I visited Weymouth with my gf for an anniversary getaway, and I can honestly say this restaurant was one of the highlights and will live long in the memory! Not only was the food one of the best I've ever had, the service was fantastic (I can't remember the young lad's name but he was great) and the price was really competitive! Also, the chef came in and asked how the food was which was nice. I hope this place gets busier during the summer months, it really deserves to do well. Thanks again!

My partner and I ate here recently as we were staying at the hotel Richmoor. its located on the ground floor of the hotel, and boy am I glad we did , The chef is a guy called Alex but goes under the name of his brand name called Chunki chef. The restaurant is small, intimate and very relaxing . We were welcomed and shown to our table by very pleasant young lady, There is a good selection of wines spirits and beers on offer, but that is to be expected . What was not expected was the food , Described as "posh rustic " all I can say is WOW , My partner had beef and I had lamb and we tried each other's dish, the combination of flavours are mouth-watering delicious and the presentation was wonderful. We had three courses and every one was a delight. All in all this is fine dining at it's best for less than 25 quid each . If it was London you would be paying upwards of 100 quid per head . Weymouth has a very talented chef on there hands .

Came as a walk in on Thursday evening valentine's evening what a little diamond of a place, situated in the richmoor hotel, beautiful table setting, friendly hosts, menu was a delight, beef was stunning as was my partners pork belly, well seasoned and melted in our mouths, desert of Bakewell with custard, never seen that on a menu so I was intrigued, it was more than stunning absolutely delicious, we didn't sample the started as jumped straight into the mains, very we'll priced, I would pay more for the quality on offer, very nice touch to see the chef greeting his diners, very nice touch and needed more in other establishments. Wish this was in my area this would be a regular haunt of ours. Sublime

We went in for the steak offer. It was beautifully cooked and well presented, as was the restaurant and staff. Sadly the service lets it down. Friendly and helful staff but intermittent in their attendance. Even though the two steaks and a bottle of wine for £29.95 seems to be advertised daily, we were still charged for a bottke if wine and overcharged for both sides that we ordered. It was rectified and apologies made, it took them some considerable time to work out their errors. Some staff training and removing unsavoury guests and smokers from the entrance steps, together with a few flower pots would attract more guests to enjoy the creations if a very good chef.

After watching the carnival procession a group of 10 of us decided to go for a meal in Shelley restaurant (richmoor hotel) what a mistake that was ....we ordered the food and after a good 40 minutes we were finally served the food .....3 of our party had fish with 2 of the pieces still being frozen inside we sent them back to have more cooked but we waited a further 30 mins for the new pieces to appear even after asking twice for them ...the chef then came up and said they are on there way we told him that we couldn't wait any longer as it.was nearly 10 pm having first gone in just after 8 pm he then muttered something and walked out ....we asked to see the duty manager in which the owner of the hotel came in and the next bit was shocking....she told us that the chef in tonight was a relief chef and therefore thrown in the "deep end" as the regular chef's wife was currently in hospital not long left ...I pointed out to her what did that have to do with the situation concerning our food and I was very sorry for the chef wife ...the owner then said that she would take some money off our bill if we were not to put a review on Tripadvisor as it would ruin her reputation I call that bribery ..... I feel what she said to our party was completely unprofessional and actually quite disturbing to give such person information to complete strangers especially with 2 children sat a there ..... I certainly would not recommend this restaurant at all .

Be warned about going to the Shelley’s on the seafront over the one in the town centre! When we booked we were told that the food would not be to the level of the Dining Room but it was still very good (this was fine for me and my party). Though the food was okay (and I wouldn’t say it was any better than just okay) the experience was completely ruined by the place itself and the staff. We were the only ones in the restaurant and it took over 15 minutes just to get the drinks we ordered! On arrival of the drinks I noticed my wine glass was chipped so asked for a new one, though my glass was replaced I did not receive any sort of apology (I was more annoyed about not receiving an apology rather than the chipped glass). Another member of my party ordered a coke which tasted like funny water, I’m fully aware that coke from a tap tastes slightly different, but this tasted as though the syrup for the machine had run out! Again we asked for another and could hear a very hostile conversation in the background from the staff saying it tasted perfectly fine to them (not that they tried to keep their conversation very private from us). Now on to the food, let me reiterate that we were the only ones in the restaurant at this point, it took over an hour to get our food! At this point the majority of the party weren’t too impressed and I think this ruined our actual experience of the food. One member of the party had asked for chips instead of potatoes and not surprisingly this request was completely ignored. Our waiter asked if he should take the plate back to change it to which my friend responded that he was too hungry to wait any longer so will just eat what was given, the waiter’s response was that he would go and get an extra portion of chips for him right away. Now the bill has come, do you think the extra portion of chips was ever provided? Of course not! So I questioned the waiter about why he said he was going to bring the extra portion and didn’t do it, all I got in response was ‘sorry’ which isn’t actually an answer to my question. I sincerely hope this branch of Shelley’s is not using all the glory from the Dining Room restaurant as it certainly isn’t deserving of this reputation. We were all out for my mother’s birthday and what could have been a lovely dinner on the sea front turned out to be quite a miserable one due to the service and attitude of the staff.

In weymouth on a saturday night , with a young lady of impeccable character ( my wife ) who didn't fancy walking far from our hotel , I scouted this place at the far end of the Promenade, by the church .Bit modern and metallic , but sparkling . We kept life simple with their headline offer - 2 8oz steaks & trimmings plus a bottle of wine for £30 . An excellent meal , and we would happily go again . What really complemented it was the house wine ( we chose the Chilean Merlot ,By Healy & Gray ) , so much so that I have just ordered a crate at around £6 per bottle . Impeccably served at the ideal temperature , this made the evening . Recommended on to the hotel .

We visited Shelley's one night and to be honest regret it. This was one of the most disappointing meals we have had. We chose from the menu the belly pork with apple. To start with they had no apple sauce to serve with it. When it arrived it was smothered in gravy. It would of been nice to have chosen where the gravy was put not just have it poured all over the meal. Then when we stared eating we discovered one of the pieces of belly pork was 90% fat. The small piece of meat on it was a joke. The way the staff treated us when I complained about the food was appalling and disrespectful. If you want good food while in Weymouth I suggest you cross the road to Al Molo.

Went here for meal last night. Steak for two and a bottle of wine £29.95. We selected a bottle from the list and the young lad came back with aternative saying that they never had what we asked for chilled enough so ok excepted that. Them food well we asked for one steak well done and one medium rare. When they came out looked fantastic. Bit on inspection my steak was undercooked and was far from well done. So was taken back to the kitchen to be cooked more. Mean while I nibbled on the onion rings which where really nice. I did notice that there was 3 members of staff and where all very young and one had only just started work the day before. They stud around discussing my under cooked steak. When it came back I enjoyed alot. The table next to me ordered the same wine as we originally order and they hot a very cold bottle strange?. What upset me the most was even when I complain they where aloud to stay was a man and his dog came into the restaurant and sat and have a beer. Very un hygienic. But the lad said I no its so bad. then told the man that I had made a complaint he was happy but I was not I am a dog lover buy they don't go in a restaurant unless a aided dog. Went here for an evening meal at the end of June. Two of us had the steak meal offer of two steaks with a bottle of win for £29.95. I had the pasta dish. The presentation of the steak was excellent - it was beautiful! In fact I was sorry that I didn't have a camera to take a picture. It was very tender as well. Only the chips/potatoes which were served separately in a pot, could have done with being smaller in size - they were huge! The service that night wasn't up to standard because they had been let down by staff, so members of the hotel were doubling up to help out, but I'm sure it would be fine when they have their normal compliment of staff. Would I eat here again? Most definitely. Modern ambience on the prom.

We booked here while on holiday in Weymouth because we had seen some good reviews and we were not disappointed. Two of us shared their steak offer. Two pieces of steal plus a bottle of wine for £29. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. It came with some of the best hand cut chips I have ever eaten, mushroom, tomato and peas. All beautifully presented. One of our group is vegetarian and had the sautéed gnocchi with wild mushrooms. She was so happy. Her first comment was "from now on I am going to start sautéing my gnocchi!". She said they were definitely her best ever gnocchi eating experience and was a very happy diner. Our fourth member had the crispy pork belly. A very generous portion and she too was full of praise for the presentation and flavours. Our puddings were also of a very high standard; a chocolate and pecan brownie so enormous that even though two of us shared it ( it was yummy) we couldn't finish it. The other two had cherry & almond clafoutis. They had to wait 15 minutes as they were cooked to order. The wait was worth it.Our waiter Scott was friendly, helpful and very responsive to all our needs.I cannot imagine how they can produce such quality for the ridiculously small price we paid.I advise people to book quickly before they double the prices.

An Easter weekend away in Weymouth to visit family included a sunday lunch at Shelleys Restaurant in The Richmoor Hotel.Having lived, worked and visited many times to Weymouth, I am aware that it is not a culinary hot bed, and have endured many, at best, average dining experiences, I had hoped for better here. Sadly not.Our table was booked downstairs in the carvery area, but due to a busy service, we were moved to the upstairs dining room. This was a real blessing, as downstairs was like a furnace, and in desperate need of air conditioning. while upstairs is a calm, clean, modern area, with a pleasant sea view. The food was not poor, just lacking real flavour and seasoning. The starters included a black pudding dish, which sounded good on the menu, but when it arrived it was with a bit of over cooked roast pork, some bland mash and a tasteless powder mix gravy- ruining a very good black pudding ! The soup was fine and seemed homemade. Our main courses were from the carvery, and again a bit bland and not well seasoned. the veg selection was ok and generally not to over cooked, but no greens, and again not seasoned. One big downer- the gravy- awful . No excuse if your cooking all those joints in house, which the chef assured me they did.Limited desserts, but we had the homemade apple crumble which was ok.Drinks selection was fine and not over priced, and a simple wine list, again not over priced. The service here needs some work. The staff were all polite and pleasant but there was a lack of any real food service skills and knowledge here. one point in particular, and a real bug bear of mine, Dont clear plates until all guests have finished eating. I pointed this out to the young man clearing us, but he still carried on !!Prices here were not over the top, although the 8.95 carvery main course price was bumped up to 12.95 when I used the tastecard to pay. Naughty, and against the principal of the taste card offer. This review may seem a bit harsh on a restaurant that is generally no worse than any of the 30 or so restaurants I have tried throughout the town which I have not reviewed. But with some staff training, and some effort with some cooking, flavouring and seasoning techniques, you have the chance to move away from the very mediocre standard of Weymouth restaurants.

Went there the other night for the first time and was really impressed! Great service by very friendly, professional staff. The restaurant itself was was tastefully decorated and as well as been very tasty, the food was also great value for money - our party enjoyed the steak deal. A bonus was the nice views over the seafront. Definitely recommend!

This restaurant, situated in the basement of the Richmoor Hotel, is right on the Esplanade opposite the Pier Bandstand. There are loads of good quality restaurants in Weymouth and this ranks up with the best. We (5 adults) visited for the Sunday carvery and were a bit wary of being in a basement but the owners have done a lovely job in creating a bright, modern room with about 10 tables, 3 of which were set out for 6 people. Moving onto the food - we were presented with a choice of 4 joints of meat, not just the usual beef and pork. All the usual vegetables were available. Starters and desserts (priced extra) and a nice selection of wines complemented the meal which was a real treat. The restaurant wasn't busy which is a shame as it deserves to succeed.

My wife and I dined last Saturday evening and had the steak offer. Good value and tender steaks. The waiter, Jack, was really attentive even when two quite large groups of people came in for drinks. Thank you. Will be back when next in the area.

I have been here twice recently - in December for a Christmas party and again in January with a large group of friends. The food on both occasions was excellent. Food is arranged beautifully on the plate; they were ample, tasty portions served piping hot by attentive staff. What more could one ask.

Stumbled across Shelley's Restaurant through the Gourmet Society card. Staying on the other side of town, it was quite a bit out of our way, but was well worth the trip. Menu was small, but varied and food was beautiful. The service was spot on throughout the night, very attentive, on the ball and polite. Special thanks in particular to Jack who provided us with truly excellent service. This place really is a hidden gem, and we will certainly be returning!

The health department has placed it on a final warning. everything is from a local cash n carry, in a packet. NO FRESH PRODUCE. they use peanut and vegetable oil, have no info on allergens. I was asked to work here, had ALL of my tips taken by the owner.

We visited on a Sunday after winning a voucher at a raffle, the food was delicious and plentiful and the service was good. The prices were lower than most carveries in town (we took more people than were covered by the voucher) and the quality of the food was very good.

Just got back from a fantastic Sunday Carvery at Shelley's within the Richmoor Hotel. We have lived in Weymouth for many years and have had many Sunday carvery meals at various heating houses but this has been by far the best in terms of friendliness, cleanliness and food. The food was absolutely amazing. Our compliments to the Chef - who was also hands on - serving out the carvery. I know people say well, it's just a carvery but this was amazing (and I have to say especially the carrots). Also the service - second to none - Irish Em who iShelley's Restaurant but we certainly intend to visit again to sample more of their choices. Very kind Regards to all at Shelley's from Pat and Gren.

We visited Shelley's at 6pm on a Sunday. Initial greeting was pleasant enough, it was not busy. There were about 4 tables occupied, not much of an atmosphere and the music was too loud, one customer complained about this. We chose to have the carvery and stood waiting for service, we were told they'd be along in a while, we waited several minutes more and were then told I'll go and get the chef to cut the meat ', we waited longer, he then said he'd go and get a knife. After about 10 minutes standing in front of the food, we decided to leave. It didn't look very appetising either, and the only vegetable was carrot.

Originally we weren't going to visit this restaurant having been put off by a few negative comments, but we popped our heads in to see what it was like, where we were greeted by lovely Emily, and instantly decided we would like to try it and make our own minds up. And we are SO glad we did! Jack was our waiter, he was helpful, kind and had a sense of humour. The food was excellent, I would strongly recommend the goats cheese salad starter and the Rump Steak with Horseradish mash also the chocolate fondant was insatiable! If I HAD to find fault I would suggest the music could be perhaps be something different to classical and a little louder as we could all hear each other talking on different tables, and perhaps a wine cooler would be nice. But honestly ignore any bad comments about food and service- they were lovely! I recommend you try it.

We were looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't the typical "British Seaside Food" and came across Shelley's Restaurant. We were a bit apprehensive at first as its in the basement of a guesthouse. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who said we could sit where-ever we wanted. The menu looked to be quite limited but there is something for everyone, even fussy eaters like my Father. If you ask for a slight variation on a dish, its not a problem and your meal will arrive exactly how you wanted it.The food is absolutely delicious and there is a lot of it. I can not compliment the chef enough. None of us could find any fault with any of our courses. If you want a good tasty meal that's value for money then you need to eat here, you will not be disappointed. The staff are very attentive and are always smiling. My Mum wanted to cuddle our waitress as she thought she was so sweet! We had 3 starters, 3 mains, 3 desserts, 2 pints of beer, 1 bottle of Pinot Grigio, which all came to £101. Very reasonable. Well done Shelley's, you were the talk of our little trip to Weymouth!

We found the food at Shelley's acceptable, our starters were nice, the main meal again nice however the chips served were far too well cooked verging on burnt. Its clear alot of heart has gone into this place however the decor is cheap, tacky silk flowers, wall canvases that can be brought from Argos/ebay, the tables and chairs are like ones you'd see in a school/factory canteen (10 yrs ago). The staff are very friendly but the service is a little lapsidaisy. For these reasons I feel the food is over priced, it would be better aimed at the pub food market where the place belongs.

A great experience once again. 5th time at The Avenue and it never fails to deliver first class food and service. The students are a credit to the college. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail make the experience a real pleasure. We thoughally enjoyed the lunch and experience as usual and can't wait to return in the very near future.

Mixed review: A warm and friendly welcome, clean and tidy. Day one: breakfast was lovely, all appeared freshly cooked so it took a little longer, the food was nice and of great value. Feel like there was a whole can of beans for the 'beans on toast' and it was piping hot. The pot of tea was plentiful The 'coffee' milkshake was more like warm milk, not the best. Day two: ordered the thick shake this time - meant to be with ice cream and so thought that would make it cooler and tastier - wrong, it was the same as the previous visit with cream and sprinkles - not the best (if you want a nice thick iced coffee, visit the White Stones cafe). The food took a bit longer again as it was Sunday and busy. The mushroom on toast was cold but we were on a time crunch, so we couldn't send it back. The taste was nice, just cold and the black pudding was a bit on the rubbery side. Everyone else enjoyed theirs.
