Visited briefly but impressed with what I saw. Good selection of local ales which were all looked after properly. Spacious garden at rear and definitely a pub worth visiting when in the area. Note: check opening times to avoid disappointment.

Nice family meal. Good selection for the whole family with a specials board and children’s menu. I enjoyed the burger which was delicious and there was a good selection of local beers to choose from too. The staff were also helpful in ensuring my wife’s dish was dairy free which was appreciated.

Clean and friendly local pub with an excellent local IPA on tap. We had the macaroni cheese from the specials board and it came with crisp chips and a very fresh and crunchy salad. Very pleased we went in, and somehow doubt some of the less praiseworthy reviews were fair?

We had a Thursday night dinner here with our 7 year old daughter whilst staying 8 mins walk away in a cottage. Really welcoming staff, relaxed, friendly atmosphere and lovely food. My daughter really enjoyed her tomato and cheese pasta with garlic bread, and I absolutely loved my Dorset apple cake with custard, made by the lovely Pat! It made my week! The young waiter was really good at his job too, polite and attentive. So nice to have a relaxed atmosphere with dogs allowed in, to borrow for a stroke! I was so happy, I wish our holiday was longer as would love to work my way through the dessert menu! Have a great summer Stacey and Pat and thanks for a lovely evening!

My partner and I visited a couple of times whilst camping nearby at Hobby Farm. The barmaid was especially welcoming =) asked about gluten free food and they were very in the know about cross contamination, the chef even came out to reassure me! Decent pub food, generous portions and all staff very helpful and polite. The younger lad was lovely.

Great little pub in a beautiful village. Frequented by lots of local and farmers and it interesting to ear wig if you sit in the garden. Great beer and cider. Food good pub grub, not fancy and well cooked. Long may small pubs like this keep going.

My partner and I visited the 5 Bells Inn when on our mini break. I am unfortunately having to echo what others have experienced as regards to the food. I had the chicken strips and my partner had the chicken stack. Everything was greasy! The chips served were cheap frozen quality, tiny salad and a half full small pot of coleslaw each. For the price of the meal it seems rather mean! One of the owners served us initially with disappointing customer service and an attitude, other staff members were much more friendly. Shame as a lovely looking pub and beer garden. Drinks were nice though!

Real Ale choice ( Palmers ) was limited so after waiting 5 minutes for the landlady to appear ( no apologies ) I ordered a pint of San Miguel. I was charged £5 ! The same drink is £3.80 in my local. We were a party of 11 visiting the area as part of my mums 60th birthday. One of the evenings we booked into the local pub for a meal, and what a pleasant lovely experience that was. What I loved:- When I made initial contact to make the reservation, I asked if they catered for Coeliac’s as my son is one, they not only reassured me, but made special effort to see him have plenty of choice.- They delivered us a menu to our holiday cottage so we could pick in advance.- When we arrived the mother and daughter running the pub were just fantastic!- Incredibly friendly and attentive, you simply couldn’t ask for better more welcoming service.- All the food was served hot, and tasted great. It is the type of pub everyone wants as their local, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

We were staying in a cottage 5 mins walk away and were really pleased to have a pub within walking distance, WRONG! We went in at 9pm Saturday night to have a drink and book for Sunday lunch, it seems to be run by teenagers for teenagers! There were half a dozen in there playing loud music and just stared at us as we walked in as if we were disturbing them, they didn’t offer to serve us and we walked out; the place should have been full?! We found out afterwards tha the locals don’t go near it, what a shame!

Came here for drinks a few times and a meal one evening, as we were staying in a cottage down the road. It has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and there are usually a few locals at the bar, as well as holiday makers like ourselves. The food is good pub grub, nothing too fancy but tasty nevertheless and service is with a smile. It's a dog friendly place, so if you don't want your pooch to miss out on all the fun, you can bring them along. It was originally built in the late 1700's but got burnt down in 1904 on bonfire night and rebuilt in 1905, the only original part left, is the stone doorstep on your way into the pub. Lovely little gem of a place.

We arrived at the pub after a 3 mile hike across the Dorset countryside - hot and hungry! To our dismay, we arrived just as the kitchen was closing - but the lovely landlady kept the kitchen open for us - how nice!. The food was typical local pub grub - honest and simple. The pub itself is again, a typical village pub - no frills (some may say dated? but I grew up in a rural village with a pub just like this), but a warm atmosphere. The locals were lovely -we were made to feel welcome. We sat outside as we had a muddy small dog put the pub is dog friendly. The garden is small ish but tidy, with mown grass and flowers. We sat on the benches - it was really pleasant in the spring sun. We all had baguettes and chips - the chef gave us a choice of roast or putting the roasted meat in baguettes. They even gave our dog a small doggy dinner :) Nothing was too much of a problem.

This is a proper, unspoilt village local, with a genuinely warm greeting. Unfussy but tasty home cooked food, and a choice of 3 Palmers ales. It's a bit off the beaten track, but worth seeking out if you are in the Charmouth area. Local pubs like this are an endangered species and really deserve your patronage. Dogs and kids most welcome! We stayed nearby and walked up the lane to the pub hoping for an evening meal, but it was all closed up and the garden was overgrown. Possibly it’s fallen victim to the lockdown? (The last review was February 2020.) It didn’t seem as if anyone was at home. A great shame for such an ancient establishment if it has gone to the wall. 😢
