Another fantastic roast dinner in this great pub. Staff all so attentive, and the roasts are delicious with plenty of choices for deserts. Not that I could fit one in as the portions are so generous. Great value for money in a warm friendly atmosphere.

A very pleasant country pub and excellent value . On my travels again I was looking for somewhere to rest my weary head and looking at Booking.com found this place at an excellent rate of £47.23 with my Booking.com discount. Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed by a chap who turned out to be one of new owners family My room in a flat was directly above the bar After a freshen up I was warmly welcomed to the bar and enjoyed a couple of Rum and Cokes and freshly cooked and served burger and chips with salad and cal slaw which was first rate Around 10pm I retired to my room via a vibrate Darts room and the bar , darts room and lounge bar all served by a central bar looked busy an vibrant My room (flat) was on the basic side but given the cost was more than acceptable. Immediately noticed the noise from the bar but fell into a deep sleep However I was awoken at approximately 4am by the party still going as i presumed was a lock in ? By 5am I the last reveler had beet a early retreat and I feel asleep until 7am and showered and like the dawn at daylight departed I will definitely return as other than the unexpected revelry was and wonderful stay ! Having read the reviews I look forward to a steak and kidney pudding

The pub has been through a rocky couple of years since David and Agatha left, but full credit to the new team for bringing it back to greatness. The pub is beautifully decorated. The food is fabulous, portions are generous and the service is excellent. Christmas menu is lovely and very good value for money. We were a party of 14 and all the food came out at the same time. Well done Mary and team. If you haven’t visited lately I suggest you do.

Very cold room no heating not told on telephone only bar food at lunchtimes drinks served with tonic poured in the gin and spilt half of it should not pour mixers in drinks so asked for another as a lot spilt and was then charged for two!!! Burgers came after quite a long time which were pretty awful the fish was nice so all in all we will not be going back such a shame as a lovely little pub which incidentally has been stripped of nearly all its furniture??

The service ok, nice welcome. Nice wine and decent beer. Not much seating, only in the bar area & dining room. Nice open fire with sofas. A lot of empty space inside, a whole empty room leads on to the dining area. Not a huge menu, usual pub grub, so what could go wrong! Run out of a couple of main courses and desserts which were our choices so not a great start. The main courses of burgers are really small, tasty, yes but didn't even fill the bun! Came with salad and chips also very small. Fish and Chips not the best, although was served on a warm plate, mushy peas were mashed up garden peas, and the fish very thin, my guess is probably bought in or just not done very well. The pub virtually empty by 9 pm. Could be a gem of a pub.

Popped in for lunch with a friend, having not been there for ? many years. The pub is charming and well kept and we received a very warm welcome. Nice menu with a good range of options. We opted for the two courses @ 10.95, and both had the fish (haddock today) & chips. Beautifully cooked, well presented and tasty. Would definitely like to return to try out the tapas menu which looks good and reasonably priced. We seem to be finding it increasingly difficult to find decent country pubs, not too far out, that serve good food. Would highly recommend this one

We had a great night out with the family last week at the Five Bells, as always a pleasure to dine there. This time we decided to try the Spanish Night. A brilliant selection of tapas! As there were 6 of us we all ordered something different and shared the dishes, as is the custom in Spain. So we went for the brocheta marisco, calamares, boquerones, (all seafood) and jamon iberico, chorizo sausage in cider, pincho moruno (all meat dishes) together with patatas bravas and pa amb tomaquet. We've spent a bit of time in Spain over the years and appreciate their traditional cuisine; it was deliciousl Staff were friendly and service was prompt even though the restaurant was fully booked up.

We visit this pub regularly and are always impressed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. Last week we booked a Burns Night supper for 22 people and the chef produced a fantastic spread. Starters were a bacon and potato cake served with smoked salmon, creme fraiche and hollandaise; portobello mushroom with ricotta, pesto and roasted veg or chorizo scotch egg & mango chutney. We had options for the non haggis eaters (me included), the haggis was declared the best ever by several of our party, vegetables were perfectly cooked - often a disappointment when serving a large party and the chicken skewers and patatas bravas were delicious. Dessert was a fabulous cranachan full of raspberries, oats, honey and cream. I can't praise the team at this lovely village pub enough. Nothing is too much trouble for them and the chef has a real way with flavours and presentation.

I was assured of the quality of the cuisine at this dining pub but my meal was unacceptably bad. I cannot speak for colleagues. Perhaps I was unlucky. We are only a short drive to this pub, so it was a pleasant surprise to find an inexpensive place to eat that offers very good home-cooked food. We chose to go fusion, we started with olives, a big bowl of vey flavoursome fruits. We then had with chorizo scotch egg off the main menu, followed by the seafood paella. The scotch eggs were faultless, crisp outside, succulent tasty meat and a perfect runny yolk in the middle. The paella was fine with the seafood cooked just right, but felt the rice could have done with a few more minutes cooking!, but hey, I’m not Spanish, the proprietors are, so what do I know, just my personal taste. My husband had a baked cheesecake which he said was lovely. I had the almond cake, it was wonderfully moist and not too sweet, a must have again pudding for me. The wine was good, the service was good, parking on- site. I am surprised it wasn’t busier, perhaps needs advertising. We will return in th3 evening, but will also try the Sunday roast

What a fantastic, warm and friendly pub with a Spanish twist. If you want authentic Tapas dishes close to Bedford then look no further. We visited for my Daughters 22nd birthday lunch. Only 20 Tapas available on a Sunday lunch (only 20! that is plenty for anyone especially if they are this good). We nearly did not have pudding which would have been a big mistake. Our usual pub could not take us and I am very happy because I found the Five Bells at Cople. This typical English pub has Spanish owners and the menu reflects this. I went to the restaurant for dinner with some friends and we were pleased when we found the restaurant was not busy. However, sadly despite it not being busy we found service to be very poor. Although a drinks order was taken quickly and our food order was taken shortly afterwards, we waited ages for the waitress to then inform us that one of the tapas plates we successfully ordered with her as a starter (croquettes) was not available and as a replacement we were offered some croquettes that were left over from a Spanish night ten days before. When I asked about that, she said that they were frozen. We ordered a different starter tapas and carried on, and when the food finally arrived we were pleased with it. Despite it not being busy, we felt largely ignored and were not asked for instance for new drinks once we had finished our first round. By that point we just ordered a jug of tap water as we were close to finishing and paid up and left feeling underwhelmed.

It's hard to find a decent Spanish restaurant, but this one fits the bill perfectly - and it's a pub. The food is totally authentic - we had a mix of tapas to start then a really good freshly cooked Paella Mixta with generous amounts and a good variety of seafood along with the chicken and pork. The beer is very well kept - a great pint of Young's bitter and a most appealing wine list with a good selection of Spanish whites and reds, all reasonably priced. The young restaurant staff were a little inexperienced it seemed - no real coordination there, jug of water just plonked on the table, no effort made to pour and taking the order was a bit of a let down as my attempt to pronounce the Spanish dished was met with a 'what number is that?' - it would be a better experience if the staff knew the menu and took the order accordingly, even if they then use the numbers - it's not a Chinese takeaway after all!The lack of front of house presence was more than made up for, however, when proprietor Agatha came out towards the end of the meal so all is not lost - maybe a little staff training would be all I ask for to improve the experience, and I'll definitely be back as the food was so good.PS For those who don't want Spanish, there is also a large selection of traditional English dishes.

Booked at table for five for an evening meal, on arrival the restaurant seemed a bit chaotic. Ordered food, the first two meals arrived but we had to wait for the other three meals at lest ten minutes and when they did arrive they were cold and had to be sent back to the kitchen, by the time they arrived back the first two had finished so we had to sit there watching the other three eating. Very poor service, very chaotic, very noisy. Also the young lad serving the meals kept bringing the wrong meals and drinks to our table, also could not remember who had ordered what. When the bill arrived not even a deduction for the cold meals or the very poor service. When we left the pub not one member of staff in the restaurant said goodbye, we were totally ignored. I have been several times to the Five Bells for lunch and once for dinner. I am a vegan and it is often difficult to find suitable fare for the likes of me. At the Five Bells they have made an effort in creating a vegetarian burger which is delicious. I can easily convert it into a vegan one just by removing the mayonnaise. It would be perfect if they made an actual burger out of beans of which there are plenty of recipes. All in all it is a lovely place with good service and everybody I have been with have loved the food and atmosphere. Well done!

My usual eatery in the area was not available so I let the TA app find somewhere nearby - hence my visit to the Five Bells. Quiet and unassuming on the outside, it is a delight on the inside. A real traditional pub with traditional pub food plus a few Spanish surprises added in. The service was very good, friendly and attentive. The menus are flexible and were able to be adapted to meet our needs. The result was a delicious and enjoyable lunch in cosy and friendly surroundings. I'm very pleased to have found the Five Bells and will most certainly visit again.

Despite living in the neighbouring village we hadn't properly tried out the new Spanish flavoured Five Bells until recently. The main menu had a wide range of attractive sounding Spanish options as well as the usual pub staples of fish and chips, burgers etc. In the end we opted instead for the set lunch which at £8 for two really good courses was great value. The cod was fresh and nicely presented with mash and spinach. Both the crème brulee and chocolate brownie were spot on. There was a good choice of gluten free options all clearly marked. Washed down with a decent pint and good coffee to finish we couldn't complain. Service was friendly though a little haphazard which left me a bit unsure about how well they would cope when full. But overall it was a pleasant surprise and we'll certainly be back.

Visiting family in the Bedford area last Friday evening, we decided to give the Five Bells a try as we’d heard good reports since it was taken over by a young couple with Spanish connections. It’s a lovely village pub with a cosy atmosphere which apparently gets quite busy at the weekends. After a warm welcome and a drink in the bar while we waited for a free table, we were shown into one of the two small dining areas. The menu was varied with traditional English favourites but also well-known Spanish dishes, like paella. We both started off with homemade French onion soup and my wife ordered seafood linguine while I had the slow cook beef. Everything was delicious and well-presented and staff were pleasant and obliging. To round the meal off, we couldn’t resist the sticky toffee pudding with cream for dessert. All in all, we thought it was very reasonably priced and will definitely be coming back. In fact, talking to Agatha, the landlady, they organise Spanish nights on the first Wednesday of every month so we’ll be booking a table to sample their paella and sangria. Getting into the holiday spirit early this year!

I love this pub the food is great but yesterday was amazed that they could turn 3 people away when there was only one person sitting at the bar with a dog. There were two tables in the bar that could have been set up for lunch. I find it amazing in this climate that publicans and staff don't want to take money. If the restaurant was fully occupied I would have understood never had a great meal elsewhere The Guinea were only to pleased to see us and accommodated us

WOW!Had family over to stay and were struggling to find a suitably priced, quality, local place to dine. Read other reviews and decided to give it a try. Greeted with fantastic FRESHLY prepared and COOKED food by the landlord himself, with his lovely wife heading the service at the table offering a variety of both traditional and Mediterranean dishes available at very reasonable prices. This service and quality of food here knocks the socks off some top Pub/ Restaurants.

Lunch for five, lovely old pub, really cosy and made to feel welcome on arrival by the owners. Spanish style starter, roast meat of your choice and then over to the vegetable counter to fill your plate. Nice sweets and coffee to end the meal. Food was hot, wine rather nice and you do not feel rushed. Will return.

Had a wonderful time at the 1st anniversary of their Spanish night. To explain, David and Aggie (the landlords) are both Spanish and have brought their tasty culinary routes to this local village pub. With a choice of over 30 Tapas dishes and various Paellas we were spoilt for choice. We had a well presented authentic Spanish food experience, and the Sangria flowed! The staff dressed the part and there was even live music.Thoroughly good vibrant evening with friends and will will all definitely be returning.Their traditional Sunday lunches are also good and excellent value for money. There is also plenty to choose from on their daily menus, including some tapas dishes and Paella.A great pub with plenty to offer, with friendly owners and staff who really do try and make you feel welcome. Thoroughly recommend!

3 of us met for lunch last Friday and we chose this pub due to it being easy for all 3 of us to meet in and after reading the reviews here on Tripadvisor. I must say none of us new really what to expect but we where pleasantly surprised. On entering we where greeted with a cosy old village pub which nowadays seem to be vastly disappearing. All 3 of us chose food from the menu - 2 courses for £7.95 which was excellent value for money. The home made carrot cake was delicious. From now on I think this will become a regular meeting place for our lunchtime meet up.

My mother and I entered the pub from the side entrance. You are immediately struck by the character, low beams, very cosy and a real fire! We were greeted by Agatha at the bar and offered to pick a tablet in the dining area, this is located to the rear of the bar.My mother had battered mushrooms for starters, I had parsnip soup. The mushrooms were served with salad and home made spicy dip. These were very tasty, the dip was quite spicy, a perfect compliment! The soup was superb, nice and thick with a wonderful taste. A few spring onions, cheese and some bread. For mains my mother had the BBQ burger, I had sausage and mash. The burger was large, served with skinny fries and BBQ dip. Fabulous home made burger, with bacon, cheese, onions, salad. Too large for my mother I had to help out :-) I would probably swap the skinny fries for "triple cooked" chips next time. The sausages (3) were nicely cooked and tasty, as was the mash, served with some nice rich gravy. We both decided to skip deserts as we were full.I have passed this pub 100's of times over the years, it was a nice surprise to find home cooked quality food at a very good price. There is also a set menu available2 Courses £7.95 (Main and Dessert)2 Courses £8.95 (Starter and Main)3 Courses £9.95I will definitely return!

This pub has been through some tough times until the arrival of Agatha and David in 2015. What a difference they have made. They have turned a gloomy drinking hole with dingy food into a lovely, cosy pub with amazing food. I eat on here often. The lunch menu is fantastic value and you get a lot of food for your money. We had our Christmas party here and they coped brilliantly with 23 people with different food intolerances. Sunday lunch is carvery style and great value. Dinner menu is varied. The couple are Spanish and do a great tapas. They also do a Spanish night. Any allergies are well catered for. Service is friendly and welcoming. Food is all freshly cooked. They have a quiz night on a Thursday and regularly host live music. It's a great pub to visit. Well done guys on turning this once dying pub into a delightful place to visit.

We came to the car boot last weekend and popped in for breakfast. I chose mine and my boyfriend chose the omelette. At the till the young lad turned to his colleague and asked if an omelette would be ok, he said ‘ dunno go and ask ‘ so he asked the lady in the kitchen who just said ‘no’. So he came out and said ‘we can’t do an omelette’ so my boyfriend picked the club sandwich. The same thing happened, this time he said ‘ I don’t want to get shouted at let me go and check’. Then we heard another ‘ no ‘. He came back and said only breakfast (the menu does not state timings or what things can be ordered at what time) so we said don’t worry and left. No apology or anything. Menus need updating to be clearer and more professional staff. Not sure why an omelette wouldn’t be served for breakfast. We used to come in most weekends for omelettes at breakfast time, we will not be back.

Popped in for a glass of wine and lunch after a hospital visit in the morning. I have to say the food, drink and staff ticked all the boxes

I like the Plough. It is informal and very relaxed. It represents the kind of original village public house where locals chat around the bar and non-locals are warmly welcomed. It's not a gourmet or gastro pub and it's not a modern glitzy pub. It's just a friendly, comfortable place to get a beer, wine, g&t etc.

The food was absolutely with out taste. Wafle which I couldn't eat was really bad taste like just buy from nearest shop and done in microwave. the service showed that the customer is not welcome. no one from the service asked if we liked the food or if we wanted to order something else. we will definitely not go back there and I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
