First time here for dinner and it was great. Food very nice, reasonably priced, the pigs cheeks and belly pork served with this lovely saucy stuff was delicious. Everything was nice. Lovely location, pretty village pub very nice interior. But most of all, what makes it great are the owners. They are fantastic and we certainly didn’t feel like unwanted out of towners- though we only 25 mins away- they really are a very welcoming couple. Great customer service. Very friendly- even our dogs got a treat! Thanks for a lovely evening!

This pub has had a lot of improvements made since our last visit. We booked Sunday lunch after a friend recommended it to us . Certainly not disappointed, good selection of akes and cider, and the lunch was good too. Selection of three meats and fresh cooked veg. Puds good too. Would we go again? Definitely. We visited The Fighting Cocks for the first time. A warm welcome from Hannah and Darren, to their village pub set in peaceful countryside nestled between Bewdley, Bridgnorth and Ludlow Shropshire. The food was great, good value and very generously served. I missed out on Steak and Ale Pie, which had sold out - had the Cod and Chips instead, which was delicious!

Terrible evening spoilt by continue disgusting language of three mature men in the bar area. My Wife and I had hoped to enjoy an evening meal in this cosy pub. The service was slow and the young staff seemed at their wits end plus there was no senior person present to deal with the rowdy and foul mouthed men who from their shouting, bad language and familiarity with the staff appeared to be regulars. They spoilt the whole evening for us. Service was slow and when our meals finally arrived they were definitely not up to the usual standard. I paid the bill and politely asked a young lady who was in charge she said she was and I duly explained our situation she said she was sorry but she had been left in charge as the owner had gone to visit friends. My wife and I pointed out that there was a table of several young men enjoying a quiet drink and their behaviour was exemplary and set a fine example to the rowdy more mature men. The young lady said she was sorry that our evening was spoilt but there was nothing else she could do.

We have been a few times to the Cock, off the beaten path but worth the effort. It is a comfy old fashioned slightly shabby pub with separate rooms and welcoming open fire in the bar - don't go if you like slick re furbished pubs. There is an attached cafe and shop which is open during the day. The menu is varied and there is always a good selection of 'specials '. All home cooked food so don't expect swift service. The pies are particularly good. Prices are very reasonable. We have also been for lunch, the ploughmans are huge. Real ales served. Service is good.

Did some extensive research looking for a local country pub for a Friday night meal with my wife and my mum for her birthday - Came across this pub and their website really attracted us to come here...........and we weren't disappointed!Firstly the ability to book a table 'online' is a massive plus. Had to wait a couple of hours for the confirmation to come through but all worked fine and when we turned up, they were expecting us!From the outside, the pub doesn't look particularly pleasing on the eye - It looks like a very plain bland house! But inside, it's a little gem. Large spacious car park at rear of the pub and then you walk back along the track entering the pub through the 'bar' sign leading you into a forecourt type area (where the toilets are). We headed into the bar and for a Friday night, alot of locals lurking around the bar but no attitude or staring from anyone and we managed to get ourselves 'booked' in quickly and the waitress/bar man were welcoming/friendly. Taken to our table with menus. All good.Good choice of 'pub grub' food - I had the faggotts and it was wonderful. My mum had seabass and my wife a burger. All well cooked, well prepared, decent sizes as were the starters. The time between ordering and food arriving was just right and all staff quite happy to top our glasses up on request as well. 3 real ales on the bar too, only managed to try one because of driving but it was a very well kept half pint! The restaurant eating area is elevated away from the main bar area and was full on the night we visited so definitely recommend booking in advance via their website. There was some light music in the background and all in all, a very pleasant ambience.Obligatory toilet inspection made at the end of the night - Fairly basic facilities but well maintained/clean - It wasn't the Ritz Hotel but no hygiene issues at all.All in all, a very successful night considering we chose this on 'whim' from their excellent website - Easy to find too if your coming from the Cleobury Mortimer direction and can't recommend this place enough for a visit for a family or couples meal. You won't be disappointed if you want a decent priced pub meal, in a decent atmosphere in a countryside surround.

While traveling around the back roads of Shropshire we found this really nice old public house and stopped in for lunch we were greeted by a very friendly and possibly the best looking landlady in the midlands and serving some very fine ales and a good selection of meals try the steak and Stilton pie mmmm, all served in very pleasant and relaxing surroundings, this public house has an unusual feature of a small general grocery shop in the rear of the building, this location would be a great stopping point for the rambling and cycling community. And well worth a visit for all.

Today Tuesday 26 February as we were staying a few miles away and it is such a glorious sunny day we would do a long walk with a pub lunch half way through. We checked The Fighting Cocks website and it said it was open and serving lunch between noon and 2.30pm. We arrived at the pub around 12.50pm and found it closed. At the side of the pub they operate a shop which was open, I went in and asked if the pub was closed, the surly shop assistant said it was, but only today. No apology, I said we had checked opening times and had walked a long way and perhaps they should publicise such closures. She said "i just work here, we are closing the shop now" and walked into the back area. Other people were arriving and we had to tell them the pub was shut.

We've eaten here quite a few times and always had a good experience. But on this last visit, the "edge" seemed to have gone off the place. I don't like being talked down to by landlords, and that was not a good start - I suggested they might like to take orders for drinks once we were sat at the table and was met with "you'll need to come back down to the bar as I will have lots of others to serve". Well perhaps that was a "can't be bothered" response, as I think there were two others in the pub for the whole of our lunchtime visit.

The second time we were in one end of the bar and again the service and food were very good. It was steak night - Friday - with the cost of steaks reduced. Two of our steaks were not cooked how they would have ideally but acceptable to be eaten. Later the chef and manager apologised and gave us all a free drink to compensate.

Visited after a stay in the local area and left with a full stomach and a big smile :) the food wasn't your usual overpriced gastro -pub grub and was clearly cooked (lovingly) from scratch. Prices were a steal as the portions and ingredients used were huge and pleasantly fresh -especially the lovely, creamy mozzarella! As a vegetarian I felt a tad spoiled for choice, which was surprising considering the reputation of some pubs for serving the same boring options for folk like me (no halloumi here - thank goodness..!) Service was friendly and very polite, especially our hosts who made us feel right at home. I recommend the puddings too, especially the bread and butter one, but I'm also told that the chocolate 'slump' is just as delicious. Overall, a pleasant and awesome little surprise!

The Fighting Cocks is not an obvious pub to pop in to and is not on the beaten path- which is actually one of its many many charms.I cannot remember the last time I went into a pub, received a warmer welcome and felt so at home. The children were happy as they played a game without being told to be quiet, there were brilliant ales on offer and a huge selection of gins for the juniper lovers. However, what I wasn't expecting was the superb food. Locally sources produce, vegetarian and vegan offers, curries with flavour (I usually only ever have a curry in Birmingham but the lentil and chick pea curry was superb), all delivered at the same time, piping hot and decent portions.Even though The Fighting Cocks is an hour's drive from where I live I will DEFINITELY be returning. New Years Day at the Fighting Cocks Stottesdon, although i would not recommend the venue to anyone we made the best of it, place was cold had to ask them to light the fire, so they did it under sufferance then opened a widow, they did not lay enough place settings for us all, even though we had to give them our food order over the phone prior to goings, so they clearly knew how many of us were going and they huffed and puffed about this. The beef came out cold, service was slow and the waiteress nearly scalded My Grandaughter with hot coffee, safe to say we will not be returning!!!!

Friendly and welcoming staff, who served a fantastic meal on Christmas Day, could not fault it. A log burning fire created a warming atmosphere, have eaten many meals here and every one has been amazing. Highly recommend.

Welcomed not only by the hosts to this lovely rural pub but by a roaring open fire which was an added bonus on a cool autumn day.We had been recommended to this pub for its excellent food and tasty real ales and we weren't disappointed. We sampled a few of the real ales which went down very well and were excellent. My partner knows a thing or two about real ales( he's drunk enough of them over the years)and said that they were of a very high standard, they were so nice he tried at least six I think. We both ordered the roast dinners from a very wide selection on the menu.I had the beef my partner had the lamb both were perfectly cooked my partners lamb was so tender he didn't need to cut it as it just fell apart. The selection of veg was good and again were delicious & beautifully cooked. The portions were adequately generous. We managed to just about squeeze in desert my partner had homemade bakewell tart which was very light and beautifully yummy and I had a chocolate & orange homemade desert with ice- cream which I can highly recommend. The landlady checked with us throughout the meal to check that everything was OK with the meal but our totally clean plates spoke for themselves. So if u want a fantastic meal at a great price, great drink & warm welcome at a beautiful homely pub then this should be a must in you diary. We can't wait to go back but with so much choice on the menu I think we could visit for the next few years without getting bored!

We've been here many times when the previous owners ran the pub. Since then, the place has had a make over, with more work still to be done. We were told than the chef was at a black tie ball and I jokingly asked , so who's in the kitchen? I was told that everything will be ok as there is only 8 diners......I won't comment on the three other dishes as my wife and our friends said their mains were OK. But sadly, my belly pork was severely overcooked and the crackling tasted like it had been crisped up in a fryer. It came with three clumps of lumpy mash which had no seasoning at all. The shared vegetables were fine.I'd ordered a large glass of Malbec which tasted off so I asked for a Merlot which was very drinkable. The stand in bar man apologised, said it was a fresh bottle, but that he didn't drink wine and so wasn't sure what was wrong. We shared a dessert and my wife chose the Sticky Toffee pudding. She is never one to complain, but even she found it to be as far removed from what we both know and enjoy. It came with a hard crust and was pale in colour. Our friends are regulars here and enjoy the food, and so maybe it was a blip as the team were away. But really, unseasoned lumpy mash is a real shame and to overcook the pork belly is not good. When we come back to visit our friends, no doubt we will return. I just hope the kitchen team are in town and I can enjoy a decent meal.

First visit to the Fighting Cocks got there early 12.15 which was lucky as this village pub is obviously very popular with the locals. We were greeted with a friendly smile very warm and welcoming. The menu was varied with a large choice. The food excellent well presented and reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive without being over bearing. My husband had the added bonus of HPA on draft. Would certainly pay another visit and recommend. If this was our local we'd be very happy people

A real gem of a find while holidaying in the area! Don't let the outside scaffolding put you off - the food, beer and welcome are all second to none! The landlady and her staff are all so lovely and welcoming, and the standard and variety of food on offer is some of the best we have had in a pub environment. It's also excellent value for money. We went once as a couple and enjoyed it so much, we took our son and his partner back the next night - they are both real 'foodies' (one is even a food scientist) and they thoroughly enjoyed everything they had. We understand the pub owners are fairly new, so we wish them well for the future. We only wish the Fighting Cocks was nearer to where we live so we could visit more often!

Very enjoyable Sunday afternoon. We all had starters which were excellent and we all had Sunday roast (lamb and beef) and we all enjoyed it. No room for sweets unfortunately but maybe next time. Owners and staff very pleasant and welcoming. Will go again. Outside dining available in the sunshine.

We were told about this pub by friends, our first visit was on a beautiful sunlit evening and we ate outside with fantastic sun setting view of the Clee Hills, the excellent food and marvellous hand cut chips were a delight, so much so we returned again mid week but to try out the extensive lunch time menu, We were not disappointed with the exception that the portions were so big that there was not room for one of the delicious sounding puddings. I can heartily recommend any of the pies especially the beef and stilton or the Lamb and mint, they really were succulent and a delight. A marvellous host and hostess made us really welcome and although early July the landlord switched on the heating as it was a particularly cool lunch time. Well worth setting the sat nav and going on an adventure o find this hidden gem.

This was our second visit in a couple of weeks , our first visit we did not book and they could not fit us in so we called last night .Food was very good not frozen processed chips lovely home made pie , the rest of our family were very happy . The price was very good and that's important it's so easy to up the price and it not fit what's on the plate. The pub has a pleasant atmosphere the new landlords seem to care and I think this pub will develop over the coming months . Only one very slight observation ! The staff and landlords seem very busy we had traveled half hour to visit and I felt a bit left out on conversation however on leaving I did have a chance to chat to one of the landlords it's minor thing but we run s family Buisness and customers need a little more time ! We will be back and tell all our friends !

What a warm welcome! Perfect beer and wine. From an extensive lunch time menu we chose the selection of fish, smoked salmon, mousse, prawns in sauce, fish gorgons in the lightest batter we have ever tasted, all beautifully served on a slate platter with brown bread and butter and home made tartare sauce, plus three times cooked chips. Mouth watering. Lemon posset and caramel cheesecake to follow. Apart from good food, we feel the main ingredient in this pub is the professional friendliness and welcome from the owners. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Fighting Cocks for a lovely lunch.Maureen and Bob BondChurch Stretton

The lovely atmosphere and warm welcome is not the only bonus when visiting this establishment. All, yes All! food is home made, and incredible value for money. A full board of the menu is on display together with prices and a lunch menu is on offer so no nasty surprises when the bill arrives. Nothing was to much trouble by these kind hosts. Heartily recommended but you may have to book first, do not be put off by the refurbishment taking place - well worth every £!

Visited today with hubby and dog Benson. We were all so welcomed by the lovely landlady and the pub collie Buddy. We only intended a couple of drinks, but it was so welcoming,we decided to stay for lunch. Both meals were hot and plentiful. ..the chef came out a couple of times and really made a fuss of Benson, which is always welcomed. We will definitely be returning very soon as Benson and Buddy played lovely together whilst we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of food and drink. Thanks very much Melissa,Steve and Benson xx

We have visited the Fighting Cocks many times as we live locally. However this was our first visit since the new owners took over.We were certainly not disappointed,a lovely menu and good to see that there was still a nice selection of home made pies available. The 4 of us all had a pie,1 of us having to change our order as they had run out of steak and Stilton, but the chicken and leek replacement was gorgeous.Lovely shortcrust pastry,(none of that flaky stuff which goes everywhere).A good selection of fresh vegetables(we asked for extra as we all love them and there was no problem).A selection of boiled potatoes and chips and hallelujah,"hot plates".I member of the party said the gravy with her steak and Stilton was a little salty but still cleared her plate!Beautiful homemade desserts, the dark chocolate and baileys cheesecake was to die for.We know that the new owners previously ran a B & B and they certainly know how to do things properly here.Good to hear that they are also baking for the shop attached to the pub, will be paying a visit to sample the pasties etc.We had a lovely evening and will certainly be back soon.Thanks.

We've lived near Stottesdon for nearly 13 years & have been coming to The Fighting Cocks for almost the same amount of time. The food is consistently excellent and we've tried quite a bit of the menu! The sharing fish platter is excellent as a starter. The curries, pies, roasts & steaks are amongst our favourite main courses (proper pie, none of this puff pastry rubbish, & proper chips!). Desserts are to die for especially the dark choc & Baileys cheesecake! All in all a fab country pub serving excellent local food with a warm welcome. We are so lucky to have The Cocks on our doorstep.

The first thing that struck us as we re-visited this lovely old inn - under new management - was that it was packed full of people enjoying a drink around the bar. The new owners had clearly made an impression, and we were looking forward to sampling Sunday lunch, having been a customer of the pub under Sandra's hard to beat regime for many years! The welcome was warm and friendly and we could see why the pub was so busy. The Sunday roast was truly lovely - plenty of tender roast lamb accompanied by the crunchiest roast potatoes. There was a wide choice of vegetables, but we agreed with our neighbouring table that there was not quite enough for all members of the party to have a spoonful each. However this is a minor criticism and shoud we have asked for more I do not think it would have been a problem!Puddings were equally as good. We sampled the Bakewell tart which was full of almond flavour, runny jam and soft sponge, fresh raspberries and a crunchy, nutty topping. The treacle tart was not over-sweet and had a citrus tang to it which we all sampled and thought that it was a really nice touch. The new people deserve to do well, and we thank them for the delicious lunch we had this Sunday! So please do try out this Shropshire delight, combine it with a walk around the paths and bridleways and you have a perfect day out. A real tonic!!

Great location but I wouldn't come again. If sleep is important to you, don't come. On account of this location it is very noisy until at least 2am with loud drunk people, acting up and being inconsiderate of others in the streets and in the building. It's probably fine if you're in your 20s and hammered drunk, but the days of mini-Magaluf are behind me and my wife. We got about 8 hours of very broken sleep all weekend (stayed 2 nights). Nearly went home on the first night, but decided to tough it out so we didn't completely waste our hard-earned cash. We were very grateful to get home for some sleep and away from the annoying idiots of the great British public.

Much Welnlock is such a beautiful place. This pub is right in the center, you might think "oh it going to be wack" but no! The perfect mix of country pub excellence with welcoming service. Wood fire? Yes! Fantastic steak pie? Yes! Wood beams hundreds of years old? Yes! Locals questioning your value because your from the county over (Staffordshire)? Yes! Top recommendation
