The Fat Fig in Chichester

I visited last Saturday I wanted to treat my daughter to a nice breakfast, I’ve visited previously so was a returning customer. The place wasn’t packed and there were a lot of tables still free, when greeted I was asked to sit almost next/almost on top of other people, the tables of 2 are very close together and you can’t have a private conversation. so I requested we sat on a different table but was told we wasn’t allowed as it could get busy. Ordered a breakfast and poached eggs on toast, originally our breakfast was taken to a wrong table and the waitress wasn’t overly warm or welcoming. The breakfast was lovely but the poached eggs were hard. This isn’t a big complaint but when we left, the tables I asked to sit at were still free. It cost £35 for breakfast and 2 coffees which is fine but for that price please make sure the eggs are cooked properly and allow people to have a choice on where they sit.

Oh dear. I don’t know if we caught you on a bad night but my chilli was hot as expected but with no taste. The black Aberdeen angus burgers were in pieces, not a complete patty and there was not taste to these either. The chips were excellent. So even though we live locally we won’t be back any time soon.

This is a very relaxed restaurant serving wonderful breakfast/brunch. Delicious breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice. Would highly recommend it. New furnishings have improved it still further and toilet provision is good and updated well. Friendly unobtrusive service.

Really lovely little Cafe, great Turkish Breakfast and Huge toasted teacakes. Good choice of coffees and teas plus wines also do meals but we were eating out in evening, but someone couldn’t resist the Turkish breakfast at lunchtime Lovely staff. Comfortable seating and great food. What more could you want. Will visit again

I ordered a breakfast vegetarian burrito, and my partner ordered a chicken pesto pannini, a coffee, and a pot of tea. It was all so very tasty, the deco is beautiful too. We have not been in since it has had a refurb. It has a really clean and fresh feel. Staff are lovely too.

This restaurant is wonderful. We were greeted with a smile took a seat and ordered a large American and panini, it was fairly busy with well dressed people who were obviously heading out to Goodwood for the races. I can't thank the staff enough for great food, great service but most of all for the exceptionally clean environment. What a joy! So many have slipped since COVID and are less welcoming as a result. Walking through Chichester there were countless doors to countless places to eat, all with smeared glass entrances. So hats off to the team for delivering great food and maintaining a pleasant eating environment. We'll be back to sample the other food on the menu and enjoy a glass of wine over the lunch too. 😁

we were shown to our pre-booked table and browsed the menu, eventually the waitress came over to take our order. She didn't have much of a personality for someone in this position. The service was quite slow, when the food arrived we noticed the size of the omelets had shrunk since our last visit in May 2024 and they were not as light and fluffy as they had been previously. Overall the food was good, but not as good as the last time we visited, the service let the experience down, no-one came to see if we required any more drinks or were we happy with everything. The Salt was in the Pepper Pot and Pepper in the Salt Pot :( Maybe they were having an off day

Always a 5 star location for breakfast or a light lunch when in Chichester but this time I ordered the Bacon Avocado Granary sandwich and am especially moved to comment here. Why? The Bacon is amazing!!! It is by far the best tasting back bacon I have ever had in a restaurant or café. Cooked to perfection, just a sliver of fat and a good thickness like a thin chop! I prefer my avocado sliced and not mashed as done in the Fat Fig as it tends to squish out when eating but that is a matter of opinion I'm sure. As usual the staff are wonderful as is the coffee. Quick to serve, polite and they really keep the tables clean as is the rest of the restaurant. Definitely the best location in Chichester for a snack or breakfast..... message to owner, don't change the bacon!!!!!

Very pleasant, welcoming place for brunch. Food was very tasty and plentiful. Went in for coffee and stayed for brunch as menu looked so good. Nice decor and staff.

We parked almost opposite, so popped in for coffee. It looks a bit generic, but the staff bustled about, the tables looked spotless and new, and the food wafting past us looked good. Excellent Illy coffee. Good spacing between tables. We will go back for lunch. Prices were very reasonable on the menu.

Varied menu, so we had difficulty deciding. We had a panini, veg lasagne, and kids pasta. All were very tasty. Lovely decor and atmosphere too.

We hadn't booked and got told there was a 30 minute wait for a table....no problem, we wondered around Chi and then came back. We sat for 15 minutes before I reminded someone that we would like to order. Food came after 40 minutes of being seated. I don't think service is very good at all. Also it's a very echoey restaurant so if you're after a quiet bite to eat look elsewhere. Personally I'm not sure what all the fuss was about....the food was a good average but nothing to write home about.....bit "Emperor's New clothes" just because it's new.

We used to love going here the food is great but unfortunately this time we went service took a long time and when it came to paying they never came to our table so I had to get up and go and pay which let them down

Want to thank the team who were great. Had coffee with a friend I hadn’t seen for 20 years. The coffee was a good strength and nice and hot. The service was spot on, we enjoyed 2 great fresh salads and completed the experience with 2 glasses of dry crisp rose. I will defiantly be back but I will book as I can see how popular this little Mediterranean gem is. Pricing was reflected well with the quality of produce and welcoming customer service. Amazing job team. 💪😋

First time we’ve tried this place so thought we would have the full English breakfast. Presentation was lovely but ingredients tasted very poor quality. Margarine on cheap bread, deep fried sausage deep fried hash brown and poor quality bacon. Felt a bit sick with all the fat after we finished.

Really great customer service especially in accomodating my specific gluten and dairy free requests. They put together a lovely breakfast for me and it was delicious. Very attentive and quick service, friendly and patient. Will definitely return. Only feedback is gluten free oat milk or other dairy free milks without sugar would be great!

Sadly we didn't get to taste the food , service was dreadful ... 10/15 mins before we were asked our order ( staff standing around , more than half tables empty) after an hour and seeing food arrive to tables who arrived after us , we asked to pay for our drinks and cancel our food . Reaction was poor no apology... had we not had to make the theatre we may of waited longer ... but staff reaction was very poor

So disappointed as I know the food here has a great reputation . Sadly we didn't get to taste the food as after waiting an hour and watching tables arriving after us receive their food we finally had to leave as had to be somewhere for 2pm . We asked several times and got told our food was on the way . Wouldn't have felt so bad if the premises were busy but there were only half the tables occupied 3 of which came in after us . The staff didn't appear to be busy , but were totally disinterested . We didn't even get an apology when we said we had to leave infact the total opposite as they said our food was on the grill ( just to say I ordered pasta ) but in fair my husband had ordered a burger . Very disappointing experience yet with some communication we'd of been far happier even if it meant we ate elsewhere .

Been meaning to visit here for breakfast for a while and finally got round to it today. I wasn’t disappointed. I chose the Mediterranean breakfast which was really tasty and well cooked. Staff were friendly and welcoming and I would Definitely visit here again. Only negative which isn’t really a negative as such would be to serve this breakfast on a smaller plate as it was very spaced out and made half the plate look unfilled. Certainly didn’t mar my experience though

Super little restaurant with good food and realistic prices. Some restaurants in Chichester charging eye-watering prices but this one is a winner. Recommended

Fabulous restaurant, the food was excellent and the staff we're very friendly and efficient, any changes to dishes was no problem. The food came out in good time and all 8 of us really enjoyed our breakfast. Highly recommend The Fat Fig and we will definitely return we come down again.

A lovely setting in the centre of town. A wide range of lunch food items- all fresh and delicious. The halloumi salad is the best!!

Highly recommend The Fat Fig for a breakfast, brunch or lunch when visiting Chichester. The cooked breakfasts are outstanding. Food is fresh and plentiful. Beautiful presentation. Hits all the right spots when you are in need of a brunch/lunch and want to leave with a smile on your face!

Stayed in Chichester for a couple of days with family. Really glad we came across this place! Brilliantly and centrally located, great menu and spot-on service. One person in our party is gluten and dairy free and the Fat Fig had gluten-free toast to go with his otherwise ‘normal’ cooked breakfast. I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon - just perfect! Would definitely return if we were in the area again.

We were exploring the city, liked the look of this place and popped in late morning. Pancakes with breakfast hit the spot! It was quiet and service was great. Would go back.

5 of us Travelled up to Chichester for a Uni graduation and looked for somewhere to grab breakfast before hand! And stopped by in this lovely Cafe/Restaurant, the food was amazing and the service was spot on! We had the pancakes and full breakfasts and they were truly unbelievable! And the fresh coffees and smoothies were also spot on! Would definitely go back if ever in the area again, and would highly recommend these guys!

We walked in, asked if they have anything gluten free as one of our party has a wheat allergy only to be told 'we have toast'! Wow, really poor. We left immediately and went up the road to the Bangerz n Burgerz restaurant instead - and they were absolutely brilliant!

Read the reviews so decided to give it a try and i am so glad we did. Good service and tasty food presented professionally. Can definitely recommend and we shall be back

Lovely friendly service from the staff and atmosphere, the food was really good! We really enjoyed the fig pancakes, very tasty.

We discovered this place just before the 1st lockdown and are thrilled they're still open. We had some brilliant salads for lunch. Really generous portions and reasonable price. Looking forward to coming back to try a main meal. The cafe was really clean, they disinfected our table before we sat down. The doors were open for ventilation and the cafe is really big so social distancing is easy. Highly recommended.

We found the fat fig warm and comfortable on a wet afternoon, but thought the food was fairly average. The cakes didn't quite live up to expectations and the main food was fairly ordinary. So not terrible, but not great either. The service was fast but not the most friendly.

This cafe is very clean and offers a small but adequate menu. The staff are very helpful. The coffee they seve is one of the best in Chichester. However, it's a little on the expensive side for what you get. But only marginally. Certaintly very clean and I felt that the premises were very Covid Secure.

Decided to have a light lunch with friends after visiting Pallant House. Good service & good food at a decent price - what more can one ask?

I love this cafe, and have been many times with family. I have had the vege breakfast many times, and it's great, but the vege sausages are foul. There are many great tasting vege sausages, please explore other options.

Visited today for breakfast. Lovely choice on menu. We both had vegetarian. My partner had large I had small. Cannot remember the last time we had such a good breakfast. It was perfect. Service was excellent. Very covid safe. Could not fault. In fact we both agreed to try lunch there very soon. Thankyou

We visited on Friday to have lunch. We have been a few times and taken friends anytime we are in Chichester. It has always been a great place to eat. We find the staff very friendly and the atmosphere really nice. However,this time we thought we would try the lasagne on the recommendation of the waitress. Big mistake..it was dry, rubbery and bland. We did complain when paying and both lasagne were removed from the bill with no fuss. On previous visits we have had the Mediterranean breakfast which is delicious. We will return as we think this was a one off mistake which was rectified amicably.

I visited for brunch on a Sunday and settled on the Greek pancakes. Pancakes were served with lovely fig slices and Greek yogurt with honey. Nice menu with a Greek influence. Covid precautions are properly in place. Friendly efficient service and a good cup of coffee.

Quaint and warming but don’t go there hungry. We visited for a weekday brunch and the service was lovely, the ambience very welcoming and we waited no time at all for our drinks and food. The only slight negative was the portion size. For what we paid it was fine but I’d have gladly paid a few pounds more for a bigger eggs avocado and eggs benedict.

Best breakfast in Chichester! I tried American pancakes with scrambled egg and sausages. First time I have ever had these and they were delicious. The 2 small sausages were excellent and the chai latte was just what I needed too. So good we went there 3 of the 4 mornings we were staying in Chichester.

This is a must stop at restaurant freindly staff good menu comfortable seating . Our light lunch was a delight prices being very reasonable.

I've been here a couple of times for food both pre and post lockdown. Despite the menu being diverse, I opted for the fry up on both occasions! Very tasty! The venue is also clean and their social distancing is good with santiser, track and trace, masks etc etc. Will be back soon!

The food was lovely and so tasty! I had a burger with goats cheese and it was delicious! The burger was perfectly cooked! Also the staff were lovely and very attentive.

I have visited here many times and am never disappointed. It's good to support independent restaurants rather than the boring chains. Always good food and a really nice cup of cofffee.

Place was busy, but able to find a seat free, both of us had the Mediterranean Breakfast, very nice loved the Feta cheese also the fig Jam for our toast, afterwards had a slice of Chocolate Orange cake OMG it was nice and gooey in the middle, would recommend it to cake lovers.

This could so easily become a very bad Saturday morning habit. Lovely food and plenty of it, good coffee as well.

We had a really lovely breakfast today at The Fat Fig. First time visiting Chichester and really pleased that we visited this place. Iced coffee was great as well and a good atmosphere inside. My friend had pancakes as well which he said we're great. Would definitely visit again next time we are here

Poor service, took over 15 minutes for a simple sandwich to arrive, had to go in and remind them to come and take my order

We visited the Fat Fig today and had an excellent lunch. Efficient service too. My wife enjoyed the warm fig and goat cheese salad very much.

Just had a very pleasant lunch here. Friendly laid back sercice, and very tasty salad. Would come back.

I would give it 4.5 if I could only because the bass was slightly over cooked. No faffing around, walk in, find a seat and give your name and phone number when ordering. Other than that it was a no nonsense affair. The food came out within 10 mins and you get a lot for your money. The salad dressing was subtle and the coleslaw was lush. Will try a medium rare steak next time, £11.95?! Bargain. PS Nice cwaffee too x

A quick traditional breakfast with our boys aged 11 and 14. Staff very friendly. We had a very nice coffee. Quick service. It got very busy at about 10am.

This cafe has a very imaginative light meal and snack menu. All the staff are very attentive and work well together. I certainly will go back again

A friend and I tried this lovely cafe for lunch today - What a great surprise! Chilled ambience, relaxed and friendly staff and a good interesting menu at very reasonable prices - from Eggs Benedict to goats cheese salad. I had the chilli con carne which was DELICIOUS! Sian had the Fat Fig salad with amazing honey roasted figs.

We had a very enjoyable lunch here before a theatre visit in January. Good range of vegetarian options on offer: our salads were tasty, filling and value for money. The cafe was clean and tidy; staff were helpful and welcoming. This cafe has a casual, friendly atmosphere and we plan to visit again.

First time of using the Fat Fig having passed by on many occasions. It was mid morning on a Sunday. Our initial stop was just for a cuppa & coffee. I liked the tea, made with a good tea bag & not cheapo cash & carry, my companion loved the coffee, again from a reputable supplier. Having watched the breakfasts & snacks being served, and perusing the menu, we decided to return for out lunch later that dayOn our return for lunch I opted for the beef burger, now I normally do not eat these due to unknown and TBH variable contents, but having seen the meals & general attitude I hoped this one would be OK. And so it proved, tasty,and gristle & nasty bits free.came with small portion of chips + bit of salad. I doubt it's the cheapest burger in Chichester but it was reasonable value for the qualityMy companion had a wrap, also came with chips & bit of salad, again reasonable value for the qualityIt was only as we were leaving did I spot a "tea & cake" offer, a job for our next visit as we shall certainly return

Took my Mum in for lunch as we were in Chichester for a bit of shopping. Table was not clean, no menus either so I had to go and ask the not so happy women behind the counter gave me one menu!!Went up to order some sandwiches with the side of fries. The sandwiches arrived and then a full portion of chips, said to the chap we had not ordered them then a minute later he came back waving a till receipt then went off again. Sandwiches were nothing special dry bread that tasted like it had been warmed up to make it seem fresh. Normally go into Chichester once a month for lunch but will give this place a miss next time, much better places for the same sort of money.

The food is very tasty and well presented. My husband and daughter had a full English which they enjoyed, I had the omelette. The Coffee was delicious. Friendly and efficient service, we will definitely be going back.

Popped in on a drizzly Sunday for a spot of lunch. Nice warm welcome and great atmosphere. We had the signature Fat Fig salad and Greek salad. Very filling and absolutely delicious. Great coffee too. A definite return visit on the cards.

Hadn't planned on going here but so glad we did, we just wanted something simple for lunch and this place looked good.We both decided to go for a large full English breakfast and it was perfect with one exception, it was massive, I even had to leave some!!! Clean, tidy, friendly and with great staff.

My wife and I enjoyed a more than satisfactory English breakfast here today. Good presentation of v decent food items on a hot plate served by pleasant chatty staff. Tea and coffee just perfect. We got what we would expect.

Our first visit - and won’t be the last. We were all very impressed. The veggie full breakfast was the best I’ve had anywhere. Tasty, hot and with a Mediterranean twist of fresh avocado. The veggie sausages were truly delicious! My fellow eaters both had beef burgers and said how tasty and juicy they were. Not the usual thin patties you get, but thick ones which were packed with flavour. The place has a warm, comfy ambience too. Friendly staff added to the overall experience. So pleased this place is in Chichester... We’ll be back!

Ordered a BLT sandwich for the train. Got given a greasy, fatty bacon bap with avocado. The bread was soaked in grease which had a fishy essence. Repulsive.

We have visited this eatery on several occasions for brunch and all you need to know is in the title of this review. The premises are always clean and tidy, with friendly and efficient staff. On offer are daily specials and a range of traditional snacks and dishes. All reasonably priced. The soup is homemade and the "traditional" breakfast consists of very good quality ingredients, well presented on a sensibly sized WARM plate. Well done The Fat Fig, for how often does one eat out and alas find your "hot" food served on a cold plate - too often! We will continue to visit when in Chichester and if you are in need of good food, freshly cooked, in clean surroundings, at a fair price, recommend the Fat Fig to you.

We had a great time at the fat fig this morning for brunch. Found the place by surprise and staff were very friendly and efficiant. Delicious and reasonably priced brunch- will definately visit again!

What a pity we didn't discover it sooner, we surely need to make up for lost time! Our first time yesterday, breakfast with my daughter. Definitely remarkable. A rich and evocative menu, well-prepared and impeccably presented dishes (a feast for the eye!), hearty and exquisite portions, served in record time by a friendly and caring staff. For me the succulent Mediterranean Breakfast, for my daughter a magnificent Full English followed by a delicious carrot cake, all washed down with the best espresso Chichester has ever known. A princely breakfast, which no other overrated coffee house in town can offer.

If you need a different breakfast experience, you must try the Fat Fig - incredible fresh food with a twist and the coffee is excellent also!

This is such a quirky and brilliant little place to eat. The food is always hot and served in good time. It’s a very clean place to eat. The staff are always smiling and are pleasurable to chat to.The menu is well thought out with a good variety of choices. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for. Today, I had the sausage and caramelised red onion sandwich. The food was hot and well presented... and bloody tasty. Washed down with an ice cold cokeOverall, a lovely and warm place to visit. Definitely recommend.

We went there today, we have been there before on a Sunday with out any issues, but today was something else.It was busy we except that but 50 minutes wait for our breakfast.No apology, no checking on us to see if it was OK. Even when we got our food still no apology. The food is still nice but 50 minutes come on.

Having visited here a long time ago and was underwhelmed by the service etc, I was reluctant to revisit at the behest of a friend.The service is much improved and food excellent. Not sure if it is a change of management etc but would certainly recommend a visit.The Goates Cheese salad was excellent. In fact couln't eat it all!Not an expensive meal either.

On cloudy cold day what’s nicer than a cupper in the town .The tea and cake was promptly served . The cake was a bit dry . When on display the restaurant needs to keep an eye on how it’s displayed and stored to keep it fresh .

Visited the above for breakfast, will be going again. The food was very good, hot, cooked well, nicely presented and good value for money. My only negative comment was regarding the air conditioning, which was blowing very cold air and the place became rather drafty and somewhat uncomfortable.

Without doubt the most unfriendly, uninspiring place in Chichester. Staff hate working there and food bland beyond belief. Avoid.

We actually visited 4 times for lunch on our recent visit to Chichester - it goes without saying we would definitely recommend! The food is really good, fresh, quick to arrive and not too pricey at all. Would recommend all of the burgers, the Mediterranean breakfast was amazing, so is the fat fig salad, avocado & bacon sandwich and the veggie breakfast too. Staff are friendly. Restaurant is big and pram friendly too.

Coffee here (acc to my g/f) is the best around. I enjoy the Paninis & they often have some superb looking cakes on display. Service is fast, friendly & efficient.

We went in just before twelve and hoping for breakfast which they serve all day . Daughter had huge English breakfast - great quality and I had the Mediterranean breakfast with super yummy homemade Borek andhaloumi, feta, olives tomatoes eggs and Turkish sausage . They made me a sugar free blended iced coffee and everything was delicious . Definitely a g to go back as they have lamb Kleftiko on the specials menu - portions were great and really lovely people serving .

Stopped here for quick lunch on route home, and that’s exactly what it was as food was served promptly. We both had a sandwich these were definitely not lacking in filling. The table next to ours was enjoying a full breakfast which looked very appetising. Perfect if you want a breakfast or lunch

Chicken burger and chips with salad was a good sized portion with chips and salad included for just £6.95. One in our party had the chicken and mushroom pasta and was substantial with big pieces of chicken. Drinks came quickly too

Great food at reasonable prices. We have been here a number of times and it never fails to impress. Very clean, great cakes and good coffee. Lasagne is always a winner. Love the ceiling plant.

Fresh and tasty cooked breakfast, using quality ingredients. Reasonable prices too boot. The regular sized cooked breakfast is more than sufficient to satisfy even the biggest of appetites. As such they do offer a 'half portion' option for those with a smaller appetite. The staff were equally as impressive. I'll be sure to pop in again when I next pass through.

We stumbled upon the cafe without having read any reviews and were so happy that we did. The food was excellent, they were more than happy to swap and change things for our children. Service was quick and friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere.
