I can highly recommend The Five Bells for a stay or a visit. We stayed there for an annual weekend away with friends. We arrived on Friday afternoon & were shown to our rooms. The twin room was not large but more than adequate with plenty of storage space. The room was clean & the beds were very comfortable. We ate at the pub in the evenings & the food was very good as well as the Breakfasts. Mary & all the staff were very friendly, the beer was good & the service was also very good. On the Saturday night we found ourselves involved in a Quiz & if you find a chance to be there when they are having one then have a go as it was very popular with the locals.

I use the five bells often, Sunday Lunch and Fish and Chips on Friday mainly. I just like the place. Eastry is easy to find. Signed posted off the Dover Sandwich road.

Unplanned first visit, we were thirsty and hungry so decided to stop here. The member of staff greeted us as soon as we walked in, and served us almost immediately. She explained the various menus and which foods were not available. Whilst serving us, she acknowledged other customers who were now waiting and said she would be with them in a minute - good customer service as many other places these days ignore the waiting customer! Although, we ordered our food separately, I also heard the member of staff inform the kitchen that the food should go out together (again a small thing but attention to detail is a plus). Although a light lunch, it arrived quickly and was tasty enough. Prices were reasonable and what you would expect to pay. The pub was clean and tidy. If we are in the area again, I would definitely stop here.

Friendly local pub. I went for a pub quiz with friends that live locally and it was great fun. We had a light supper there and the portion sizes were very generous.

The property is old but full of character. The rooms are clean, beds are very comfy, plenty of tea and coffee in the rooms. The bathroom was spotless. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The beer was cold and the food hot and tasty as well as well presented. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We used the pubs function room for the wake of my recently passed nan. From start to finish the staff made the whole organisation of this very easy in a difficult time. We ordered from buffet menu for everyone to be fair I was expecting basic sandwiches etc BUT I was very surprised on the amount and quality of food! The kitchen did an amazing job even making some beautiful gluten free food. The bar staff very attentive and on the ball for everyone's needs. Thank you five bells for making such a sad time a memorable and pleasant experience. Five stars not enough. Tony & Sally

This was a suprising little gem on our visit to Deal. We were staying at Eastry so decided to eat somewhere local. The pub itself is like a step back in time, lovely atmosphere, clean and everyone was really chatty and friendly, lots of locals. We had our evening meal which came out piping hot and really tasty, good quality pub food.

Popped in for lunch after a walk on a cold and mizzly January day. We had a warm welcome, nice beer and both of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. For me, vegetarian sausages, home made chunky chips, broccoli, carrots and a very tasty onion gravy. For him, linguine bolognese with garlic bread. Both very generous portions and freshly made. The cherry cheesecake to follow was lovely too. The landladies were both very friendly, and we were impressed by the extensive events calendar. Worth looking at the club's website for what looks like super B & B provision too in a great walking area. We'll be back!

A small group of friends met up to have a Christmas meal last evening. I booked beforehand, and advised that one person needed to have gluten free. The meal was excellent, catering for everyone’s needs. They catered for the gluten free meal without a problem. Providing gluten free, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, cauliflower cheese and Christmas Pudding. Staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble, she even took our group photos for us!! Defiantly would recommend!

Myself and husband stayed from Friday, 1 December 2023 for two nights in the family room. The room was amazing - really roomy and, in the very cold weather, super cosy, warm and very comfortable. We were really pampered by the staff - particularly Mary, Sam and Graham, the chef. The food was fabulous: we are vegan and had fantastic vegan breakfasts served which set us up for the day. We were treated as though we were royalty. We had a fantastic base to explore the area and would definitely recommend and, hopefully, go back soon. It is a wonderful old building, full of character. We both loved it.

This was our first visit to the Five Bells and it looks like we have found another decent pub in Kent. They took our booking at very short notice and were very accommodating. We were seated in the bar area as we had the dog with us. The bar was very busy but the staff were attentive and service was very good. Three of us had the Sunday Roast which got the thumbs up from all of us. If I’m honest the Yorkshire Puddings were a bit flat and not great but the cauliflower cheese was terrific and the roast beef very nice. All served with loads of veggies. The team are obviously doing something right because the bar was full of regulars. Price wise the Five Bells was also great value. Definitely recommended if you live locally or are visiting the area.

What an absolutely brilliant pub for a gathering! Booked a space for 20 people for a friend’s birthday to watch the rugby during the day as staying nearby and were given a whole room, with two screens, jukebox, pool table and darts. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly locals all made us feel welcome. We were there 12-7pm, a number of us ate, excellent food and quality drinks. Thank you again for hosting us!

We recently stayed in the Five Bells in the twin room, bit disappointed to find that the bathroom was down the corridor, I don't remember reading when I was looking for somewhere to stay. Was a bit of a pain especially if you have to get up during the night but it was for our use only. We did not hear any noise from the bar downstairs. Although it said we had free wifi couldn't connect at all. I can honestly say all the staff were very friendly especially Sam, Claire and Mary. We ate in the pub at night and found the food was very good as well as breakfast. The staff certainly looked after us with cold bottles of water as it was very hot. Even some of the locals were very friendly and chatted with us. Thank you for making us feel welcome.

We booked this on a red letter day deal with a significant top up. It’s a pub with rooms and no more. The room was ok but drab and dark. Food in the pub was good and on the first night the staff were lovely. Breakfast was good but on the Sunday the landlady was quite rude about “the outsiders” ie us, made us feel very uncomfortable

Booked for 9 of of us on Sunday night. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There was plenty of choice and the menu suited the whole family from children to seniors. We were most impressed that my daughters gluten free roast came with stuffing, a yorkshire pudding and extra gravy - just like everyone else's. Hardly ever happens. The waitress was a coeliac so she really understood. Overall great value and fabulous meal.

I use this Pub at least once a week mainly Sunday Lunch. The young lady that runs the restaurant knows what she is doing! I've not had a bad meal on any visit. If I did complain I'm sure she would sort it. I was drinking coffee a couple of weeks ago and ordered a second cup. Let's just say the tide was out. And I said to her is the Vicar coming to tea? Straight away I was given another coffee. I might be buyest. I just like the place.

Awful experience. Went for a wake with my family for a passed member, staff were horribly rude 90% of the evening. Woman behind the bar was miserable as anything and extremely rude for no apparent reason. Got to around 10.20pm the same barmaid came out side and quite rudely told is to leave, exact words were "can you lot hirry and drink up and get out" said with alot of attitude. Won't be returning if I can help it.

The people are so nice I find it difficult to criticise, but hopefully it might improve the cooking. My and other friends' opinion was the food was dire. Garlic and Stilton mushrooms??? About one mushroom chopped on a piece of toast with half a teaspoon of something liquid obviously meant to be the Stilton. Followed by the worst liver and bacon I can ever remember eating anywhere, any time. Over cooked liver, fatty bacon underneath the liver (should have been crispy streaky and on top of the liver) and mash which was OK. My husband had the fish and chips, flaccid batter with mediocre chips. All in all a waste of money I just don't know how this place got such good ratings. Try to do better.

I feel like I have been mugged We checked out trip advisor before we booked our stay and got a surprise as the reviews I read painted a completely different picture of the Five Bells to the one that greeted us.The outside of the building is very tired and the inside even more so. I doubt it has seen a paint brush or change of carpet for at least 20 years. It is the “local pub” but even the choice of beers limited. We stayed overnight and we unfortunately booked the twin room which was not en-suite. The last thing I want during the night is to get up and wander along a corridor for the loo but I had too. The shower was compact and the water control sensitive. The water does get very hot so be careful. The landlady Mary was pleasant and helpful as was Connor her assistant. I could not fault either of them. We ate in on our first night. I had pie which was fine and without doubt the the best thing about our stay was the plum sponge pudding. It was delicious.

We asked for extra vegetables and gravy which was done straight away. The dessert was chocolate fudge cake with a selection of creams or ice cream and mother had an apple and blackberry pie which was made with lovely thin pastry. There is a children’s menu to choose from. It was reasonable in price and definitely be making this our local due to plenty to do including quiz nights, karaoke and real ale weekends.

Connor at the bar was so welcoming and very attentive. Due to dietary needs he had to travel to the kitchen a few times. Having a milk allergy can be very limiting, so I was so pleased to know only one dish was off limits for me. I had the homemade fish cakes, so light and very tasty. To a degree we enjoyed our lunch visit to the 5 Bells. The service was okay, as was the food. But nothing outstanding. By contrast, most of the pubs we have sampled in this area of Kent are excellent. Fortunately, we left our dog at home; the licensee made it quite clear she didn't want dogs in her pub, allowing them only into a certain area; and only then if there wasn't a function on in that place. On the plus side the staff were great, the beer was good and the location fantastic. All things considered, wont be going back to the 5 Bells any time soon.

The pub was warm, welcoming with enough customers for us not to feel out of place. We both had an excellent fish pie-- hot, well cooked and with decent portions. Instead of a starter we had apple crumble and bread and butter pudding with plenty of custard. What the main dinner menu is like we obviously cannot say, but for our purposes the good honest pub grub was excellent, as was the beer and the service.A nice atmosphere in a traditional country pub.

We were camped a mile and a half away from Eastry and decided to walk to the pub for an evening meal. When we arrived it was raining, windy and very cold. We had our small well behaved dog with us but the staff would not allow us to go into the pub with him. We said that we quite understood that dogs would not be welcome in the dining room but that we would be happy to eat in the bar. We were told that they did not have a licence for dogs in the pub. We know that no licence exists and that is entirely at the pubs discretion. We were standing just inside the bar having this conversation and a number of people were making a fuss of our dog at this point. We were then told that normally we would be allowed to eat in the function room but unfortunately they were holding an event in there . It was getting quite late and we were cold and hungry. It would have taken too long to walk back to the campsite, pack down our camper awning and drive to another pub. We had no choice but to sit in the smelly smoking shed to eat our food. We were not even offered a complementary drink for the inconvenience .The waitress came out at one point to ask if everything was OK and seemed oblivious to our discomfort. We have never before been to a country pub where dogs aren't allowed into the bar. Our dog would have lay down under the table and no one would have even known he was there. AWFUL!

Very nice pub/restaurant we booked for Sunday Lunch which is a necessity on August bank holiday as they were busy. We had a drink before lunch in their pleasant back garden. Were seated on time and served promptly, menu had enough good choices with plenty of veggie options. I had Chicken Roast, the others had spag bowl, 1 Veggie tart and 1 Mac and cheese no starters or deserts . we all enjoyed our meal and would go back if in the area .

Éramos un grupo de 14, para el almuerzo del domingo. La comida era excelente, abundante y caliente, que es lo principal. El servicio era bueno, y todo el personal era muy encantador. Sin duda volveremos. Yo no me puedo quejar.

First time visit to the five bells. Booked a table based on reviews and found it to be perfect. The food is good and staff very friendly. Will definitely visit again. Be aware that they are in the middle of building a new restaurant area with looks great, so food is eaten in the bar area, this is not an issue however I would recommend booking in advance as it gets very busy.

It is not easy to drive here but your visit may worth it. The charming 18 century rural house accommodates family restaurant on the ground floor and several rooms on the first. Good selection of beers and ales, vines and ciders also available. Unforgettable olives. I would suggest to change the butcher – the steak was laisse à desirer. There is a summer terrace in the yard

Came to the five bells whilst visiting family . The atmosphere is welcoming warm and cosy and there are two bars to chose from! One with a snooker table and the other a nice quiet area you can eat or relax in . I had the blues burger and it was immense ! No plastic burger here , nice thick home made burger with lashings of Stilton and bacon ,the portions are generous. The staff are friendly and helpful and we ended up staying there for drinks after ! Recommend !

Popped in for meal in the evening. Very friendly staff, chatty. Had vegetarian burger which came with chips and salad. Very nice and was good to see that the bun was buttered. Couldn't finish my meal, very filling.

We went for lunch at this pub and was very disappointed. The service was slow and the food - well how do we describe it. My friend had the meal from the board which was turkey and leek pie. When it came it didn't look appealing in the first place and as there was now gravy it was so dry. We both agreed that we would never eat there again.

This was such a let down. It could be a lovely pub with some hard work. The owner needs to listen to staff and customers and spend time looking at other local pubs as role models. The Sunday roast was very poor, the service was poor with the head waitress seeming to be constantly worried about the owner. The trainee waitress received conflicting instructions and she didn't know what to do for the best. (Not her fault.) The owner spoke terribly to her in front of customers. The function room was very cold and furniture needs an upgrade. I would not recommend this pub to anyone.

Seems beautiful from the outside, but it's very much a hostel in a cramped old building. It does the job, as the beds were good, but the shared bathroom was not a good experience. Pretty sure the person that checked us in was drunk/high af.

A nice, cheap hotel just as expected. Great location. Room was clean and tidy. I was in a room with shared bathroom which are pretty tired. Nice breakfast. Nice staff
