We've now had a few meals here, and they were all excellent. Real good value food, well cooked and hot. Lovely country pub, with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Dog friendly, and lovely seating areas to the front and rear. Hidden little gem.

We’ve been going to the Malt for years but this is my first review of it. Good atmosphere, decent decor and a real, open fire at both ends of the pub (a major plus from me!)Friendly and efficient staff, although a critique would be that although I imagine their black T-shirt’s are practical, they maybe cheapen the overall look and I think a proper shirt looks more professional.Food was good (I had the steak pie and the husbandy had fish and chips). The pie was particularly good although the chips weren’t the absolute best (maybe I’m being picky). Another small plus was that I asked for veg instead of peas and was offered carrots which was good. Peas are, after all, the Devil’s food (especially of the mushy variety) Overall, a great time in a lovely country style pub in the centre of Baildon village :)

I went to this pub with my wife for Sunday lunch as we had been told that it had recently been taken over by another pub chain. The food was of excellent quality for the price and had been cooked fresh - this meant we had to wait a little time but the wait was worth it. The place filled up quickly with a variety of customers, some eating and some not but the atmosphere remained very pleasant. The staff were efficient, friendly and attentive. We shall certainly be returning in future.

We visited this pub several times over the bank holiday weekend when the Harley rally was on. Despite the queue backing up to the door the staff were great and you got served quickly. We even got back in the queue to order food and thought we would be waiting for ages looking at how busy the pub was both inside and outside. I think we only waited 10/15 minutes and I was surprized when the food arrived so quickly. I had a steak and my partner had a burger. Considering the price we paid and drinks thrown in for under £20 it was very good. The locals were all mucking in clearing glasses for the bar staff. I don’t think the staff stopped working from the minute they opened up to when closied the doors. It was a great place with a great atmosphere.

Lovely cosy boozer, feels like a proper pub. The food is good value, above average portions, and my burger was spot on... Throw in a pint of Carlsberg, and I still had change out of a tenner. Nice chilled vibe, and good service. Ideal for a first date? Not if your hoping for a second one, but if it's a catch up with mates your after, you won't be disappointed

Needed a quick drink and bite to eat before a family meeting in Baildon. The pub is on the main road. No obvious car park but pay and display park near by. Nice pub inside, the bar maid was pleasant and helpful. All 4 of us ordered cheese and Branston pickle sandwiches. We seemed to be the only customers eating at the time. After 20 minutes we were told there was a delay as the bread had to defrost. They weren't allowed to keep bread out in hot weather. 10 minutes later sandwiches arrived. Salad and bread ok but filling consisted lot of pickle and a cardboard like thin slice of cheese. Cheap but not cheerful. Good variety of places to eat in Baildon, we certainly wouldn't risk the Malt Shovel again.

What a pleasant surprise ... We were greeted with a fresh new menu and enjoy a taster tapas style sampler care of Chief Paul. Pub grub is the best way...with just what I fancied with a pint of my favourite tipple. The belly pork was melt in the mouth and very tasty. Good potions with fresh crisp veg. My friends raved about the steak & ale pie. So rich & succulent. The atmosphere has been greatly improved of late with subtle addition that give a more cosy feel...and it's always a bonus when dogs are welcome.

the place has gone down, The staff look like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders and no customer service skills. the food was average. Nothing to scream about and presentation was not a thought whilst plating it up. No check backs at all. Smell of toilets and a drab atmosphere. My beer was awful and flat. lines not cleaned you can tell. if they were you need to look at what your doing. No one has any pride at all in this place anymore. Whats happened. As a company you put ammatures into a local village pub. Its not their fault but your research is not being done. This place had life, it had regulars, it was a happy place to go. Its liek the black hole of calcutta with all the shipley scrotes rolled into it!!! Pull your finger out. Make this part of the village again. It wont take much just love the place and it will love you!!!

We stopped for lunch on the Bank Holiday Monday. We were told that they were busy and food would be up to 25 minutes, this was no problem, the only thing is that it was nearer 55 minutes than 25.Our food arrived, mine, a really good home made Steak and Ale pie, my wife ordered a Mushroom Risotto, which was disappointing to say the least. It was not as described in fact it was Risotto Rice (which she said was good, albeit not as described), with Part cooked Mushrooms on top.

We stumbled across this pub after a long walk and were in need of refreshments. It was the nicest looking pub in the village with the best outside seating area and was open (other pubs in the area opened an hour later) so we stopped for a rest. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a few lovely drinks. We weren't intending on having food but we got comfortable and then hungry and decided to sample the food and were very pleased. The fish and chips were great. The salad was very different in a good way. If I was to be critical there was slightly too much dressing but that may just be my taste. A very delightful rest.

Thought we would return to this pub for an early evening meal to save cooking. They were advertising new menu for January . Could not see what the difference was though. The atmosphere is a typical pub with pleasant seating , open fire. Ordered ham and eggs with chips. Meal was ok but a bit disappointing - could have tried better with presentation . Service ok and had a few Guinness whilst there ! If you like a drink with basic food ,then you will enjoy.no need to book . Remember there was a couple in with a lovely husky dog.

Weather poor so decided to try the new menu at this long established pub in baildon. Nice welcome - refreshing Guinness ! Ordered a meal from the menu but subsequently advised many of the entries were not available , which was disappointing. Whilst our alternative choice was ok , plate wuss cold . Choice of sweets were ok although again some not available. In conclusion a good start but before we become regulars for a meal , some hard work needs to be done to bring up to standard.

There are a few pubs in baildon all offering a different experience. This is a nice pub with friendly staff. The landlord and landlady make us feel welcome. We have never experienced any issues with the drinks so I am not sure where the other reviews come from. The food is good value. Whilst we do go in the other pubs this one is our local of choice. Don't be put off by the other reviews... give this place a go and form your own opinion.

It's such a shame what has happened to this little pub. All the regulars lost some that drank in there over 40 years. The pub has the potential to be that country pub it was. But it's not being ran. The managers aren't around and don't want to be part of the community. Dogs sat on seats what's going on!!!! 1 staff member on playing on the phone! No atmosphere anymore. It's such a shame. This lady has tried to make a name being tough and it doesn't work in baildon. I'm sure that if you researched the area and what it's about your selection process would of been different. This lady isn't all bad but in the wrong pub and you as a company are losing our faith in what you stand for and losing 1 of the oldest pubs in baildon

I used to enjoy popping into the Malt Shovel for the occasional pint. The pub was always a bit tatty but served good beer and had a friendly atmosphere. I called in last night - oh dear. Poor quality fizzy lager with poor quality staff who chatted to each other rather than listen to what the customer was ordering. I asked for my order 3 times and it was still wrong and the staff thought I was the problem. Saturday night karaoke??? Baildon is better than this...If you want an enjoyable night out try anywhere else, this is god awful.

After being in the pub for about an hour and a half and not once had we seen the landlady!. My fiancee said she didnt feel well. Went outside and was sick, then collapsed. Whilst laying on the floor in recovery position waiting for the ambulance the landlady came out and started having a go! Saying that we had been in there all afternoon and knocking them back! When the paramedic checked over my fiancee he suspected some form of poisoning. Either drink had been spiked or dodgy alchohol! He wanted to move my fiancee inside. The landlady heard this so desided to go and lock the door and wouldnt let us in. When one of the barmaids went round the back and opened the door she was sacked On the spot! Obviously the landlady was hiding something! She then started unessesary arguements with everyone. This is the worst behaviour from a landlady I have ever seen and so much for a duty of care for her customers. the paramedic agreed! Luckily my fiancee turned out fine. Wont be going there again whilst she is running the pub!
