The Five Rise Locks Cafe in Bradford

More quality than a lot of the cafes in town here, it really is a gem & a reason in itself to walk the canal :-) Just don't look at the cakes or you'll buy them all!!!

Beautiful cakes, especially the passion fruit sponge. Coffee tasty. Lovely homely atmosphere.

Excellent place to visit. Great atmosphere, great food at good prices. Highly recommended. Very friendly staff. Toilet available, too, which is useful on longer walks. I have lots of trips down the canal just to come here and definitely recommend it to others. Great views of the canal and hills, too.

Excellent scenery with an excellent cake in an excellent weather. Who can dare to say but enjoy the sun and the food. One thing to notice is opening times. They are different in the winter but when is winter? I am not sure.🤔

Sitting on the canal side with a nice pot of tea and a Yorkshire rascal was a great treat. The five rise locks are a fantastic engineering feat and very close by.

Lovely cafe but please sort your opening times out! Sign on door - 5pm, Google - 4.30pm, shut at 4pm!!!

Tidy little café by the 5 locks. After a nice walk down the locks it's a great place to grab a small snack and drink. Staff were very friendly and it is well kept.

Nice cafe and food but when the waitress has patted all the dogs on their heads( which I know are irresistible). Can she wash her hands afterwards. I saw her go back to her job but no washing of her hands

Chose to eat outside, really friendly staff, situated right by the five rise locks, great food, loved the place would recommend, parking can be an issue though, but great if your just strolling down or up the canal

The Five Rise Locks Cafe continues to be superb in all of the years we've visited. The service from the staff is always friendly and helpful even they get a surge in numbers (which happens quite a bit due to the popularity of the canalside location). The food is reliably excellent at all times of year. We're lucky to have a few cracking cafes in Bingley and this is right at the top of my list. It does what it does very well. Sandwiches, soups, paninis and breakfasts. The cakes are worth a trip alone, on this visit an iced blueberry cake was moist, light and packed with flavour. Highly recommended!

I recently visited this cafe during my daily walks, attracted by its beautiful location by the canal. However, I was disappointed by the fact that dogs were allowed inside. While the staff was friendly, I personally felt uncomfortable when a dog jumped on the counter and was taken behind the food preparation area. As someone who isn't very comfortable with dogs, this was a major concern for me. I hope the cafe takes steps to ensure a more hygienic and comfortable environment for all patrons.

Cafe is in a fantastic location at the top of the locks great place to sit by the canal bank. Looks like they have a fantastic selection of cakes but just stopped for a brew. The only down side was the service and attitude of one of the young girls who was working behind the till. Was very off putting

The young girl who served us needs to learn how to smile and great customers. It seemed as though she didn't want to be there. Other than that, the food and coffee were good.

Great place for a snack, coffee or ice cream. Or even all three. Very friendly and efficient staff. They are usually busy but service still good.

Such a friendly café and the best decaf latte I've had.

Great canal side cafe to grab a bacon sandwich and a pot of Yorkshire tea whilst you’re on the Leeds Liverpool canal. A couple of the tables are located by sockets if you need to charge your 📱. Gents and Ladies washrooms. No hot food after 14:00.

Even Mid April .. noon , feel like 3’c 🥶. After walk around for photographed , small warm rest in this cafe . Look nice inside , many choices of light foods. Clean toilets . Really relax for coffee & touch up ours photo . Good view from inside too .

Delightful café at the top of the Five Rise Locks. We had tea and fat rascals. Some outside seating on the canal which you can watch the narrow boats go by.

Great little cafe. Prices reasonable given where it is and there's no competition. The bathroom was immaculate. My only mild negative, is as couple of the staff could smile, looked like they wanted to jump in the canal.

We called in on Sunday but were disappointed to see they stop serving hot food a full 2 hours before they actually close. That said we had Millionaire's shortbread and it was gorgeous.

Staff working really hard but still tables not cleared. The toastie/ panini maker was broken so none available. Had to have a jacket potato but that then had numerous black areas. Plenty of filling in the spud. Toilets were clean.

Just love this place, and it has baby changing!

If walking along the Leeds-Liverpool canal or just visiting the 5-Rise Locks, one cannot make a better choice than to call into this cafe. It is a place we call into many a time when walking our dog in the area. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. We generally just have a coffee and a little snack, there is plenty on offer and both coffee and cakes are always great. Even dogs are catered for, the sausage goes down really well! Always a popular spot, be it with cyclists, walkers or visitors to the area, this café is a good place to call in for a snack or something more substantial.

Lovely little cafe, well worth a visit when passing. Plenty of character in the building. Lovely in the summer with tables onto the canal. But not in January. Very pleasant staff.

Lovely local cafe based in a great location. Has everything going for it, but just a couple of things letting it down from being a 5 star IMO. Firstly, our breakfast was only luke warm, like it had been waiting a few minutes before being served, also would benefit from a slightly more communicative, friendly staff member. The young ladies were nice enough, but could do with picking up a few friendly social skills. Other than these issues, a great place to visit

Great bacon sandwiches. Would have been 5 stars all the way, but having booked a table for 8 (which booking was accepted) when we arrived at the scheduled time, we were told they don't book tables. We had to split into two groups, but no doubt both smaller tables enjoyed gossiping about those not sat with them!

Had a lovely breakfast this morning!

I have visited and eaten and drank coffee at this cafe, a number of times and always enjoyed what ever I have chosen. But today I was very thirsty, so I bought two small bottles of juice, to start my stroll along the lock, I was very shocked when she charged me £2.50 per bottle, when the young female said £5.00, I thought I had misheard so I replied 2.50 per small bottle, she said yes, I have in the past always thought the food and drinks were reasonable, but that really made me think twice. No reciept, after our walk, I went back and purchased 2 coffees, two buns/cake, total 10.50 I asked for a reciept none of the items were itemised, I thought goods had to be itemised, very disappointed. I wonder if it's new management.

Went to the five locks cafe today and it was lovely. No e place nice staff and good food. I.had a chicken sandwich crisps salad and coleslaw very nice and served quickly. Anne walker

Very good spot to stop while walking the canal. Next to the famous five rise locks. I am a regular here as I cycle to here very often. Staff are always very friendly the coffee is great and they have great options for cake, various food options, drinks and ice cream. Seating inside and outside they also have areas to lock your bike. Highly recommended.

Trying out new places for a coffee with friends, first time I’d visited and pleasantly surprised. We were sat outside in beautiful sunshine overlooking the canal. Coffee was good and the ambience excellent - worth going once you find how to get there (other than along the canal)

Lovely place to go either for a meal or just a snack. Great choices on the menu and the quality is excellent. If you are in to cakes and cookies there is a lot of choice as well as scoop ice cream. Ice cream also available for dogs (dog friendly ice cream) Dogs are welcome inside. Nice to sit by the canal weather permitting. 😊

Very nice food. Pleasant staff and lovely location on the canal mooring. Update 2/10/22 several visits here and always great food and quick service. Several of us in the cycling group but no significant delays in food from full breakfast to lovely cakes

Been many times, unfortunately it smells of dogs now so won't be eating inside again. It may be dog friendly but I'm not.

Stopped here mid walk for a refill. At the time we visited it was busy as it was midday on a bank holiday. We had coffee and a pannie, nice enough coffee and filling pannie Staff are friendly and service is efficient. Great views of the 5 locks. The cafe is visited by lots of dog walkers and people cycling the canal path

Great cafe with plenty of choice of hot and cold drinks. Good range of hot food and snacks as well. Love the bacon sandwich. Plenty of tables inside and outside. Takeaway as well

Got there at closing time, and the staff were in a rush to count the coun and get out of there. They were polite, but the hike up the locks is a great experience, but I would not again make the trek only for the cafe.

Delicious toasties eaten outside watching the canal all we needed was the sun and it would have been perfect. The coffee was so good we had two each!

Nice place to stop for a cuppa no matter how you get there. Seeing Queen guitarist Brian May playing Bagpipes outside was an added bonus!

6 of us called in for brunch after a cold walk along the canal. We got a warm welcome, and some good bacon sausage egg etc.sandwiches and a full breakfast from an extensive menu. Delicious food and drinks served quickly and efficiently with a smile, and exceptional value. We loved it We’ll be back!

Cracking place in a cracking location! Right at the top of the 5-lock canal. It's small inside but ample seating outside, too. Tried a Manchester Tart for the first time and loved it!

We arrived in time for the cooked breakfast, which was excellent, with a nice pot of tea that gave us both 2 cups. We only knew about the cafe because of Tripadvisor, but it was a great place to arrive at after a long drive to see the locks. There were nice loos too.

Disappointed. There was no hot food after 2pm despite the place being busy (it was a Saturday). The sandwich we ordered instead was distinctly light on filling!! More like thick bread with a scraping of tuna on. One positive, the scone was nice. Would neither recommend nor visit again. Shame.

I had such a bad humiliating experience from this place, brought my 2 children and my dog for a coffee and a break from the walking that we did. Staff didn’t help me carry my tray to my table when I had hold of my young son and my dog. My daughter spilt juice all over the table staff again didn’t help me was expected to struggle and clean it up myself bearing in mind I still had hold of my younger son and my dog. My son ran off in the kitchen again staff didn’t help me had to fetch my dog into the kitchen to grab him and I was getting stared at. My son was being very difficult for me and non of the staff did nothing to help me just got stared at. I felt so embarrassed they could have at least come over to me and asked if I was okay or given my chid a colouring book or something. I got home and was that upset how I had been treated called the manager and she didn’t seem bothered she said we don’t cater for children. Hmmm okay that’s weird because you have a children’s menu so clearly you do cater for children. She didn’t care. So embarrassing for a mother i was so stressed and upset. Not nice hospitality here.

Great full Engliah breakfast, and lovely Yorkshire tea. A perfect way to spend an hour of the morning on the waterways as the rain falls outside

It's a charming little cafe. The staff were friendly. They do a good range of food and drink. We just wanted a drink and to get out of the rain. It's dog friendly due to the flagstone floor.

Went last week very nice and worth it especially if you are going on a bike ride

Pea and ham soup was lovely, we come back the next morning for full English breakfast, it was awful, staff very nice and dog friendly, just wouldn’t recommend the breakfast

Temperature on the canal has been below freezing for days. The CRT tap outside the cafe is frozen. Shocked by this cafe’s attitude to filling my water bottles despite us having been their customers several times since we arrived here. Shame. 🙁
