We went for Trust the Chef last night and it was so good. We all enjoyed every course- the brisket was delicious, the smoked butter extraordinarily good and the chocolate pudding divine. The chef is amazing. And the waitress was fabulous! Thankyou.

There aren't enough words in the world that describe how incredible the food is here. We chose the Trust The Chef experience and we were both blown away. I had the dairy and gluten free versions of the 3 mystery menu options to chose from and I did not want it to end. You really need to try it for yourself! Perfect way to celebrate our wedding day too. Heaven. We'll definitely be back and soon!! Thank you to the whole team!

In over 30 years of being vegetarians we have only once had an amazing dining experience, now we've had two. The food at The Fig Tree was exquisite, with flavours and courses we have never been offered before. We opted for the "Trust the chef" menu which allowed him to pick what we ate and were amazed at the blend of flavours and textures. An outstanding chef. Our lovely waitress was a delight too. Very attentive and keen to explain what ingredients were in each dish.

The quality of food served here was absolutely exceptional. The seasonal fig and damson cocktail alongside the home made focaccia were perfect to enjoy whilst looking over the menu. The smoked gurnard and lamb were delicious. My partner went for the John Dory which was cooked perfectly. As well as the food, the staff were extremely attentive. 100% worth making a point to dine in this lovely little place.

Thank you to The Fig Tree for an incredible birthday meal! John really added to the experience with a calm aura and a comical edge. I definitely had a figgin awesome birthday. The "trust the chef" meals were exquisite, each mouthful required savouring. Cooked to perfection, it prompted many interesting facial and vocal expressions! The meals were perfectly balanced in flavour, aroma and texture, paradisically finessed. You could taste the passion poured into the planning and preparation of each course. We will 100% be visiting again and again and again!

Very pleasant! Well patronized on the Wednesday night, always a good sign. Opted for the chef's menu as it was a 'trust the chef' menu with meat/fish/veggie options. Interesting, well prepared, well presented dishes. Friendly, informed service; at bit busy as the restaurant was full. A bit on the pricey side, but enjoyed the evening.

Went for lunch and were the only table booked in for the lunchtime session, always a little worrying. The menu wasn’t a lunch menu but more of an evening one and three courses would have been too much. There is an option for two courses for a fiver less but the menu is priced to push you to the three courses. The food is ok, clearly the chef wants to flex their culinary muscles but it’s a little pretentious and overpriced. I have no doubt that the Plymouth foodie brigade will pack this place out in the evening but they should definitely revise their lunchtime offering.

Fantastic place situated on a quiet street. Very friendly and fantastic service. Food just amazing. They do whats called Do you Trust the Chef. Tell them if you want Meat Veg or Fish and the Chef cooks something for you. I love this concept as I get overwhelmed with the amount of choices on a menu so this reduces my anxiety. After a few bites and guessing what it is you are told. I am so pleased we went and cant wait to return. Made dining out even more special.

We wanted to like the trust the chef approach and we did enjoy the starters, but were underwhelmed with the mains. We knew it wasn't going to me much portion wise, but thought it would have more to them for £16 a course. I appreciate fish is always expensive and it was beautifully cooked. But there wasn't much to it, with tomatoes and spinach. The small piece of lamb was nice, but the lentils were not up to much. Maybe it was just the dishes on the day.

This is our third visit in three years, somewhere we'd love to go more often but time gets away from us. To our advantage, that makes each visit special. The food has always been good, but tonight felt exceptional. Pulled lamb and pickled ginger arancini; skate papillotte with saag aloo; chocolate and almond brioche butter pudding. Every one of those dishes was superb. The arancini ball was a generous size with a good amount of pulled lamb, the skate was lovely but for me the saag aloo with pickled veg was sensational. As for the pudding...creme brulee-style crunch on the top took it to the next level. Then there's the staff...attentive but not constantly in your face, friendly but not overbearing, and just 'real'. We were having banter with a female server, who had us in stitches, we felt like we'd been her friend for years. We were also looked after by two male servers, who were just as lovely, we were a bit more gentle with them! The atmosphere is fine dining but relaxed, you're eating great food in a top-quality setting, without feeling like you don't belong. I wanted to give my review the lowest rating I could, just so that the less people who know about it, the better, but it's never quiet so people already know about this gem, and it would be selfish to hide something we don't get to as much as we'd like. Keep doing you Fig Tree @36, because it works. Thank you x

“Trust the Chef” is a must! Came with a dear friend and was completely enamoured with the location, the cute little outdoor seating area and the friendly family feel. We sat outside under the fig tree and enjoyed the company of Prince - the resident cat - whilst we delved into our surprise 3-course meal. And what a treat it was! “Trust the Chef” involves three courses of who knows what! All you have to stipulate is your preference of Veg, Fish or Meat and any essential dietary requirements. The lovely Hannah (Queen waitress) saw to our every need with exceptional customer service. Would absolutely recommend and should be much higher on the Top Restaurants list, in my opinion. Was a little disappointed by my most recent visit as have been before and was blown away then. We were seated in the back section which was cramped, brightly lit and had very loud music not suited to the restaurant. We did ask it to be turned down twice. I think largely the lack of atmosphere was my main issue. Food and service were both good but mostly we left feeling a little underwhelmed after looking forward to visiting so much.

What a little jem this restaurant is. We went for a wedding anniversary, and although not overtly romantic, we both enjoyed its ambience and cosy feel. We went for chefs choice and enjoyed fish and veggie starters. Both were a good size and perfectly prepared. Two meat mains - confit duck leg. Large duck legs again very well cooked and plenty of veg. We only had room for one pud, chocolate...amazing. Great staff who really added to our evening!

I dined for my 50th Birthday, I am a vegan and my parents are carnivores. There were 2 options on the menu for the main course and starter. I chose the hummus and toast for starter, which was basic, and celeriac risotto for my main. There were no rice grains in sight, just minute cubes of celeriac in what looked and tasted like dishwater with a light dusting of toasted flaked almonds and seeds. I could not eat the meal and the waitress asked if everything was OK and I stated it was bland, with a weird acidic gloopy sauce and inedible, she asked if I wanted anything else and I retorted what else can I have, is there anything else for me. To which she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. I ate half a folk full of food and nothing was mentioned when the plate was collected. Meanwhile, my mum had the belly pork, with a rosti which was so hard and dry it could be used as a deadly weapon. When asked the waiter if it was meant to be like this, he went to speak to the Chef and came back to the table and stated yes, then walked away. The service and food was hugely disappointing and I would not return. What a waste of 2hrs for 2 courses and sub par experience. I expected more!!! Thank you for you response, not the response I was expecting. I have worked in hospitality since I was 10 as my mother was a hotelier, and have been a vegan since I was 15. The front of house experience was completely accurate. The staff clearly cannot handle objections to the food which is a reflection on you as a chef and their training. Not even a discount, you would rather let an unhappy customer leave hungry and forced to write a bad review. Thank you for your time.

Visited on a busy Saturday evening. General impression is the restaurant is clean, well presented and evidently well liked for how many people were in the small dining area. A little noisy, particularly in the confined space beside the kitchen, when seated close beside a louder table. As the evening progressed, we felt quite cold - not sure if the heating was on? Service from the staff was outstanding, very friendly, polite, attentive, but food was slow to arrive. We were a little perplexed by having the appetiser on the table before our starter/main order had been taken, so having to work around still having the menus. The smoked butter was very strong - my partner liked it, it was too much for me. Both fish starters were good, with the mackerel our favourite. The main courses were OK. The lamb was fine, but served with lamb fat root veg meant the whole plate was very similar flavoured, and the green beans/salsa verde felt like an afterthought. The skate wing was nice, and the crispy capers were a new and pleasant experience. The desserts rescued the food for me - the creme brulée was outstanding, and the chocolate special was very good, with exception of a slightly chewy meringue. I feel I'm being picky with my criticisms, but fig tree is definitely priced higher than other more standard fare restaurants in Plymouth where we have also had very good food.

We wanted to try a local independent restaurant instead of one of the chains in Royal William Yard, however it probably wasn’t the right choice for us (couple with a young child). The service was good and attentive and we appreciated the good value children’s meal, however the ambience of the restaurant and price of the rest of the meal were disappointing. The 2 course meal pricing works if you are ordering expensive meat or fish, but for vegetarian options it is very overpriced. Equally, alcoholic drinks are not particularly expensive, but the soft drinks are ludicrously overpriced. Food was nice but would not return and as one patron already commented the lack of ventilation and poor soundtrack really impacted the atmosphere.

We tried the "trust the chef" menu and it was simply fantastic. I would highly recommend it. The service was great too.

We had a Saturday evening experience which was wonderful. Food is excellent and the atmosphere great. Very pleasant staff. The wine and beer list includes an excellent English wine and local bottled beer. Great fun and we will definitely go back.

Had an amazing meal in this fantastic little restaurant. We particularly loved the smoked butter served with the bread! We'll definitely be back. Unfortunately we only took photos of our starters, but they tasted as good as they look.

The Fig Tree needs to get their act together. We were recommended this restaurant by The Trencherman Guide and arrived at 12.15 for pre booked lunch reservation to be told that they were having problems with their printer and were waiting for chef to sort it out, there was also a table of two who had been there since midday. At around 12.40 the female waiter gave a verbal rundown of the menu to the other table who decided they had waited around long enough and left the restaurant without ordering. At the same time a “walk-in” requested a table for two and were told chef was not taking any further bookings this lunchtime! If I had not already paid a booking deposit of £20 I would have followed them out. We eventually ordered and I must say the fish soup I had as a starter was very good indeed, full of scallops and mussels in a tasty bisque. Our mains of roasted Skate wings were fine but potato terrine and green beans were overcooked and scorched. Affogato to follow with fig leaf ice cream was delicious. We may have caught them on a bad day but they need to realise there are other restaurants in Plymouth offering equally good food in a far more professional environment. As such we are unlikely to return.

Five of us went to the Fig Tree for a birthday meal. The food, service and ambience were wonderful. The quietest member of the group sighed loudly as he finished his meal. That, he said, was a gastronomic orgasm.

Tried this amazing place for the first time on a Saturday, for a family birthday lunch. Service first class, food utterly sublime, beautiful ambience and setting, and a birthday cake blew us all away, simply divine. Cannot wait to go again! Thank you to Ryan and the team for making our visit so perfect.

Just had a lovely lunch and catch up with my friend here. It’s a lovely little place, with delicious food and drinks. I tried the boyga and a totally bananas smoothie which didn’t disappoint. The hash browns are amazing!! Would highly recommend this place :) will definitely be returning soon to try more on the menu.

Located In the centre of the Plymouth market. Good little store. Staff really friendly and welcoming, this is a desert stall. Took my siblings here on a day out for a quick pick me up sweet treat, very welcoming. Not only sellls deserts but also international cereals which I think is a nice touch. They have a loyalty card, gaining a stamp with each purchase. Good reward system to keep returning customers.

Don’t bother, service very slow and it wasn’t even busy, when we remind them we were still waiting we were told we haven’t even started your order thanks for reminding us! lunch food was very average. Wouldn’t bother again, shame as a lovely location.

The Eden Project - it’s fantastic!!The tropical rainforest pod gives everyone a chance to experience plants from equatorial areas. Avoid the cool room as it isn’t the most hygienic of places. The plants are spectacular however. The temperate Mediterranean pod shows an array of spectacular plants and is a must!A wonderful day out...
