We have been visitng the Eel's Foot pub for decades during the course of walks in the suffolk countryside and, in particular have always loved the roast dinners served on Sundays. However sadly this time the food really disappointed. Meals were brought out one dish at a time for a party of 6 people so we were not able to eat together and everything was poor quality. Such a shame. Such a disappointment.

Re-opened, great setting and drinks as usual. Food however very basic and overpriced - oven chips and cheap ingredients with a massive mark up. Need to up their game in terms of the food, used to be much better years ago. Could only recommend for a drink at the moment.

The Eel's is back on form. After a few years of it not being what it was, it was so good to feel it back on fire. The bar staff are so friendly and the food is so good. The haddock and chips were so good that we failed to persuade our boy that a full on fish and chip shop would be better for dinner the next night. He was right. They've got an amazing new pudding of cookie dough in an individual pan with ice cream on top. As a bonus, there's a jug of chocolate sauce. All so good and it's so good to see a return to form.

Wonderful traditional pub with open fire and a warm welcome. 5 groups of walkers converged about 1:30 pm (plus a friendly local) and yet food was delivered pretty sharpish. We both had Welsh rarebit - sounds unadventurous but this was yummy (one with mushrooms and one with ham) topped with poached egg. Just what was needed. Usual range of Adnams beers etc. I’ve been in the summer too when it is v busy but it was maybe 1/4 full today. Nice vibe and a v good selection of food to suit all tastes. It’s pretty isolated so they must be doing something right to still be going!

Staying at Westleton, we visited the Eels Foot for dinner having been recommended by a friend who lives nearby. There was a roaring fire and a good atmosphere, it's clearly popular with locals as well as B&B guests. And what a treat to eat somewhere without tinny background music! I had pigeon, and they kindly agreed to do it with dauphinoise potato from elsewhere on the menu. It was all excellent. My partner had a halloumi burger, which came with mushrooms as well, and was apparently very good, with plenty of nice fries. I finished with one of the best warm brownies I've had. Good service, reasonably priced, and altogrther an entertaining evening!

This pub has been a firm favourite of ours for over 20 years. We've had many lovely tasty meals; fish and chips, Sunday roasts, wood fired pizzas and imaginative pasta dishes in that time. We decided to spend the early evening there to avoid our village firework display, which upsets our dog. We found a table and had to ask for it to be wiped down and I was slopped with water whilst the boy made a half hearted attempt to clean it. He brought our tea and then slopped the milk all over the tray. After half an hour we ordered a starter each of fried haloumi and squid. The squid was fine but the haloumi was served as tiny cubes deep fred to within an inch of its life. Absolutely tasteless. No sooner had we finished our starters the main course was thrust upon us. Our main was supposed to be beer battered haddock with chips and garden peas. The boy serving (who had an ear bud in his ear) had no idea of how to serve at table, passed me a very hot plate above the head of my partner, which I dropped onto the table as it burnt my fingers. The fish was clearly not beer battered and certainly not haddock. I believe it was Basa in a grey, soggy type coating. It was the most unappetising looking piece of fish with no flakes or flavour. The chips were so thinly cut and over cooked that there was no soft potato inside and the garden peas were petit pois and as hard as shot. I complained to the manager who disappeared into the kitchen to confirm it was 'haddock'. To be fair he did offer me the option of something else from the menu but I declined. My husband kept and ate his meal, although didn't enjoy it. He said later that he didn’t want to upset anyone given we like the pub. Normally we'd have had a pudding but assumed they would be of equally poor quality, paid and left. This little gem of a pub is being let down by sloppy table service, poor quality food and dreadful cooking. I can only assume that there is a novice in the kitchen. I very much doubt we will return anytime soon.

Came here for a dinner with the family. It was a very quiet Wednesday evening. All in all the food was very average. One of us had scampi and chips, another burger and I had the loaded fries. None of it seemed to be home-cooked but rather items that could be taken out of the freezer and heated up or put in the deep fat fryer. Perfectly edible, but really nothing special at all and not worth going out of your way for. My pint of Adnams dryhopped ale was a bit rough and I couldn’t finish it. Very expensive for what it was, the bill coming to £60+

Dinner for 4. Advertised ales weren't available because "the cask was sat in the back but hadn't been put on". Everyone else was eating deep fried food- mostly fish and chips. The tables and bar were grubby. Brushetta was a pile of chopped red onion drenched in cheap balsamic syrup. It was inedible and expensive. Crab and chilli linguine was dry, bland and expensive. Ham, egg and chips- ham looked like cheap supermarket ham; it was a few cells thick and lacking in any flavour. And expensive. Burger was greasy, and gristley and expensive. Maybe that's why everyone else was eating fish and chips? But that looked sub par aswell. Service left a lot to desired- had to wsit for an age for each interaction, had to ask for cutlery. Then sauces. And when we raised concerns about the food they didn't care. Overall over-priced and a complete disappointment. There are far better places to eat- save your money and find something satisfying and of value elsewhere in a clean, comfortable environment where they value your custom.

Ate here on Sunday. They'd stopped the Roast dinners for the Summer which was a shame so I decided to have Lasagne. It came out with a side Salad and garlic ciabatta bread. It was all very nice until I got the most excruciating pain in my stomach and had to run to the toilet. We were meant to be going for a nice walk afterwards but I just didn't feel well enough. I'd only had a coffee earlier so couldn't put it down to anything else. As I left the pub my head started to spin, I felt sick and I got the most awful diarrhoea. Something had clearly disagreed with me and I know it was food poisoning as I was also bleeding (sorry to be so graffic) as its happened to me once before and when I rang the Doctors that's what he said it was. It's such a shame as I love this little Pub but I will not eat there again and reading other reviews on here regarding peoples food it has only confirmed my fears that it was my food. 😔

Overnight family B&B stay with dinner 1st August 2023. Location is superb. Proximity to Minsmere is excellent. Room was clean and spacious. TV doesn’t work well- channel reception is poor. The family room is situated adjacent to the beer garden. Pub garden is large. Kids climbing tower/slide is rotten and falling apart. Pub and restaurant are dirty (floor filthy, bar is either soaked or sticky, tables unwiped, all bottles of ketchup only had half a teaspoon of sauce left in them and were grimy) and some advertised ales aren’t available. Dinner was appalling. We ordered two kids burgers from the kids menu. Part-way through eating we realised that one of the kids burgers was oozing blood. We sent it back and declined a replacement- my son had unsurprisingly lost his appetite. We didn’t pay for the burger. When I settled the remaining bill, I asked to speak to the person in charge. A young man came from the kitchen and informed me that there wasn’t a manager on duty and the owner was away, he was the only person available. I explained my concern that the advice from the Food Standard Agency regarding burgers is that they should always be served well done, particularly for vulnerable customers such as children to prevent the risk of food poisoning. We were also booked for breakfast the next day, however we wouldn’t be eating here again if the kitchen doesn’t have regard for advice from the Food Standard Agency. The young man informed me that when the two burgers left the kitchen, they had been checked with a probe and were both 85deg C. That didn’t reassure me- it doesn’t ensure that a burger is cooked well enough to avoid food poisoning. If we don’t have breakfast as part of our stay, then that’s found to choice. This young man seems to think he knows better than the Food Standard Agency, therefore I wasn’t reassured by his response. There’s no way I will risk the health of my family and eat here again. Not much of a choice on that score. Then to top off an already poor experience, at midnight the fire alarm went off and woke the 4 of us. Then again at 12.25am. We went to find who was on duty (no-one had bothered to come and explain what was going on) and were told that there was a fault with the fire alarm and that someone had been called- not sure when this will be fixed. With the prospect of us being woken up every 25 minutes by a faulty fire alarm indefinitely throughout the night, we decided to leave so our kids could get some sleep. Whole place reeks of couldn’t care less.

This is a little gem. We had booked for two nights but extended our stay for an extra night. The staff are absolutely wonderful and nothing is too much. The food is great, the rooms comfortable and area is lovely. We will definitely be coming...

Popped in for a quick bite to eat. Ended staying a while having lunch and a pint. Very good service and food. Did not stay overnight, so I can not comment on that.

Not nearly good enough. We had fond memories of this place. It's changed. No warm welcome. No fire. Disinterested staff. Only a few others there and server still got order wrong. Food very average. Food overcooked.

After a very long walk, a large group of us enjoyed a lovely drink in the spacious garden of the pub. We sat outside lapping up the ambient natural light of the sun. The garden was great: with something for all (even an Adnam’s Ghost...

Had a great two night stay at the Eels Foot Inn - welcoming, comfortable and the food (in particular, the pigeon Wellington and the full English breakfast) was really very nice. Only complaints - no soap and no fresh towels for our second night - still giving 5 stars, as I daresay if I'd have asked, I would have been accomadated for. Will definitely be returning with our pooch.

We stayed in our campervan on their 5 place site overlooking Minsmere marshes. Nice pub, welcoming staff good food and beer. Very convenient for birdwatching sites and the Suffolk coast. They also have some rooms to rent.

We had two meals at the Eels Foot Inn while staying nearby in a holiday cottage. Both were very good, well above the standard of normal pub food. The staff were very friendly & efficient. Overall this was an excellent pub dining experience.

We have been here twice in the last few days, and enjoyed 4 different mains, and 2 puddings. Friendly staff, great food and well kept beer. Myself had beef burger and roast pork belly. Wife had fish and chips and beef lasagne. Both of us...

We ate here for dinner. To order drinks and food needed patience. At one point, we were five deep at the bar with one young bar maid meticulously going about her businless with no help. Three people in the bar complained the pub was cold and eventually a fire was lit. But left unattended, it went out not long after! The food was good but the service felt poor with lack of staff in the bar area.

This pub is a 15 minute walk from our accommodation in Suffolk & is well worth a visit. It’s warm & friendly and the food is tasty. We have visited a couple of times when we visit RSPB Minsmere and love the Springwatch autographs on...
