Cottam's Fish And Chips in Shropshire

Food is good, but becoming not worth the price. They seem to have a price increase monthly. £3.50 for a small chips is ridiculous & £8.50 for a kebab or fish wow! Portion size is also very hit and miss depending on who serves you. I think as they know the town doesn’t have much choice in to pay these prices they can get away with it. Also cash only can be abit of a ball ache as we often don’t carry cash. It’s a shame all this is putting me off from going there.

Me and my partner have been going to this chippy for a while every so often and let say this they always been awesome the chips are spot on the large fish is amazing as well and my chicken kebab and salad never lets me down (thanks for the extra chicken) overall amazing chip shop. I was the one who was wearing a old blue arsenal shirt :)

I was very very disappointed with being charged £8.50 for a mini fish and chip meal.The price was advertised £7.00 in the shop.I was asked if I wanted it in a box or individually wrapped.I went for for individually wrapped, when I questioned the price,I was told it was because I wanted it wrapped individually.So thats £1.50 for 2 sheets of paper and a small container for the peas. Instead of a large polystyrene box ????

Decent portion of fish and chips which were freshly cooked whilst we waited. Plenty of people were there getting something to eat which is a good sign. Very nice!

Great fish and chips place with reasonable prices but excellently cooked large fish portions. The chips we always go for the small option as there's plenty for two. Highly recommended!

Use this chip shop for convenience due to time between after school activities. But many times my order is wrong and tonight just tops it off. Asked for chicken and chips and ended up with chicken kebab meat and chips which I absolutely loathe. As I pick up the order and go home didn’t find out till I got home which is even more upsetting as I don’t live near the shop.

Nicely set out chip shop, looks clean inside which is always a good thing. Ordered fish and chips with mushy peas, which is quite a bit more than what I pay for the size, but maybe it's because of the location. The portion size was a little on the small side but adequate enough. Both the fish and chips tasted decent, with my only gripe being the chips were a little too greasy which affected me during the evening. I noticed I got charged an extra 50p, which after investigation, was for the peas being put in a pot. Now, I don't mind this, but it would be nice to be informed beforehand rather than wondering why you have been charged extra. All in all, decent.

"cash only" in 2023! Haven't carried cash since 2009, haven't carried a debit/credit card for 3 years - mobile only. By default that makes them closed to me, I'm not in the habit of running to a "cash" machine for businesses like this.

Best chip shop in Shifnal. The premises are clean and well run. The staff are friendly and polite. There's a good choice menu. It's often busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, but worth the all wait.

First time visitor today (from out of the village).. (Very tall bloke with a Jamaican Tshirt?!)..mixed chicken meat and chips ordered, plus an extra large portion of the mixed chicken meats as it was cut directly from the upright.. the meat looked delicious and blew my taste buds off the scale. Stunning taste to what was purchased and super-fresh and juicy. I now have a decent local chippy which is worth travelling to from Cosford. 7 stars out of 5, if that's possible. Fish and chips was good but £7 fish? £3 small chips? I reckon that's A LOT. I also don't like the recent tendency of takeaways to be "cash only"..

Disappointed really, after asking if they accepted card payments and being told yes my order was taken, only to be informed payment was cash only but could use the cash machine that was within the premises, which may have been free withdrawal but didn't appear to be but didn't take the time to look. I politely declined and left, I don't envisage a return in the near future, although previous visits were very good with no complaints. I realise it appears to be petty, but if I'd have been told when I'd first enquired, then it would have been a totally different experience.

Always really good fish and chips, fish lovely white and chunky with a really crisp batter been coming here since we moved to Shifnal 7 years ago in fact we had them the first night we moved here with champagne! Never been disappointed always excellent. Also really nice helpful friendly staff.

Hubby grabs food every Tuesday and we’ve never had a bad meal, great chat and good food. I love the scallops as a treat.

Top notch chippy, fish is fresh and cooked perfectly, the chicken tikka kebab is excellent, doner is average but still ok. Highly recommended

Since we moved here 6 years ago we have been coming here, the fish is always lovely big chunks of white fish the batter crispy with really good hot chips, staff always helpful and friendly but tonight's was exceptional, thank you

Brilliant chip shop, quality food, large portions, great value for money and friendly staff. Can highly recommend visiting here. The fish is beautiful, batter not soggy and greasy, just lovely and crispy and delicious white fish. The mixed meat kebabs are huge but absolutely scrumptious. The gravy is a huge must too.

Great Takeaway, friendly staff

Fish and chips for me is once a year... But I find this one my regular. It has good service and its very clean. I do sometimes find batter in my chips, I find that really annoying!! Here they also have no consistency with sizes of the extras like gravy, mushy peas etc. Even when I stipulate 'large' or 'small' it seems pot luck what you walk away with. Overall a great local chippy. Cottams please stop putting battered foods in the chip fryer or the chip serving draw!

I came here maybe 10 times in past 10 years because i live 100miles away but visit this areanonce a year and it is always top notch fish and chips and we look fwd to it. Never had a bad one Same again next week

The fish and chips were excellent and reasonably priced. We visited twice and were able to eat them outdoors at picnic tables about a mile away.

I was just passing through Shifnal and found myself to be peckish for chips. After seeing Cottams Fish & Chip shop I knew I had to try their food. I decided to get a large Fish and Chips and the chips were amazing but the Fish was honestly the best fish I have every tried ANYWHERE in my entire life. I had to also sample some of their Chicken and Kebab, both of which were also 10/10. I would definitely recommend this chippy to everyone! I will be coming back for more. If only I lived closer to it.

We always go to this chippy when visiting in-laws, the staff are so lovely especially the husband and wife, very chatty and amiable.The food is lovely, especially the cod and chips, plus the mushy peas and curry sauce are great value.

Having visited this establishment over the last 18 months, i have always found the staff to be friendly and efficient and the food quality has always been of a consistent standard.

Cottams is my local Fish n Chip shop and as been since my school days. Over the years in has changed hands a number of times but the quality and size portions have always remain to a great standard.

This popular chippy is in the main street of the town so there’s on street parking nearby and car parks a little further away. The chips are good as are the jumbo battered sausages. They also do kebab meat if you fancy something different. Only disappointment is that they don’t do chicken curry pies.

Good fish&chips. Large fish was a bit thin. Mixed kebab meat and chips was lovely. Plenty of it. We'll go back.

Excellent service, lovely clean shop. Only reason not a full 5*is because the large fish might have been long, but it wasn't very wide. Chip portions are large as is the kebab meat with chips and salad.

Superb food, would highly recommended a visit

Someone recently said, 'it's a chippy'. Quite right, but without doubt, the best chippy in Shifnal. Their kebabs put the other chippy to shame. In fact, all their food I have ever had has been first class. Their portions have varied at times, but, for a while, seem to have been back to their best. Prices, as with everywhere I suppose, have crept up and it is no longer a cheap option, but is very good.

Quality not the same. Chicken kebab really fatty and hubby’s fish was tiny for the amount charged. Will cook myself next time as cannot justify the prices for the poor quality.

Lovely chips, good value for money, pleasant staff

This traditional chip shop is very popular in the town which means that the food is usually freshly cooked. There's a decent choice of fish, pies and all the usual accompaniments plus kebabs. Service is pretty quick even if there's a queue. There's on street parking right outside and public car parks a short walk away.

Small portion very dry, not very pleasant

Best "plaice" for fish and chips.

We've been to all of the Fish and Chip shops in Shifnal and Cottams is, in our opinion, the best. Good portions, not too greasy, great taste.
