The Farnham Tandoori in Waverley

This is a great place for authentic Indian cuisine, the takeaway is as lovely as the restaurant food, have eaten here and used their takeaway service for many years, thought it’s time to share the place 🙂 the staff are friendly and super helpful, minimal wait for your food order to arrive which is always piping hot, great value and a joy to eat.

Came here with my wife for an impromptu evening meal. No complaints about the service; some really friendly and genuine waiters here. My main gripe is the meat that made up my tandoori mixed grill. The lamb was far too overcooked and gave the impression of almost not being cooked on the night? The chicken leg was the worst bit - mostly made up of tasteless, wierd coloured gristle and bone. Not a lot to write home about. The lamb kebab was passable as was the chicken shashik. Its a shame not to be blown away by the main, especially as this was a rare treat night out. Naan breads on the other hand, we're fresh, crispy and delicious. Apply the sides preparation approach to the mains, and it could be a winner... not sure I'll be back.

I have visited this place on and off for a few years now and its definitely my favourite curry house around.

We came here as a small wedding party of about 16 people. The welcome was first-rate with the starters coming quite quickly. They were very good. Then came various courses for the main meal including rice. The kormas were particularly good - the sauces were sweet and thick - excellent. The toilets were nice and clean. So a really good experience all round!

Probably the worst curry I have ever eaten . Swimming in fat and fluid and totally tasteless . Actually quite revolting and made me feel physically sick

11 months after last getting a tasteless, 3-star takeaway from this place, has it improved? Nope. The Chicken Tikka starter, Bombay Aloo and Garlic Naan were just about passable but not the rest of it. Slurry. You know something's wrong when there's a sea of orange/brown oil in the bottom of the carrier bag when you get home. Almost every dish was swimming in it and it was leaking out of the cartons. The Prawn Puree was soaked though, a lump of doughy, half-cooked puree bread weighed down with a morass of tasteless slop with prawns in it. The Mushroom Bhaji was so oily as to be inedible without being drained first. And so it went on. How this place gets 4.2 out of 5 stars is a mystery and a sad indictment on the quality of curry houses in Farnham. Had I not been 20 minutes drive away, I'd have taken it back and demanded a refund. £40 wasted. Absolutely shameful.

Everything about this restaurant screams mediocrity. Everything was fine, but nothing was particularly good either. Mains were pleasant, but lacking in anything special to raise them about any other curry house. Staff were averagely friendly. Only beers on offer were the boring but standard kingfisher and cobra. So no real complaints, but at the same time no real reason to return. There is nothing memorable at all here, and I can't help but think in todays tough times restaurants should try and offer at least one or two things that feel a bit special.

Food was clearly not cooked fresh. Slow to arrive and we were the only people there. Very sad as it used to be quite good. Service was so slow and they only had the four of us to worry about

A group of 17 club members were welcomed in The Farnham Tandoori restaurant on a Thursday evening in February. As was normal practice, the venue was booked two weeks in advance with confirmed numbers. It became noticeable that the staff numbers were a bit low, especially as it turned out, in the kitchen. After placing food orders and all getting a drink, which took some time longer than is usual, we waited for our main meals. Sitting in smaller groups across four adjacent tables, it became clear that we weren’t going to eat together. Half of the group were served their meals, whilst the other half waited. It was as if the restaurant were unable to prepare more than 8 or so meals at once. In fairness, when the food did arrive, it was of a good standard. The second ‘shift’ didn’t get their meals until the first half of the group were all but finished theirs. Disappointing, and if the venue couldn’t manage the numbers, they shouldn’t take the booking.

Popped here last night for the first time in a while. Hadn’t booked but they arranged a table for us. Service was friendly and swift but everything else was just a bit average. Was really in the mood for a curry but left feeling a little disappointed. The Korai and Biryani we ordered were both a bit standard and lacked any real flavour or character. I wouldn’t put people off trying it but won’t be rushing back myself.

Had a delicious takeaway from the Farnham Tandoori last night. All the dishes had lots of flavour and a good crunch where there should have been. Yummy.

Turned me away again as a solo despite lots of tables free including single tables where staff had been reading newspapers. Solos clearly not profitable they assume. Avoid. The food on other tables had the same colour sauce and looked crap anyway so dodged a bullet. Up their own ars*s....hope they go bust and taken over by owners who look you up and down and say no, obviously thinking a random bus load of tourists will imminently arrive. Went to Giggling Squid instead and it was awesome

The food is pretty bland and like a curry house from 20 years ago. The staff are utterly disinterested.

Recent visit away on busine ss...friendly staff nice decor warm welcome. Prompt service varied menu..good quality food , balti wasn't as hot as expected even in nagla chillis but tasty...no hot rags after meal ? Odd... fairly good value ...are better options nearby by still a good meal and would return

The curry was swimming in oil or ghee. The sauce was good but was spoilt by so much oil. It’s not necessary, had lots and lots of very tasty curries without so much oil. Just a suggestion. Felt our take away was quite expensive given the sauce was so oily. Otherwise great service inside restaurant and take away.

I visited Farnham Tandoori with some friends. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Food was lovely. Would happily return.

Always end up in Farnham late and need food and have had a great range of excellent meals and great service ,they also have a great value buffet on a Sunday evening worth a visit definitely

Ordered here after fairly good reviews ... Wish I hadn't bothered . We had Chicken Tikka Korai and Lamb Jalfrezi. Bombay potato. All tasted the same. Sauce was all the same colour and quite watery . Don't waste your money

Midweek evening meal in late October and the restaurant had several other diners and more arrived while we were there.The food tasted authentic and was of good quality. Service was fine - albeit they weren't all that busy.Based on one visit, I'd recommend it to others and would be happy to go again myself.

Been getting our Indian takeaway meals from here since we moved to Farnham four years ago. The food is excellent and never drops in quality. The staff can appear serious but once you get to know them they are great.

Came here without booking, we were welcomed and sat at a very nice table, the food was excellent the staff however were not so.....just need to be more friendly, and approachable.....don’t forget who pays your wages! Not sure I would bother again there are better Indians in Farnham

Very disappointed having used the restaurant in previous years and had lovely meals to today having something that was very poor totally tasteless with tough chicken and awful stodgy rice cannot believe how standards have dropped couldn’t possibly recommend a visit .

On visiting here on a weekend away I can say the food was piping hot but the staff made it seem like we were an inconvenience, no smiles, please or thankyous. Not our usual 'Shad' experience but nice food. Be aware though the chicken tikka masala comes with rice!!!! So dont over order

Visited on a Sunday for the buffet. I’m from Slough where the Indian restaurants are authentic, tasty and wholesome, so should have lowered my expectations when coming here. It just didn’t cut the mustard. All the food was very mild and not spicy enough, and often lukewarm! The choices were also quite limited but for the price I can’t complain too much.

A long while since I last visited this restaurant and I am pleased to say that it is still very good. Tasty food, no problems with service. I heartily recommend it as the best Indian in Farnham.

We booked a table of 10 in advance for this restaurant as we were all attending an event in Farnham. The table was booked for 6.30pm on a Saturday night but when we turned up at 6.20pm, they had clearly given it away to another large group so there was a scene where they tried to cobble several small tables together by the door, which resulted in our group being so boxed in that no-one at the back could get out to go to the toilet etc. We waited 1 hour and 40 minutes to get our main courses and when these finally arrived, half of the things we had ordered were missing! The staff couldn't remember who had ordered what and were quite rude. A lot of the food was cold and had to be sent back, it had clearly all been microwaved as some things like the Bombay Potato were still stone cold in the middle. When we asked why our order had taken so long to arrive, we were told that the staff were busy with 'take-aways' - it seemed ludicrous to us that we were de-prioritised as compared to take-away orders that were only coming in that evening! The staff hardly bothered to serve us and so we were left with empty drinks most of the night and they didn't seem to care at all that we were clearly very unhappy! The food was okay but it was completely let down by the awful manners of the staff. It was also very chilly by the door as it didn't close properly every time somebody went in or out. We would have probably spend a lot more money and would have left a decent tip if we had only had some service!! I would avoid this place like the Plague! They didn't even offer us an apology.

Wish they did delivery as always seems busy which given the size isnt hard. The onion Bargies aren’t the best but that’s personal taste ,everything else was top notch ! Ring to confirm a table as busy even during the week !

Myself and my parents visited here on an early Sunday evening for a nice meal after helping out with a boxing event at the local sports centre. We were seated quickly and there were a few others already in the venue. We enquired about the all you can eat buffet and found that the word "buffet" is probably a bit of a stretch. Really it's a few trays of curry and a bit of naan, there's no vegetarian option and it's all chicken. I understand that with the all-you-can-eat option it's going to be limited due to profit margins but it wouldn't have taken much to add a vegetarian korma for example.

was going to visit tonight, wife was booking table, but due to the rude and shortness of the waiter that answered the phone we defiantly wont be going, or recommending you to anyone, you need to improve your phone manner and learn general manners.. poor show Farnham Tandori..

I’ve driven past this place numerous times but only yesterday did I stop. Very glad we did. The food was great - fresh and tasty. Service professional and friendly but not in your face. We hadn’t gone out to dine but found ourselves hungry and very glad this was the place we chose to stop. It was quite busy for a weekday night and now we know why. We’ll be back.

Popped in later in the evening and were welcomed politely and as ever the food was hot and very tasty.

Small restaurant in Farnham town center. As we were looking at the menu outside, a local told us that the food in this restaurant was great, so that was definitely a promising start. My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time recently and it didn`t disappoint. The food was delicious, the service was prompt and professional. We will visit this restaurant again.

Popped in for a quick Sunday evening meal. The food was good, tasty dishes and good sized portions. Some decent looking specials also made it hard to choose!

Three of us went for an evening meal in mid August. The food is perfectly acceptable. The sort of tandoori food you get from one end of the country to the other. Nothing special, nothing that we really distinguish this place from a hundred others. To be honest the food seemed to be very fresh and tasty. The nan was much better than most I have encountered of late.

It is a few years since I last visited this restaurant. The decor is nice and loved the designed glass panels that separated the seating areas. Food was tasty and well presented. Although the staff were helpful, at times some of them looked bored. We were in early (7.30pm) and half the tables were occupied. It was a warm night, so maybe they were saving their energy for later!

A friendly staff overseas the best Indian food I think I have had in many trips to the UK, including London proper. Starting with the fresh four condiment sauces for the papdam, then progressing to substantive and flavorful mains like garlic lamb, moderately spicy but incredibly flavorful. With a delicious special rice with peas and egg, and of course standout breads like chapati and naan.

Went there few days ago with few of my pals. One of the middle aged bald waiting staff was really rude he refused to answer our queries about few dishes. His excuse was apparently he is way too busy to explain. Didn’t even asked for our check but he brought it to us right after he emptied our table. No dessert been offered. I felt so embarrassed infront of my pals. Wasn’t expecting this from this restaurant at all. Very terrible service, rather go to darjilling but not there

I stopped in with coworkers for dinner tonight. The staff were polite and seated us without a reservation, which we appreciated. The menu has a variety of tasty-sounding things and I probably should have been more adventurous. My lamb tikka masala and garlic naan were solid but not extremely spectacular. Judging by some of the meals going past I think this is partly on me for sticking with an old favorite. Otherwise, it’s a lovely little restaurant!

We all had a lovely meal at this restaurant. Cosy interior, great service. Good selection to choose from on menu, and well priced. Only improvement would be for hot plates on the table to keep dishes hot.

As away from home visiting family I had to find somewhere I could ha e a curry. This one jumped out at me for the reviews, glad I listened, great food and friendly, even. If it was just a takeaway. Only down. Side no cheese on my daughters cheese nann. Will be. In area again and will defo use again.

Having been here three times now in the past 6 months and every time has been a good experience I can honestly say the food is tasty and not blazing hot (spicy) but about right for most people. The meat falls apart rather than being like rubber and the flavours in the few dishes I've tried are well balanced in spice & texture.

So very disappointed. Table of 11 booked for a surprise birthday meal. The decided that they would split us all up. Not happy and no apology was given. So we walked out. Real shame as there food is normally great.

Having heard that this was one of the best curry houses in Farnham we decided to collect a takeaway. The staff were very friendly and chatty. And as a fussy spice lover the chicken surma certainly delivered. Even added fresh chilli into my naan to pack a punch. Incredible food and will definitely be visiting more often!

We have been eating at the Farnham Tandoori for around 20 years and have seen it gradually evolve and improve in that time.

As we entered a local told us this was the best Indian resteraunt in Farnham, so that was definitely a good start!

Had an unplanned curry there, lovely little restaurant. I has Chicken Shaslick it was the best I've tried, juicy, and tasty. He had the Farnham Tandoori special, it's a big place and he couldn't finish it but it was scrumptious. Onion barjees to start were nice and crispy not greasy.Service was great too.Will definitely be making a return trip!

Best Indian Rsstaurant for miles. Been coming here for 15 years at least. The restaurant is long and narrow and perhaps a little cramped when busy - which is most Friday and Saturday evenings. Excellent service, the staff are always pleasant and most of them have been there for years. The food is excellent with decent sized portions, just the right amount of heat in the curries and it's one of those places that you struggle to try something new from the menu because what you had last time was so good. Have tried loads of other local Indians but always end up back here.

Decided to return to this restaurant after three appalling meals about a year ago. Pleased to say that we had an excellent meal and a good experience all round. The meat dishes were well flavoured and the vegetable dishes were equally so. Pleasant and helpful service too.

On entering the restaurant, it is very pleasant and you are warmly greeted. I went for the Tandoori meat starter and thats were it started to go wrong. The sheek kebab was tasteless and the lamb was tough. Even the chicken lacked flavour. I then went for a standard chicken tikka curry, which was described as medium. It was bland in flavour and less than mild in strength. All in all, I left very dissapointed.

Undoubtedly this is the nicest Indian restaurant in Farnham. If you haven't tried it, give it a go, you wont regret!

I took my partner and her parents to the Farnham Tandoori and once again it didn't disappoint. Her parents loved it. The service and food was excellent and good value for money. Will be returning soon. Keep up the good work.

We went on a very loud Friday evening and could barely hear each other across the table. Perhaps it was where we were seated or the people alongside us were somewhat louder than normal, but we felt very cramped in - the tables were just too close together! The food was just okay, Korma a little bland, Veggie Dansak way too hot and other dishes what you would expect from a curry house. The service was good and the waiters keen to help. I'm not sure I'd race back on a Friday night, or to this curry house in particular but it is extremely popular so other people must be picking up on something that I didn't.

I've only had a couple of meals at this restaurant but I can already say that this is easily the best place to eat in Farnham. It has a great choice for vegetarians and the service is fantastic. I can't wait to eat here again!

First time visitors as we normally use The Mahann. Tidy, well decorated restaurant and we had a nice table in the window. Service was friendly and good and we were offered a free sprit at the end of the evening. We went straight to mains. I had a King Prawn Balti that was well presented and portion size was good. Unfortunately I found the food to be ok but nothing special and if anything a little bland. In my book there are better Indian's in Farnham.

Upon entry, we were barked at "Booked?" to which we replied No. We were signalled with a finger saying we were being put in the "back room!" Sound seedy already. We were plonked in a narrow alcove behind some stained glass, backing on to the kitchen. Needless to say, it wasn't very comfortable. The food was sub standard to say the least. I am Indian, and was not impressed. My 16 year old daughter can cook better than that! Chicken Ceylon had 4 pieces of chicken in and drowned in sauce, which had raw onions. The Naga Keema left me wondering whether it was really minced lamb?? I asked for Raitha, and got a few pieces of cucumber thrown in a bowl with some yoghurt and hadn't even been mixed together. £1.50 for that slop? When asked why the raitha does not have any spices, I was told that salt and pepper are available on the table! The drinks were slammed down on the table in front of us with no acknowledgement to us. The curries that you can buy from Spice Station in Farnham are like eating at the Kings banquet compared to these guys. Dirty linen was thrown into a cupboard, and just left there. Who knows how that would be cleaned? By the time we left, which was within half an hour, our clothes all smelt of cooking as we were so close to the kitchen. Not very nice when you are off to another venue. I begrudge giving them my money, will never ever go again, or ever recommend to anybody.

Midweek curry visit. Met a the door by a rather unfriendly waiter who had little interest in making us feel welcome. Food okay Nan breads undersized. Curry portion small by comparison with others on offer in the town. Will probably opt for the Mahaan next time which has to be the best in Farnham. IMHO.

The menu was varied and prices very reasonable, the food was excellent with a good atmosphere in the restaurant, knowledgeable and friendly staff, went with friends and would recommend for the quality of food and pricing.

This is a wonderful restaurant which serves consistently excellent curries; the jalfrezi and madras are particularly delicious. The service is always personal and kind, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I love this restaurant and frequent it regularly, as the standard of food is always consistently good. Excellent.

Visited at 6pm, restaurant understandably quiet but was beginning to fill up when we left just after 7pm. I mention this because the staff were not rushed while we were there. We received a cool reception. The food was generally good but not as good as our local takeaway. House wine very good value. We were expected to use our starter cutlery for our main course, I know this is regular practice in France but not in the UK. Our main course was served before the starter plates were cleared. Shashlik is traditionally served sizzling but not here where the dish was just placed on the table. No hand cloths offered at the end on the meal. We saw ourselves out with no acknowledgement from the staff which is unusual. This restaurant has been established since about 1983 and has built up a good reputation, they must be careful not to lose it.

Surprisingly disappointing. The staff were positively unwelcoming. The starters were good but not exceptional. The main course was bland and the vegetable side dish tasted distinctly odd ( like old oil had been used or fish oil)

Decided on the spur of the moment to go for an Indian with my brother in law and he recommended we eat here. It's got a small frontage but inside it stretches down quite narrowly with tables either side of the main aisle. It was actually quite busy for a Thursday night and I got the impression a lot of customers have been before. The poppadom and accompaniments were actually very good but the main course of jalfrezi and rice was bland and without substance. I also expected it to be hotter. Staff did not come round to see how things were and to be honest I just got the feeling we were more of a hinderance. I know you expect background music but the drone got on my nerves. Overall it was a disappointing experience.

I don't usually post negative reviews but feel that after our last two visits I should. We first visited back in July and I wrote a 10 out of 10 review. Our last two visits have not equalled our first which is a shame. Flavours were poor and the quality of the meat (and other ingredients) were not fresh in my opinion - in fact the madras was disgusting and left me feeling ill the next day. What a shame since this was the best place for a curry in Farnham.

Although situated at the end of West Street this small place is always very busy. The food is excellent. It is recommended to book if you want to avoid disappointment.

Definitely one of the better curry houses in Farnham. It could do with a bit of an update inside, but the food and service is great. Well worth a visit.

Had the prawn purée to start it was amazing then to follow lamb Karai, again excellent quality the nann was very fresh.I would defiantly recommend this place.The staff were very friendly and gave great advice about food.

A lot of us went here on a Saturday evening. The food wasn't too bad but the portions were extremely small. My sag aloo was very under seasoned which made it quite bland, the rest of the dinner was OK but not great. Service was hit and miss and one waiter was very impatient and stood over you while you chose. Snatched the menu away as if it was a pain serving you.Would I return......probably not.

Welcoming staff with decent menu. Impressive food with some lovely flavours. We are new to the area who enjoyed well flavoured and spiced food and this is the best Indian we have found in Farnham having previously visited other recommendations from this site.

This is defiantly the best Indian in the area. Food is always spot on, service can be hit and miss at times. Staff are always very attentive however. Book to avoid disappointment.

Went quite late on a Friday night so service was quite good as they weren't busy. The restaurant is clean with a good atmosphere. Food quality and portion sizes were just average. Price wise it was ok for the area. I love my lamb dishes so my main disappointment was the lamb Bhuna which was very bland, had little taste and was made with small cheap cuts of meat, worst of all it was swimming in oil. The other dishes were average. Overall don't think I'll be coming back in a hurry.

Took our family here for a meal and absolutely loved it! We have been living in Farnham for just over a year and have been here many times. The service is excellent and the quality of food is very high. Would definitely recommend!

Visited with friends on Saturday evening, warm evening needed the air conditioning (working in main restaurant area but not in room to rear), food was first class, no problems with portion size, prices were normal for Farnham, staff and service very good.Can recommend the Narga Surma Special and Mrs W loved her King Prawn Bhuna.

Service is always bad. Portions are small (below average for an Indian). I was served shrimp in a prawn biryani. I chose it as my friend wanted Indian and this was 'least worst' of a bad bunch.

My partner and I both agreed it was one of the tastiest Indian's we have had for a long time. Nothing out of the ordinary on the menu but everything seemed to have a flavour that jumped out at you.

We love coming here for Friday night (and Saturday!) curries. The staff are friendly, attentive but not in your face - and very helpful when choosing your meal. The meat samosas are some of the best I have tasted and the chicken momo is wonderful. They will alter the heat of a curry for you - I like dansak but not too hot and this was not a problem for them. It does get busy, always a good sign, so I recommend booking but take-aways are also good.

Have been using this place for around 25 Years. Always excellent food. A bit cramped, but that is part of the experience. Soon start chatting to those on other tables. Again we enjoyed a really good Curry.

This has a great atmosphere. The menu is great and not overpriced. We were lucky to get a table as we arrived early enough and it seems to do a lively trade in take away. I was hopeful that I could try some vegetable pakora as there was chicken pakora on the menu however it wasn't possible to make some. That was the only down side to the visit and I'd recommend it as a very good place to visit.

Three of us eat here towards the end of December. We had all the standard tandoori food, Nan, Tandoori Tikka, masalas, rice and chapattis. Nothing was below average and across the board the food was honest without anything being particularly outstanding. The nans were not really light enough, the masala source very ordinary., BUT the chicken tikka was very good!This is the best tandoori in Farnham Town but that is damming with faint praise. Would I go again? Certainly; I just wouldn't travel far to get here.

Not impressed from the get go- when met by a waiter whom you would have thought he was doing us the favour by us offering to patronise the restaurant. Food acceptable but not palate grabbing- even considering the inordinate amount of time it took to get it to the table. Would not visit again.

The food was average at best but the service was absolutely appalling. We were made to feel as if we were an inconvenience rather than a customer. Would not recommend as there are much better options available in Farnham
