This is one of those places that knows it has a good position so probably will always attract customers. I found the service to be very good and the pub has charm however the food is average. Nice place to stop off for a drink

Fond memories of coming down here with my grandparents. Also have visited with friends from abroad and have always had a good meal and drink here. Car park can be a bit hit and miss with being able to park as it’s popular. Also be aware that it’s not all day food, they do have breaks in the service m, so don’t get caught out if you’re Hangry.

Lovely spot by the sea, nice walk from a huge public car park of just over a mile. There is parking near the pub but the area gets very crowded in summer, so best to use the public car park. Food excellent, a good step up from "pub grub"; good restaurant quality and well presented. Lots of seating both indoors and outdoors and plenty of beers and ciders on draught too. Booking definitely recommended especially at weekends. They don't do a roast on Sunday but have the full normal menu including specials, which offers plenty of choice.

Great spot and good drinks. Saw food coming out, it looked nice but your normal pub food. Wanted to eat so looked at the menu 😮 way too pricey. £23.00 plus for fish and chips. £18.00 plus for a simple chicken curry. All specials over £20.00......just way too much for a family to afford. Shame. If they dropped their prices I'm sure they would get more turnover.

Mean portions of seafood in the seafood salad. Some mediocre prawns, about 1/3rd of a mackerel fillet (tail end!), a tiny portion of smoked salmon, and a roll mop. Four tiny bits of bread and a pile of (nice) salad. £20.50! Very disappointed regular customer.

Four of us met for lunch, we should have looked on line first as prices are higher than current average for pub grub. The premises need a deep clean, the upholstery on the bench seat was filthy. Two of us had grilled haddock with vegetables, small portion of fish and vegetables out of the freezer which needed more cooking and no sauce to accompany the fish. One of us had the fish pies, a few pieces of white fish and salmon in a sauce with some mashed potato on top. The other got the best deal having the fish and chips, this was a decent potion and was what it was. Overall this was an expensive and disappointing experience for pub grub. There are better pubs about for better quality at a more reasonable cost. As a previous customer has noted, this place must be trading on a past reputation.

Atmosphere was lovely, staff nice and friendly with a quick service. Food and Drink reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the mussles we ordered were unwashed, causing lots of grit, which really takes away from enjoyment of eating tasty mussles. I found a small (tiny) crab in with our mussles and there were lots of barnacles still on the shells and some within the sauce. I also had a side of parmesan chips, which were very good. A little extra care in preparing the food would completely avoid this.

Always loved the Ferry Boat Inn over the decades, but the decline has really set in. Arriving at our dining table, we’d barely gotten one arm out of our coats before we were asked for our drink order. The seed was planted for one of those rushed-feeling meals, guaranteed to put you on edge. We started with sardines, which were lacklustre at best, tired at worst, with hacks of tragic, dry lettuce. I’d had their delicious grilled skate earlier in the year, so ordered it again. Sadly it smelled of ammonia, so I asked the server to send it back. She said “but it is fresh”. I wasn’t sure whether I should apologise for noticing it was clearly off… They replaced it with a very good battered plaice, but not before informing me that the chef couldn’t smell ammonia on the skate, insinuating I’m clearly an idiot - a troublemaker sent to ruin their day. My fellow diner was also repulsed by the off fish, but chef knows best at the FBI, apparently. Or they had a head cold. The cottage pie was sloppy, lifeless and without a crispy top, unlike the same pie several months back. The service was curt, perfunctory and the enthusiasm forced. There was no joy in the place. The ambient music was local radio, so the soundtrack to being gaslit by stubborn chefs was adverts for car dealerships. There are some excellent, friendly places in Felixstowe and beyond. The FBI has every opportunity to be the best in the area, but over many years it has squandered the chance by being soulless, inconsistent and frosty.

I'm surprised this place has 4* and can only assume the reviews must be from peiple who didn't eat here. If you do decide to eat here you can enjoy such things as fried frozen chips, grainy cheap burgers deigning to call themselves "Wagyu" and to pay wayyyy over the odds for everything, based on an historically decent reputation which this pub no longer deserves. On the plus side, the "luxury" (and only the luxury version) ice-cream was delicious - probably because it came from a carton.

I would not recommend this pub if you are a family. We visited this pub after a wet walk and decided to pop in for an afternoon drink. We had a young 6 month old and a dog and they did not want to accommodate us. Other people in the pub invited us to join them and made room for us at they’re table but the pub staff told us we weren't welcome because we had a young child and we’re not allowed in the bar area. The child was sleeping and the dog was calm. I’ve never felt so unwelcome to a pub. Would not recommend.

Staying with my sister I suggested we visit Felixtowe Ferry to have a look around the boatyard. We had a choice of parking. Pay at the municipal parking and eat in the cafe or eat at The Ferry Boat Inn and get free parking We chose the pub and took advantage of the OAP reduced cost lunch. We both chose fish and chips with mushy peas, my sister having cod and I had haddock. The portions were smaller than the £18.00 non OAP meals but for a lunchtime meal this suited is perfectly. The fish was really very good indeed. Crispy batter without the gloopy soft batter underneath that so often get. The chips were perfect. We would definitely eat there again.

There are already a number of poor reviews on TA which describe the Ferry food as expensive, poor quality. Unfortunately we have to agree. We ordered four fish main courses and had to send two back as uncooked. Normally the problem with fish is overcooking. The other two plates weren’t brilliant. When you are paying £20 for a main course you do expect quality. The serving staff were very good, recognising the issue when highlighted to them, and arranging replacements very quickly, along with offer of complimentary drinks. This review isn’t made out is spite, but to try and help the owners and other potential customers. £100 for four main dishes and four drinks is expensive for a disappointing experience. We won’t be visiting again.

The large, beer- battered cod and chips we had yesterday was average, the cod was well cooked which is important, but the chips were really over fried, I felt. I couldn’t eat the mushy peas as they tasted strange. We didn’t stop for a pudding, so not sure what they are like. There was a good selection however. I felt the seating area outside could have been better. The new artificial turf was practical for the landlords, I agree, but the benches were uncomfortable. I would concentrate on making the garden furniture more inviting, then customers would spend more time; which would result in the pub making a profit on more drinks etc… So, the price? Very expensive for what we received, I felt. This pub/inn is in a delightful location, so full of character but lacking the positive vibe it is sadly being robbed of. Would we visit again? Yes.

A very nice olde English pub, good position by the sea, although you couldn't actually see the sea. Good range of beers although 3 types weren't able to be served. Food is very expensive, (e.g., lasagne £17) and when asked about sandwiches, the barman, who really didn't seem to have the time of day for me, presumedly because I had just asked for 3 beers that weren't being served at the time, was uncooperative and I was told there were menus around somewhere. I had travelled for over an hour to get to the pub for lunch, but we decided against it, and left.

Stopped in here after a lovely walk along the sea front. We were too early for evening food but we're made to feel extremely welcome. The lady behind the bar was extremely friendly and attentive to us. When the kitchen opened one of our group has dietary requirements that meant changes to the advertised meal, again she was so knowledgeable. The food was hot and fresh and all four of us said we will be returning on our next visit. Thank you!

A gem of a pub where we have previously stayed but this visit was for food and drink only. Important to remember it is a pub. Tables are not reset able and many people pop in for a drink only. The food is simple but plentiful, flavoursome and satisfying. As for drink, well it is an Adams pub - enough said.

On the way to our holiday destination in Suffolk ,we got lost. I was so desperate to use the toilet we stopped at the Barley Mow only to find it was closed ! Two men in the carpark asked if they could help and very kindly opened the Pub doors to let me use their toilet.....I can't thank them enough. They also pointed me in the right direction of my holiday destination. Thanks guys. I cant comment on the pub itself as it was closed.
