One of the finest restaurants I have visited anywhere. Short but imaginative menu in a quite extraordinary setting. I try to dine here whenever I visit Plymouth. Do not leave the West Country without trying this wonderful restaurant. Thank you to Debbie and Peter for creating and sustaining this place!

Absolutely everything about this little restaurant is 5*. Every mouthful was fantastic, every interaction with the waiter was so personable, the wine was excellent, and the owner chatting to us for 15 minutes at close was a lovely touch. Relaxed, informal, but my word is the food exceptional. You get what you pay for here, not the cheapest by any means but worth every penny for a special occasion. We’ll be back without a doubt.

Deserves the highest rating and I try to dine here when-so-ever I am in Plymouth, though the limited opening nhours can prevent it. Small and intimate with attentive waitress and chef with extraordinarily good and interesting food. Having eaten in some Michelin starred places, I would say that this is of the standard. The chef I believe tries to use local fresh produce. I cannot recomend this restaurant highly enough. The steps down to the loo are a bit steep but even as a decrepid OAP I managed. I only enjoy the odd glass of wine and a cocktail so I cannot comment on the wine list. If you are in Plymouth, book and treat yourself

Absolutely beautiful meal tonight. I had the fillet steak that was cooked to perfection followed by the summer fruit meringue, it was delicious. Our lovely server Fabio made it even more special with his impeccable manners and politeness. He made our whole evening extra special. Thank you so much we will be back xxxx

First time here and what a treat. Welcomed by the engaging Fabio and Peter the chef down a few steps and into one of the smallest, intimate restaurants I've ever been in. Fantastic view over to Drake's Island and I'm set. I'm not going to go on about what I had, suffice to say that everything put in front of me was well proportioned, fantastically presented and delicious. Everything had "something" which made it taste better than I expected. Thanks to you both for making our evening better than I thought it would be. I'll certainly be back again 👍

Overall an excellent choice for an evening of fine dining but it could be superb… There were only 4 mains on the menu but we were told that two of them were not available which is pretty poor from such a limited choice. They were beef and fish which I would have thought were staples of any restaurant. However the lamb and the duck were both superb and faultless as was the chocolate desert with passion fruit sorbet. Both were probably the best I have ever had. Improvements. There should always be a fish option. The cutlery looked very ordinary and basic. I’m not expecting sterling silver but they could certainly be improved. It would be nice to have linen tablecloths on the table. I know that neither of these add to the food but it helps “up the overall quality” and feel of a place. However neither of these would prevent me returning again as soon as possible.

Do not leave a visit to Plymouth without dining at this incredible restaurant just a stone's throw away from Royal William Yard. Chef Patron Peter and his wife Debbie make sure you have an exceptional dining experience. Michelin quality food all freshly cooked in situ within an atmospheric Tudor time tower, with a cosy log fire and amazing views. Lovely menu with mouth watering choices. Good wine list. What a gem of a place! They are having issues with their phone at the moment but please persist and leave a message so they can call you back to book. Very nice that we were able to bring our big (old, well behaved) greyhound along. The food was absolutely outstanding, from the bread to the soup appetiser, to the amazing crab starter, to the delicious fish main with perfectly cooked sides (the dauphinoise was spectacular!), to the cherry and almond tart with the loveliest, thinnest pastry. Nice wine list too, owners are very friendly and nice to talk to. Can't recommend it highly enough. Had such a good time I completely forgot to take any photos... will just have to go back I guess!

Simple menu done at the highest level... One of the best dining experiences you'll ever have. Unique location and atmosphere. An absolute must try.

Could not say anything bad at all, service absolutely brilliant food amazing. I would highly recommend visiting. Loved all the little extra touches like bowl of nuts on the table and beautiful bread and butter served with small cup of soup.

We rediscovered our love of this amazing place with its stunning food and engaging staff. Since our return to Plymouth we had to experience The Artillery Tower again for a birthday treat. A simply lovely place with warm and knowledgable people serving fresh and beautifully cooked food. A gorgeous log fire embraced us in a clean and unique space that added to our evening along with good conversation and service. Thank you both so much for making our special day even more memorable.

Fantastic restaurant! Rustic atmosphere and great service. There was a choice between a two or three course menu and there were three to four variations per menu. The drinks menu and especially the wine list had a lot to offer. The restaurant is run by a man and a woman. He cooks and she ensures the good service. It was a really great evening. In total there is space for around 20 guests. You have to make a reservation here! Spontaneous doesn't work - it's a good thing because there were simply no walk-in customers and that made the whole thing even more comfortable. Highly recommended!

This compact restaurant has a really wonderful setting on the meeting of Plymouth Sound and the River Tamar and an easy stroll to the historic King William dockyard. The restaurant is in an ancient building; on the night we went it was notable to be at full capacity. Run by an excellent chef and his wife. The food and service were top class.

This tiny restaurant was a treat. The three course dining menu offered good meat/fish choices accompanied by a range of wines, many South African (which I like!). Some slight confusions over dietary allergies, but no harm done. It’s been hot recently and the restaurant was very hot and would have benefitted from opening the tower windows. The service was well executed and food delicious. Recommended.

I cannot believe I haven't been here before when visiting Plymouth! The atmosphere, food, surroundings and service were superb. We had a table for four by the window overlooking the sea... A fantastic view. The restaurant is small but cosy, adding to the intimate experience... The fillet of beef, the duck and rack of lamb were cooked to perfection. Desserts incredible too! At the end of the evening Peter, the chef came and spoke to each table. It added a real personal touch... His wife, Debbie was a perfect host. We cannot wait to return when we are back in Plymouth...

As a birthday treat we visited this hidden gem of a restaurant and what a night! A Historic building with fine cuisine that feels so homely. The food is Devine and very reasonably priced, with so many places to dine across the City if you have never been then you are missing out. Would personally recommend the Dirty Martini as a start to the evening! The menu changes per visit so it would be difficult to recommend anything. However, the scallop & pork belly starter I had was literally amazing. We followed this with rack of lamb and beef sirloin mains…. Heaven sent! The staff here are so personable, the chef visits you at the end of the meal and the conversation is so welcoming. Will return and you must visit.

Visited this beautiful restaurant for my birthday, whilst holidaying in Devon. We were recommended to visit by the manager of our hotel, who said it was one of the best places to eat in Plymouth. He was not wrong! The setting is utterly romantic with solid stone walls and windows overlooking the sea. The spiral staircase down to the loos is an experience too! This restaurant is run by a husband and wife team who are polished and slick in their delivery. There are such a limited number of covers as you are looked over solely by the owner, so you know service will be good. The food was simply exceptional. I had the specials - Venison for main and a creme brulee for dessert. Presentation was excellent and the food cooked to perfection. We were blown away - particularly by the bill!! How they can produce food of this standard for £60 for three courses astounds me. I would have paid twice that and still walked away extremely satisfied.

From start to finish a lovely evening! The cocktail was unusual and interesting. The amuse bouche was delightful. The food we ate was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Place deserves greater recognition.

Super romantic place . Food delicious building incredible. So glad we went ( a surprise from my boyfriend) The only thing what was missing was some nice music to drown out the clattering of knifes & forks and other guests chewing . Beautiful place and wonderful hosts

Honestly can not recommend this restaurant enough - a really unique and interesting setting, and we were made to feel welcome and relaxed right from start to finish, which is rare for 4 young men from Wolverhampton who aren't particularly used to fine dining! Starters were a treat, well portioned and came out quickly - fish soup was incredible. Really recommend both the beef and the lamb mains, perfectly cooked to order and it was clear that really top quality local ingredients were used. Great wine selection too and you can tell that everything was prepared and served with real passion. Even the view of the waves crashing against the walls below was a sight to behold, and added to the atmosphere despite it being practically stormy in mid-July. Thank you and we'll definitely be returning when we're back around that way! Tom

Quite the best meal we have had for ages. Wonderful setting. Very good food and delivered with a personal touch. The fish soup was just excellent and we all enjoyed the cherry ice cream. Easy convenient nearby parking. No adverse comments whatever

An amazing restaurant that offers a very personalised dining experience. Location is just lovely - beautifully restored building with lots of character - with great views of the sea. The set meal has something for everyone - we all started with the scallops on belly pork & it was outstanding. For our mains we had beef, pork & fish - all were beautifully cooked & presented. We could only manage a couple of puddings but they were excellent. The wines offered are very thoughtful - we had a bottle of the Chardonnay (it was excellent) & some glasses of Bordeaux red with the mains. Service from the husband & wife team was just right - attentive without being over-bearing. In summary, the food & service was better than a number of well-known Michelin starred restaurants I could name - just loved the experience & will go back next time we're in Plymouth.

This place is super, the owners have been there over 20 years and are lovely. The food was awesome. I will deffo be going back. Cheers guys!

The location of this restaurant is very special- right on the water by Royal William Yard. In a unique small historical building Peter, the chef, is creating and serving the best food in Plymouth. Superb food locally sourced, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it. Go and treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience. We can’t wait to return!

The restaurant provided food that was very good. The whole experience was a little disappointing though. As a compact building and some "noisy" guests, the atmosphere was less than ideal.

My kind of food. Very well cooked. Couldn't fault anything aside from the fact that as it's a small and quaint venue, it was a little quiet in terms of atmosphere. Personal preference is something a little louder. Would go again and definitely a great place for special occasion and personal touch. Both chef and front of house very friendly and welcoming. Made a fuss as we were celebrating a honeymoon which was nice.

Just had a fantastic dining experience at the Artillery Tower thanks to Pete and Debbie. This is one of the best meals I have had bar none, the starter of Duck and caramelised onion soup was very tasty and had some lovely duck breast in it, my wife had some divine locally sourced scallops with a celeriac puree. We then had fillet of beef with seasonal veg and potatoes dauphinoise and the meat had a real depth of flavour and was perfectly cooked, a joy to eat. Desert was a feast of chocolate cake and raspberry coulee and I had cheese and crackers, all we superb. YOU really need to try the food here because it is the best I have had in the whole of the Plymouth and SW area. Go and treat your taste buds. A superb Valentines Day meal which was great value as well, all in all 10/10.

A lovely intimate venue for a quality meal. We booked for a special dinner and weren't disappointed. The tower is a single room with less than 10 tables which gives a homely feel. Log burner added to the atmosphere. Service is by a husband and wife team who take the time to engage with their guests. Food is from a set menu and was all unfussy but prepared to a high standard.

We had the most delicious meal where every course was delicious. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or bring friends to this unique restaurant. It’s fun to dine somewhere that feels a bit different. Super, friendly service too.

My wife and I went last night as a late birthday treat for myself. What a wonderful evening. The restaurant is beautiful,it's housed in an old gun tower,it's small but lovely. Its warming, cosy,welcoming,tasteful with a lovely log heater to keep you warm. The staff (both of them) hardworking,attentive,helpful, friendly. The restaurant was full but the hostess made us feel special and had all the time for us we needed,she really couldn't have done more for us. The food,where to start...We both chose the same foods,we had. Belly of pork with scallops to start excellent. The pork fell apart,the scallops cooked to perfection the flavours were out of this world. Fillet of beef,main course,again superb,taste was out of this world,the carrots not sure how they were cooked but I could have eaten a whole plateful. Price wise,very realistic,I've certainly paid a lot more for a lot less. I really cannot speak highly enough of the evening,(I'm running out of superlatives). HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This place was fantastic, a lovely atmosphere and very intimate, the food was incredible and the drinks were fab. The service was lovely as well, with the hostess helping in any way she could and the chef coming out after food was finished to make sure everything was okay.

Our first time dining here, hopefully not the last. Cosy, welcoming setting with equally cosy, welcoming, friendly hosts. Spectacular food and no rushed courses, just take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and views.

Dined here last Friday for a belated birthday treat. The food was well worth the wait! The restaurant was comfortable and very Covid-secure. There were only 6 tables, each occupied by just 2 people. Only the tasting menu was on offer due to the current situation and we were telephoned in advance & advised.I don't know how this place has kept going, but I'm soooo glad it has. The food was divine and the service excellent. I truly hope these guys can survive the Covid crisis as I can't wait to visit again :-)Keep up the great work and stay safe! ❤

Very nice location, and even better food

Had a fantastic meal at this restaurant. 100% this should be a Michelin Star restaurant in my opinion having been to Michelin Star restaurants before and this is on parr if not better. Excellent food and the staff make the visit feel very personal, which is rare these days. This is a late review, but better late than never.

Supper last night was great. The tower is an interesting place to eat, the team are perfectly attentive and the food was delicious.My wife is a vegetarian so had her own options for the menu, specially prepared for her and my Scallops on Belly pork followed by Peppered venison were both cooked to perfection - melt in the mouth delicious.The sweets were completely balanced sweet and sharp, a perfect complement to the meal.

This is our second visit, the food was delicious, everything we ate was superb, hospitality was excellent, very attentive and fast service. The history and atmosphere of the place was just amazing and the setting was beautiful. By far the best restaurant I have been to and cannot recommend it enough. Very excited to return.

Visited the restaurant 20yrs ago. I enjoyed it then I just hoped this weekends visit didn't disappoint. It didn't. Well worth the money for great food and fantastic experience

El entorno es absolutamente único, la bienvenida es cálida y la comida es excelente. A nuestra llegada nos recibieron calurosamente, el cálido pan recién hecho que se sirve fue posiblemente el mejor que hemos comido. Teníamos entrantes de cangrejo y aguacate y mi compañero tenía cerdo de vientre, ambos eran una delicia. Los platos principales de filete de ternera y cordero volvieron a ser una delicia. Casi no teníamos espacio para el pudín, pero al ver lo que servían a los demás, no podía dejar de intentarlo. Optamos por la tarta de chocolate y nos alegramos mucho de haberlo hecho. El lugar es muy íntimo y uno que no debe perderse si tiene la oportunidad de ir, hágalo, ¡es una verdadera joya!

Arrived in the very intimate artillery tower. What a superb venue. Debbie who greeted us looked after us all evening and was great. We had a starter and main I wish we could’ve fit in dessert. The lamb was perfection.

Best restaraunt in Devon and Cornwall by a country mile

My wife and I celebrated our 31st wedding Anniversary at The Artillery Tower on Wed 9th September 2020. Our dining experience was exceptional, the menu had a great choice and the standard was way better than that which you get in the West end of London ( I frequently dine in London). The Head Chef ( owner) and his wife came out and chatted to us after our meal ( they did that with all the customers) which I think is the mark of a very professional business. Highly recommended. 10/10 Simon Foxen.

Muy buena comida y buen vino. Porciones de tamaño decente. Servicio amable, pero. . . tal vez sea lo de Covid, pero este pequeño restaurante carece de ambiente. La habitación es muy pequeña y, por tanto, íntima, incluso tranquila. Hubiera ido la estrella extra, pero por este precio, esperas un poco más, con el vino son 120 más para dos. El número de cubiertas disponibles probablemente dictará su precio.

We had a really lovely meal here this evening to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We could not fault anything. The service was amazing by Debbie, we felt like one of the family. The food c/o chef Peter was a circus of flavours. Each dish was delicious. I just wish we had room left for the great choice of sweets. This restaurant has a wonderful cosy feel, packed full of history. I would not hesitate in recommending to friends or family.

Well worth the price! It's a quaint hidden away little restaurant with great quality food, I've had 2 visits now and looking forward to booking again later in the year. Expect to pay around £50-£60 a head for 3 courses and a drink or 2.

The Artillery Tower is a very small restaurant ( seats no more than 20 ). Therefore feels very exclusive, I will start with a small downside - There is no parking outside, that said there is ample parking at Devils Point a 2 minute walk away. The restaurant is accessed by a set of 3 or 4 stairs.There is a good choice on the menu, in our party of 5 we choose 4 different main courses, all of which were superb. 3 of the party had starters, and 2 of us had puddings. The Cherry Pie - which says it is a 20 minute wait is definitely worth the wait.For a special occasion I would highly recommend visiting, for the prices I believe it is excellent value for money. ( Yes, of course you could go somewhere cheaper - but for food of this quality in a unique location, its great )

My partner and I visited Artillery Tower for a birthday treat and it was really something special. From start to finish the service, food, and cosy atmosphere of the restaurant itself was fantastic. We felt really looked after and well fed! The menu is reasonably priced for what you get - delicious fresh produce prepared with love. You wouldn’t believe the restaurant is only run by 2 people. The chef came and chatted to all the tables at the end of the meal which was a special touch and they even booked our taxi home. It was a pleasure to visit and we hope to come back in the summer when we can make the most of the sea views! Definitely the place to be if you’re looking for something extra special in Plymouth.

This place I booked for boyfriends birthday, I wanted something completely different and cute and I definitely found it here. The staff were incredible and the food was unbelievably beautiful. My boyfriend got treated like royalty and the chef even came to talk to us after the meal which I personally find extra special. It’s very small but it creates a cosy, warm atmosphere especially with the log fire in the background , it’s something we haven’t tried before and it was perfect. I would highly recommend this place. We will be returning.
