We called completely unplanned, this was due to an accident on the A14, so the sat nav took us on a diversion We needed somewhere to stop for a drink and tithe loo. We called in had a glass of pop and very pleasant hour’s break from the traffic. The man behind the bar was excellent, really chatty and very helpful. We hope to call 8n for a meal next time.

Friendly welcome. Superb beer quality. Went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Good pub food & plenty of it. Great place to stop by on the walk from Huntingdon to Godmanchester.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff

We were in the private room for a steampunk style wedding. There was a free buffet as an aperitif, with chicken conscience, baked potatoes, chicken nugget, and various roasts, followed by the roasted pork with its apple compote and a kind of cereal puree. With coleslaw and other accompanying salads. All delicious and with precise and friendly service. Much appreciated

We went to the Black Bull for our tea, and it was excellent. The staff were really good, and clearly care about the experience you get when you visit this pub. Very helpful really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good and great value for your money. We will definitely be returning for another meal

Last night we stayed at the Black Bull for the first time and had a brilliant experience. We stayed in the Stirling room, which was spacious even with a travel cot and large dog bed to navigate. Our room was directly above the pub area and we were pleasantly surprised that you could not hear a sound from below even on a Saturday night. The room and premises were spotlessly clean, comfortable and welcoming. Staff were friendly and professional. The food was delicious and all prepared on site, we stayed today for the father's day BBQ and enjoyed the large pub garden after a beautiful walk around the nearby river. Overall, this offered great value and a relaxed, comfortable stay. We'll definitely be back!

Cozy pub with lots of events throughout the week, including live music and bingo, and a spacious function room. Owners Jez and Lou and bartender Ben are lovely and always make you feel welcome.

Great day out as they held a mini festival , great activities , great atmosphere and really enjoyed the afternoon

Update: After posting my review, the owner of the hotel asked us to leave. He was abruptly calling my husband during an important business meeting with a request that we must leave ASAP. In the meantime, when I saw the reply to my post, I phoned the hotel to ask what was going on. "Steve" introduced himself as the owner and said that I should have talked to him before posting such reviews. He mentioned that he hadn't thrown our stuff on the street, only because we were staying with our baby. When I called my husband, he said we are going to leave as requested. This place wasn’t worth that kind of stress. We left to stay at “The George” instead. Shame we didn’t stay there from the beginning, as this hotel was amazing. No REFUND was provided though. Lovely place and tasty evening meals, but we are disappointed and I would NOT recommend staying here as we were denied from a request to have breakfasts as “other guests didn’t ask for that”. No hairdryer in the whole building, total joke!

They kindly accommodated our timing for our Monday lunch. The portions are very generous and the food really tasty!

A welcoming historic pub in a lovely town, and a fantastic stay. The weather was very kind to us so we got to enjoy the lovely beer garden. We stayed over and our room was cosy, with a comfy bed and a nice powerful shower. We also had an evening meal, there is a good choice of traditional pub grub and what we ordered was delicious (so much so that we decided to stay a bit later to have Sunday lunch before heading back home, this was also superb). The evening we stayed there was also an excellent singer, and we got to make friends with the locals and staff, who were all friendly and super lovely. Last but by no means least, a good ale selection! They have a couple of permanent beers on and then apparently rotate/experiment with other ales regularly, and no complaints from me there!

Recent trip to the Blackbull after years of not visiting. The new owner is incredibly passionate about the pub and you can see the love that has been put back into it. This place holds a lot of childhood memories for me, my mum was there as staff for 14 years! It's refreshing to see someone love it as much as it deserves to be loved! I can't wait to see it thriving again! I'll definitely be back!

Just popped in for a quick half whilst killing half an hour at lunchtime. Decent old style English pub with a week full of activities, music and meal events organised by an active landlord.

Fantastic food and great welcoming staff

Great place! Went here while we were getting work done on the car. They opened the kitchen early for us which was really nice of them and the food was delicious. Partner and I ordered burgers and chips thinking it would be usual fast food quality but the burger was so thick the chips were crispy and the ingredients were so fresh. Staff are lovely and welcoming and the atmosphere is really nice. Definitely recommend for a lovely lunch somewhere out of the way.

Lovely place and at a very competitive price. Godmanchester is lovely, the staff were great and the room was immaculate. I don’t think I’ve ever slept in a more comfortable bed too!

Decided to try this pub for Sunday dinner with my nephew and friend as was dog friendly. However the food was awful. The toast potatoes were old and stale. The chicken was chewy, gravy was like water and carrots were practically raw and everyhing was luke warm. I did complain and they said sorry it wasn't to your taste and just refunded by nephews plate of food. We paid £14 a plate...was not impressed and definitely won't go back unfortunately

We were recommended this place for a wake for my late brother. The food, service, place, and staff were excellent and at a great price. Many thanks to Cheryl and Lily, who looked after all of us. Having your own private room was perfect. Jess, the landlord, supplied a TV so we could show pictures from our laptop. Excellent all-around and highly recommended.

We walked in without reservations and luckily they seated us. Great atmosphere on a weekday, just the old building alone. Soup was good, and dinner pie was good. Nothing bad about this place. I recommend.

First impressions they say, well this place has certainly got it going here, real ale beer is fantasticly well kept, the staff are all so nice takes you by surprise really. Dog friendly all over what more could you ask for? Will hopefully enjoy a great night with good food and even some folk music! Well done to all it does get noticed this is how a local pub should be. Forgot to add food very good indeed plates hot, generous portions great all round, such a welcome surprise. New owners doing it all right, keep it going line this and people will notice.

Amazing pub. Staff are super friendly and a huge asset - I asked how much a plate for a plate of roast potatoes that the bar staff were eating, they weren't for sale but they gave us a plate for free as they had some left overs in the kitchen. New favourite pub in Godmanchester and will have to return for a full roast - the roasties were sooooo good! P.s start selling roasties - we'd pay for another plateful :p

We stopped just for one night after visiting friends locally, The pub was shut ( it was boxing day evening ) but the room was warm and clean, friendly helpfull staff, thanks Ben

We had my granddaughters wake in the hall at the Black Bull. We can't thank them enough. They were extremely accommodating for us at such a sad time. Great parking. Would recommend

We popped in for a pint on a Saturday late afternoon. I have to be honest the lager was poor, warm and with a worrying tang, the bitter wasn't much better. We later found out there were new Managers in that weekend so maybe it had been left in a bad way for them. Its a nice place in a good location so maybe we'll try again in the coming months.

Nice pub, friendly service. Unfortunately the beer that I had (Marston's) was a bit tasteless.

We visited the pub twice this weekend. Once for the pub warming for the new owners and again for Sunday roast. Both were lovely events and we were welcomed like family. The roast was delicious and the service was excellent. We'll definitely be visiting several times in the near future!

Great Sunday roast staff very helpful and friendly

Rooms are just ok for a night stop, can be a bit noisy at times. They so have free parking and a pub not sure of the timings. Note: no one at reception to check you ok so had to just leave my keys in the room and leave, no instructions etc given during check-in

Booked the function room, for my daughter’s special birthday. Staff extremely helpful and communication good beforehand and on the night, where they really helped to make sure everything went smoothly. Thank you so much. Lovely food & thank you also for catering for guests who could only eat gluten free. The function room is an amazing venue for a party - absolutely perfect for us and would very highly recommend.

We were out walking in the area and saw the signs for the Black Bull, glad we did, amazing Sunday roast and the gravy is awesome I had to get some bread to finish it off. Ciders and beers on tap with a relaxed atmosphere a great place to stop and recover.

Booked a table for a Sunday afternoon to have Sunday roast. Called the pub in the morning as I had booked twice and needed to cancel one booking so someone else could have the table and the gentleman I spoke to confirmed the time and asked us to arrive a little earlier so that we could get our order in to the kitchen before closing. This wasn’t a problem at all however, we arrived 15 minutes before our time and the 3 ladies behind the bar acted strangely. All turned around talking to each other, not greeting or acknowledging us, and one walked off. After a minute or so, one woman turned around and acknowledged us. We said we have a booking to which she said “you haven’t checked your voicemail have you”. I thought this was odd as we hadn’t even given her our name. Checked both phones and no voicemails but she proceeded to say there was an issue with the kitchen which meant we couldn’t eat. There was no empathy from the staff, it was more like we were being an inconvenience to them. We then had to drive around and find somewhere else to eat with our one year old son. Will never book to go there again due to the rude staff and lack of organisation. Terrible service. A sincere apology or actually calling us to cancel would have been appreciated and accepted but neither of us received a missed call or voicemail so they just lied instead.

The Black Bull has been restored to a great pub the way it used to be when it was the best pub in Godmanchester 30 years ago 👌 Back are the cosy leather chairs around an open fireplace and gone are the cafeteria style tables. The outside of the pub has also been restored, making it look amazing 👏 Hopefully, they will now recruit some exciting and welcoming staff to attract new customers and make the Black Bull the best pub in Godmanchester once again 👍 🤞

Great little Pub and Accommodation. The room we stayed in was clean and tidy and very comfortable Bed. The Pub down stairs has a warm friendly feeling with helpful staff. Close enough to Cambridge and attractions.

Family Sunday roast , fantastic food in a great atmosphere the chef is a real credit to this destination which has plenty of charm. Amazing roast dinner .. will come again .

First ever visit to the Black Bull in Godmanchester which sits on the main road a couple of minutes from Huntington ring road. Outside looks clean and tidy and quite welcoming but unfortunately inside we were welcome by the dreaded vocal group all hanging round the bar which I’m led to believe included staff or management. Anyway we found a seat which there were plenty to choose from evidently everyone were outside in the garden area. Menus supplied and drinks orders taken we decided on the Sunday roast which when arrived was a decent sized portion and also looked like it included a dollop of ratatouille? We followed up with more drinks and some lovely desserts and the waitress did get round to explaining how busy the outside area was and apologised for the wait inside. Overall experience pleasant but about average and probably wouldn’t rush back there.

The Black Bull is Back and looking like it did 30 years ago when it was by far the most popular pub in Godmanchester! Gone are the horrible cafeteria style tables and back are the cosy leather sofas around an open fireplace. Tried the beer, which was good. Now that the pub looks great inside and out, looking forward to trying their food!

Disappointed. We’d had an excellent meal here a year ago while passing through. It was an excellent pub with a great selection of beers, nice staff and great plentiful food. So we decided to stop again this year. What a difference a year makes…… I’m not sure if it’s changed hands but the food was average and the beer selection down to one real ale. It’s a shame because in this latest experience we may not be back.

Had a lovely lunch at the Black Bull today. Sharing Mediterranean Platter and homemade fish finger Sarnie. Prior to this, I wasn't keen to eat at the Bull, the food just wasn't nice, in my opinion. But, that has changed. Will definitely be back. If I had to change one little thing? I would have flatbread with the platter instead of bread. But that's all. The staff are wonderful. It's a really friendly pub.

Called into Black bull for a drink, acoustic band playing, great atmosphere! Stayed a lot longer than expected. Lovely to see so many local families enjoying the music.

Fantastic Sunday Lunch followed by a great band (which we didnt expect). The place was busy but they servers made sure that our food came out before the kitchen closed (earlier than usual because of the band). Great food followed up by some top tunes and a great atmosphere. Well worth watching out for these events at this pub as its a great all round experience. We will definitely be back

Spent a lovely Easter Sunday afternoon enjoying a free post-lunch unplugged music session - all very chilled and it was great to see the pub full of both old and new faces doing the same whilst sipping some most pleasant ales, well-kept as always. Good job everyone, hope you repeat soon.

Easter Sunday, what a day ! Booked a table for lunch. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating to us a family of 5. Menu for food choice was good especially for 2 fussy eaters in the family. All the food was demolished and even had room for pudding again no compliants there. Was very happy with the service that you provided us. The music topped off the afternoon. Will definitely be back soon.

We met family at the pub at 2pm on a Sunday, for dinner and drinks. The first member of staff we spoke to barked at us that we needed to hurry up and order food as the kitchen was closing. Despite the pub accepting us for a food table at 2pm. We then attempted to order food, but 90% of the menu was unavailable. 1/4 of our party ended up with no food, as there was nothing for them to eat. Unless of course you wanted a Turkey dinner, there was nothing else. Seriously overpriced food at £13 for a roast dinner - Similar quality to what you would find in a supermarket cafe for £5. The tables are all crammed together, barely enough space to sit down at a table. It feels like a school hall, absolutely not a gastro pub. Finally, the staff were just rude. Never have I been to a pub where it is so apparent that you are not welcome. Avoid this place like the plague, get yourself a meal deal from Budgens. AWFUL.

I like to support independent businesses, but this was not a good move for me. The room was clean. The bed was comfy. However, I misinterpreted the website which said they were no longer doing breakfast for non-residents. I presumed that meant they were doing it for residents. Wrong. The places they suggested as an alternative didn't open until nine- not helpful when travelling for work. They were not serving food in the evening because the chef had gone on holiday. I arrived by train/taxi, in the dark, and needed to let myself into the empty building. This felt rather disconcerting. Staying in an empty pub is not for me. The fire security light lights up the room with a green glow which is not conducive to sleep. The shower works if it feels like it- but then the shower tray doesn't drain and you find yourself ankle deep in waste water. I feel sorry for places struggling to find staff at the moment, but if I had been told in advance there would be nothing available but a bed, I would have chosen somewhere different. If you are a couple it probably provides a decent base for some cycling in the area, but make sure they have the facilities you expect.

Had some fabulous food with friends today. Sharing platter £15, more than enough for 2! Loaded fries £7. Red velvet cheesecake £7. There was also a burger or curry which was eaten before I got a pic! It looked amazing. Stunning food will be back again.
