Fantastic find for a birthday treat! Service and food wonderful. We sat outside and felt very special eating such beautifully presented and tasty food. Had the crab sharing platter, two alc free beers with it and the bill was under £40 Worth it and fabulous!

What an absolute treat, myself and my daughter treated my dad to a birthday lunch. We opted for a mixed platter which was superb, the selection far exceeded expectations and was fresh and delicious. We opted to let the chef make a platter up for us and we were presented with a fabulous mix of shellfish, smoked fish together with hunks of beautifully fresh brown and white breads with lashings of butter. The intimate setting was great as it enabled us to chat with other diners who were having a similarly delicious experience. We selected a bottle of perfectly chilled Pinot Grigio which was a perfect pairing with our food. This was quite simply a perfect birthday treat and we can't wait to visit again.

Absolutely fantastic service, beautiful fresh fish & value for money. Unfortunately they had limited staff on so we’re unable to serve so recommended we purchase & eat at the Vine & Juniper and enjoy a glass of wine, which we did. Thoroughly recommended!

Visited here for some seafood to takeaway. Staff were really lovely and kept our children happily entertained with the fish on show whilst they prepared the platter. Gorgeous crab platter and generous portion - kept us going for two days and we both have good appetites. Perfect with a glass of fizz and some sourdough.

First visit today and we will most definitely be back. Everything about our experience was superb. The friendly, attentive staff to the freshest, tastiest fish/shellfish. We opted to sit at the bar in the window as the seating was a bit cosy for our liking and will request the same seats when we return. We pre booked (I would say this is a necessity due to the small seating capacity) I also requested alcohol free larger which isn't usually stocked however they got some in especially for our visit which was hugely appreciated. We had the sharing crab platter which was plentiful for the two of us. It was delightful! If you are a sea food lover as are we this lovely little place is a must try! You can also purchase fresh seafood to take away however I get the impression they sell out quite quickly due to the popularity and quality of the food.

We had a wonderful fish platter at The Fish House today. In fact I can’t remember eating a better one in the uk. My husband was rather surprised by the small seating area when we arrived but when our fish platter was served by one of the friendly staff, his concerns disappeared!

So amazing, I don't want to share this! A tiny, hidden pearl of a place (I didn't want to over do it with a fishy plaice pun).

Visited with my husband on a recent trip to Ludlow. Had checked out restaurants and cafes and was hoping we’d be lucky to get a table here. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and hope to visit again in the near future. Many thanks.

How lucky Ludlow is to have such a wonderful fish shop. We were super lucky to get a seat in the small dining area and had smoked salmon and crab pate with crusty bread. The fish was so fresh. The team that run the fish house are really knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble. We returned the following day to collect a fish platter take away. If you go to Ludlow and you like fish, the Fish House is an absolute must. It’s only open for lunch, so get there early not to be disappointed.

Rather than have a meal at the Fish House, we bought one of their fish platters. The cost was about £30 (ours cost £28) and comprised dresses crab, prawns (various sizes) smoked/hot smoked salmon and smoked mackerel with a samphire garnish. All the fish was cooked and the platter made two meal for two over two days. Excellent value and the platters are prepared to order by very knowledgeable fishmongers. A great take way!

Popped in as was hoping to have lunch, but they aren't doing at the moment, hoping to begin soon. The array of fish was very good and looked so fresh, there was no smell of strong fish which is excellent. I bought 2 dressed crab for £12 to bring home, haven't opened yet but looks to be plenty of white meat.

The place to buy fresh fish in Ludlow. The staff are knowledgeable and offer great service. Be patient with the queue - it’s worth the wait.

We were delighted when we picked up our smoked fish and crab platters. We have never had such a fantastic selection, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Even the samphire was the best we have eaten. We rang Rachel first thing in the morning to order them (£25 each) and they were ready to pick up an hour later - the food highlight of our holiday.

Treated ourselves to a Crab Platter (take-Out only at present), what a delight! Everything really fresh and plenty of it. The team are welcoming and helpful and certainly know their fish! The quality of produce is extremely good, with such an array of fresh, cooked and smoked fish, this is a seafood lovers dream location. We'll be back !!

We treated ourselves to the £60 fish platter takeout on a weekend trip to Ludlow. It was excellent, high quality fish and sea food. We had three lunches from it, and would buy again.

2nd time of having a Seafood platter last time we ate in but due to circumstances this year we had a takeaway. I ordered it in advance and collected it yesterday and the quality and service was just as good.Would recommended this shop to anyone.and look forward to visiting again

We'd read about this place prior to visiting Ludlow for the weekend so had planned to have lunch there. However, when we arrived we were told as they had such small premises they could not allow people to dine in and meet social distancing guidelines. However, we were offered a lovely cold seafood platter for two at £25, which included fresh prawns, a dressed crab, tuna, and other smoked fishes. We were staying at local cabin in the Shropshire hills just outside of Ludlow, so took our lunch back there and thoroughly enjoyed eating in outside in the sunshine. It tasted so fresh and delicious. If we return we'll be sure to visit this place again.

Very helpful staff and a great selection of fish. We ordered some shellfish to take home with us and it was really nice. I can only comment on the actual fish shop. We didn't use the restaurant.

I have to say that I had to think long and hard about writting a review as it is such a unique place that you just want to be selfish and keep it all to yourself. The food was excellent - fresh - nicely presented - I would have no hesitation in recomending this. The only thing I would say is that you need to book well in advance .

Been for a lunch and had crab plate. Disappointed no oysters. Nice fresh fish and seafood with extra crevettes. Lovely bread and decent wine. Good bonne homie with neighbouring diners.

My wife and i(mainly wife) use the fish house daily,cant beat fresh fish and the staff are very welcoming,also is doggy friendly

It’s been a couple of years since we last visited the fish house. Although there was a mix up on our booking ( email) the staff were very accommodating and apologetic and soon found us a table. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly.. we also bought dressed crab to takeaway which was very reasonably priced.Now we live closer to Ludlow we will definitely be regulars.

This is a shop selling fresh fish but doubles as a very small restaurant . Beautifull fresh produce. So flavoursome. . Cosy..

Taking other TA reviewers advice we booked a table for a Wednesday lunch online with some trepidation. Fishmongers & online booking don't usually belong in same sentence but got very prompt confirmation. I already liked this place (no pun intended).We were warmly greeted, our table had my name on it, so far 10 out of 10, but would the fish be a let down, Ludlow's not exactly a seaside resort is it?The Fish House is in a small old quirky building & a little cramped but service was fast & efficient. We shared an assorted smoked fish platter, simply served with bread, butter & a little samphire, mayo & sweet chilli. WOW, it was good, great selection, great tastes & amazing value for what you get. Still full 7 hours later.Next table had a reporter & a photographer so go there now before they get published & the queue stretches even further outside.

We visited for lunch during a long weekend in Ludlow. We booked in advance which is recommended as place has small number of covers as it is primarily a fishmongers. Fish platter was delicious accompanied by a lovely bottle of wine. This is a great concept of mixing the restaurant with the shop and I would highly recommend visiting.

Have now visited twice and the sharing platters are model examples of the art. All the seafood is fresh and so tasty....great value

We were in Ludlow yesterday having one of our regular wanders around the beautiful town when we happened upon The Fish House. This little fishmongers with tables in a historic building had somehow escaped our notice before and looked inviting. Unfortunately it was also packed so we decided to come back later. On our return we were able to get a table and treated ourselves to the smoked fish platter, oysters and a glass of procesco. All were delicious. The oysters were excellent with lemon and shallot vinegar. The platter was huge including trout, salmon, prawns, langostine, crayfish served with a good basket of bread and butter plus mayo and hot sauce. This must be the very best way to spend a dark November lunchtime.

Popped in off the street and were served with a fabulous array of seafood, Delicious food in a fish shop = an honest and delightful offer.

Fish shop with a few tables that does fantastic plates and platters. What are brown shrimp? Fantastic is what they are. Not close to the sea however tastes like it is riught off the boat.

We didn’t eat here, but my husband and I bought some beautiful fish here whilst staying in Ludlow on holiday. There was a great choice of fish and the halibut we bought was second to none. The dressed crab from here was delicious and well presented. Something we’ve looked out for for ages is smoked cod’s roe and we were able to get some here, again delicious.

We both love fish and seafood and the last place we expected to discover an amazing fish restaurant was inland Shropshire. Actually a fish shop, this tiny place in the centre of town squeezes a few tables to serve lunch, which means you should book if possible. We shared the crab platter and a half dozen oysters which was all fresh and top class, together with a reasonably priced glass of wine. This place is truly a rare find and enjoy it if you can.

The restaurant serves a fish platter whose equal I don’t know. £60 for 4 people: lobster, crayfish, salmon, crab, prawns,mackerel, etc, etc. Absolutely charming service, good wines at fair prices. OK, it’s a bit cramped in what is really a fishmonger’s shop, but that only enhances the atmosphere. It’s a great lunchtime treat.

We had a fantastic lunch here recently. They had a mixed shell fish special which was delicious. We had oysters, dressed crab, prawns, and lobster with artisan bread, with a side of smoked sea bass, excellent. There is indoor and out side seating, with table service. I'm not sure if dogs are allowed inside but outside for sure. Great value, cant wait to return. They also sell fresh fish, of which they have a large selection.

This is a fishmonger’s shop with a few tables inside and out, do not expect a restaurant. When we visited on a Friday afternoon it was very busy, both with diners and customers. The fish platter we had was excellent an opportunity to taste all types of sea food that maybe you wouldn't get around to trying either due to cost or availability. It was indeed an experience we will cherish for years to come and will certainly return, it was £60.00 for the platter but the old adage you get what you pay for is indeed true in this case.

We bought fresh fish the day before for a fish pie, then went back the next day as we realised they had tables ams served food as well. We chose the sharing shell fish platter. Can't believe how they did all that for just £25!! Crab, king prawns, prawns, shrimp, crayfish, smoked salmon, smoked trout, smoked mackerel, all really fresh and tasty. Fantastic. Thank you.

What a fantastic find!! If you love seafood then you must visit The Fish House. It might be small with only seating for 10 people maximum but it is a must visit whilst in Ludlow. Our favourites were the smoked salmon, smoked Mackerel and the prawns. Everything was so tasty and the bread was a nice touch.

We just walked past and popped in to have a look. Managed to get a table - it was very busy had the crab platter which was wonderful. Great bread to go with it and all together a scrumptious lunch. Make sure you visit. Waitress and staff very friendly.

Just happened to see this place on our walk into Ludlow and decided to try it for a late light lunch.

We went to this restaurant last week and had a great fish platter, which was reasonably priced. The quality of the fish was as good as we have had anywhere in the world. The service is good, although the waitress seemed a little stressed at times.

Simply the Best! The title of this review sounds more like a song from the Tina Turner album. The fact is that having eaten in a lot of seafood outlets over the years I am very happy to give this fishmonger, seafood bar and restaurant my highest rating. Living on the Kent coast near Whitstable I had not expected to find such a delight in landlocked Shropshire.

As soon as I saw this place I knew it was going to be good and we weren’t disappointed! It is only small but that’s part of the charm...people coming in and purchasing their fish as you enjoy oysters and shellfish with a good bottle of vino - total perfection! Great fish platters in small restaurant. Platters look and are great and very reasonably priced as is the drinks menu. A must if you appreciate fresh fish perfectly presented. They were happy to adapt the sharing platter to serve one and you can buy fish to take home.

The Fish House was recommended to us. The concept here is a small fresh fish counter that incorporates an extensive variety of shell fish along with hot and cold smoked salmon ,trout and mackerel .

This place is perfect. It is a fishmonger with a few tables serving the fresh fish on platters that they sell over the counter. There's no deceit, no staff tugging forelocks, no atmosphere of grandiloquent luxury. It is fish served honestly and proudly. The fish is the star, not the process by which it lands on your plate or the name in the kitchen.

We were passing and this tiny restaurant in a good quality fishmonger took our fancy. With 10 customers in is full. Friendly service, we had the mussels which was delicious, couple on next table had the seafood platter which looked amazing. One regular came in to buy some fish and enjoyed a glass of wine whilst doing so. Menu is small but if you enjoy seafood then this is a good quirky option, we would certainly go back.

This is not so much a restaurant as a fishmongers serving food. It works ! Surrounded by locals purchasing their fresh fish we sat and enjoyed beautifully prepared lobster, crab, oysters, smoked salmon, prawns and fresh samphire all washed down with wonderful Sauvignon Blanc and Prosecco. Don't expect a restaurant ... expect delicious fish in a lovely, intimate atmosphere of a wonderful fishmongers.... and it won't break the bank !

Visited here 2 weeks ago. We ordered the Sicilian fish soup followed by Lobster, crab, fresh oysters and smoked trout. Everything was delicious and served with Samphire and lots of brown bread and butter. I dont understand a previous reviewers comments about the portion size as me and my husband and son struggled to finish ours. Great value and I woulds especially recommend the oysters. You need to book in advance as all of the tables are always reserved - we have been here twice before. The only reason I haven't rated 5 stars is that the toilet facilities are in the Olive Tree cafe just nearby, not a huge problem, but on the day we were there it was raining so that wasn't ideal

We really enjoyed a shared seafood platter at lunch time with a glass of delicious wine. We sat up at the window bar and watched the world go by. The place is tiny, mostly a fishmongers, with a couple of tables, the window bar with stools, and two tables on the pavement. The owner was very knowledgeable about his wares and our waitress was welcoming and helpful.

Visited here last week when staying at Henlle Hall Lodges, it was our second visit of the year! WoW WOW!

My husband and I had a late lunch here, sitting outside on the bench seats. We shared a crab platter which was plenty big enough. It had crevettes, crab, hot smoked salmon, smoked salmon prawns, and more. The fresh bread that went with it was great too.

My mum and I have been here a few times and we are never disappointed with the food. We order the smoked fish platter, which is amazing. The food is so fresh and the fish is so tender. Even though the place itself is quite small this adds to the quaint atmosphere, be sure to get there in good time as it gets very busy. The only criticism i would make is there used to be outside seating and last time we went there was not, it would be nice to have the seating back so everyone can enjoy the fish in the sun. The service is brilliant, friendly, attentive and they know all about the dishes they serve.

The Fish House is bang in the centre of Ludlow. It is a small venue and there's an element of pot luck in getting a table. Gladly we did manage, shortly before the end of the 3pm session.

What a great place to have lunch. Came on a visit from the big smoke and popped in for a late Birthday treat. Well worth it!! We had the crab platter and a bottle of Poully-Fuissé and I'm refusing to leave. Best place in Ludlow. Mum had to throw in the Whitby lobster which was delightful. We recently bought the so-called platter for 3 people from here to take home and we were still eating it three days later! We got at least 10 meals out of it. Super value and super tasty!

A tiny restaurant, currently with only 4 tables and a sit up bar (and the tables are tiny as well). However, the seafood is out of this world and very reasonably priced. 3 of us had a crab platter and a smoked fish platter (each recommended for 2 people) and yes, we struggled to finish it. So many fish restaurants give such tiny portions you need to over order, but this is definitely not the case here.

Simply could not fault the lunch my girlfriend and I had at the Fish House in Ludlow a couple of days ago. The friendly and knowledgable staff served us a sensational seafood platter. Along with some lovely bread and a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, it was a meal fit for a King.

Walked past an unassuming fishmonger, noticed some animated people perched next to the counter tucking into wonderful seafood platters. Ordered crab platter for two and were transported straight to heaven - Cromer crab, hot smoked salmon, shell on and off prawns and crayfish with hunks of fresh bread and butter all complimented with chilled Chenin Blanc. Took what we couldn’t finish home together with a dressed lobster. We will be back.

Friendly, knowledgeable people run this lovely shop where you can buy all things fishy to take home and cook - and their oysters are delicious - served in the shop with a glass of something chilled and sparkling!

We stopped here for an impromptu lunch and were delighted by the enormous, sparklingly fresh crab platter, with as much bread, butter, mayonnaise and clilli dip as one might wish for. For £25 for two, this was great value. The Fish House is also a jolly spot from which to watch the world go by on a sunny day

First bit of advice is to get here early as there are only 4 tables, we hadn't made a reservation and there was only 1 table not reserved. So felt lucky to have that one. We wanted 2 halves of lobster, a dish of brown shrimps washed down with a glass of Muscadet each. We were asked to choose our lobster with a lot of help from the fishmonger. We were very pleased with all the food which came with samphire and bread. If we revisited Ludlow we would certainly return here to eat.

I used to pop in regularly for fresh fish but I've been living away from Ludlow for a few months. Came back to find all the old staff have been replaced and the usual friendly service gone with them. Still I had my previous usual. Unwrapping my salmon fillet at home I couldn't help but notice it was a much paler colour than the piece I had requested. Once it had been cooked it tasted sour and unpleasant so it went in the bin. Such a shame but I think I'll not be going back in the future.

Our third visit, and a trip to Ludlow would not be complete without a lunch here. Again we had the fish platter and again it was superb. Huge amounts of fish and seafood, there were 3 of us and we could have easily fed another 2. Freshly prepared, simply served with lemon and sapphire, bread and butter, and a white wine to round it off, unbeatable.

On our first attempt all the tables were full so we called back and got lucky (They don't reserve) We shared the fish platter for 4 with some oysters to start - all fantastic! Couple of bottles of wine to go with it made for a lovely leisurely lunch with friends. Didn't see much of the town afterwards! Friendly helpful staff - the real deal.

My family and I have been coming here since it opened and up until our recent visit it has been perfect. Until now.... we arrived to find a whole new staff team, nothing wrong with that may I point out but after years of the same friendly faces we ask where the other staff had gone to be abruptly told ‘they aren’t here’ we continued to ask a couple of questions about the subject but got one word answers and after that we gave up. Service then was odd almost like we weren’t meant to ask about the previous staff, so we ordered our usual crab platter and wine, crab platter had less seafood and variety on it, not what we’ve been used too, the wine was ok but sadly not cold enough also the normal jolly atmosphere had gone. But as the old saying goes.... ‘all good things must come to an end’ and this sadly has.

Small fish shop with a few tables. The staff were all lovely. We arrived at 4.10pm and they were supposed to be closed but we had the most delicious oysters with shallot vinegar and lovely cold crisp wine. Strongly recommend a visit if you like fish.

But not at all a high street chippy with seating, decor is plain and simple but all fish courses of an excellent standard. Most enjoyed a hasty lunch and will certainly check back for a full evening meal.

Was looking forward to lunch at the fish house after eating there several times before, but there were no tables available as 2 were reserved this is disappointing for lunch time as often a short visit only is needed. So we could not enjoy an Arbroath smoky as usual.

Lovely, particularly the Lobster Thermidor but the Seafood Linguine was tasteless and over cooked. It needed a thicker sauce and pasta with a little texture. The prawns were also over cooked.

I was unable to visit The Fish House but my wife did bring the food to me!

Had a fish lunch here with my wife : wonderful selection of fresh " fishy options" . David is the Chef and he piles on the delights for Habeeb to deliver to the guests.All is delivered to a stylish little corner of the shop : one is cozily close to the other diners , so one might have to whisper to ones wife . For a lunch with a difference this is a good choice . One can then go off and enjoy the medieval castle.

I had read the reviews and had high expectations for the food and dining experience.

Shared an absolutely lovely crab seafood platter, very generous platter beautifully presented. Smoked salmon, huge yummy mackerel, crayfish, 3 types of prawns and the best dressed divine crab with samphire. Bread not butter....perfect lunch meal to share...must try. We will return and try the lobster platter soon. Lovely friendly staff. Also fantastic selection at the fish counter.

We love coming here but preferred it when you stuck to the shell fish platters which are still available by day, but not at night.

We were booked in for a meal last Saturday at 8pm. Unfortunately when we walked down from our hotel they had decided to already close for the night. To say we were a bit disappointed would be an understatement. My phone number was left at the time of the booking so no idea why they didn't phone is too let us know. I'm sure the food is lovely, but judging by my experience the communication needs working on! Shame really, we missed out on a fish dinner and it was our first night away from the kids in 12 months. These things happen and fortunately we were able to get something to eat at our hotel, which as it was Saturday night was quite lucky in Ludlow!

Visited Ludlow last week for the first time in a couple of years and keen to revisit The Fish House where we had previously enjoyed some of the best seafood we've found in the U.K. Delighted to see it is now open on an evening it was a must do for our weekend.

We have long been a customer of their excellent fresh fish so thought we should try their evening restaurant menu. What a lovely experience!! With such limited space it was amazing that they could provide such excellent food and service as well as creating a great ambience. Book early as this is going to become very busy, we will certainly be back.

I have been fortunate to have worked all over the world & had the opportunity to sample Crab in Alaska, Lobster in Maine, Mahi Mahi in Mexico & Salmon in British Columbia but I have always struggled to find a good sustainable seafood restaurant back home. Tonight I found it. If you are looking for an intimate dining experience (Book Early), with friendly service & wonderful seafood dishes that change depending on ingredient availability then make the time to visit the Fish House.

Highly recommended, best restaurant experience in Ludlow. You would not get the intimacy, quality or friendliness anywhere else. The food quality is phenomenal and so fresh. We were a group of 8 but still received high quality food & service. You must try the Fish House. They even made a special Birthday cake. Out of this world.

OH NO... This is unlike me to leave a negative review, as I believe in speaking with my feet and not returning to a place if I find it to be substandard. On this occasion however I find it necessary as I believe your great reputation is questionable and you do not do what it says on the tin...... My husband and I thought we were about to embark on a gastro delight of seafood and fresh fish however we were presented with a menu of very meagre offerings..... During the day when we passed by there was an abundance of fresh fish and seafood on the wet fish counter so why oh why was there only 4/5 starters to choose from. Where are the seafood platters which are pictured on your review, where were the fresh oysters, dressed crabs, lobsters???? For the main courses where is the baked fish, the Plaice the Salmon the Cod and the Haddock. The Chenin Blanc was good, the guy serving was polite and friendly but to say we left dissatisfied and disappointed is an understatement.

We have eaten here before but this time it was just to buy some halibut and samphire. I did think of popping in at the end of the day just before going home. However, I bought the stuff and they were happy to keep it in a fridge for me till I was ready to go home. Indeed, by the time I went to pick the fish and samphire up all the halibut had been sold. Quality stuff here.
