Terrible, stinks of frying throughout building, very overpowering in lobby and bar, seeped into our room two floors up! drawers in room still had previous guests underwear, we were asked not to use shower due to new sealant having just been applied?? We'd booked 2 nights but they only had us booked for our 2nd night - it was farcical from start to finish - cobwebs on windowsills, pillows were like sandbags and bed very uncomfortable - lovely area but we made such a mistake booking here

That’s our second visit to the lovely Flask Inn! Not only is it dog friendly and has a lovely character to the building, but their breakfast was one of the best I’ve had for a long time! Sarah and Nick were extremely friendly and helpful, and dinner at the pub was just perfect. It’s so close to Robin’s hood bay and Whitby that we’ll keep going to this amazing establishment to enjoy more short breaks in this beautiful area.

Food prices were extortionate considering it was pub grub. Child’s meal was chicken nuggets and chips, but resembled batter fried in more batter and a tiny bit of chicken in the middle once I’d cut off the batter. For the adult meal we picked one of the only non greasy options, the curry. This was a nice meal and would recommend trying if you visit

This was our first time here but it will become our regular place to visit because it’s just perfect in so many ways. As it is the only pub around and the weather was horrendous we had to stay. We ordered food, over priced and microwaved food. I ordered the chicken burger and it was disgusting. I had to send it back, it smelt off, with a really weird taste.I told the waitress and she just said oh! We were staying very close by at Grouse Hill campsite and got in touch with the Flask Inn to enquire about booking tables one evening. They immediately asked how many it was for. I responded with 8 families. I realise in the current climate many places are not taking large booking however we could of all sat at different tables to accommodate social distancing. Unfortunately we were not even allowed to explore any options as to how we could dine at the Flask Inn as they replied with..... ‘Sorry we don’t have the capacity for that sort of numbers , We have our own residents and regulars who use the pub . I am sorry but I am afraid you won’t be allowed in’. I’m wasn’t expecting that reply! The locals and regulars take priority over visiting trade. So disappointing. Again, as mentioned above I appreciate COVID has impacted on the ‘norm’ however they didn’t use that as a valid reason to turn us away, instead their regulars are more important. Such a shame.

Since new management a couple or so years ago rarely seems to be open when we pass and from speaking to regulars this place has been driven down the pan in recent times, Last time we staid it wasn't as good as previous visits and our family who stayed and used to visit say the same and won't go in anymore. 5 family’s went in August for a meal. The food was good and we enjoyed the drinks. The staff were friendly. The following day one of the young girls was desperate for the toilet so we didn’t see it being a problem to quickly use the toilet as we got off the bus and walked back to the campsite. Especially considering we had spent £300 the previous night. A man said the toilets were out of order. Very disappointed so we won’t be returning for the rest of the holiday.

This is not Vegetarian friendly the Vegetarian section on the menu is called the “ Vegetable Menu”. It had very little choice especially if you don’t like cheese. The broccoli and Stilton soup was clearly from a packet and was still grainy I have made better whilst camping. The burger buns were very dry and the chips were certainly not “thrice cooked” more barely cooked. Mine were cold in the middle and the onions rings were not cooked on the bottom. The salad was curled and dry. I can only assume after reading the other reviews they have changed their chef recently. I have had better food at half the price at a greasy spoon cafe. Can not recommend this.

Staying at the caravan park behind the pub so called in for tea on Easter Sunday. Pub was quite busy but found a table ok. 2 adult fish and chips and scampi and chips. We were told there was a half hour wait for food which we didn’t mind. The food actually took 1.15 mins. They seemed under staffed and struggling with the food orders, which might of been due to the bank holiday weekend. Food was above average, although things were missing off our order but as the waitress didn’t understand any English at all, we just didn’t bother as we were starving and just wanted to eat.

My husband had 'steak pie' , it had 3 pieces of meat with a lot of carrot and jelly instead of gravy - it wasn't described as steak and veg! My daughter had sweet and sour chicken..the sauce was made of ketchup and inedible. I ordered haddock chips and peas..the haddock had a foul taste and smell so I asked for it to be changed....another fish arrived, again inedible (if one piece of fish in a box is off, why serve another?).

También mencionó sobre el tamaño de mi carne, ya que no era tan grande como yo hubiera esperado por £20 y me dijeron que era de 10 onzas cada filete. Visited as we were staying close by and we're severely let down by the food. It's a lovely pub and has great potential, the ales are superb and the wine choice is limited but good value.Ordered 2 steaks with "all the trimmings" and unfortunately they had run out of chips so decided to serve us deep fried roast potatoes masked as chips. The rib eye steak which is meant to be the tastiest cut of meat was bland and unseasoned and full of grease. My wife ordered the scampi and was disgusted to find the entrail of the prawns had not been cleaned and had a strong line of black running through the whole batch of scampi (obviously using cheap produce which I don't understand when you can see The sea from the restaurant) We voiced our concerns to be told that this was the way they always served the food and that if we return tomorrow to ask for the "kids chips" as if it was our fault. We visit Whitby and Scarborough regularly and will not be returning!

Enticed by the fresh home cooked food signs and the so called triple cooked chips. The steak pie turned out to be a pastry topping which had a very strange consistency and appeared to have been cooked separately to the meat underneath as it was just placed on top. None of the juices had found their way into it. In fact there wasn't really any flavour in the steak at all and no gravy! The chips were awful and if they were triple cooked they must have only seen the inside of the pan for a few minutes each.Someone else I see has also noted that they seemed undercooked if anything and I would agree with that. One of our party had the fish pie which was a small portion and very doubtfully home made. Maybe home cooked means that it was literally just put in the oven on the premises but not prepared there? We didn't come away feeling well fed and it was expensive for what it was. The premises are tired but the toilets are modern and well kept.

We had called into the adjacent cafe for coffee a couple of times and were recommended the restaurant for dinner. Upon walking in, we first noted that it was all but empty. Surprising, since it was Mother's Day. Deciding to have a pre-dinner drink, I walked to the bar where two well dressed, middle aged staff were in discussion, seemingly to do with the bar accounts. I stood in front of these two people for maybe 45 seconds (a long time when you know you are being ignored) until the female staff member finally said 'yes?'. Not being a local, I asked about the tap beers, looking for a local bitter, or something more appetising than the trendy blonde beers in so many pubs. I was rudely told 'this is a bitter! The name was not familiar and I asked if it was a dark beer. After a look from the server, the male staff member then stepped in and curtly said 'it's the darkest we have' before returning to his accounts. My wife then asked about food only to have a menu thrust at her by the same rude woman. We sat and quickly had our drinks and left, thankfully coming across the delightful Bryherstones Pub (see separate review) on our way back to Ravenscar.

This pub had gone up market since our last visit to Flask Caravan park and it didn't really appear to work.On our first evening we decided not to cook but to stroll to the pub for some food.Firstly if you don't reserve a table you sit in the bar area and try like we did to attract the waiting staff. When they eventually come over with a menu it's took off you before you can ask about the food.I felt that because you were not in dining room, you were treated slightly different. I ordered a burger which the menu lead you to believe was home produced, it wasn't more like a supermarket quarter pounder, it was not very nice and was quite rubbery to eat. We didn't enjoy our experience and has a result drove a few miles for something to eat, if we were not cooking.

The very polite barman let us bring the dog into the bar, which was great, we sat in the corner as not to disturb anyone else.. Asked if we could eat later on in the night with the dog and his answer was yes, but not in the main restaurant but in the bar area. Which was perfectly fine by us as it wasn't busy. When we arrive the table was set for us. We both had soup which was lovely and served in dishes with lids and some bread, nice touch. I do remember when the Sunday carvery was THE place to go at the Flask, not too many years ago either. I returned from China having eaten two weeks' worth of rubbish food, woke up at five because of jetlag, and travelled four hours by bus and train to the Flask to get a decent Sunday dinner. The food was very good, with a proper Yorkshire pudding, and the staff were very nice and very attentive, but there were only about five people in the place. Granted it was raining, but people usually go for a Sunday dinner whatever the weather, not on a whim. The bull's horn over the fireplace where you had to try and throw a ring on a string over had gone, one thing everybody remembered about the place.I found the price slightly expensive: the portions of food were OK but could have benefited from an extra potato, another bit of beef etc, It seems to have tried to go upmarket but not quite succeeded in attracting enough custom. I do hope they can adjust things and get it right - and as I said, the food was very good - as the staff were excellent.

Our close friends had booked a table of 16 on Friday evening 21/6/15 as part of the celebration of her 40th birthday, we were staying at the nearby campsite, it was a mixture of adults and children. On arrival staff were polite and friendly and swiftly took our food order, myself and my partner ordered the homemade steak and ale pie which was delicious , perhaps we should of ordered some additional gravy, our 2 children had the homemade chicken nuggets , nice to see they had made the effort with the kids meals unlike most places, the kids both enjoyed their tasty meals.Half of our table of 16 were delayed in Friday traffic and the landlord explained that the kitchen shut at 8.30PM AND NO LATER, we then decided to order meals for 4 members of the party arriving late and the Landlord agreed to keep the meals warm, they arrived at 9 pm , the food was served promptly and everyone enjoyed there meal, at this point I requested desert and was told as the kitchen was closed it was 'ice cream or nothing 'We heard a rumour that the pub had a policy of no children on the premises after 09.30pm, I assumed at this point that this would not be enforced as our full party of 18 had arrived and an additional 4 persons all keen to spend more money at the bar! However the landlord made it clear that he would be enforcing the 9.30pm children rule, he was clearly more concerned about upsetting the 5 locals sat around the bar than 22 people spending more money in his premises.I noted that around the corner from the bar was a decent sized restaurant area, he easily could have asked our group to move there so as not to upset the 5 locals at the bar. Whilst leaving the birthday girl picked up a coat off our table ( which she thought belonged to a member of our party) one of the 5 locals then rudely bellowed 'THATS MINE, PUT IT BACK THERE NOW', at this point the 'American werewolf in London ' attitude was exposed , everyone agreed that the food was great but we would not be going back there

We'd stayed on teh caravan site behind the Flask Inn 3 years ago when they were undergoing extensive restoration work. The food then was superb. We were passing and so though we'd drop in now the work was completed. We sat outside, with our dogs, in the lovely little garden.Service was excellent. In fact the waiting staff were outside with our cutlery and condiments before my wife even got back from the bar!!The food was as good, maybe even better, than before.Definitely worth stopping if you are passing by...

The Flask inn is the closest pub to Grouse Hill Caravan Park. It's medium-sized, busy and very well run. All the staff are super-friendly and efficient and the pub and restaurant areas are well defined. Dogs are welcome in the bar. We visted twice - once for an early evening drink and secondly for an early evening family meal. In advance had called to reserve a table but being fully booked was invited to take a chance which paid off - we secured an early table in the bar. Food was delicious and plentiful and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Worthy of the 4 stars it is rated online.

Recently visited here as I had read about a new menu. Ordered the fish pie which although on the small side was still very nice. I was very disappointed to find it came with some lettuce leaves instead of vegetables as one would expect, so rather pricey for the fish pie and lettuce. My husband ordered the steak pie which came as a beef casserole and a 'lid' of herb pastry which he couldn't eat as it was rock hard. When will caterer's catch on to the fact that a pie is a made up of filling TOTALLY enclosed by pastry and NOT stewed meat with a square of pastry on top. All in all, we were not impressed and would not return unless things vastly improved.

We had two meals at The Flask Inn in one week. The first being Sunday lunch which was excellent, very good value for money and high quality food. The cost of this meal was £69 for 2 adults 3 course meals, an adults 2 course meal, a child's 2 course meal and 2 drinks per person (4 Capri sun, 2 glasses of wine & 2 pints). The second meal was a Friday night, the service was good but the standard of food and the value was poor. The children's portions were very small and for basic 'pub grub' the prices were over inflated, £55 for 2 children's meals, 2 starters (which were not great), 2 main courses and 4 drinks - a glass of wine, pint of Guinness, a small lemonade and an orange squash. Had our first experience of The Flask Inn been on the Friday night we would not have returned. The staff were very friendly and attentive on both visits.

My girlfriend and I were staying across the road in the holiday park and wandered over to The Flask Inn last Friday. There aren't a wealth of options in terms of places to eat so our expectations weren't high, but we were very delighted with the meal we were provided. The menu not swamped with tradtional pub classics and the portion sizes offered excellent value for money. For the most part we were the only customers in but I am sure this was more to do with the weather (the fog was very thick) and the time of year. The lady behind the bar was lovely and very helpful. We came back the next night.Location seems remote but is equidistant from Whitby and Scaborough.

Called at the Flask for Sunday lunch for the first time in many a year. In years gone by we would have been queuing at the door but those days are clearly long gone. The Sunday lunch menu was uninspiring (basically Beef or Turkey dinner) but the quality was OK. Desert of bake well tart was excellent. At 1:00 PM a Sunday there was only 6 people in the place which says a lot for its reputation. I hope it's on the way back because it used to be an excellent pub. At least there are signs that it is

We had a quick lunch on the way to Robin Hoods Bay, it was quiet but the food was lovely very homely and even the chips were from peeled potatoes and freshly cooked( the texture was a give away) and very obligingly they doubled a starter to make main course. It was certainly good enough to want to go there again

We arrived just before 8pm on Wed 10th Sept. The restaurant wasn't busy but it wasn't quiet either. We found a table in the corner for the four of us and our menus arrived. The first comment from the group was how good the menu looked. I wasn't particularly hungry but decided to try the fish cake starter as too did my husband. The poach egg on top was cooked to perfection on both fishcake starters and the pork pate looked lovely. This was shared between two and went down well. For mains I had the ravioli with was perfect, my husband had the gammon which again was delicious his mum had the fish pie and has to leave some due to the generous portion. My husband's step father had the steak pie and we all passed comment on how nice it was to see a proper pie on the plate and not a filled pie dish with pastry placed on top. Unusually for our group none of us had dessert due to being happy and satisfied after our savory courses. The service we received was excellent and the facilities spot on. This was my first time here and won't be my last. Thank you for saving what had been a very bad day.

Eating solo after a long drive I popped in here. Staff very helpful but I am glad I didnt bring my husband who likes more food in a meal than I do! It was sufficient. But small. And too picky, everything measured out. No feeling of feeding a hungry traveller. Just how much can we get away with? Or how little. The staff were coping, but it was really quiet. Another example of the owner being absent, or maybe it was the owner making so much noise with his cronies in the bar. Which was enough to put anyone off.

Popped in on the way home from a long drive, was starving! The food arrived quickly but was served on a thin wooden bread-board/platter so was losing heat rapidly. The chips were in a mini metal basket so they were cooling even faster. I really dont like eating off bread-boards so I asked for a plate, the waitress brought me a small plate that was stone cold and I tipped my by now luke warm scampi, chips and salad onto it.The scampi was very tasty and the chips were pretty good too, though not a huge portion. The salad would have been better with a less powerful dressing or the choice not to have dressing.Overall, I I would try this place again but would ask for my food to be served on a warmed up plate. Where did this fashion for serving food on bread-boards come from? They cant be cleaned the same as plates so are unhygeinic and cant be pre-warmed so food is cold before you have finished it unless you are a really fast eater, which I am not.

Great pub for the non-fussy, straight up pie and chips brigade. Does good solid portions, nothing fussy, filling and hearty meals. Mains about £10, kids menu about £5.Good range of drinks, dog friendly and nice outside when it's sunny and not blowing a gale.A good walkers, bikers and campers stop off. Will defo come again. Decor a bit dated but my belly didn't complain!

To be fair looking at the flask you would think it a normal holiday park type pub. It's nice, a good atmosphere and looks like an ordinary pub. But oh boy we were treated to excellent food. The food would not be out of place in a decent restaurant. The fish pie starter was amazing and infact the whole menu looked great and at decent prices. I'm rating this 4 because of the food and because it's of such a quality you don't normally expect to find. If you want decor, intimacy etc go find a decent restaurant (see my other review). But the chef clearly knows what he/she are doing and the service was great. Saying that the pub is looking a bit tired inside and could do with a spruce up.

Every time I visit Whitby/Scarborough/ Robin Hoods Bay I always make time to visit the Flask. Been there three times now and the food is great quality. On the last occasion I had a pork burger which was absolutely gorgeous especially with their home made chips. The restaurant is clean and tidy and the staff are really helpful and friendly. The only issue I have is that on all three times I have been there, there was an issue with the card machine so take cash with you just in case!

Excellent food extremely clean and tastefully decorated room. Staff very friendly and helpful, bus stop outside for trip to either scarborough or whitby and cheap taxi back. Not a party ace but good for chilling and relaxing after a hard week at work - well worth a visit. Only negative was that the walls dividing the two rooms adjacent to each other were extremely thin we could hear everything and that included an extremely loud person snoring all night long and during afternoon nap it was the loudest snoring we have ever heard !!! So ear plugs Are required!'

The Flask is situated adjacent to our caravan site and is a welcome hostelry for meals and drinks. In recent years it was run by a not so friendly couple who were very opinionated and managed to alienate almost all of the regulars. The original owners are now back in charge and its brilliant! The food is top notch and the bar sells just about everything. It has had a complete facelift and is so welcoming now.Welcome back Nick!!!

Called late Saturday evening and was worried about not having booked, no problem we managed to get a table. Husband was over the moon that they had one portion of fish pie left and he wasn't disappointed I went for the steak burger very tasty. Our two grandchildren chose off the children's menu scampi for one and steak n ale pie for the other as they both have good appetites maybe we should have let them have adult meals (very small portions). The sweet menu was very limited and a little overpriced but very enjoyable.

We ate here when staying at Grouse Hill campsite.I feel bad giving this place an average review, but when we arrived in the door we didn't feel welcome at all. Having been ignored for five minutes I had to ask if it was OK to sit in the dining area for food. Once sitting, the serving staff were very friendly, and couldn't do enough. The meals were lovely and large portions. Dessert was really nice and contrary to other reviews I found the choice adequate.Following a nice meal, again the woman behind the bar ignored us again. I'm not sure she knows what a bad impression this leaves with you, but despite the good food I would think twice before going to eat there again which is a shame.

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough
