A Sunday night and I thought it would have been busier than it was. Having had the meals I'm more amazed. The food was fantastic, well priced and the service brilliant. This will now be our go to family meal venue. This would probably be classed as a stupid criticism off most ,but the portions could easily be reduced. I was actually looking forward to a sticky toffee pudding desert but the amount of gammon I had put paid to that. Highly recommend......oh and the Loweswater Gold was perfect

Visited with my husband and two children (15 & 10). We are here on holiday and this is by far the best meal and experience we’ve had . The service was absolutely spot on and no idea how they do it. The restaurant was full. Hats off to the staff. The food was incredible, large portions and I’m glad I opted for two starters instead. Salt and pepper squid from the specials and scallops. My youngest had gammon from the children’s menu and it was beautiful. Eldest had the biggest fish and chips I’ve seen and My husband had mussels. I think we were lucky to get booked up the same day. It’s a shame it was our last night as I’m sure we would have visited many times. I can’t recommend this place enough. Remember to book in advance

Pleasant dining area but a bit tired looking. Good choice of dishes on the menu. Pleasant young man served us. Excellent fish and chips. Very generous portions. My seared salmon was nicely cooked but the lemon mash was very acidic and bitter. The salmon should have been served with a mixed salad but it came with green beans and broccoli.

We came across this lovely pub many years ago whilst holidaying in the area and it is as good now as it was then. We now try and come from our home town of Preston a couple of times a year for a day out with a lovely lunch. The pub is very dog friendly and has a lovely beer garden that's lovely when the sun shines The menu always has a great variety and with the specials board too there is plenty of choice. We had Duck Bao buns to start which were a great size for a starter with ample duck, followed by the sweet chilli chicken stir fry which again was delicious with plenty of chicken. The young waitress and bar tender were kept on there toes with quite a few tables occupied but were great at their job and done it with a smile. We look forward to our next visit to this hidden gem.

Such a shame that there is no attention given to customers. Food was lovely ignored by waiting staff who had time to snooze other customers. Having gone to the bar to request service for pudding, coffee etc were instead just presented with the bill after no consultation.

During a 5 day stay in the lakes we visited The Farmers Baycliff twice and each time it was outstanding. We were served by Renee on both occasions and she was so lovely and welcoming, offering recommendations on her favourite dishes from the menu. I had the pork belly main on the first visit and the mixed roast beef/pork on the second and both meals were exceptional! Portions are huge but not slacking on quality. The meat on both meals just fell apart, gravy rich and tasty, mash creamy, all round… a dream. My partner had the soup, salt and pepper chicken burger and the gammon across both visits and was equally impressed. Food, atmosphere and service, were all absolutely amazing. Honestly the best pub food we’ve ever had and we will definitely return!!

It looks amazing don’t get me wrong. But when u zoom into the experience of the steak and the chips… water chewing gum. That is the experience I got. There was no flavour in this £30 quid ribeye steak and the sauce? £4 for just some sauce. The steak was riddled with fat, probably about 50% of the meat was just fat and muscle. Had this medium rare and may look it, but I was chewing watery gum the entire meal. Inedible really. The chips? Just ur common seaside fish n chips really, no flavour and dry. Best thing was the salad and the onion rings. Getting served took a while but the young man was very nice about everything. Great vibes and aesthetic. Maybe just don’t get a steak and other things are nice? Just personal experience

What a lovely afternoon we had for a wonderful meal. The Farmers is a lovely warm and comfortable restaurant bar which is very welcoming. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who I sadly didn’t get her name who asked us to take a seat as our table wasn’t quite ready and we enjoyed a nice drink by the lovely fire. The menu is full of lovely choices and there was a yummy specials board as well. Starters we shared Cheesy Garlic Bread and Spicy Halloumi which was delicious. For main I went for the Cajun Chicken which came with half rice half chips and was absolutely delicious. The service was spot on and at no time were we rushed and nothing was too much trouble even though it was busy and only two ladies serving, it all seemed to flow like clockwork. All in all we enjoyed everything and can’t recommend this lovely pub enough. Will definitely return very soon 😍

3 of is booked a meal over the Christmas period. The pub is nicely decorated. The menu is good with lots of choice. I went for the Salt n Pepper Chicken burger and upgraded my chips to salt n pepper. The burger has lots of pepper, onions, etc for the salt n pepper seasoning but the chips just had a few chilli’s on top so disappointing. My friend got fillet steak and enjoyed it. My other friend got rump steak but it was so tough she struggled to cut it. We all ordered desserts which were nice. Service was ok, we had to chase up the dessert menu a few times.

I booked my wife's birthday lunch here almost by mistake [long story] but I am so glad I did. It took a while to find the pub as we came into the village [how about a sign at the junction?] and from the outside it looked nothing special. But as soon as we entered it looked more "upmarket" than I expected with plush decor and excellent Christmas decorations. We were shown to our table efficiently and the drinks order came fast as we chose our food. I had the scallops for a starter and seafood salad as my main course [after all the meat over the previous week!]. The birthday girl had the soup followed by the burger special. All was first class: my salad especially had loads of smoked salmon, shrimps and bits of tuna with a tasty sauce. My wife said her burger was excellent if too large for her appetite so she gave me some chips. Afterwards I had room for a refreshing affogato while Jen just had a coffee. Overall, a lovely lunch and we will certainly be going there again.

For mains we had burger and chips, gammon and chips came with 2 fried eggs and fresh pineapple, cajun chicken baguette and salt n pepper chips and sea bass with colcannon mash and veg - we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals all fresh and tasty. 1 dessert of white chocolate and raspberry creme brulee that came with a piece of shortbread - was spot on. Great food and service in a cosy atmosphere and it’s still a pub with a bar so just having a drink is ok too. Lovely place to eat with a good menu generously served. I had the surf and turf which is delicious and worth every penny. Good service too by very friendly waitress who was magically there when needed but not fussing around when we were eating - perfect.

Three friends went to this restaurant for dinner and a catch up. The menu wasn't extensive but was very appealing. The starters were delicious, but I had the duck and garlic potatoes for my main course. The duck was well cooked but the 'crushed' potatoes were so heavy in garlic that the duck was overpowered. However, we enjoyed our meal. what we did NOT enjoy was being thrown out at just after 10pm (it was a saturday) because we were the last guests in and the guy wanted to go home! We were not rowdy, and my friends were planning another drink, whilst waiting for one of their husbands to collect them at closing time which we believed to be 11pm, it being a public house after all. The husband in question was out at band practise so could not come earlier. Fortunately, I was driving so was able to take them home, otherwise we would have been stranded in a fairly remote village on a VERY rainy night. It was not a pleasant end to the evening, and we will NOT be going back!!!

We had booked a meal at 8pm for a roast dinner (online says they’re serving from 5:30-8:30pm) turned up and we’re not made aware there was no roast dinners left until after we had ordered our drinks. When ordering we tried to order 4 roast dinners and the womens abruptly answered ‘there are none’ to which we were shocked at as on their Facebook page they never stated they had ran out and on the menu it does no say subject to availability. We had not touched our drinks as did not want anything else off the menu , one of our guests went up to the bar to let them know we would not be eating and therefore didn’t want our drinks as we were not planning on staying. The man behind the bar got rather rude with our guest and said the roast is a lunch not a dinner hence why they had ran out , but no where does it say this , especially when it is called a SUNDAY DINNER, not a SUNDAY LUNCH. We offered to pay for the drinks after he became rude to which he replied no just go, I’ll remember your faces for next time. Very disappointed with the service we received tonight and will not be rushing back.

We were looking for a nice pub somewhere in the Barrow in Furness area where we could treat my aunt to a special 90th birthday lunch. I gather a lot of pubs around there are shut or don't do food on Mondays. So we were thrilled to find the Farmers in the backroads of Baycliff. The service and food were excellent. Everything was cooked and presented beautifully. My aunt, who doesn't give out compliments readily, absolutely loved her haddock and chips. The portion sizes were very generous so she was apologetic about not clearing her plate. We enjoyed our meals too, which were selected from a very varied menu. The barman/waiter was very kind and made us all feel welcome and special. We'll definitely go back when we're next in the area. And as my aunt lives locally in Barrow, I'm sure she will tell all of her friends too. Well done all at the Farmers - and thank you!

Very dissapointed with the food, expected a lot more for the price, I didn't eat my meal as it was not nice , had the chicken burger with onion rings and home made slaw ( defo wasnt) chicken tough , overcooked onion rings just crumbled . The waiter picked up the meal and could see I had not eaten much , wasn't going to say anything but he asked so I told him he just ok I will tell the chef, later the woman in charged asked how our meal was when I explained about the meal she just said we'll it's not normally like that and walked off sorry I've just paid 45 pounds, defo won't be going again , spent 90 pounds in the 2 hours we where there , never again , A good restaurant would take on board what thete customers say and at least offer a pudding , not that I wanted but would of validated the fact they had took on board what we had said , mmmmm .

Dropped on The Farmers on a holiday roam around the Barrow headland. Locals pointed us in the direction as the best food stop in the area. It’s just off the coastal road & what a find. Without at first glance looking overtly ostentatious on the outside, the outdoor area is a sun trap & has an elegant feel, which was an indication of its wonderful feel inside. Fab modern & expensive decor with a lush table layout. Bat area was inviting with some adorable lilies infusing the whole area. Alison was on hand to talk us thru the menu which was just as unexpected, with some exciting plates on offer. We both chose from the specials board. Marion went for the amazing salmon & prawn tagliatelle in a cream sauce, whilst I had the belly pork burger in teriyaki sauce. Both came on fantastic plateware & Chef clearly takes pride in presentation. In keeping with everything, Marion’s Chardonnay & my Pheasant Plucker beer came in equally wonderful funky glassware & both complimented the meal, which tasted as good as it looked. Compliments to the Chef, James? All in all, a great meal out in newly discovered coastal countryside. The sun was shining. Marvellous! Thanks Alison & James for a meal we won’t ever forget. A standout holiday event.

Service was great from the moment we arrived. Seated inside, but there is also an outside area weather permitting. Staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. Food arrived quickly and was second to none. Can't recommend this place enough. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Been a few times before, and never had a negative experience. Give it a go. It may sound churlish to say that the food here is ‘only’ good but not great, but when compared to some of the fabulous pubs in the Lake District this is our experience here. The venue itself is great with ample car parking, inside the restaurant is nicely set out and is dog friendly. The staff were very friendly and accommodating too also not constantly smothering you with continuous checks on your food. This is a locally run pub and I would dearly love it to be excellent, the chicken burger is very good and a nice change from the usual beef burger done elsewhere, however the Thai curry was quite sweet and the steak was quite tough, which is a bit of a shame. I would still suggest visiting, and try the chicken burger which is worth the drive

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.
