Fantastic lunch, just off the A303 on our way to Cornwall. Really delicious, fresh food with a very warm welcome. We will definitely stop here again on our next trip. Loved the Trivial Pursuit cards, too! :)

Lovely pub/restaurant - disappointed with the wait over an hour for our food though 🤨 nice serving of food but my pan fried chicken was like leather and the sauce far too salty!

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch yesterday. Although it was extremely busy, waiting times were kept to a minimum. Food came out hot and delicious and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend to anyone but booking is a must. Thank you to you all

This is our new favourite pub! We had such a warm welcome, from staff and regulars drinking at the bar, and sun was streaming through the windows, through which there was a beautiful view of the river and fields of horses. The food was SO good - the chips deserve a special mention - but it was ALL delicious. The coffee was absolutely top notch, too. The loos were really clean, and the whole pub was spotless and gleaming, with a real fire roaring as you walk in. We can't wait to come back - thank you!

I have visited the pub 5 times now twice when my brother can from Isle of Wight his choice and we came last Monday and the food was great and the service was brilliant , lovely friendly staff and great atmosphere perfect and a place so good is hard to find thank you

Due to the popularity of this small pub and the quality of food, you will need to book if wanting a Sunday roast. Reasonably priced, nice staff and a selection of drinks at a reasonable price. You won't be dissapointed .

I met a friend for lunch at The Earl of Normanton. This was my first visit and it was just right. The pub is spacious, warm and the staff welcoming. The bar area is bright and clean with what looked like a great range of real ales on sale. Food was home cooked tasty and substantial. Nice coffees and dog friendly.

Food was visually unappetising - just a huge blob of white gloopy sauce with overcooked green beans on one side and dried up slices of fried potato on the other. It was very salty and I didn't enjoy it. I did not complain because it was a family meal with relatives who said they liked to go there. I've been twice now, and both times I have been disappointed. It is expensive, considering the quality of the food. The staff are friendly, although service was very slow. I will not be going back.

Great Sunday lunch, we couldn't eat all that was served and the food was cooked well by Chef Toby. Owners and Staff are all friendly and attentive and very welcoming. I have been there a few times and it's our No 1 choice if we decide to go for a local meal out.

Lovely village pub. Had a wonderfully cooked Sunday roast.

We went for the Pie and Puzzle Night. Very enjoyable. The steak pie was really well made and it was a good set of quiz questions. Well kept beer and lovely staff.

Had a great lunch today. Steak & ale pie was full of meat & served with a big portions of new potatoes & mixed veg, broccoli, carrots & cabbage. The ham, eggs & chips was excellent, nice ham, plentiful chips & perfectly cooked eggs. The staff were very friendly & attentive checking if I would like butter for the new potatoes & returning to see if more gravy was required. To top it off they had an excellent selection of ales on tap!

Picked this pub as a half way meeting point with family and so glad we did - wonderful food and service. Thank you so much, especially catering for a variety of dietary needs - We will return!

Lovely little pub with homemade food. The staff were fantastic, warm and really friendly. We called ahead to check they had vegan options for a roast. Partner had mixed meat roast and I had the harvest pie. Sadly no vegan starters and only sorbet for dessert, so just had mains. They were lovely though!

Just passing and dropped in for lunch. What a find! Lovely staff, good food and great value. We had the vegan vegetable tart which came with salad, chips and slaw. The place was busy for a Wednesday lunchtime, which is great to see.

Visited with my Aunt for lunch. Made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. Invited to choose a table and then our drink and food order was taken. Lovely food. Fresh and piping hot. Good value. Waitress very friendly. Really enjoyed our visit and will return.

We came for food this evening and we have to say it was amazing, great service, amazing food, large portions and tasted amazing. Visited this little gem on a whim after being at a local event, I can honestly say this is genuinely the best roast I've ever had eating out! Piping hot, good portion and flavours to die for, great attentive staff and dog friendly. CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH

This was my first visit here, and I was very impressed! The food quality was excellent! The roast beef was cooked perfectly and served with excellent roast potatoes and fresh Yorkshire pudding. A side portion of seasonal vegetables was offed and again I could not fault them, all cooked to perfection. The cauliflower cheese was a marvel of perfection! 10/10 for the catering team here. The pub itself is everything you expect from a country pud, the staff are friendly and the service of food was some of the best I’ve experienced in years of eating out, we was offered drinks when glasses where empty and extra gravy was supplied without even asking at the point of mains service. We didn’t ever have to even call a waiter over once. It was a very nice change to have a dinning experience where it was an actual experience and not a sausage factory of getting customers through the door. 10/10 for the front of house team! I will definitely be returning soon and next time I will take some pictures.

We had a wonderful meal here recently, for Sunday lunch and it was perfect. Great veggies, delicious roast beef with all the trimmings and an amazing home-made sticky toffee pudding! Compliments to the chef and the staff are always amazing too. We will be back!

My Husband and I visited this pub this evening for a meal to celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary. We had such a lovely meal. The food is amazing. The staff are lovely and welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely and we weren't rushed at all. We had such a special evening and can't wait to return to the pub again another day. Thank you very much!

Family get together on Easter Monday 2024. Great choice of pub type foods, really well cooked and good portion sizes. The panettone bread and butter pudding with custard is highly recommended. The service was good, even when the place appeared to be full of diners. Good choice of lagers,ales and ciders. if you travelling from North on 303 to Salisbury,leave the 303 at the 338 junction follow the road to Porton and stop for lunch. I'll be back!

Wow!!! Seriously, I rarely give five stars. The best food that I've had in the UK!! Everything was perfect! The satay chicken was delicious, the Steak and ale pie was by far the most delicious pie that I've had. The fish and chips were awesome and the macaroni and cheese was chefs kiss. 👨‍🍳 💋 Tremendous portions. Great pricing. Excellent service with a smile. Very clean establishment. I was very pleasantly surprised. 10/10 I will be back.

A great pub, the Sunday roast is great, lovely herby roasts, great gravy and the cauliflower cheese is excellent! Staff super friendly and attentive. And they allow the dogs too. Highly recommend.

We were introduced to the Earl of Normanton last year for my wife's birthday. Since then, we have been there numerous times, the food, staff and atmosphere is just great. Mega compliments to the chef, no matter how busy the food is spot on, can not fault it, staff always friendly, facilities clean. Really enjoy going there. Thank you guys 🙂

Lovely place. The chef is brilliant here and the roast dinners amazing. My only small criticism would be of the crumble topping, which was too dry and 'floury' and not baked into the fruit base. However, this place has a great atmosphere, wonderful food and very attentive staff. Would definitely return!

We just had a big family gathering at the Earl of Normanton and the food was brilliant. Our little boy has a number of food allergies which makes eating out quite worrying but the whole team went above and beyond to make sure he and we could enjoy our food without a worry. We cannot thank the chef enough! We will be back to enjoy another great meal soon.

We came here on a Friday night while on a short break with the kids and had a lovely meal and a well-kept ale. Service was friendly and impeccable. We enjoyed the banana and apricot crunch tart for dessert as well, and the vintage crockery...

Came here with a freind for lunch. They were busy with a large booking due in, but squeezed us in and took our food orders swiftly so we didn't have to wait long :-) . Nice traditional pub with freindly helpful staff. Food was delicious with great portions. Puddings also lovely, I had the homemade lemon cheesecake and it was delightful. Would definitely recommend and will be returning. Great menu choices & children's meals avaliable.

Popped in here for a quick lunch on a road trip and was pleasantly surprised. Service as very good, genuine and as it should be, hospitable! Had a couple of sandwiches, which were tasty and promptly served. Toilets very clean and well stocked. Overall, definitely worth a pop in if your around the area.

The food was really good quality, service was excellent and really friendly. Roast beef had proper homemade Yorkshire pudding, fabulous veg (cauliflower cheese was incredible) and their gravy and roast potatoes easily the best we have had in a long time. Thoroughly recommended.

Nice food pub with friendly staff. Very generous portions of food. Only downside is that it is not really a pub for vegetarians. There were no vegan options on the menu and the only Vege option was quiche and salad with chips. In fairness, when I asked about this the friendly host said that the chef could also make a vege curry or burger and that they could make a vegan meal if requested. I had the quiche and it was very nice

Good pub on the A338 at Allington. Bucolic view across the valley. Polite friendly staff, food well presented and tasty pub food. Fish is massive. Good selection of beers, two notable local ales. Could do with another cider, not from one of the big nationals. Recommend the pub.

Typical pub food, very well prepared and tasty. Small pub but seems quite friendly with small outside area and ample parking. This is on a busy road. Can be expensive depending on what you order, but cheap it is not in any way. I would place this in the medium to expensive on the cost scale.

First time visit to this pub despite driving past it for years. Very pleasantly surprised. Lovely decor inside, great draught beers (Summer Lightning😜). Food was tasty and in very generous portions, with fresh ingredients. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.

Had a lovely meal on Sunday 4th June the portions were big and prices were reasonable happy staff making our stay memorable would highly recommend .

Was out on the motorbike and came across this little gem. So we pulled in and really liked the setup. Pub benches all along the back top away from the road, with nice views and gorgeous flowers all around. Staff were very friendly and provided great service. Food was high quality and I would recommend the fish and chips. We will be back again for another visit next time we are in the area. Thanks

An unprpoessing pub right next to the A338 road in Idmiston. What a wonder when you enter, a warm welcome from behind the bar with a superior level of banter. The place is clean, modestly but smartly decorated and with very little traffic noise. An impresive collection of Toby jugs decorates the walls. No delay in service which was efficient and friendly. A pleasant, friendly atmosphere pervades. The Sunday lunch was traditional but well cooked, presented and the plate was full plus a dish of vegetables all at a reasonable price. A good traditional village pub which I will certainly be going back to. Well recommended.

We were returning home from a break in Somerset today & needed to stop for lunch. Did a quick review search on TripAdvisor for pubs in the local area & found this little diamond. Plenty of parking & outdoor seating. The inside was picturesque with lovely ornaments to reflect a friendly, traditional pub. A warm welcome, delicious food & a moment to rest. Perfect! Thank you.
