Booked last minute for a table of 12 including a wheelchair and highchair (we weren't the easiest group to accommodate). Very impressed by how well they were prepared for us and the warm welcome we received. Service was relaxed but efficient. Staff were discreet but very helpful. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and all the food was of a very high standard. The meat pies were lean and tender. Fish was white and succulent. We didn't have desserts as we were all quite replete. Definitely intend to return and try some of the other delicious looking meals.

Visited for a third time this last weekend and had another super meal. Family of 5 and all enjoyed what we chose. I had the vegetarian sausage roast dinner which was lovely. The others had fish pie, lamb pie, burger and Barnsley chops. Portions were as big as ever, hot buttered veg and a big platter of chips. Puddings were excellent too! Thanks for another lovely meal!

We visited the pub on a busy Sunday evening and were seated in the restaurant which felt a little neglected and lacked the character that the rest of the pub has. The food was average at best. The roast meat ( I had beef and my husband had pork) was very dry and served with what tasted like gravy made with granuals. The veg was cooked nicely and not too soft, but this didn't make up for the rest of the meal.

My first visit to The Fleece! It was busy but we got lucky and managed to get a table. The staff were all working hard to serve the busy indoors and outdoors area. We had the filled baguettes. My beef baguette contained so much meat! This is a proper pub doing proper pub grub!

Visited here at lunchtime, pre booked that morning via the website. Service fantastic and ran like clockwork to say it was so busy. All smiling and super friendly. As though proud to work there. Food was superb, absolutely faultless. Between us we had belly pork, liver, burger, pie and Cumberland sausage. Exceptional. We then had a few puddings, special mention to the gooseberry crumble tart which was gone in seconds. It’s a fair drive for us but we will absolutely be back.

This is a homely welcoming village pub offering good food offerings. We had a selection of starters from excellent pate and prawn cocktail to a special of broccoli and cauliflower soup. For main we can recommend the sea bass and especially the pies which were superb and accompanied by good chips. I can also recommend the liver and bacon which was well cooked. Good well kept real ales available too. Well worth a visit if walking at the nearby reservoirs.

we'd driven past the Fleece during a few days in the area, and decided to visit for dinner. It's a lovely proper old fashioned village pub, and the ladies serving were friendly and jolly, always smiling. The place was very clean and tidy, the loos also very clean and well supplied which is a good thing! We had huge portions of very nice food, my husband had the moules mariniere as a starter and said it was big enough for a main course and the broth/sauce was lovely. I had garlic mushrooms on toasted brioche which was super, the sauce was so nice I pinched some of husband's bread to mop it all up ( could have done with 2 slices of brioche maybe?) . Then he had the steak and ale pie with chips, and I had a glorious pasta dish with goats cheese and a cream walnut sauce - with garlic bread. I was so full I could not quite finish it, but I wished I could have done! Definitely a place to recommend!

After a very long walk around the Digley Reservoir area we aimed for the Fleece for refreshments. Holme is a lovely small village with The Fleece at the heart of it all. It's a welcome oasis for walkers and we were no exception. The fire was roaring away and we were met by a warm welcome too. As well as a drink, we decided to stay for a meal too as the menu looked very nice - not cheap, but we couldn't resist. We chose the Flagship Steak & Ale Pie and the Sunday Roast. Both arrived promptly and were absolutely delicious. Portion size was large with plenty of vegetables to share betwen the two of us. The atmosphere was very friendly and there were cutomers that were obviously regulars in enjoying a good chat which added to that 'cozy' vibe. We even got a talented sheepdog performance - you won't get that in a Wetherspoons! I would recommend you make the effort and visit The Fleece for either just a drink or a meal - you won't regret it. We will definitely be back!

Just visited the fleece for a roast dinner, we had the pork, lots of meat everything was really well cooked, the place was really busy but we didn’t have a long wait, the staff were run off their feet but remained polite and cheerful. I had a caramel torte for afters, it was delicious .Thank you Jonny and all staff, a very happy New Year to you all

Each time we have been the food has been fantastic and the service has been excellent. Our friends now also visit The Fleece for the same reason.

We visited on the 28th December. I last visited the Fleece a few years back and I have to admit I thought it wouldnt last the national pub 'demise'. How wrong I was on this most recent Family Christmas visit. Fantastis 'rustic' atmosphere with food and service to accompany! We will be definitely returning sooner rather than later. Recommended highly for family get togethers !

Called for lunch as we’d like to bring family for a nice country pub with great food ...we’ve visited a few with disappointing results ,so we found ourselves at the fleece ....we had a nice welcome friendly staff and it was very cozy with a real fire ... I had pie and it was the best pie I’ve tasted in a long time delicious...the portions generous plates hot which is one of my pet hates when I get a cold plate ,food hot and veg and roast potatoes very good ..I would have loved to try a pudding put I was really full...we booked straight away for Sunday dinner with family and looking forward to it and maybe try a pudding.

We enjoyed a very tasty Sunday lunch with lots of fresh veg followed by an excellent syrup sponge. The pub was recommended by friends and we're glad we went.

First-time visit here. Very quiet when we arrived and it took quite a while to have our order taken. We were unsure whether we ordered our drinks at the bar or if the waitress took the order. Either way, our food order was taken first. The food came out fairly quickly and everyone loved their food. My food was lukewarm although tasty, had to wait for my side, which only came after the meal was finished (a table check by the waitress would have rectified this) and I sent it away. No real apology just a few sorries with a smile on her face and was still charged for food I didn't receive and I left hungry. Everyone in the group said they would return but I have to say that I won't return due to lack of customer service.

Would have preferred to have eaten after a walk but due to the pub restaurant closing at 2pm we had to do it the other way round which wasn't ideal as the portions are generous so moving off afterwards is not easy but this is a review of the meal and it was excellent, well cooked, big portions while the menu is extensive if you add the daily specials including a Pie of the Day with 3 choices. The service was excellent with the waitress checking regularly to ask if everything was to our satisfaction which it was as my friend and I both opted for the pie which was excellent and plentiful with a choice of chips, potatoes, mash with a succulent tray of vegetables. The pub itself is in a superb location in the middle of many great rambles around the picturesque countryside while it personifies the typical country inn which can only be found in the UK. A nice touch was the selling of Greeting Cards along with books and CD's with the proceeds going to the local school. Perhaps we don't patronise our country pubs as much as we should which leads to many of them closing but if they maintain the standard and quality that my friend and I sampled then this place will hopefully thrive for many years to come.

Called for lunch after a walk around nearby Digley Reservoir. Sitting on the terrace at the front of the pub in blazing sunshine surrounded by magnificent landscape was a real treat.
