So glad we found this gem of a pub. We were looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch during a hastily arranged last minute visit to Royal Wootton Bassett. The reviews looked favourable and after calling them the day before our visit they had a table available which we snapped up. On site parking wasn't available but parking at the nearby Sainsbury's pay & display car park was just 70p all day, No brainer!! Upon arrival we found the thatched roof pub very charming and we received a warm welcome from bar staff. We were swiftly served drinks and shown to our table in a quiet room at the back of the pub On offer at the bar was a fantastic choice of real ales which pleased hubby. Their delicious dessert menu also went down well with my son. The main event 'The Sunday Roast' didn't disappoint and was absolutely lush!! Roast Beef, Shoulder of lamb, Roast Chicken and Pork to choose from. We opted for the Beef and the Lamb and were impressed at the portion sizes. Accompanied with roasties, a homemade yorkie, parsnips, fresh (not frozen) vegetables and delicious gravy we thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Naturally we felt obliged to test out the desserts too, which also hit the mark. Would definitely recommend The Five Bells for Sunday lunch and wouldn't hesitate to return again when we are next in the area. Thank you for your hospitality!!

Amazing food and brilliant atmosphere, a really friendly pub. Menu a bit different and we loved that vs classic food choices.

Food was dire. Dirty fries had barely any cheese, were dry and thick cut. No sauce or salt and vinegar on the table. The chicken on top was chewy as not chicken breast, two tiny portions too. Not cheap and won’t return.

Disappointed with service , waited half hour for menus as was told ‘there are only 5 and they are all being used’! Then had to wait another hour for food!! Shame as when we eventually hit our lunch It was very tasty Sadly won’t return

This was a great discovery for Sunday lunch. Without a reservation, my friend and I happened upon this lovely pub. Excellent choice of drinks, pleasant, traditional atmosphere and welcoming staff. The Sunday roasts (lamb and belly pork) were excellent. Clean plates afterwards! Another visit to this hostelry is definitely on the cards, because the weekday menu caters for all tastes and pockets. Best pub in Royal Wootton Bassett bar none! Great beer selection, fantastic old building with loads of character, and a great location to watch big sporting events due to the atmosphere.

A lovely pub with stellar service! The staff were so attentive and kind. I wish I would have gotten the server's name but we had a toddler with us and she was so kind and lovely toward him. Food came out very quickly and was delicious. Cosy atmosphere with a nice log burner. Excellent gluten free options. Highly recommend.

Great range of beers. Very busy even during weekdays, so book a table if you plan to eat here. Food is expensive but very good quality. Absolutely the best battered onion rings I've ever tasted. 2018/11/14 Had the Ramsbury Milk Stout today. A fantastic pub with wonderful, warm, friendly staff and locals. Off the main high street, it is a hidden gem, with its lovely thatched roof and open fires it is a place you want to seek out. They also make the most amazing Yorkshire puddings which we were lucky enough to sample with a bowl of gravy! Thank you for a wonderful weekend, we will be back to visit soon.

Great Sunday lunch selection. Lovely beers that were well kept. It's just a great pub with good food. Thursday night, five person, dinner update two years later: Excellent varied pub food menu. Which was well served and very tasty. Eight hand pumps serving a cider and seven ales. Plus, twelve pressurised pumps for beers, lagers, and ciders. An excellent drink selection overall,even before the wines and spirits. Is this RWB's best kept secret pub?

The moment i Entered the pub the local chaps made me feel at home straight away. For lunch I had 2 nice portions of fish and lovely big fat chips and mushy peas.

Great pub with atmosphere and superb beers

Our favourite pub in RWB. We're luckily very local so we're able to pop in too regularly, some might say. Love the log fire. Service always bubbly. Burgers are the best but recommend a bib or change of clothes. If it's not dripping down my hands and all over my face, I don't want it.

8 hand pumps, 12 electric serving all your faves plus more. I had a pale ale from Bristol when my dad had a bass 😁£8.85 for the two pints I didn't eat here but the eating area out the back looked amazing, great ambience.

Friendly traditional pub with a nice atmosphere, open fire and ever changing selection of decent beers, so definitely the choice in Bassett if you like a real ale. I've never had a bad pint here. It's probably the town's most popular pub, but also quite small, so it can get very busy some evenings and it can be a struggle to find a seat, but that's for a good reason! Well worth a visit though.

One of my favorite pubs. I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. It’s such a lovely and cosy little place with great food, drinks and staff. They always make me feel at home, even when I haven’t been in for a while.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch based on good reviews, they were 100% accurate. What a great atmosphere. Pub was very busy when we arrived without booking, Becci, said if we could wait a little while she would find us a table. The wait was a little longer than we had hoped, but only because customers were taking their time. Becci kept us informed and kept apologising. When the food arrived it was definitely worth the wait. We will be back

The best local pub. Great selection of ales.

What a great pub restaurant. A fine selection of drinks on draft, far more than you'd find in most places. A small but very tasty menu with home cooking front and centre. We had ham egg and chips, which doesn't sound exciting but I'm still talking about how good it was! And it has a great atmosphere. It's cosy, friendly and run by good people. If you're looking for a lovely pub, with good food run by people who care, you'd be hard pushed to find somewhere this good in the area.

Cosy back street pub with a real fire (or a good fake). Wide range of cask ales and well above average food. At the time of writing (October 23), it was North Wiltshire and Swindon CAMRA Pub of the Year.

Nice little pub with an open fire for them winter nights. Nice choice of drinks including cocktails. Little slow on serving on the couple of occasions we have visited. It’s a shame the garden area is now fully covered by a roof as the smoke lingers too much.

Beautiful cosy pub in Royal Wotton Basset. I've worked in the town for 4 years and this was my first visit. Sitting by the fire drinking a glass of Romanian wine, eating amazing food catching up with friends. Time flew by, before I knew it, it was closing time. Service was so friendly, like I was one of the locals. I can see why this place is so popular. I will be back again. Thank you

Was busy when myself and my family stopped in need of some food, an amazing woman helped us find seats, menus then when the bar got busy she even took our order from our table. Even though she was busy running around trying to do everything m, she was wonderful to guests and the food was really good!

Went Tuesday 18th July. Asked for an Old Fashioned and when though not on the menu was superbly made. Went so well with The Godfather burger - was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The combination of pesto and pine nut and cheese fits so well and so filling. The chips are outstanding. Real rustic feel to this pub and even though I was dubious about the reviews I've been converted. When I am in the area again I will be back again for this gourmet pub grub. Quite simply outstanding.

Fabulous dog friendly pub, service with a smile and great food, sat in the beer garden under shelter from a small drizzle of rain, heaters available but definitely not required today!

Me and my wife stayed in Wooten Basset for a couple of nights and we popped into The Five Bells with our little one, whilst he was asleep. Unfortunately he woke up and was very restless and upset. The staff were both very helpful and friendly giving us a bowl of cold water to cool his bottle down.

Stopped in for lunch and it was amazing definitely recommend, the quality of food and service is outstanding

We managed to book last minute for Fathers Day and on the day added more guests. We were warmly welcomed and the pub was buzzing with a great atmosphere. We enjoyed the best Sunday roast ever. Would highly recommend especially as very affordable too. Can’t wait to revisit soon. Thank you for forgiving me not being able to count to 6 ;-)

Small, local pub with a few tables serving simple but unusual dishes as well as classic home made burgers! Great ambiance...low beamed ceiling; open fire (even on chillier summer evenings). Beers and ciders I've never tasted before - not unusual of course; there's lots I still need to try.

Wonderful pub with a lovely atmosphere and great selection of guest ales on tap each week. The really helpful and friendly staff get to know your tastes in drinks over time and give advice on new beers you might like. Good outside space with covering (just in case the weather doesn't behave) and nice food. Overall excellent.

It is a really busy place, so to have the opportunity to eat there, you will need to plan the time you arrive. Staff is friendly, good options of beer and the food is also good. The price is fair. You can bring your dog weigh is awesome. I will be back, for sure.

Awesome town pub just off the main highstreet. Great covered garden area. Award winning beers and cider. Friendly staff. Small amount of parking requires luck to get a space.

Good town pub. Lovely vibe with good outdoor seating area. Update: Visited again yesterday evening and enjoyed the same hospitality and good service. The regulars are also friendly and the beer is very nice. The outdoor seating area has heaters and blankets so it is comfortable, even in the colder weather. The Five Bells very much remains on my recommendation list!

How lucky to find this pub down a side street. Friendly, helpful bar staff; excellent food (Friday night is street food and the 2 dishes I chose were delicious and good size portions); alongside warm, friendly regulars .. .. this place can't be faulted.

I've recently moved to Swindon and this is my favourite pub to eat at. They are welcoming, they do their best to sit you to eat, even if you're alone and willing to sit at the bar. They bend over backwards. The food is delicious and well priced. All this means that I'm less willing to try other places because the 5 times I've been there in the past 3 months, they've nailed it every time. I brought colleagues last time and they loved the food too.

Such a good pub. Everything from the ambience through to the food which was outstanding. Good selection of beers. Good variety of dogs on duty and several fires. Great attention from the staff. We only stayed for a bit but the punters seemed nice too.

Not the cheapest burgers around but could possibly be the best. Thanks for the great service from all the staff, and the medium rare burger was perfect for me but but maybe not for a different diner. Reordering drinks was made easy by caring and friendly bar staff. CURRENTLY offering simpler food menus on busier days

Have visited here multiple times. It's a beautiful, cosy pub with a very welcoming atmosphere and inviting smell of wood smoke from a toasty, real fire. It's one of our favourite local places for Sunday lunch. We have always found the food to be very well cooked, fresh, extremely tasty and piping hot. The staff are very friendly whether you are a regular visitor or new face and the service is attentive without being pushy.

Always a good atmosphere. Haven't eaten her but food always loojs and smells good. It is small so can get quite full at times.

Thank you so much for such a lovely meal last night. We’d been unexpectedly travelling all day, grabbed a sausage roll at lunch time and ended up by chance at The Five Bells, ready to eat. Friendly welcoming, loved the ‘it’s Thursday, this is tonight’s menu’ great selection and variety - and our meal was delicious. We’ll definitely be back!

Have visited here lots over the last couple of years. Beer always excellent and a lot of choice. Food fresh and delicious. Great atmosphere and always seems to be busy. They do take bookings and will reserve you a table. Thoroughly recommend this welcoming pub.

The food is stunning! Def not your average pub! Highly recommend it ad a fabulous place to eat. We ate at lunchtime and every dish was excellent. Very friendly staff too.

First time eating in the pub. Food and service was outstanding. My wife is a coeliac and the menu had a vast array of choices for her to have. Looking forward to our next meal there.

As you enter the pub it was very busy but a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The female manager and the rest of the team were friendly and professional. Although they don’t take reservations and you may have to wait a while for a table it is worth the wait. With a wide variety on the menu all served to a delicious standard. Would recommend for families, couples or groups. Great pub that I will definitely return to. P.s the burgers are top notch!
