My husband and I visited on a Saturday in November before a show. We arrived a little early and expected to have to wait, but no, we were promptly greeted and seated. We were also informed that the table was ours until the show started, which was a welcome addition we didn't know about previously. The whole team was wonderful, friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The food was not only outstandingly presented but it tasted divine. Every mouthful was a delight. The price was phenomenal. We had 1 alcoholic drink and 1 soft drink, starters, mains, and 2 coffees all for £60! I have been coming to this theatre for many years. However, this was my first visit to 1914, and it will hopefully not be my last. I look forward to returning soon.

We were served by a young man named Kieron who was an absolute delight, if only every waiter had the charm and enthusiasm that he possesses- the world would be a better place. Seriously, he’s a gem and made our dining experience memorable.

Our first visit to the restaurant before seeing a show at the theatre. A faultless experience . The Maitre’d was the most charming man whose customer service was exemplary. The young staff were polite, professional ,lovely. The food excellent and good value for money. Our 9 year old grandsons childrens menu was excellent and very good value for money. A lovely experience , we would highly recommend.

1st time at 1914, enjoyed a pre show meal - 2 course for £20. Warmly greated by Kieren who showed us to a table with lovely views towards the fountains & Town Hall. Attentive happy staff looking after us. Wife and I ordered Duck Gyoza, enjoyed but found the pickling on Julienne Veg very sharp. Mains of Pan fried Seabass & Pork Loin with apple & sage mash very enjoyable. Memphis was delightful in looking after us at the table. Paid by card BUT left a cash tip for staff as it goes to the Council otherwise. A good start to the evening, will dine here again.

Six of us dined before the show (which was also excellent) and had a very good experience in the restaurant. The service was efficient and punctual. The standard of the food was excellent. We were even looked after very well with our interval drinks. The views high over the city just added to the experience. I would have no doubt in recommending a pre show dinner.

Exceeded our expectations. Wonderful food, excellent service from all staff, very welcoming and professional. Fantastic views over Centenary Square - fountains and City Hall all lit up. Service and food was done in a good timely fashion so you had the right amount of time to get to your seats/'freshen-up' before the show started. Well looked after. Will definitely return.

I was part of a party of 10 friends who booked for a meal before our visit to the theatre. Hadn’t been to this restaurant for years and WOW, they did us proud! The service was excellent, friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and well presented, there was a great ambiance and to put the cherry on the cake, they were soooo helpful and accommodating about catering for one of our friend’s tricky allergies (nothing was too much trouble), something that many eateries do badly. Throughly recommended a pre theatre trip to this restaurant.

This restaurant is OK. The food isn't terrible but it's not amazing. You have to remember that it isn't open all the time only when there are showings on, so maybe that's the reason. It's a nice base to have some food and drinks before a showing and the staff are attentive. So long as you go there knowing that the food is mediocre you won't be disappointed. They have a nice selection and the portions are on the larger side especially for the price. I want to be more positive about it but the starters definitely let the meal down, the mains were better and the desserts were on par with the mains.

Tickets for Matilda were the chosen gift for our young granddaughters, it was a midweek evening performance so rather than rush around I booked a table for the 4 of us and asked for window view. We arrived just before 5pm and I apologised for being early but the manager said 'no problem let me take you to your table'. The cast of Matilda were tucking into their healthy meal and fruit and we were all a bit star struck to see them. We were given a table overlooking the Park it was amazing, the silhouette of Matilda could be seen below covering the concourse to the Theatre. Our girls loved the 3 courses of Mini Yorkshire Puddings, Pasta for main and dunking doughnut's to finish off, with a fruit drink included £4.95 (Beats happy meals). The girls felt really special like they had been to some 5* Michelin restaurant....the service, the food and the way we were made to feel was 10/10. So great was our experience we got tickets for Lion King this year and we are booked into the Restaurant for a preperformance treat. Not sure what the girls were more excited about the show or the restaurant.Cheers and see you March 3rd Michelle, Viv, Kayla and Jacey

Booked here for a pre show meal car parks (NCP) offer a great discount on parking saving £8.40 on a long stay ask at theatre reception. We booked, advisable for evening performances we were met by very pleasant staff who showed us to our table let us get settled ask us for drink orders we were given menus and left to choose. We all picked starters sea food pancake ,pate and a selection of falafel. All very nice we had a bottle of Rose crisp and light. I had the pate and melba toast with a light chilli chutney very good . Main course I had meat loaf served with roasted sprouts and bacon the former I haven't eaten since school and nothing will change my mind on them. The meat loaf was wonderful very tasty and enough of it to make it filling. Others had Brisket with bbq sauce chips and onion rings apparently very good. One guest had sea food crumble the fish cooked in a white sauce. Unfortunately this was dry the sauce only about a centimetre deep dried out crumble ruining this course. The chap asked if it was ok he could see it was only partially eaten, however he knocked the price of this off the bill. We had deserts pana cota with cherry comport excellent , Apple pie and ice cream very good and tiramisu torte very nice they said. Total bill £109 bargain then the waiter said we could order drinks for the interval bingo these were waiting for us with a number at the table. In conclusion a really good meal pity about the crumble but I am sure this can be rectified easily. Look forward to next visit.

I booked a table for my partner before les miserables. After hearing very good things about it we were both looking forward to it. I had mushroom soup for starters which was okay and moussaka for main which was also just okay. My partner had oxtail for her starter which was very fatty but also tasted just okay and the minute steak for main. This was the main disappointment the steak was pretty tasteless ,the mushrooms cold and as for the three times cooked chips they needed cooking for a fourth! They were soft and greasy on the outside hard and raw in the middle. The staff were very apologetic and did offer free sweets which we declined as had lost our faith in the place. We also waited an age between starter and main with other tables getting there starter, main and sweet in the same time. On the plus side the staff were very friendly. We will not be visiting again and feel like we could have had a better meal(and cheaper) at any of the city's Wetherspoons or cafes. For a menu which is on for three months you would have hoped it would be well practised and perfect.

We were shown straight to our table on arrival, right next to the windows overlooking Millennium square and the whole of the city was laid out before us. The meals were delicious, the staff courteous and efficient. Tap water was on the table, and nothing was too much trouble. There were no delays in service, so we did not have to rush to get to out theatre seats in time. No set course menu, only a la carte, which made it more expensive than some but it was worth it.

Visited Restaurant 1914 last night because we had tickets to see Dirty Dancing and as it’s February, didn’t fancy trekking around Bradford in the freezing cold looking for somewhere to eat! We booked for half 5 and the show started at half 7. Starters were teriyaki chicken skewer and tempura king prawns, both of which were lovely. Mains were oven roasted salmon on Asian noodles and chicken and broccoli lasagne with garlic bread and a tomato and onion salad, again both were lovely. Generous portions at a reasonable price. We shared the trio of ice creams to finish with and chose salted caramel and mint choc chip. What really makes this place is the staff. Many are really young but very well trained in customer service and really polite. You can tell a lot goes into training staff. Our waitress was lovely! We never felt rushed, she gave us time after mains to decide whether we wanted a pudding and had the perfect mix of helpful but not overbearing. If you’re going to see a show at the Alhambra, I’d thoroughly recommend it! The only thing I’d say is I think 2 choices of rosé (one being a Zinfandel which I don’t think I’ve drank since I was a teenager!) is limited. I never understand why restaurants often still don’t offer a dry rosé (like a Pinot) when this is such a popular choice in this day and age.

Last night’s was excellent, and the starter all four of us had the soup of the day (mushroom crepe) was exceptional. Our main courses ( beef bourguignon, goats cheese risotto and the fish of the day, Sea bass ) were all really good, and worthy of any 5 star restaurant. I don’t think there are any good places to eat in Bradford city centre, unless you want a curry ( which it is renowned) with the exception of the 1914 which I can’t recommend enough do try it, but book to ensure a table. One final thing the staff are friendly and the service is excellent.

We were here a couple of weeks ago for Matthew Bourne's production of Swan Lake. Although the theatre itself and the auditorium are perfectly fine, the restaurant was closed so we were reduced to eating a couple of M&S; style sandwiches from a chill cabinet and a couple of bags of crisps. (A culinary experience I thought I'd long ago outgrown). To compensate I had a bottle of indifferent red from nowhere in particular at a cost of £22 (yours for a fiver at Sainsbury's). It is rather depressing, don't you think. that theatres in this country -- even provincial playhouses like the Alhambra which is sited in a semi-derelict part of Bradford -- feel that once the theatregoer, or punter, as I'm sure they regard us as, is inside the doors they can charge us top price for indifferent rubbish. If you ever find yourself in Bradford attending a performance at the Alhambra you ought to take my advice and reserve a table at Mama Mia, just up the road. You won't regret it (and no, Mama Mia doesn't know I've said this).

The menu had changed on 1st December and there was no set menu anymore (over the Christmas period there seemed to be a very good deal on). But it was a special occasion so we decided to go all out. Lovely menu with something for everyone. We all had starter, main and desert and every course was just lovely. The waitress helped out when I asked for advice on what she would recommend and we queried some of the ingredients. Would defo recommend. Was £93 for 3 of us for a very good meal including an alcoholic drink each which I thought was good for what we had. Mains included lamb shank, sea bass and teriyaki chicken and noodles with veg on the side. Lovely!

My two daughters and I dined here on December 28th, pre panto . It was the fixed Christmas menu, so I opted for a Yorkshire pudding with gravy, it dish arrived quickly and the best description would be , a, singular Aunt Bessie small yorkshire floating in brown coloured water. I was expecting a homemade Yorkshire pudding soaked with beautiful deep beef flavoured gravy but no it was dreadful and disappointing. Next two of us ordered the Christmas Dinner, on arrival thick slices of Turkey Roll and a slice of stuffing which were both pushed to one side and we did eat the few vegetables we received . The third meal was Fish and Chips that I am pleased to report were nice, but not enough chips as there were only 8 chips. Only one pudding was ordered, chocolate pud that must have been nice as it quickly disappeared. The restaurant was not busy but we didn't see any staff to report any of our concerns until the bill was brought to our table. It really felt like our food had not been prepared freshly just microwaved. Any Chef happy to serve what two of us received that evening ought to take a career break. Sadly this tainted our visit to the Alhambra 1914. The staff in the theatre building were lovely and we enjoyed our visit.

I went there with my wife prior to attending the Pantomime . We were a little earlier than our booking time but the manager was very attentive and found us a table by the windows with a great view of the city centre. The waitresses were also very attentive and helpful. The food was very good and the prices very reasonable.

Running very late due to traffic we rang ahead in some distress. The restaurant manager couldn't have been more reassuring that there would be time to eat before the start of the show. On arrival his calm welcome and advice on which dish on the menu would take too long to cook was most welcome. Throughout our meal he gave the impression he wanted us to relax and enjoy our dinner...which we did. Five star service from him and his lovely staff. And our meal was delicious too!

My wife and I booked an early evening table for a pre-show meal and we absolutely loved it. We pushed the boat out and had three courses with wine so the bill was a little hefty but I didn't mind that due to the great food and service. I started with the chicken and chorizo skewers with cous cous - very tasty, my wife had the battered brie. Mains were the salmon en croute for her and the smoked brisket on bacon mash for me. Both were superb. Service was professional but friendly and with just the right level of contact - never in your face and we weren't rushed at all. The courses came without too long a wait and on hot plates. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and can highly recommend it.

Went for a meal last night before the show. It was our Ruby wedding anniversary so thought we would push the boat out a bit. After a small but tasty starter of beetroot and goats cheese we ordered the venison pie which at £20.00 was the most expensive main on the menu. Oh dear this was absolutely awful. Huge portions of what looked like a shepherds pie with a sweet potato topping, not browned under the grill, and venison and veg stewed to an inch of its life, The venison tasted like liver and the gravy had no taste at all. Only the parsnip crisps were anything to write home about, My husband will eat anything but even he couldn't eat it. We sent it back and to be fair the waiting staff were extremely apologetic. The chicken we ordered instead was a disappointment. Dry tough chicken with a sauce like a thin watery puddle on the plate with no depth of flavour or richness in what was supposed to be a creamy mushroom sauce. Still hungry I ordered the chocolate tart. £5.50 for a tart that looked as if it had come from a bakers shelf. Thick soggy inedible pastry with a tough chocolate filling in what looked like a jam tart. I'm so sorry for the dining room staff who were so polite and attentive and the restaurant which has lovely ambience and views across Centenary Square. All the ingredients for a lovely evening. Unfortunately the food has got to be the hero and even the excellent service would not tempt us back again to sample this awful fare.

Ate here pre-show with my Mum. The restaurant is very plushly decorated and the views over the City Park are excellent. The menu is varied with a couple of choices for vegetarians in each course. Both started with Brie deep fried in a paper thin crisp tempura and served with chutney - very well presented, though almost knocked a star off for the 'two Brie or not two Brie' quip! Again both had the sage and butter-nut squash risotto for the main and the rice was cooked to perfection (on that cusp of creamy and al dente). Service is impeccable and stereotypically 'Yorkshire' - friendly, welcoming, efficient, informal and unpretentious. They forgot to bring us the side salad for the risotto - we hadn't realised it came with one (and frankly it didn't need it) until the manager apologised for having not done so and offered to get them sent out straight away. We declined but were impressed that they pointed out an error we would never have spotted without anyone having complained. The food doesn't meet the culinary heights of theatre restaurants at The Lowry or Birmingham's Hippodrome, but equally it can't be faulted as good honest well cooked and presented food. Where it really wins out as a theatre restaurant is in it's efficiency. It's nice being able to relax knowing you'll have plenty of time to eat and settle up without a mad last minute rush to your seat. That's because the restaurant manager is actually out front of house and working hard to make sure it all runs smoothly. Highly recommended.

We booked this restaurant prior to going to see The Buddy Holly Story with friends from California to celebrate a special birthday and we weren't disappointed .Our request for a window table was honoured and we had great views of the city on a glorious summers evening. The service was excellent and the four of us all thoroughly enjoyed our four different main courses. The timing was all perfect for the start of what was an excellent show so all in all a very positive experience.

By arranging to eat here before a show there is no need for a last minute rush to be on time. Relax and enjoy the views over the centre of Bradford whilst having some food and drink.Decent selection of starters especially the salmon which was a very generous portion. Confit duck leg good but veal was tough and lacked enough sage that was part of the dish. Service attentive.

We came here for time to kill before the Addams Family. And it was an accidental treat. The setting is lovely. The staff are professional, friendly and know their menus. They are able to comment on each dish. They give in depth information on the catch of the day, and basically look after you in a fashion of days gone by.Seriously, this level of attention in a restaurant is only found these days in expensive places most of us cannot afford. The food is great. Worth the price.I found dining here before seeing the performance was a fantastic experience and really made my day.A wonderful place to eat which compliments a theatre visit perfectly.

We have eaten at the 1914 Restaurant Many times before watching shows at the Alhambra Theatre and have always had some lovely food. However, I called the Alhambra on Saturday afternoon on the off chance that they may have a table for that evening and was quite shocked to find they had several tables available. After eating the food prepared I now realise why they were not booked up.My Daughter is a Vegetarian so the choice was very limited and even more so as she is not a fan of Cheese Dishes. Both Vegetarian options in the Main Courses were cheese dishes so a Main Course was not available. Instead she opted for two portions of the Starter on offer Eggplant and Ricotta Pasta Pot. When it arrived, she cut into it took a taste and was shocked to find it was cold, in fact semi frozen! When the waitress did the usual ' is everything ok?' We told her that the dish was not very nice. She apologised and went on to do her duties. A few minutes later the restaurant manageress asked the same question and when we told her it was bad she simply shrugged her shoulders! Fortunately, we ordered a portion of Chips so she did manage to eat something but left everything else.Prior to ordering my meal which was 'Catch of the day' I asked the waitress what it was and she advised it was Smoked Haddock with associated accompaniments I then expected a nice piece of fish. What arrived was A Fish Pie which appeared to have been made well in advance and heated in the Microwave. Hardly. 'Catch of the day’!The fish pie was so hot that I has to wait several minutes before I could start to eat it. When I did I was Very Disappointed. The Fish Pie from the local supermarket tastes so much nicer. The pie was tasteless and the accompanying vegetables tasted like they had been in the pan for several hours. All in all, one of the worse meals we have ever had!Such a shame because all the previous meals had been good!

You'd only go here if going to the theatre, for which it's convenient. That probably the best thing about it, everything else is just ok. Setting is quirky with good views over Bradford. Food is pleasant enough but nothing special. Service was average, asked three times if we'd finished, same happened to other diners when there was no need. Also, and this might be picky, but the waiters trousers were ridiculously creased, just shoddy.

We were booked in for a show so thought it would be worth a try for a pre-show meal. So glad we did , the meal was superb and ambience is really beautiful. We had a seat by the window with a terrific view across the new City Park.We had plenty of time after the meal but we weren`t rushed ,so we lingered over our wine until show time.Staff were very polite and approachable. Can really recommend not just for a show visit. we parked behind the Ice Rink which after 18.00 was only £1 until mid-night...brilliant
