I actually live above this cafe . The owner is very funny man very polite . Prices are good as all the food they do is worth every penny . We had from there tonight. Signature burger. Cheesy chips. Bacon tomato cheese panini . 3 meals for under £20 . For parking you can park in hambro car park just past the cafe . 40 second walk from the car park to the cafe

Small cafe but well cooked and presented food. Owner/chef polite, friendly and helpful. Locals tell me he does great burgers. No parking at front but there us a public carpark less thanna minute away.

Ordered burger, chips and onion rings .. were delivered .. received hot, and that tastiest meal I’ve had in a long time .. everything tasted the best .. sometimes you get chips that aren’t nice but these were good !

As there was no parking nearby we had to find park the car a little far and walk all the way, we tried the Veg burger which was just okay, I tried the New York hot dog which was quite good (I would recommend that) and the Chicken roll also was okay, all the dishes came with fries, pretty good deal with a view of the busy street. Google maps takes you through a narrow way but as the parking is a problem it's better to find a parking space nearby and then walk all the way.

The man serving was lovely, food was fresh and clean, not greasy like a breakfast sometimes is so we thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a friendly little cafe. The food is fresh and cooked to order, it was very tasty and filling. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Discovering this place for the very reasonably priced lunch/dinners we stayed for dessert and returned for breakfast and was delighted with that too. I’d definitely go back next time I’m visiting the area.

The hot dog was quite good, but there was a serious problem with the chicken burger chicken. The chicken was so tough that I couldn't eat it all. And the pancakes were tough. The store owner should know that there is a problem with the chicken.

Visited a couple of days ago at lunchtime and left hungry and hugely disappointed!! My latest experience here left me dumbfounded and I will not be going back! My first experience of the food here a few months back was mediocre at best! This time I didn't even get the chance to have any food! First of all, we received a very frosty reception. The man couldn't even be bothered to stand up from his chair so I could barely see him sitting behind the counter, in the dark, and he seemed strangely perplexed after we greeted him warmly with, "hello, how are you?". I’m not sure I heard him say anything as a reply. Not a nice start. Especially as I have been waving and smiling at this man (the owner) as I am a local and pass his establishment almost daily. He has been friendly in the past (waving and smiling back) so I gave his lack of good mood and manners the benefit of the doubt and continued to look at the menu. I saw there was a panini on the menu with 'bacon, tomato and cheese'. I asked if I could have a BLT (bacon, tomato, lettuce). He promptly said. "That's not on the menu". I said, "well, couldn't you just omit the cheese and give me lettuce instead?". He rudely said, "Well, I will do it for you this time but don't ask me again". OMG! A cafe that prides itself on freshly made lunches and snacks and they won't swop a more expensive ingredient (cheese) for lettuce?? Hardly a big ask. No more effort required. But clearly it was too much trouble to do that for us. Far, far, far from good customer experience hence the one star. Needless to say, my friend and I promptly left, hungry, and we won't be back!

Beans on the full English were rock hard and the food was almost cold being served after 2 minutes of ordering. Coffee and juice however were great.

Nice little cafe at top of steep hill, nice food. Downside - no toilet on premises. However, there is public toilet 20 yards away at the bus stop up the road ! 😳

Me and my daughter placed an order and I must say really nice food and quick delivery didn't have to wait long I had chips cheese and beans and my daughter cheesy chips and curry sauce ,great stuff definitely a thumbs up from us

Cracking little place. We had to wait a bit for the food but I didn't mind in the slightest as the food is clearly cooked fresh and to order, the quality of the ingredients was obvious and the staff kept us updated. The staff were ace and easy going people. Also try the blackpudding! I highly recommend this place!

In the city of bad service this places takes the top spot. Waited 25 minutes for our first round of drinks last Friday. Tried again today to see if it was a once off and it absolutely wasn’t. Lovely food though, such a shame. Get new staff.

The delivery was very fast, and food was nice n hot. All well packaged and arrived safely. The nachos are really good and they give you all the sauces in pots rather than already in it, I find thins was great with thw picky kids. We also had BBQ chicken burgers which were really good. Nice bread rolls and salad as standard in the burgers, the bbq sauce wasn't to tangy or overpowering although the chicken it's self was a bit tough. The chips and cheese again were very good. Really enjoyed this meal, just a small shame about the chicken, would recommend as the food was still very enjoyable.

Staying just downhill from the Flat Cafe, we decided to order a takeaway breakfast on a Sunday morning as we have a big dog and thought it may be crowded. However, we were welcomed inside and made to feel comfortable whilst our food was freshly cooked. Full English Breakfast was both generous and delicious. The dog enjoyed his doggie ice cream too. We will definitely be eating at the Flat Cafe again on our next visit.

I was on a visit to Wyke and Portland on Tuesday to visit my Dad's resting place. I like to go on 1st March as it's the anniversary of his passing. This is really not ideal for a city girl in a seaside town! After numerous calls to lots of different places we eventually came across this place. He appears to be the only person who serves food in the afternoon hours, definitely the only one that would allow my dog inside (and the weather was horrendous 😭) He cooks everything fresh, the meals were really tasty, huge and good value too. He was friendly and welcoming. It has 2 small tables inside only so is primarily a takeaway/delivery service place. One thing to bear in mind if you do decide to sit in is that there is not a great deal of air indoors so you may walk out smelling of oil. Didn't stop us enjoying our meal though ☺️ Thanks!

Best cafe on the island even when he's flat out and u turn up early for an order he will do it there and then for u plus with the kids wanting meals with out chips he will add a few extras to make it a perfect meal for them. Top guy and will not order from anywhere else on the island

Only heard of the place recently and decided to give it ago. We ordered on Facebook which for someone like my mum is hard as she doesn’t really understand the internet so maybe having a phone number would really help? The food was fantastic though and I would definitely recommend the bbq chicken burger and the onion rings!! It was well put together and didn’t come all mushed in a box like some places. Would definitely order again!

Appearances are definitely diseaving with this place. The food we had was amazing. Can see why it was shortlisted for the top 10 cafes in the Dorset echo. Highly recommend.

We read all the reviews and thought it was worthy to go and have breakfast there with my family. After walking all the hill up with 2 kids (20kg) we got there at 9:10am and the owner said they were closed, when the restaurant was clearly open and Google say it opens at 9:00 but at their door there is a sign that says the open at 8:30am every single day. Really disappointed.

Lovely food at a good price, had signature burger nachos halloumi slices and chips and it went down a treat! Very good customer service will defo be returning Would of took a photo but I ate it before thinking about that lol

We have had takeaway from here several times and can highly recommend it. The food is freshly cooked, good quality and very tasty and everything we have had has been nicely cooked. We particularly recommend the breakfast as the lovely gentleman that runs it is a expert in cooking fried eggs.

Amazing food, have tried various items and is now my go-to cafe. Very friendly owner who goes out of his way to please. Burgers are lush - proper meat and not like the horrible kebab shop mush! The fish and chips is amazing - the fish is better than the local chippies! Breakfasts are great as well as the pancakes. Excellent service everytime for eat in, take away AND delivery! Finally found somewhere the whole family enjoys - even the kids!
