excellent service and food. Hake was beautifully cooked and Chicken supreme was extremely tasty. However the Nduja sausage made it too spicy for me, so I chose the hake. I was very happy with my choice. Green beans and chips were also delicious. We were too full for dessert. The atmosphere was very jolly.

A really lovely experience. Such friendly and helpful staff and a super twin bedded room. We had a well behaved dog with us and were not given a tired and slightly smelly dog room as we have been given in the past. Food delicious. Would recommend!

The staff were so very charming and attentive. My friend and I had a super tastie Sunday lunch 😋 the plates were piled full, I had to take half home with me. I did manage to share a rum & rasin bread 'n' butter pudding delicious. Thank you to all staff, chefs etc for a wonderful visit. Until next time! Thank you....

Had a burger and fries bad meat because it was very dry ,they put a tiny bit of cheese.Good bun,fries were not crispy and were soggy added stuff that weren't mentioned on the menu and overpriced not fast good location and great staff didn't ask for allergies.

This is a superb place to go for food in Cirencester. I had the smoked Haddock Omlette, my partner had the ploughman's. Very good food nicely presented, service good and fair pricing. Will definitely be going back again

We went for dinner on good Friday. It was a lovely pub, great atmosphere and lovely staff. Shame the food isn't up to a good standard. Our mussels were too salty and our sausage and mash gravy was too sweet.

Good food, excellent beer and outstanding service

We popped in for a spot of lunch midweek without booking and managed to secure a table near the door. Staff were friendly and the food was about average. I had the fish goujons and my partner had ham, egg and chips. Despite there not being very much fish in the goujons, the ham being more like thick gammon and the eggs not being fully cooked on top, the meal was quite adequate. Oh, and when the gentleman waiter gave us our food, he asked if we wanted anything else. We both asked for ketchup but he didn’t return with any. I assume he must have forgotten.

We stayed here for two nights in what a wonderful hotel. The staff are so helpful, warm, and friendly. The food is amazing, especially the triple-cooked chips. Clean, tidy, and a great location as only 2 min walk to the main shops. Just fantastic. Don't always get a parking spot as it’s a small car park, but there is a large car park very close by and safe. I would highly recommend a stay here. Special thanks to the Aussie Receptionist she was just so very helpful and lovely!! We will 100% go back. Wonderful thank you to all the staff!!

Very much of a let down. The food is bought from bake brothers as the ‘Pie of the day ‘ is not made on site according to the waiter. When I checked the ingredients he said they are bought in, and he needs to check the box for the ingredients!!!! It should have been advertised as an onion and carrot pie rather than beef and ale. To add the Gnocchi was awful. The Sauce was thick, and the gnocchi was over cooked. Even the muscles had some plastic left in the bowl. My recommendation would be to avoid this place at all costs. There are so many better restaurants in the town, and please don’t waste your money. ( I live locally and not a tourists and won’t be back) The service was good, but all about the upsell of the pre made puddings. Nicely fitted out and ok for beer, but do not waste your money buying factory food falsely advertised as ‘pie of the day’. Go elsewhere:

This pub/hotel/restaurant in the centre of Cirencester was extremely busy on the Friday lunchtime we chose to pop in. It had been recommended by a friend but we hadn't realised that we needed to book. A female waiter, who greeted us, managed to find us a table but unfortunately it was quite close to the door so every time someone came in or out we felt a sharp chill. As a result I kept my coat on throughout our lunch which made it slightly uncomfortable. The menu itself offered plenty of choice. We opted just for a main course. It was plentiful, tasty and well presented so no complaints

Only had lunch on this occasion, but it was great, staff were brilliant, presentation was wonderful and the chef was very accommodating with our dietary requests. One can see why it's a busy restaurant, in the heart of Cirencester, prices reflect its great quality and attention to detail of a wonderful place to relax and enjoy.

My wife and sister visited here for lunch. It was our first ever visit. And what a find it was. The level of service was outstanding, so friendly and polite. The quality, presentation and taste of the food we ate was superb. We have been to other establishments when visiting Cirencester but, The Fleece is by far the best we've experienced. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Gorgeous time at The Fleece today. We are having a few days holiday staying near Cirencester and stopped here for a light lunch. Delicious food and excellent service! And extremely reasonable. Lovely find!

We stumbled upon The Fleece when walking past on Saturday afternoon. It looked lovely and so we decided to pop in. Luckily for us there was a table right by the window and we enjoyed a delicious 2-course dinner. The service, atmosphere and food was delightful! We had such a pleasant evening. Will definitely return and recommend to anyone!

I cannot fault this venue for an evening meal. We were there for a 50th birthday celebration, a party of 10 people. The staff were amazing and our waiter was absolutely fantastic, nothing was enough trouble! He even managed (due to a communication error between friends regarding candles), managed to fit 50 candles onto a cake, and get the cake to the table without any of them blowing out AND without setting the venue on fire! The food was absolutely delicious and served very hot, on hot plates and there were totally clean plates at the end! I really cannot recommend this venue enough, both for staff and food!

Stopped for some food and a drink ,Unfortunately had to rush them both as didn't put enough money on parking ticket !!! Still very nice if a little cut short

Fantastic service and good selection

I had my 21st celebration here and could not fault anything! We were so impressed with the food, drinks and especially the staff! I can’t thank you all enough for making my day so special! We would recommend the Sunday roast😋

The bar/restaurant was really nice and we enjoyed both our evening meal and breakfast. The room however was a let down, it was extremely small, not that clean and nothing like what we expected from the images. It stated we would have chocolates which weren't in the room and for a birthday gift it felt rather disappointing.

Lovely pub in the heart of Cirencester. Staff are amazing , food tasty and rooms cosy. Shame they ran out of some dishes in the menu , but on the whole a delightful break.

We met friends here for lunch in the bar and it was brilliant. A good, buzzing atmosphere but despite being busy it was some of the best service I've had for a long time. The staff were attentive and on it, doing things like refilling water carafes without being asked, but not being intrusive (no one asked us three times if our meal was alright, which it most certainly was). They even brought a bowl of water for the dog unprompted. I don't know your name, brilliant waiter with the beard, but thank you for looking after us so well!

Best food we’ve had in a very long time! Since Covid I have been disappointed by many restaurants however The Fleece surpassed all of my expectations today! The bavette steak was fantastic, we also had tempura prawns and crispy duck pancakes. All of which tasted great and was presented beautifully. Even the tomato pasta from the kids menu was very nice. The staff were exceptionally friendly and couldn’t do enough for us to make sure we had a good time and everything we wanted. Thanks again! We will be back every time we are in Cirencester!

Stayed two nights in the Fleece Hotel Cirencester. The the staff were very helpful and attentive. As constructive criticism I would say our room could do with a bit of fresh paint on the walls and skirting boards. Did not effect our stay but have stayed In other 5 star rated hotels and attention to detail in the rooms was of a higher standard than the Fleece.

Lovely restaurant, great service and great food. This was our 2nd visit and would definitely return again. Highly recommend the seafood pasta. The restaurant is right on the market square so a great location.

This hotel is in the middle of town and from our room we could see the church and town square. The staff instantly put us at ease and check in was very simple and straight forward.

Wednesday night outing with a couple of the lads and some food. I wasn’t too hungry so had chorizo and sourdough. It was good. The chorizo could’ve had 1 minute less on the heat. But was tasty and filled the spot non the less. Will be returning.

Stayed here for my birthday night and had a meal here. The town is beautiful, the room is really cute and the meal was amazing! Had a steak which was top notch. Also the staff were so lovely they could not do enough really refreshing! Really enjoyed ourselves and we will be back! Finally If you have a dog this is the place to bring them!!

This was our visit to this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. We were found to our room the Wright deluxe super king bedroom which was stunningly beautiful. The facilities in room were excellent. We had our evening meal in the hotel in there Teatro bar and restaurant; the food was delicious and the service was outstanding; our waitresses Michaela and Stacey very attentive and friendly. We loved it so much and have booked to stay in the summer.

We went to the Fleece Hotel in Cirencester for a meal on Boxing Day with family. It’s a great location and atmosphere. The staff were great and the food was excellent and good value.

We had the most excellent lunch at The Fleece recently. The ambience was superb, the service attentive and friendly. The food was wonderful - utterly delicious. I must say that the sticky toffee pudding was one of the very best I have ever eaten. The beer was very well kept. Dog friendly. Definitely highly recommend.

Had a super lunch when we visited with family. Two had fish and chips and two had the fish goujon sandwich. The prtions were very large so sadly no room for dessert but we will be back.

We visited on a Monday afternoon, with a mixture of dietary needs. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and checked on several occasions that they were providing enough information regarding food intolerances and the like. The service was really good and the food, both starters and mains, were to a really high standard with good portion sizes. The bar has a really nice atmosphere and feels welcoming. Would recommend without hesitation.

A welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff and efficient service throughout our meal. The roast dishes were well cooked, served with traditional vegetables and a superb Yorkshire pudding. While the beef was faultless, the report on a vegetarian nut roast was felt to have fallen a tad short compared to a similar lunch last year. There was also a shade of disappointment that extra vegetables served in the past were missing this year. The mini pudding/coffee option was well received, though the presentation of the chocolate brioche bread and butter pudding eclipsed the composition and flavour. Is this a casualty of the cost of living crisis affecting the hospitality sector, we wondered?

I’d give this place 10 stars if it was possible, absolutely fantastic, best bar staff by far, friendly, informative and they remember you, which goes a long way, food was fantastic. Returned twice during our long weekend in Cirencester. Could not fault the place and if we return I’d think we’d definitely try and stay at fleece. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend

I had to try the bangers and mash since we were in England. The sausages were very good quality, nothing funky. My wife had the sampler for 2 . Everything was cold, she was disappointed with her meal and could not finish it.

Good atmosphere and service. Dog friendly. Both had burgers, chicken/beef - with lovely sauces - delicious. Wine selection good.

What a great spot for a typical English pub meal. All the usual offerings done outstandingly. Nicest pie I've ever had (and I'm a great pie fan), went again a second night it was so good and ordered the fish and chips, another classic. Wonderful crisp batter but not oily & crisp, fluffy chips. Clearly they have a great kitchen. Pie had this amazing side of greens which seemed to be a combo of kale, cavalo nero and beans or snap peas done in a light butter, just delicious! Good staff, efficient and professional but also casual and chatty. Great atmosphere too, without the (oft off-putting) ubiquitous TV showing footy or loud music.

Celebration - 60th wedding anniversary. Four days of enjoyment helped by kind and considerate staff (even presenting us with a bottle of champagne!) and quite exceptional food at all sittings. Certainly worth another visit.

Visiting Cirencester and decided to give this place a go. So glad we did, absolutely delicious freshly prepared food, excellent service, lovely and spaces inside, great kids menu. Would highly recommend.
