My wife and I have just had a great Sunday carvery, I finished with the Chefs homemade Mango cheesecake which was outstanding 👌. The staff here are helpful, friendly and very polite making for a great experience.

Wanted to leave a review on our wedding that we have just had at the weekend . Karen the wedding planner was first class from helping with all the setting up and being with us both all through our special day . The photo which has been put on is from our wedding and the green room which is a great room to hire for all events , the DJ which was first class and played to our party . Food was amazing with starters and mains which was carvery served at the table . Over all can't really say anything bad apart from think the new owners are still learning and could do with a few more staff when being served and dealing with wedding etc . Our day was still made perfect with the use of the green room and also outside garden which is idle for outside photos . Thank you to Farmers and Karen . From Mr&Mrs Wilkinson. Xx

Well looked after by Abbie and the Nepalese chicken curry was excellent. Super food and service with reasonable prices . Big change from the old Farmers but for the better .

Tap and Grill formerly The Farmers has been given the facelift it needed. Under new management the interior is brighter and the menu updated but still keeping old favourites available. The new manager is clearly trying to keep the regular but sparse customers happy whilst encouraging new. I hope he succeeds! The staff are warm, friendly and approachable, in particular the wonderful female staff member who remembers me everytime I visit ( and I wish I knew her name!) The food and coffee are delicious and at a competitive price. I highly recommend Tap & Grill and hope it goes from strength to strength.

Went there for fish and chips . Are really good large portion, could have shared one order and it would have been enough. Would go back but only in town for a few more days.

Lasagna was lukewarm warm would not recommend it. Steak and ale pie seemed to have been reheated. It was just some lumps of meat in pastry. An absolute rip off.

We had our wedding reception in the green room , one of the function rooms for hire. We had a carvery for the wedding breakfast and then a hot buffet for the evening party. The planning and service along with the food was first class. A special mention for Karen who plans the events she really did go the extra mile. That said all the staff deserve a huge pat. I would highly recommend this place as a venue or if you just want a delicious meal.

We visited the Farmers this morning just for a coffee but it was really enjoyable. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the coffee was excellent and good value - we will be back.

Vinimos aquí hace unas semanas, y aunque no estaba demasiado ocupado disfrutamos de la comida carvery. Volví hoy con la familia para el Domingo de Madres, suerte que habíamos reservado ya que era absolutamente fuerte. Desiertos gratis para todas las madres fue un buen toque, y no hay aumento de precio solo por el día. 👍 Carvery estuvo tan bien como la última vez, excepto que las bolas de relleno eran como balas de cañón 🙈 y la carne solo estaba tibia. En general disfrutamos del almuerzo y volveríamos.

Just had to share our experience at The Tap & Grill @ The Farmers on Saturday evening 22/3/25 for our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebrations. From the moment we booked this venue to the time we left, we were treated with helpful and accommodating service. The staff made it very special for us, with a screened off area just for our family, complete with white tablecloths and warmth!! The food was amazing, Carvery was beautiful and hot and family who had chosen from the Asian menu couldn't praise it enough. The portions were huge and it was all piping hot. Many thanks go to all the staff who helped us to celebrate a very special time.

I recently visited The Tap and Grill at The Farmers and unfortunately, it didn’t meet expectations. I had the lasagna, which was very bland and lacked any real flavor—it was missing seasoning like salt, and overall it just didn’t have much taste. The food was also served cold, which was disappointing. The chips were very limited, almost like they were rationed, which felt a bit stingy. For dessert, I tried the mango cheesecake, but it was equally underwhelming—completely tasteless. Overall, the meal left a lot to be desired, and I wouldn’t recommend it based on my experience.

Han pasado algunos años desde que fuimos, pero siempre he hablado de lo bueno que fue. Fue, siendo la palabra operativa ya que esta experiencia no fue buena. Llamamos antes de ir allí para comprobar que hicieron carvery todavía (nuevos propietarios, nuevo nombre). Dijeron que sí, así que reservamos. ¡Cuando llegamos nos dijeron que no carvery! Como que venció el objetivo de irse. Había un asado en el menú ordenado por dos de los participantes. Tenía pescado con papas fritas. El plato asado tenía un tamaño razonable, pero se agregaron algunas opciones sospechosas, como la calabaza asada. La carne, sin embargo, se recalentó claramente, ya que estaba seco y duro. La salsa era delgada y todo tenía un toque de especia india. El Fish & Chips - la masa parecía que se había agitado frente a la parrilla, ya que era muy anémica. Pero sabía bien y era razonable. El problema más grande que tuvimos fue con el servicio, teníamos un niño de 10 meses con nosotros. El servidor compraba cubiertos a la mesa y los colocaba delante del niño (movidos rápidamente por los padres) , más tarde habían pedido salsa extra que se sacaba en un bote de salsa caliente que también se colocaba delante del niño (solo espacio libre en la mesa) . El problema añadido fue que las instalaciones de cambio de bebés no estaban en las mejores condiciones y también sucias. En general, una experiencia decepcionante y sentirse decepcionado como se nos dijo que podíamos tener la comida de elección por teléfono para luego descubrir que no estaba disponible. Lo sentimos, pero no volveremos.

Sunday dinner time. Had a carvery but not as good as it used to be to be. Gravy very thin and tasteless. Meat and veg was ok but for me tasted very bland. My son’s meal he ordered took ages and he ultimately had to go and ask for his burger that wasn’t very good. Lasagna was also not very good. Maybe the Asian style cuisine served on other days is a better bet as the reviews seem to suggest this is good.

Hoped it would be redone as it's a new takeover but it's all the same inside which is tired. The onion bhajis were overcooked, the samosa was more like a pasty; the pastry was very thick and dry. The katsu curry was bland but the actual chicken was nicely cooked. The sauteed vegetables that came with it were oily so didn't touch them. Quite disappointed really

Tuvimos el carvery y la carne era excelente y buena selección de verduras y patatas en general era muy agradable, buena selección de desiertos, pero necesito conseguir algunas opciones veganas y opciones de GF como no hay crema vegana / gf o crema o helado disponible. También era más cálido que cuando estuvimos por última vez allí, pero tuvimos una buena comida familiar 👍

Menu not very extensive, but food is very good. The mixture of traditional and Asian fusion is handy. The staff were very friendly if slightly disorganised. On the whole, very nice. Prices reasonable .

The menu is varied, with interesting and original dishes. We ordered several items, and each dish turned out to be a real work of art!

Went recently to try out the new Asian fusion menu. Would highly recommend, quality of the food and service was exceptional

Lovely customer service especially Mae and Rebecca they were lovely and very welcoming and always smiling. Cheesy chips and cheesecake were delicious we will be coming back.

Two size plates small or large small being 6in side plate the large being 8in both kids meals at £10.50 and £14.50 how can a dinner be so small for adults

Helpful staff from the beginning . My food was hot (pie and mash was tasty). Wife's Fish wasn't hot , Oily batter, not much taste. (lot of liquid inside fish). Never the less Wife says "lovely staff and nice place."Took a long time for order to come through, so expected better of the fish.

Had a lovely meal of ham, egg and chips last night. 14.01.2025.Friendly staff who were not bothered by me being wheat and gluten intolerant. Definitely will visit again.

La comida era muy buena un montón de carne muy tierna y caliente 👍 pero las habitaciones estaban muy frías 🥶 nuestra madre anciana tuvo que mantener su abrigo puesto y desafortunadamente como es una comedora lenta su cena se enfrió muy rápido, lo que la pospuso comerlo! 🥴 y su taza de té también se enfrió debido a la falta de calefacción en la habitación, una pena como buena comida buen servicio, pero solo demasiado frío para comer allí en esta época del año, realmente necesita mirar la calefacción central todo el lugar para mejorar la cena.

Great value, quality and service. I've loved this place for years. The carvery is always hot, well stocked and fresh. Chef also had a plate of fresh peas sent to our table as not on the carvery at the time c/o one of the waitresses. A simple touch but much appreciated.

Farmers managed to fit in a table of 18 for breakfast at very short notice on Christmas eve so we were really happy. They also put on a buffet which was better than just ordering off the menu. Great quality food, especially the sausages and great atmosphere for us as a large party as we all got to sit together. Really pleased thank you for having us.

It was a shame to find out that Arthur had sold up, but the food etc was just as good. I don't know how people can knock it by saying that it's not as good because it's just as good. Wishing the new owners every success with their new adventure 😊😊😊😊😊

Christmas 2023. Well ok it was last Christmas but we decided to treat ourselves and have Christmas dinner out on Christmas day, we thought although it's Obviously not cheap it would save all the cooking and clearing up etc at home, so 6 of us booked after hearing good stuff about food here, 6 adults from 30ish to 70something. On arriving tables looked nice and then we realised it was a carvery and no service as would have been nice @ Christmas. There obviously was not enough staff working that day, the ones that were there seemed to be working so hard they struggled to clear tables etc, pudding was already ordered when we booked the table months before but after asking 3 times eventually 45 minutes later we got to ask for our puddings. & even the gluten free stuff that was ordered months before for 1 family member wasn't available. I think we paid £70 something each and the service was rubbish due to obviously lack of staff. We are treating ourselves this year and staying at home.

He estado muchas veces para ocasiones familiares X 6 miembros de la familia a los 12 años. 30 ayer 1 calle diciembre tenía el carvery, carne un poco menos de lo que solíamos conseguir! pero buena selección de verduras yorkshire's estaban bien no entusiasmado con las bolas de relleno! salsa podría ser más gruesa, el servicio era genial platos despejados a su debido tiempo y los desiertos eran geniales, era cálido y acogedor y bastante ocupado, pero no tan ocupado como lo hemos visto antes en un domingo. Todos disfrutamos de nuestra comida y teníamos platos vacíos gracias 😃

Great, this restaurant/bar is now dog friendly so we visited for a Sunday meal. Was nicely busy and drinks are ok price. We decided we wouldn't have the carvery, food was mostly cold, we had vegan wellington which felt it was ready so quickly could have been microwaved!!! Will visit again but may have a bottle of wine and tapas next time.

The carvery plate is clownishly small and more expensive than anywhere else.. the lack of options were disappointing.. and the staff were rather rude. This place has fallen off massively and it’s a shame that I can’t recommend it.

We have been going to The Farmers for years with no complaints hence why it was first choice for my husbands birthday meal. Unbeknown to us The Farmers had changed management. The food ordered from the menu and coming direct from the kitchen was fine but the carvery was a different matter. Under previous ownership no matter if you were first served or the last people in of an evening the food was great. We were seated by 7pm & got to the carvery but 7.45pm, no one told us they now close at 9pm. The meat on the carvery was the meat left over, we had the beef that could have passed as rubber, one bit was so dry and the other was near on raw. The gammon was so dry it was inedible. The veg were also the dregs and what was left over hence not everyone got all the veg as it had run out. The Yorkshire pudding was dry and burnt. The beef gravy had run out and the tried to tell us that the turkey gravy was the same as the beef. The staff at the carvery were so miserable with an attitude. The ladies waiting/clearing tables were lovely. We didn’t realise it closed at 9pm as with the previous owner it closed when the last person left. The guy kept coming and checking if we were still there which made us feel very uncomfortable. All in all we will not be going back.

Visited mid week for a meal with my wife i had the pie of the week (Turkey Ham and Mushroom) couldn't see any ham or mushrooms in the pie the roast potatoes seemed to be the frozen version the vegetables were very solid and the kitchen staff had already poured gravy on the meal this is a no no for me i like to pour my own gravy on my meal.My wife had the Gammon which was as thin as bacon rashers and there was obviously the same problem with the vegetables and gravy we didn't enjoy the experience at all and wish we had stayed at home in summary we paid top price for what amounted to the equivalent of a frozen microwave dinner in presentation and taste.

First time visiting and I thought it was lovely! Very nice,spacious restaurant. Quiet for a Friday night but I don't mind that. We both had carvery. I'm vegetarian and there were 3 veggie options. I had the Mediterranean tart and it was so delicious and flavoursome. The veg and potatoes on the carvery were also really good. The cauliflower cheese was delicious. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. It's a shame there's a few bad reviews as I honestly couldn't fault it...will definitely be returning!

Popped in on the walk home from my son's footy match. Got in before 12 midday & was very quiet. Had a quick pint & a hot chocolate for my boy. Was going to have a cheeky slice of cake, but it was 7.45, but it came with cream or custard!? Settled for the carvery & can't fault it as it was decent. I can see why people go as the size of their plates were huge!

First time having a carvery here. Food was very delicious. Very generous serving of meat. We had the beef which was very tender. Good selection of vegetables. Staff were friendly and on the ball. We were full but really wanted one of the amazing deserts, I asked if they did takeaway and they said it was no problem, although the portion was small for the price of £7.50 We will definitely be regulars.

Wanted to wait until I had calmed down from our experience yesterday for my father’s 75th Birthday. I haven’t so here we go!! Utter shambles of a place. Greeted by a very petulant man who showed us to the green room and not to the middle room that we had booked for the function. No apologies at all just the attitude of like it or lump it. The food was of a very low standard in my opinion. Bland tasteless meat accompanied by overcooked and stodgy vegetables topped with gravy that looked like an oxo cube had been dissolved in water. To top this dining extravaganza we were then told that whilst we were able to light candles and sing Happy Birthday under no circumstances were we to serve and eat the cake. Having travelled from Australia to celebrate this with my father I am extremely disappointed with how we were treated!! I will never set foot in the place again and will advise friends, family and fellow travellers to avoid this place at all costs!!!

Booked yesterday for a table for 4 of us for 2pm arrived on time , no recognition of us booking it was so so busy that we decided not to stay and left

I today dined here, and it was a carvery experience like no other—unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. The roast beef was more akin to a shoe leather substitute, and the gravy had all the richness of a watered-down soup. The vegetables were so overcooked they could double as mash, and the Yorkshire pudding was more of a sad, soggy pancake. If you're looking for a carvery that will test your appreciation for traditional fare, this one definitely leaves an impression. Will not be attending anytime soon or a matter of fact again.

Aren't allow to eat the cake we made for our grandads 75th birthday. We could cut it. But not eat it. Only 1 nice member of staff in the place. Will take our money elsewhere next time.

This place has gone right down hill, used to love the carvery but now food is dry, tight with the meat, lack of choice for veg etc, just bland and expensive. Won't be going back. Such a shame cos place used to be buzzing but it's not now. But mean few miles down the road at Toby.

Great Carvery, the meat and veg were excellent but the Yorkshires were floppy. There were a ton of children which were noisy af but they can't really help that. The staff were exceptional though, super friendly and happy to help, they also gave great recommendations for desert.

Nice carvery, found Yorkshire pudding way over cooked. No mash potatoes and the roast potatoes this time we're over powering with salt and pepper so couldnt eat any. Went to a funeral wake.... Shocking they sandwiches for vegetarian are mixed with meat and fish. Scones were very dry and weren't served clotted cream.

Lovely carvery but gravy a bit thin

Went here for breakfast this morning with my wife. We had two full English breakfasts, pot of tea, coke and a hot chocolate. The food was absolutely lovely best fry up I have had in years. Service was also very good the lady was very polite and helpful. Spot on 👌 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have used the Farmers a number of times in the past and while it's not expected to be gourmet, it has always been pleasant. Not so this time. Visited for a Sunday carvery 11th August, around 17:30 The meat options were a scrag end of turkey, gammon which looked tired, and a dried out and overdone beef joint. The vegetables were similarly awful. Everything looked like it had been there for hours. There were two roast potatos. I asked for more and a new tray was brought out from below. Dried out and overcooked. There were two limp yorkshire puddings. There were two cauliflower florets. The parsnips were dried out and overcooked (but tasted ok) It looked like end of service had been reached and they were ready to throw things away - but still happy to serve to customers. At £14.50 a plate this was daylight robbery & I will not be returning. If you go, I suggest looking at what's on offer before parting with your money.

Sadly once we returned home my wife and I both began to feel unwell and have suffered with upset stomached and nausea which has continued through the night into this morning . We have been coming to the farmers for years and have never had such poor quality food and I’m feeling pretty disappointed with the evening and having spent £98 and now feeling ill.i look forward to your feedback.

Had a fabulous lunch here yesterday. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The food was amazing, well presented and hot. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone and will certainly be returning. Thank you guys we had a fantastic time.

Excellent food, service and surroundings. The staff went out of their way to look after one of our guests suffering with anxiety to find a secluded space for us to enjoy our meal. Highly recommended and we will be returning very soon.

We stopped for breakfast right when they opened on Saturday morning so the whole place was empty like ghost town. Breakfast was nice freshly cooked ( fried and scrambled eggs,bacon, sausages, baked beans, tomatoes, black pudding, mushrooms and hash browns)but it could have been hotter. It was just lukewarm. Personally I didn't mind it not being hot but my partner did. Anyway... It was a good value for the money and it was conveniently on our way to where we had to be. Will go back next time we are in the area. Recommended.

We had a carvery and pizza Pizza cheese was super chewy And carvery chicken was dry and a lot had ran out:. No music or ambiance..

I attended a wake held in the Green Room... lots of space, plenty of seating with patio doors that open and look out over the garden. The buffet looked delicious with plenty of variety. Unfortunately I have dietary requirements...gluten and dairy free. The charming server checked what they could do for me....ending up with jacket potato with beans and salad, very nice and at no extra cost. Nothing was too much trouble for the serving staff who were polite and friendly.

First time there and enjoyed the food and wine. Had the carvery and was given a good amount of meat. Great selection of veg available. Dessert was delicious.

I was really pleasantly surprised by The Farmers. We rang ahead as I have celiac and wanted to check that they can offer a gluten free carvery and they advised that they could. When I arrived, I went to the main carvery counter and was told all gravy is gluten free which minimises any cross contamination. I got my carvery and returned to the table to find specially made gluten free cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding. It was a lovely touch. All of it tasted amazing and I felt safe eating there! I’d definitely recommend to others who have a gluten allergy.

The staff were very efficient and friendly, the food was great. Only scored it down because the tabletop was sticky and the general decor was tired and rather dark.

Local to me, always great service. Carvery is excellent, great value & compared to some other local carveries the food is always fresh. The atmosphere and interior are top notch, you never feel couped up or that the table next to you is anticipating your next mouthful. A nice outdoor area for those warmer days also. Well worth a visit.

We went for the beer festival. Really enjoyed watching The Extremities, the ale, the cider and the food was excellent.

Great food & the staff are superb, efficient yet you can have a chat/laugh with them.

A great meal as always. Desserts are a bit expensive.

Very disappointed, beef was inedible and impossible to cut or chew ,we told waitress ,she was gonna tell someone ,but we did not get a response . Parsnips were hard ,the other vegetables were ok,mint sauce seemed to be mostly vinegar ,and spoiled our meal further. Dessert was awesome ,raspberry brulee cheese cake ,spectacular.The space in the car park maybe shows standards are not as good as they were . It isnt difficult to find this standard anywhere now ,but cheaper .

We went in for a carvery today. Meat was lovely, veg over cooked and roast potatoes were not very good. Over all food was disappointing for the cost but staff were helpful.

Started poor finished excellent. Booked a table for 17 on Mother’s Day and they said no problem. Arrived and we were seated on 2 separate tables. A bit awkward but The chap said well that’s how it is and you wouldn’t get seated anywhere else on a Sunday. Not the way to speak to a customer really.Anyway we rejigged the room about and eventually got the 17 together. 14 had the carvery and it was lovely and the other 3 had vegetarian meals that were equally impressive in both taste and portion size. So it ended on a high after a shaky start. If they didn’t or couldn’t seat 17 people together then don’t take the booking in the future. Booked a month in advance and paid a deposit so they knew we were coming

Very disappointing carvery, the veg were so overcooked they were almost indistinguishable as they had gone to such a mushy consistency. No food labels advising what each dish was, however the gravy was labelled beef and chicken…but I was told it was vegetable! Finally when taking a photo of the dessert blackboard to show the family, I was told ‘there’s no point doing that, it doesn’t match what’s in the cabinet’. Certainly won’t be going back
