The Fish Hut in Hastings

really disappointed with what was suppose to be large fish and chips. it was so small, appalling. it was also incredibly greasy and overcooked. chips were full of bits. will never go here again

Update, went back to enjoy the food and support the lovely owner. Sadly the place really needs a good clean. The condiments are filthy and definitely not been cleaned out and changed for a while. The radiators are rusty and filthy. Around the windows and down the wall dirty. Menu so old . Very worn out and dirty. The place needs a real clean and keep on top of it. The staff need to do better. The tables and chairs are small enough for children. They are like dinner hall tables. Table and chairs stuck togegher. Sadly I wont be back again. . Very busy easter weekend Such lovely staff really helpful and chatty. They were rushed off their feet. I noticed rude customers. Inpatient people In the que. We ate indoors and was served quickly and food arrived quick and fresh. Table a bit dirty. Menu is great, artistic. Fish facts. Lovely hot chips well cooked Nice curry sauce thick and hot Battered sausage crunchy.  Tastes good 7 out of 10. . Light batter Gravy tasty but to thin. Ketchup reasonable. Bit to much vinegar Seating up stairs In a great part of the old town. We will be back

Tasty fish and chips. Lots of places to choose from along the sea front but we were impressed with the food here. Not overly pricey like most, and very tasty indeed.

Very good fish & chips at a reasonable price

The large portion of chips was very small and contained lots of dry bits. Unfortunately poor value for money. Strangely the 2 regular portions were the same size?

By the sea and what better place to have fish and chips. Appreciate this is no longer a cheap meal so needs to deliver on taste and presentation. Would have liked the tables to be wiped down between customers and a decent serviette. Chips and cod tasty but cod not very big for £12.50.

10/10 customer service, and Atmosphere As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a warm smile from Amad, the lady's serving are great, will definitely come back to this shop.

Top notch old fashioned chip shop, take away or sit in. You couldn't find friendlier people and more helpful service. The food is delicious, probably down to the top quality cooking oil and freshness of the fish. Family run since the 1980s and some of the longest established fishermen in Hastings.

I had huss and chips, followed by apple pie, fish cooked fresh to order, meal was top quality. Staff very friendly and attentive, can thoroughly recommend

The fries AKA chips were very tasty DON'T GIVE ANYTHING TO THE SEAGULLS they were the best fries I've eaten

I came in and some lovely young waitresses served me who really brightened up my day. The chips were deliciously cooked to perfection and they were willing to cater to my needs. Overall The Fish Hut is the best fish and chip shop in Hastings! Go to fish hut and you taste buds will thank you 😊

Food wasn't bad but we had 1 large chips 2 plain sausages , 2 cokes, and 3 orange juices and it came to over 20 pounds complete rip off

Lovey food, good sized portions. Reasonable price. Friendly staff. Interior needs a bit of an update but other than that all good.

Not the cleanest place, seats where torn up, Staff where miserable and the portions where small and the food tasted of straight flower at least the fish was better soft drinks where flat and where a bit warm

Went there hoping to have a nice meal and was disappointed. I had saveloy, and it was nice with weird cripy ends, but the chips were terrible. They had hard bits all over them and tasted of straight flower. Had the coke, and it was ok but a bit flat. The staff looked like they didn't want to be there, and the place was very unhygienic. The seats we sat on were all torn up! Overall, I didn't enjoy my experience, but at least the saveloy was ok.

Nice fish and chips in a nice location. Good view over the beach from the upstairs seating area. Very nice staff, very polite and food was served very quickly. Furniture needed a bit of TLC, but overall, I was happy with the experience.

So I was in England from September 10th, 2023 to September 15th, 2023 and went on a school trip there. So when we came into the store on the first day, we were quickly greeted by a cloud of fish. We were immediately sent upstairs to be seated. At first the shop seems very clean, but once you sit down you realize how sticky everything is and that the shop is getting a little old. When we were greeted by a very jittery and nervous girl, we were finally able to order. The fries were very disgusting and the fish burger was just warmed up. The fries taste like they came from the freezer and my classmates got dirty dishes. The shop is not recommended and the food is not edible either);

Very tasty fish, but the fries weren't well done, so only 4 stars. The fan on the ceiling was slightly moldy. Overall, a delicious meal.

We called in tonight and sat at a table downstairs. Our order was taken by a friendly waitress. We both ordered cod and chips at £12.50 each to eat in. This was freshly cooked. The fish was very fresh and had a really good batter and the chips were perfect. A very good fish supper. Thank you!

We have just left here, and want to say that it was a pleasure visiting. From the moment we both walked thru the door…. We were warmly welcomed. We went upstairs, and the waitress had such a lovely, and caring way about her. So a definite 10 out of 10. 😊

Absolutely horrible spent £32 on 4 battered sausages and 4 portions of chips. The batter was absolutely disgusting and the size of the portions of chips were the size of my fist. Its absolutely disgraceful. Not only that the chips themselves were soggy and horrible

My wife and our grandchildren enjoyed our food non left over my haddock was good and my wife enjoyed her cod the grandchildren had sausage and as I say not a chip left

The chips there are bloody amazing, fresh, hot and delicious. Wish I lived closer so I could have them more often. Of i come to Hastings again I’m definitely going back there. Very affordable too for a budget holiday. The staff there are also absolute sweethearts. A very friendly place to go.

Take away fish and chips was a great option and I was not disappointed, quick service on Sunday afternoon generous portion of chips and tasty cod all was perfect.

Popped in with kids when on a day trip and the service was great, the staff are super kind and friendly, and the chips were some of the best we've ever had from a chippy! Will make a beeline here when next in Hastings!

We felt really welcome the cook and waitress were really lovely and served us outside. A beautiful spot. Our chips were proper sliced not frozen chips they also serve alcohol .bonus..and we enjoyed the sunshine sat outside at their tables. The museum and fisheries all across road .. fresh as seafood. Highly recommended but there's only 3 tables outside so I would get a rush on if you want a good spot but they do takeaway too.thank you fish hut.

Always pop in here for lunch when working down in Hastings. The food is lovely freshly cooked to order. The staff are super friendly and always like a good chat with their customers.

We always eat in this fish shop when come to Hastings, but think we will give a miss from now on .. I ordered cod and chips , a small sausage and still water. My husband had pasty and chips and a white coffee . His pasty was fine but we both got a small portion of chips , there were about 6 good chips the rest were bitty ends , his pasty was fine , but my cod was very small and didn’t have much cod in it , the sausage was like a savoloy and rock hard, the only good thing was the service , very polite girls , was then charged over £30 for the meal. £12.50 for fish when everywhere else in Hastings is between £9.50 and £11.50 for large. Almost £3 for a tiny sausage unbelievable

We missed out on the mystery peas despite being promised they were coming and had not been forgotten. Then no apology when I requested that we kindly should not pay for something we had not been given. The message is if you order food it's because you want to eat it, not because you want to request not to pay for it because you never got it. I guess they make enough money not to be bothered about losing profit and on our next visit to Hastings we will go to one of the many other fish bars to see if indeed mushy peas are really a thing or just a mystery. LOL. PS I see below asking what I recomend so sadly I can't recomend the mushy peas as they don't exist.

Very hard working waitress made our visit an excellent one - nice tip, well deserved. Beautifully cooked cod and haddock with chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a cuppa; lovely! Seating upstairs as well meant they were always busy.

Nicest Plaice and Chips I’ve enjoyed for as long as I can remember - freshly battered and cooked fish, served in no time, plus really excellent chips. The owners were very friendly and the price was fair for the quality of my grub! Will go there next time in Hastings, but strongly recommend you try it yourselves. Thank you, The Fish Hut 👍🏻

I wandered into this place after my car broke down and I was waiting for the recovery truck. Chatty friendly staff and made to feel really welcoming and food is top notch too.
