So sad to have had such a negative experience in what is such a lovely aesthetic historic venue . 6 of us attended dinner in the Great Hall: Pros: The food is very good ( in both restaurants) The server we had ( when available) was very pleasant and professional Lovely surroundings Cons: Hugely short staffed which meant there was no one to greet us on arrival and we had to head to the farmers bar for more drinks during the course of the evening as there was no staff present in the Hall 60% uplift in Great Hall on some drinks options vs Farmers Bar Food took 90 minutes to be served following our arrival Room was very draughty ( I know it's an old building ! ) meaning some kept on coats throughout- there was a fire but was not lit. Terrible customer service from the Manager - who notably did not apologise or empathise when we felt it necessary to voice our disappointment and then subsequently left me feeling publicly humiliated, as well as offending several other guests - his appalling display will ensure I do not return.

Over the last five years this place has been a relatively quaint location. More recently the weekend day time management have displayed a lack of understanding of the hospitality sector and so I would not advise a visit, Other staff were ok. lunch was brought at the weavers 5 minutes away and was with good food and service.

We visited The Kings Head as a family, I was excited to visit as I had wanted to visit for a long time and learn about the history of the pub, we sat outside in the court yard and were deciding about what food to order and when a member of staff who was watering the plants made a comment about our kids being too noisy, we were quite shocked by this as our kids were not being noisy or disruptive so thought he was just being playful, he then walked past and said something again to our 6 year old about having some respect, I asked him what the issue was and he went on a tangent about teaching our kids some boundaries and having respect, we were mortified as our children were just walking around the courtyard looking at the flowers. I asked to speak to a manager and was directed to the man sat on the bench next to us with a laptop, he said that he agreed with the member of staff and we were being disruptive. I have never felt so embarrassed and made to feel humiliated infront of a garden full of people, we immediately left and told the manager we were disgusted and would never return, we were given no apology or explanation, just a random and unprovoked attack on our children. What a shame such a beautiful venue is run by such unprofessional and rude staff. If you’re thinking about visiting with children then don’t, perish the thought of going to a pub as family for some food and drinks.

Very disappointed, limited menu for Mother’s Day, if I knew there wasn’t waiter service I wouldn’t have booked, on top of that they ran out of some starters so none ordered, we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our mains, the roast beef was covered in jar mustard when it was supposed to be a mustard topped crumb on the beef and also swimming in gravy, these two items should be on the side to add if wanted not everyone likes mustard or gravy, also the food was luke warm, with it being Mother’s Day I would’ve thought they should’ve made sure they ordered enough food. Very disappointed as we were 4 generations looking forward to lunch together. Will not be recommending or revisiting.

We often visit here, lovely pub for a few drinks with an excellent selection of ales and just as good of an option for a meal too. Menu changes regularly and is always pretty small but the food is always great quality. All the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is always great. Lovely beer garden area for the warmer months too. There's definitely cheaper pubs in Aylesbury but this one is always a high quality choice.

Our ‘go to’ venue for the best Sunday lunch in town. The King’s Head never disappoints and today was no exception. Roast beef just melted in the mouth, food was piping hot, beautifully presented with a Yorkshire pudding as fluffy as a cloud and service was faultless. Great choice of real ales brewed locally by The Chiltern Brewery and their signature Chiltern Black is delicious. Great atmosphere which is always warm, cosy and welcoming. What’s not to like about this cracking little pub! A real gem of a place.

I Have been here several times and had lovely food - today something went wrong. The potted chicken was very small and tasteless, full of set butter and finished with nut/seed shells with bread that was near a grill on one side and dry pickles The beef roast was just pink (suppose to be rare roast), very dry hard potato, undercooked sprouts, hard parsnip, barely roasted shallot and the side of buttered veg was just undercooked peas and more sprouts (I like sprouts but not 15) My partner was not happy with his squid salad or burger either (but he eats anything) The worst was it was not addressed at all, no manager on site, no interest from the supervisor and then he disappeared. The staff need lots of training. Sadly will not be recommending anymore.

I really like this pub and the Chiltern Brewery but Sunday Lunch on Remembrance Sunday was disappointing For a start service at the bar was slow and at times confused . Given that we had a booked table for lunch it was ridiculous that we couldn't have a tab so we could pay for the drinks and food altogether. Food service was slow and a passable Roast Beef was ruined by being totally flooded with slightly coloured water passing as Gravy. We asked for Horseradish and mustard which only came when were halfway through our meal. Two friends who specified no garlic found their pork contained garlicky stuffing .My wife and i are looking for a venue to bring a large group of friends early next year sadly it won't be the Kings Head

This was our first visit to Aylesbury and The King's Head which we found completely by chance. A lovely pub, in a characterful building, with a cosy, relaxing, friendly atmosphere. Three of us ordered 'Stew in a cob' - oh my! This was the nicest stew I have eaten and what a fantastic way to serve it! Plenty of meat, some veg and a tasty gravy. Lovely bread too! Great wee pub tucked away off main square in town. We enjoyed a few beers (can recommend the Beechwood Bitter local brew) then dinner. Both had fish & chips which came quickly, was piping hot and tasty. The pub has a cozy, friendly atmosphere with friendly staff. There is also a large outdoor space to back of the pub. I would suggest you hit this wee place for a nice pint and avoid the load brash "spoons" that are dotted around. Pay a bit more but the beer was great.

It is the main pub for the excellent Chiltern Brewery outside of town an serves their range of ales, with excellent cask ales. As you walk up the passage from the square to get to the pub, you’re immediately aware of the historic character of this inn which is reinforced by the little rooms inside and the courtyard beyond which has been cleverly adapted for al fresco drinking / eating. It’s a lovely space with some excellent beers which are displayed on hanging boards opposite the bar (don’t make the mistake I made of approaching the bar to look at the pumps to see what was on offer - I was shooed away and told to look at the boards. I did, and when I was asked which one I wanted, was told it was off). Notwithstanding, I’ll be back.

On our weekend visit to Aylesbury The Kings Head proved to be our favouriter pub. It is a very old, 13th century, building and floral courtyard, accessed by passageways between Market Square and George street, with seating inside and out. Interestingly a caper, gerkin and red cabbage salad served with too. I asked for and spoke to the duty manager. Explained that a backlog affects everyone not one table. They apologised. I pointed out about the bread. They said "we have brought some and what can I do to sort it"We said won't be back. Not my job to suggest a coffee or something. And top it all. My husband and I visited this pub yesterday and neither of us enjoyed our meal.My husband chose the steak and mushroom pie in red wine, which sounded delicious. I had chipolatas and onions. The pie was dry, had no taste and by the look of the pastry, which was so hard, guessed it had been sitting around for a while. The creamy mash was anything but - it was lumpy and dry. The ale braised cabbage had no taste and was stringy so most of it was left. The other vegetables that my husband was served were not properly cooked and also looked of poor quality. The onions that came with the chipolatas were difficult to eat as they were insufficiently cooked. The 'delicious' gravy that was supposed to accompany the meal was thin and without flavour. To finish everything off, that afternoon my husband was unwell with a stomach upset that was clearly related to the pie. Needless to say we will not be returning, would not recommend and would advise anyone else to stay clear of the pie!

We visit frequently and used to love the sharing platters, they were good honest pub grub. Now you've tried to go up market, tiny strips of bread that were hard, looked like crusts cut from sandwiches (used to be 2/3 small warm from the oven rolls each or hunks of bread), Two small pieces of cheese each instead of three good slices of three different cheeses and the rest if the enormous but of wood scattered with one pickled onion instead of two each, two portions of pickle and various scattering of plate fillers. I think the price has also gone up. Can't imagine why as this is not good value for money. One of these used to fill us up. Yesterday we left hungry. We also had the meat platter a few weeks ago, this has also gone downhill. We won't be eating these again unless you revert to the original versions. Leave the tarted up plates to Restaurants and bring back the good honest pub grub you had in the menu before.

The Chiltern Brewery has managed to preserve the feel of a Grade 1 listed coaching inn while at the same time provide up-to-date service, food and beer. For example the courtyard furniture is understated modern and avoids "olde worlde". The ancient interior, too, works perfectly. You order your food at the bar and it is delivered to your numbered table by staff who seem interested in what they are doing, understand rapport with customers and are properly trained. The feeling is totally relaxing - or at least it was when we visited on a sunny, warm day with little pressure on the staff. Food is well cooked and presented with something to please anyone. Pity there was no more haddock because the idea of homemade tartare sauce and a choice of garden or mushy peas speaks of care and quality.

This historic 15th century coaching inn in the town centre at Aylesbury is a true real ale pub, run by the independent Chiltern Brewery. The interior is utterly traditional and the selection of various beers and lagers are excellent. But why, oh why does it not serve any food (apart from packets of crisps) on a Bank Holiday Monday evening? Maybe they don’t think there’s enough trade in the town centre, but with a sold out performance by Sir Ian Mackellen on at the Waterside Theatre just across the road, they really missed a trick and certainly upset this particular customer.

We visited on Easter Monday and they were busy but the barman was on top of it. The issue was one member of staff who should perhaps consider whether a public facing career is right for her. Even the other staff were frightened. At one point she was slamming glasses into the washer and cut the barman short and at another a family with a little girl were curtly told to take the kids sweets of the table. A very historic part of Aylesbury that hasn't been seduced by the developers that love a car park in the one town. Back in the 80's, that's the 1980's, The King's Head was the pub to go to if you wore black and wanted to be surrounded by the local Goths. Nowadays, it attracts a different clientele, that are more experienced in years and seem to like wine. I enjoy sitting outside in the courtyard of this pub, no matter what time of the year it is. It's a very pleasant venue to take a friend or too and have the opportunity to actually speak to one another and have the luxury of hearing one another.

National trust run coach inn, or Chiltern brewery lease?, amazing venue, loads of history, supurb from the passage entrance to the main patio, beers are mostly Chiltern Brewery and as old fashioned as the venue it self, classic or traditional but actually some nice, IPA lovers need to go back to origins and under hop, more for a Camera type drinker, bar snacks also from the past but a must, the near extinction pickled onions are amazing, behond comparison (jars available for retail sale), staff well trained in general and deserve a better treatment than that obsolete McDonald copying uniform, on this one they got it totally wrong, the team is good, friendly and genuinely caring. The toilets are outside, acceptable do to the age of the venue, the Costa coffee styled required code, and the anti higenic lock, seems a forced safety issue do to the toilets being accessible from the street. it's an icon worth the vist, truly recommend if you pop in town

Recommended this pub by friends. Beer was great and in good condition, but the roast was awful. Dry beef, gravy tasted like water and the veg was hard. Starter and desert were very good. But will not be going back there for food. Very disappointed.

Great all round. Plenty of really nice local beer. Only downside is that it isn’t bigger! (Only a factor because there are many other places in town with substantially more space)

Firstly, the pub itself is a beautiful piece of history which is worth a look. However the food we were served was awful. The BLT was cold and bland and frankly I’ve had better sandwiches at school. The bacon fat was congealed and it looked like it had been taken out of the fridge from the day before. The pale baguette was predominantly filled with margarine and only had a little bit of salad. The sweet potato fries, which cost as much as the sandwich, were soggy and tasteless. The waitresses were nice enough but didn’t seem to care about how the food was. Please don’t waste your money here, you can have a nicer lunch anywhere else.

My first visit. Lovely old historic building with plenty of history. A large selection of traditional pub grub. Ordered food at the bar - quick service and food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The burger was by all accounts amazing. I will be going back again when next in Aylesbury. The barmaid was a bit brash and not friendly but aside from that I would highly recommend it.

I lived just out side of Aylesbury as a child and recently returned with my family from Australia to show them the town/area. As it was lunch time we decided to go in to grab a bite to eat in a venue that was very old. The location was good, the atmosphere good (remembering how short people were then!) , the beer selection was from the Chiltern Brewery so it was nice to have a local drink. The lunch selection was good and my daughter particularly liked her wrap.

Let me say first of all I am a fan of the King's Head and the Chiltern Brewery however lunch last Sunday was pretty poor. I booked for a group of us after the Remembrance Day ceremony. I asked to be in the bar not the new and rather soul -less "restaurant room" but this was ignored- they didn't even bother to acknowledge my email. Service was as ever brisk and efficient however the quality of the Sunday Roast was abysmal. Beef overcooked to the point of greyness greasy roast potatoes cold vegetables and a very poor example of a Yorkshire pudding.Several had the fish and chips which they pronounced oK but on a Sunday lunchtime most wanted a roast dinner. We didn't bother with dessert but to cap it all the coffee machine has been broken for weeks. Sad that the chef doesn't seem to realise that many people like their beef rare I heard the next table ask for it as well and for those who like it well done it can be cooked a little more before serving. Having eaten a reasonable meal there before i was very disappointed with this lunchl and rather embarrassed that i had persuaded friends to come with me.

Chiltern Brewery ales are quite simply the best collection of beers I’ve ever tasted. So, I was wondering if the venue and the food could match my expectations (Chiltern run the pub and serve their beers). Both certainly did. We were served an outstanding roast with exquisitely cooked vegetables. However, the best part was the homemade Yorkshire pud which took me back to my youth and the puddings of my grandmothers. The custard did likewise. Topped with outstanding service in the dining area, I can only commend this establishment with the highest of ratings; 6 out of five!

Two of us eat here on a Wednesday lunchtime. We found it by change as it is hidden away down a side alley. It is a 15th century pub and what a little gem. We arrived at 12.00 and the pub was not very full but over our time there it began to full up. There seemed to be quite a few regulars which added to the atmosphere of the place. We chose to eat in the bar area, but they also have a restaurant and a large courtyard with seating. We chose to order of their casserole menu which has three casseroles (beef, lamb and a vegetarian/gluten free option), it comes with a choice of three dumplings, two types of mash and three types of bread roll. We ordered at the bar and food was served at our table. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We will defiantly be back when next in Aylesbury

This is a 15th century inn hidden away just off the main square. Quirky bar areas and a big open courtyard in the centre. Building owned by National Trust. Welcoming with a good selection of local beers and ciders. Wory searching it out.

I really wanted to go to this lovely pub with my family for my birthday, as the first visit the week before was lovely, sat in the courtyard with a sharing platter in the sunshine, gorgeous. However the same couldn't be said for our roast, very bland, the waitress was very miserable, she certainly would not gain any points in customer service. Also I was not allowed to have the candles lit on my birthday cake, bloody health and safety, I've never heard of anything so ridiculous, tiny little candles on a cake. So it has put us off going back for now.

Established in 1455 this is an olde worlde gem just of market square in Aylesbury. Fine local beers and an enjoyable sharing platter with homemade pickles and pork pies. Just the place for a lazy lunch in comfortable surroundings.

This wasn’t actually our first choice, but that was not serving food today, and a couple from out of town asks for suggestions for an alternative and this is where I suggested.

My friends and I had a very pleasant meal here . The food was good and the portions generous. The service was efficient and the staff were charming and it was good to see a designated no smoking area in the courtyard as eating outside is often blighted by nearby and thoughtless smokers.

This is a gem and a real beer drinkers paradise. Simple as. We went for a roast dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We booked on line but didn’t receive a confirmation email until just over an hour before we were due to eat. No matter, we had already committed and had parked already. So we were an hour early, but that didn’t cause a problem and we were given the choice of the dining room or bar. We chose the dining room, which was a nice old heavily wooded old room. The waitress was top notch; very attentive and steeped in customer service. The roast beef was reasonably priced at 12.99 and was plentiful. The “rich gravy” wasn’t quite true on this occasion. However, if you like your beer, this place will completely sate your appetite. The choice is considerable. Visit and knock yourself out. Literally. Great pub.

We visited yesterday and ordered two drinks, a cheeseboard and a burger, which came to over £30! I asked to pay for my drink separately - a Pimm's Cider Cup (the kind that costs about £2.20 in Tesco) - and was charged £7.80! The cheeseboard was very mediocre; four cheeses (three of which tasted the same) served with Jacobs crackers and priced at around £6. My boyfriend's burger and chips were nice, bar a small hair in the chips...

I organised a retirement dinner for 20 here. The room we used was beautiful, oak panelling, stone fireplace, full of character. The tables were set beautifully with white linen and china. The service leading up to the dinner was fantastic, I liaised with Phoebe and nothing was too much trouble. On the night the service was slick and Kerry and her staff worked to make sure we were taken care of. The food was excellent and nicely presented. I would recommend the room, service and food for private functions of any type.

Had an impromptu lunch here over the last weekend. The Kings Head is a large sprawling pub which I have visited for a drink but not eaten. Wish I had tried it earlier. As a "Brewery Tap" for the local Chiltern Brewery this pub has a good range of real ales. The food menu is pretty good and although we only had a light lunch it was very well presented and very tasty. I had the Chiltern Platter which is highly recommended. All in all if you want a quick, tasty lunch, washed down by a good old fashioned, well kept beer, you cannot go wrong.

An attractive old pub owned by the National Trust just off of Aylesbury’s market square, it was reputedly built in 1455 and, appropriately given the pub’s name, a number of kings have apparently stayed here over the years, including Henry VIII. There is a good sized central courtyard which was presumably for the benefit of horses at one time, but is now an attractive outdoor seating area. A courtyard bar has also recently opened here meaning that drinks can be purchased without having to return to the main bar within the pub.

Honestly, what a great night we all had last night at Sizzlers. Lorraine made our night so special and her hosting behind the bar was brilliant! Nothing was no trouble for her. The tables had been decorated beautifully, the singer was fantastic and the food was great. Thank you so much! Lorraine is a credit to the pub! 5***** all the way!

Arriving without booking we were made to feel very welcome. After a glass of wine and chat by the fire we moved to the restaurant for our meal. We asked for a whitebait starter which was not on the menu. The chef kindly performed the miracle for us. We were served extremely well by the polite, cheerful and friendly Rhys. Overall, the food was really good and the relaxing atmosphere just what we needed. We'll be back!
