What a treat ! Warm welcoming and comfortable. Excellent service , attentive and friendly . Now for the food ! Absolutely lovely . We had the set Sunday lunch and there was plenty of it and the flavour or the meat was to die for . Fresh local vegetables cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire puddings fluffy and large . A really nice starter a jug of soup each and super bread nibbles and a chicken liver parfait . I was most impressed at how well I was looked after as I have an allergy to alcohol. Nothing was too much trouble and I had my own soup as the other had alcohol in , it was tasty and sublime . As I couldn’t eat the parfait either they brought me a delicious baked Camembert instead . The main course came in a skillet , to help yourself. Plenty of delicious meat and vegetables . The sweet was a sticky toffee pudding and a lovely creamy rice pudding , better than Mother used to make ! Would I return ? Absolutely and I can’t wait !

We had a great family meal here. All the dishes were well thought out, tasty and interesting. The duck and monkfish fish cakes were a great favourite but everything was lovely. The seabuckthorn trifle was amazing. Nice staff and a friendly atmosphere with style.

This was our third visit last time a year ago but for Sunday lunch this time. Again we enjoyed the meal large leaves of green and large al dente carrots might not be to everyone’s taste but it looked different to other establishments and we enjoyed it. Apple pie was very tasty even though the apples had discoloured not sure if it was the pot or because the apples have been prepared in advance and not kept covered but didn’t detract from the taste. Love Rice pudding but I took of the apricots not that they got left wasn’t much left of anything. Finding the Easter egg surprise and getting free glass of wine gave us something to smile about. Would be nice if we can get back later in the year but if not maybe next year. Kent just a bit far

I don’t normally bother to write a review but this is by far the friendliest, loveliest pub we have been to since our little staycation here in Devon. Myself and my partner visited with our 5 month old Golden Retriever puppy and honestly the staff couldn’t have been any more accommodating, so much so we came back the following day. We will be sure to visit again when we are next in Devon, Otto is already missing the delicious treats!! 🐾

I found the Farmer's Arms on line and the pub lunch menu was just what we wanted for a special birthday treat - a good fish selection for Good Friday. At the pub we were told the on line menu was a SAMPLE menu. We particularly wanted the black bream but disappointingly not on the pub menu that day, We had a good lunch, albeit an alternative. May I suggest to the management that your online menu is clearly marked as "SAMPLE" to avoid other customers being disappointed.

Literally EVERYTHING about this place is sensational. The setting, the ambience, the staff (who make it even better than it already is) and the food are simply outstanding. We are both fairly well traveled in a culinary sense and really had to think about where we’d eaten better than here and certainly couldn’t conjure up many places in the UK.

Where to start! Let’s start with the team. WOW… they were knowledgeable, professional but relaxed. They really are a credit to the restaurant and really made our special evening celebrating a Birthday. The food! On a level you would think you are in central London in a secret michelin star restaurant. The price! For the food quality, taste and service absolutely worth it. The atmosphere was relaxed but simply classy. Clearly no expense spared on the build and decorations. I honestly can’t give this a biggest shout out and long may it be successful considering its in a small North Devon town noone would of heard of. It has a fish and chip shop, deli, private dining and hotel that you would think you were in one of those expensive Cotswold village. Congrats Team FA! We will definitely be back.

This is my third visit now and the first time I’ve been able to take my wife. We booked ahead as it’s over an hours drive as a little treat before Christmas. The setting is excellent, an oldie worldly pub that’s been tastefully renovated and it’s clear that no expense has been spared. Staff are very welcoming and whilst being attentive are not imposing in any way. The biggest difficulty is what to choose from the amazing menu. The chefs are truly talented and on top of their game. Each plate of food was a truly enjoyable experience and the meal on a whole was one of the best we have had. This is one of the very best places to eat in the area and I would highly recommend a visit. Price wise, for the high standard of the food and the lovely venue it was reasonable and somewhat less than you would expect to pay for this level of dining. If you are a “foodie” or would like to spoil someone this would be very high on my list of places to choose. Highly recommended If you

I stayed at this stunning cosy hotel in October and I’m dying to go back. Emily was a kind host who generously offered me an upgrade when staying an extra night. The Old Smithy has a homely feel with a high spec design. I loved everything about it and not want to leave! Sophia and Jack, and other staff at the restaurant and at the shop, were all so kind and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. And my friend and I enjoyed a lush meal at The Farmer’s Arms whose food is miles ahead of some of the trendiest restaurants in London. I’d highly recommend staying at this perfect place in a beautiful North Devon village.

Beautifully prepared and served food in the most delightful building. We were warmly welcomed, staff were attentive throughout but not overly so. The food was 5 star too! We didn't have a starter (as we expected the deserts to be irresistible - and they were!) Duck breast was delicious as was the monkfish and scallop fishcake. Followed by gooseberry trifle and beetroot, chocolate and sour cherry cake! Top quality. Definitely a special place to go to if you are in the area.

Slightly unusual proposition. The pub has been converted from a simple country boozer (which it still resembles externally) to a temple of good food and hospitality as part of an estate development which already includes a country store and a fish and chip shop, and is soon to encompass accommodation and a fully restored country mansion. Apparently, there are mixed feelings locally as the pricing precludes frequent use for many of the locals. However, as hugely infrequent visitors looking for a treat, it was just great for us. The hallmark is top-level service and memorable Euro/local food. The ambience is buzzy and the interior design is eye-catching and beautifully applied. I would not hesitate to recommend The Farmer's Arms and, there you go, I've just done it.

What an incredible find! We were on holiday nearby, it was a filthy grey Monday, we saw the pub and looked inside. Immediately welcomed warmly and shown a table. And then....THE most amazing food. So very unexpected for a tiny village in deepest Devon. We now know that The Farmers Arms has an awesome reputation. Deservedly so! It was right up there with the best and we so much enjoyed the food and the friendly service. In fact we booked again for later in the week but the grey and miserable weather had got to us so we came home early (cancelling with many apologies of course!)

Lovely place, staff attentive and great for dogs. My only constructive feedback was I had the chicken thighs and found the dish to be swimming in Thyme, totally overpowered the complete dish along with the potatoes and chicken which meant I left most of it … which was such a shame.

Yet again a brilliant afternoon, fantastic food - who would have thought turnip and crab apples would make such a lovely soup. Alongside the other sharing starters it made a very sociable debut to our Sunday lunch. The main course platter was just right - and left us wondering how we would fit in dessert. Three sharing desserts arrived and the six of us were tempted ... rice pudding, sticky toffee pudding and a caramel vanilla tart - best way to end a leisurely Sunday lunch. And to conclude - great service - as always! You cannot fault the team - front or back of house. We will be back - as we live Woolsery - and why not, when we have such great food and service in a relaxing atmosphere on our doorstep. Why go anywhere else?

Truly outstanding food - my husband is still raving about lamb and geranium broth days later and excellent service. Very good wine list including decent wines by the glass. We’ve paid more for rubbish elsewhere in North Devon, so good value too. Pretty garden seating...

We visited the Farmers Arms for my husbands 30th and had a fantastic evening. We shared the lamb broth with sourdough for the starter which was delicious. The two mains were of a similarly high standard. The desserts were lovely but perhaps lacked the wow...

Meandering through the countryside back to our holiday let, we stumbled upon The Farmers Inn so stopped for a drink. The property is immaculately decorated and appears to have some quality workmanship. A lovely find. The staff we encountered were genuinely pleasant and helpful. Although...

Rumours are circulating in North Devon of a rising star in terms of local eating so four of us visited this week. A very pleasant welcome but initially I had to pinch myself at the prices. Not a typical Devon pub selection. I decided to...

We went on the recommendation of friends, and were delighted we did. It's casual and would be suit any type of diner; families with small children included. You know this isn't a normal pub the moment you step onto the threshold. The finish of the...

Wonderful food (terrine was massive and delicious, hogget was cooked perfectly and utterly delicious) attentive staff, and fantastic decor. Went through a recommendation and it didn't disappoint - will 100% be going back!

WOW, we had the most amazing Sunday lunch. Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball, peas, carrots, French beans, roast parsnips, cabbage, cauliflower cheese & not forgetting the amazing crispy roast potatoes and lashings of thick gravy. The meat, Yorkshire pudding & stuffing came on the plate, followed by a dish of 8 roasters and another dish with the 6 vegetables in & a big jug of gravy. I dont think anyone would be able to eat everything. The servings are huge. Everything is freshly cooked, served piping hot, it was just amazing. We ate as much as we could, but there was easily enough for another 3 or 4 servings. The landlord suggested taking it home with us, but we didn't. After a rest, we ordered apple crumble & custard. Again, the portion was huge. We could have shared 1, and it would have been enough. It's a shame we don't live here because we would be regulars.

Excellent fish and chips. Plus, a pint in the pub across the lane while you wait for your order. Pub belongs to the same people. Eat food in the bar. All decorated for Halloween.

We stayed at The Anchor Inn for 1 night. Our room was lovely, very comfortable. Felt very home from home. Had everything we needed for a cosy evening. Ate in the bar on the evening. Food was delicious. Especially the crumble. Breakfast the following morning was lovely. All the staff were very friendly. Would definately visit this beautiful little place again.

Food was excellent great atmosphere and far too much for us to finish but I tried. My youngest said it’s the best meal she’s ever had ( better not tell the wife).
