Nice enough pub, but we were the only people in there on a Thursday evening, so no atmosphere really. It has great potential, just needs bums on seats. Seems like a good pub to stop off on your way home from work.

Proper old fashioned pub. Salopian beer kept to perfection and given that there was initially standing room only suggests the other drinkers agree. Powell's pork pies served with pickle or mustard (or both) are a delight, possibly better than Paddy Ryan's? Try one yourself!

Great food, portions just right, staff very helpful. Recommend the menu. Cater a few main meals for vegetarians. Nice environment and atmosphere. Menu gives enough choice but not overwhelming. Offer small portions too as well as standard portions and kids menu options. Good choice of background music and not too loud. Had minor problem with one of our drinks and staff sorted it quickly and without question. Prices good....about £9 to £10 per main meal and worth it. Puddings £5 to £6. Drinks/alcohol not too expensive either. TV with clips from Red Bull sporting action (quite interesting even for those not into sports like paragliding, BMX etc) plus pop up general knowledge trivia questions. Good to sit and watch on your own in the corner, or as a talking point for a meal.

Decided to give the pub a visit on a Saturday lunchtime after it has had a recent change of management.Called ahead to see if serving food. The bar person was polite and friendly on the phone. Always a good start! So full of anticipation we went along. Ordered two real ales, one was very cloudy with an unusual aroma so sent that back and it was replaced with a much better pint no problems. The menu was limited choice and we were told that some items were not available. That said the bar person explained that a new menu starts next month and the landlord was in the kitchen and doing the cooking. So we made our choices. Seemingly the kitchen was running low on stock as portion sizes were very small for the costs. (Looked like starters ) Ordered Mac and cheese with “extra chicken” that should have had salad and garlic bread but the reality was a small dish of Mac with a piece of over fried, dry chicken ontop. Two slices of tomato and a tablespoon of shredded lettuce (not a side salad , merely garnish ) and two slices cut off a baguette with butter and garlic seasoning on 😞 did speak to the bar person about it but nothing further happened. The other dish was worse. Loaded fries?? Definitely not loaded. A sprinkle of grated cheese, some bits of greasy “pulled pork bits” and a piece of over fried and very dry chicken all in a cereal sized bowl. Nobody else in the pub at this point. No atmosphere. Saw the landlord who didn’t acknowledge us as he came to check the fire, which we were sat near. Decided to go once we’d finished our drinks. Didn’t feel like staying and longer than necessary. Unfortunately the opportunity to make a good first impression has been lost. Left the pub feeling ripped off.

This is a much improved local pub with good food and friendly service, under new management I had a nice gammon and chips and peas, a crumble, and a large coke for £11.05. At this point in time, that's an incredible bargain! It's neat and tidy, has a pleasant garden, and a good selection of light bites and a main menu, both available lunchtime and for dinner. Support this small pub, especially if you are a local! You will be pleasantly surprised!

An awful visit to this pub yesterday. It was my birthday and I had a list of recommended restaurants and pubs, this pub was near to our location and the google reviews looked decent so we thought we’d try it. Unfortunately the Three Fishes pub I’d been recommended was not this one, it was in fact one in the town centre, I didn’t realise there were two! We walked into the pub and there was a guy cleaning out the chimney which was very noisy. There was no one else in the pub apart from us. We asked if they were serving food and told they were. We sat the other side of the pub away from the chimney cleaner but it was still very noisy. We ordered hot food which took an hour to be served. At this point we were already wanting to leave. There was an odd smell in the pub, not very pleasant. The food arrived eventually. The person who served us did apologise for the delay as there was a new chef and there’d been issues in the kitchen. My parents both ordered the chicken parmo. The tomato sauce was cold and the dish looked very unappetising. They picked at what they could and left most of it. My husband’s burger was supposed to have pulled pork and nacho cheese on it, he couldn’t see any pork and here was a tiny amount of cheese. We’d had enough so we went to leave, we couldn’t get out of there quick enough. We went to settle up and I said how disappointed we were with the food and the person behind the bar just said sorry and continued to charge us the full amount, with no offer of compensation. A very disappointing end to my birthday trip to Shrewsbury. I do not recommend.

I booked in here for a sunday roast (after having been somewhat disappointed with the Beeches) and was hugely impressed. We had a table to the right of the bar in the small dining area (which can get quite loud with its small size and sound echos). I went for one of their standard roast dinners, opting just for the smaller plate rather than the larger one - and the amount was HUGE, representing great value for money, pretty comprehensive with roast plus mashed potato, five veg and yorkshire pud - they'd still managed to cram a large amount onto such a small plate! This is some GREAT home-cooked food and represented great value for money, nice beers, relaxing afternoon - will do this again some time!

My husband and I had been Attingham Park fur the, so we could meet sister a d her family for the first time in 18 months…the Three Fishes was the perfect end to a perfect day, so I’m incredibly grateful. We had three small children with us and we needed to eat before we went our separate ways. We called them to ask if there was any way they could fit us in and that’s when we had our first encounter with the nicest and most helpful Landlord/Gentleman I think I’ve ever come across! He was so accommodating, pleasant, helpful and smiley, we all felt welcomed like we had been going there for years. The food is good pub grub - exactly as it should be. An excellent choice and very reasonably priced too. We sat in the beer garden which was lovely. All the staff we came across could not do more to help us or to make us feel welcome. The local customers were also really friendly too. We often pass this way on our travels, so it won’t be our only visit… plus, I can’t stop thing about those chips! ;-)

I've never heard of a pub called the Three Fishes so didn't expect there to be two of them in the same town! We read the great reviews of the other Three Fishes, Googled three fishes Shrewsbury and ended up booking a table here at a completely different pub. More a locals pub than for tourists, but we received a fantastic friendly welcome from the owners, these guys are really nice people. The real ale was top notch, the best I had on our 5 day tour of Shropshire.Food wise it is pretty standard pub grub menu and very reasonably priced. The food was well cooked, great chips, and the burger with black pudding and Shropshire Blue cheese was inspired. However, my wife had the fish and chips which used one of those weird fish you have never heard of (Bahia?) which is a poor replacement for cod. I enjoyed mine but the burgers were also not top quality. I can see why they might want to keep prices down, but I would much rather have paid £12.95 for cod and chips than £10.95 for Bahia. If you are going to do such a good job of cooking the food you might as well use good quality ingredients.Lovely people though and lovely beer. we were not unhappy we ended up at the wrong Three Fishes.

I have been going to this chip shop my whole life so 44 years and I have never in that time found another chip shop that can hold a candle to the Monkmoor Fish Bar. The chips are cooked to order which means they are always amazing and personal I love the cheese and onion fry it. I live in Sydney now, but always make sure to return for a chip dinner whenever I’m in Shrewsbury and I’m always happy to see the same people who have owned it there after all these years, just as friendly as they have always been. This isn’t just the best chip shop in Shrewsbury, it’s the best chip shop full stop and is a proper Shrewsbury institution.
