Having had good meals at this pub previously! we were very disappointed with our sirloin steaks, which were difficult to cut with a steak knife and after chewing my mouthful for what seemed like ages! making little progress I had to take out and leave on the plate, (there was no gristle on the steak) with the rest of the stake! When the server came by and asked if everything was OK I had to point out that it was hard to cut with a steak knife and as difficult to chew! the server returned and said they'd knock off the price of the steaks! we came to pay and weren't sure of what 2 meals at £21.00 was on the bill, and we were told the rest of the meal which was a small portion of chips and tomatoes and a sauce which stayed on the plate with the steak my friend's steak wasn't good either same problems as my steak, he sent the chips and tomatoes back!! but kept the steak for his dog!!! It was in my opinion silly to charge us for the chips and tomatoes as I wasn't going to write a review! but when they charged us for part of the meal and our evening was ruined and had to go home and make something to eat I'm afraid this pub has gone down in our estimation and we won't be returning for another steak!

A lovely place to enjoy lunch and a drink with the family... Nice staff good food. The only reason I've scored it a 4 is I felt very let down by the amount of vegetables we were given.. I asked if we could have some more as there was only really enough for 2 and we were a party of 4.. after asking a second time we were brought a small portion of cabbage no other veg... Shame as we loved our visit...

After a 30/40min walk from Ledbury, we stopped here for refreshment. We sat outside on the terrace with lovely views over the valley on a warm sunny day, enjoyed a few pints and a light snack of baked cheese which was yummy. Extensive menu to cater for most tastes, just a shame we didn't have the appetite to try something more substantial Friendly welcome for dogs and humans alike

I’ve been to this pub several times in the past satisfactorily so was very disappointed with the food on this occasion. I had fish and chips; chips stone cold, peas in a separate dish didn’t appear cooked at all and the batter was soggy ( though fish itself generous).. no one came to check that the food was OK. I didn’t complain as we were in a group and I didn’t want to appear moany but really it was awful!

We arrived at 1 pm midweek and had a long wait to be served . Despite there not being many people needing to be served we ended up asking for menus after 25 minutes of waiting . The female staff were inattentive and one member of staff was busier drinking a pint of beer behind the bar. We ended up going to the bar each time to ask for desert menus and coffee etc . The hake was excellent but the fish cakes were not good at all . They seemed like they’d been over fried and were hard and dry. Vegetables soggy. At 2.45pm we had only just finished our dessert and one of the staff came round to mention that the pub closed in 10 mins so it was last orders It felt so rushed at the end. If we hadn’t had to wait so long to be noticed and served we would have been finished easily by 2 30 pm. Pub was also v chilly as there seemed to be a through draft from two open doors. Our previous meal there was a very different experience / we had the same fishcake meal and it was a much more enjoyable meal - better cooked and presented. There was a male in charge previously and he was v attentive and made us feel welcomed. This time we felt like we were an inconvenience. Food not cheap either. Have mixed feelings about returning

Our first visit to The Farmer's Arms and cannot recommend it highly enough. 7 of us went for Sunday lunch. A great choice of menu options and the food itself was plentiful and absolutely delicious - all freshly prepared with the best cauliflower cheese ever! Brilliant service with a smile too. Just couldn't resist the pudding menu, so we can confirm that the apple pie, waffles and the mocha tart are all fantastic. Very impressive choice of beers at the bar, including Ledbury Bitter. Lovely setting, a very friendly atmosphere plus outdoor seating for sunny days and plenty of parking - we all wished this was our local! We will definitely be back.

On our weeks holiday to Cornwall, we visited The Farmers Arms on three occasions. Even though they were fully booked they served us food in the courtyard as we were eating before 6 o’clock on the third occasion we managed to get a table inside. The food was excellent, the chips were amazing home cooked proper chips, the vegetarian and vegan choices were really very good too, one of our party is vegan and he loved the vegan cheese pizza. The staff were very friendly and it was so easy to order at the food counter, no apps to deal with and frustrate you like in the Padstow pubs. We booked the pool table for an hour on two nights and the lads watched footy, lovely atmosphere. We would highly recommend this pub.

We ate dinner on Wed 12th Aug. Great covid guidelines and felt totally safe with my wife, 3 yo & 5yo. Great countryside/village location. Would be hard to find without SatNav and the helpful signposts. We opted to sit inside (we had booked for the Eat out to Help out) due to the incoming thunderstorms. It seemed to us that most people who booked a table were initially given an outside table to minimise covid transmission but when it rained they were all given a table inside (safely distanced). Food was great! The kids loved the chicken (small plate) and chips as well as the salad! I had squid (see pic) which was tasty and not chewy at all! Wife said the chicken salad was great. My double burger and jalapeno fries (see pic) were excellent! Pudding was a treat, the choc and hazelnut dessert was rich but the ice cream was a great addition. The plum tart was a nice home comfort. All in all, a great meal!! Will visit again soon!!

This popular village pub is approached through a potholed car park in the centre of a small valley. The food is good old fashioned country cooking with a number of weekly themed food night which offer exceptional value. The helping are always generous though the service can be a bit haphazard as the young staff juggle serving on table and the customers at the bar. Expect to see locals gossiping at the bar as well as diners on table in the same room. Another room off is also a dining area, and a pool table is close by. There is a mixed clientele and sometimes it can get noisy on popular evenings. Closed Monday

Just around the corner from a delightful B&B (Hillside Cottage) we found The Farmer's Arms. It overlooks a huge carpark and the countryside. Outside there is a patio with tables and chairs. Inside there is a bar serving various beers and wines besides spirits and soft drinks. There is a good variety of food on the menu so it's easy to make a choice. The food was served hot and well cooked and we enjoyed every mouthful. The staff were warm and friendly too, so much so that we spent the whole evening there. Having booked a specific table several weeks in advance, we were very disappointed to be given a different table which was nearer the kitchen & outside doors, hence very draughty every time the doors were used. The roast turkey dinner was absolutely delicious but there were a few issues with the roast beef. We were told the beef would be medium rare but it was actually more rare than medium which for one person was disappointing. The menu we were given said petite fours with coffee but we were only offered mince pies ! Little things like these tend to spoil the overall experience.

Visited here a few days ago with a large group of friends after a long walk. We all wanted lunch and drinks, which considering the pub was empty, you would have thought the owners would be happy about. However, they seemed frustrated at having to actually cook food and serve people... Well at least this isn't the whole purpose of their business... After waiting a ridiculous length of time for our sandwiches and burgers, the older lady (whom we believe to be the owner) tried to serve two burgers which we explained were not the correct order for our table. After rolling her eyes and huffing, she rudely said that the kitchen is closed and this was the order we gave so 'just take them'. I have never experienced such rudeness from a waitress/owner before. It was as if she was doing us a favour by bringing us the wrong food. After stomping off she spoke to the only other table (now with two new customers trying their luck) and she gave them the burgers... Lucky we turned away someone else's food then hey?! Eventually we all got our food, which was very average. Overall we would not recommend this pub - if they don't seem to want customers, why should we give them our money after all?

Arrived to be immediately told off by the owner. One member of our party was taking their dog for a quick wander before we went in to avoid any accidents, as we waited for them in the car park. The owner drove up to him to tell him he couldn’t just park there to take the dog for a walk. He didn’t bother to check if we were planning on eating at the pub or had already been in the pub. Not a great start. Food was a bit average, dry burger and beef brisket didn’t taste very fresh bearing in mind it has only been going for half an hour. Staff seemed glum. Outside seating was nice and had a park for kids to play in. Can’t say we’ll be back in a hurry though due to service.

Have eaten a few times with friends and have enjoyed many mid week specials which are very reasonable. Drink prices are also inviting. Unfortunately can’t be said for their Sunday roasts. The gravy is basically brown stock water and just makes all the food soggy. Carrots are non existent and there just isn’t enough of them. The meat was so strange, like it had been boiled not roasted. Very fatty and poor quality. A real shame as their normal mid week meals are great and I would definitely recommend.

Went for a family anniversary. As always lovely food & choice of menu. You can request smaller portions of the adult menu for children but will be charged the adult price as the meat remains the same size & only the chips & salads are reduced. This makes it a bit pricier for families as there isn't a kids menu. Burgers are probably the best options for kids. Apart from this one drawback, the food is good quality & the atmosphere is lovely.

A group of friends met for lunch here. There is good parking and sheltered places to sit outside. The bar and lounge area is comfortable and cosy and there is a good selection of real ales, including local ones. So far so good. The lamb burger looked appealing with chunky chips and onion rings and a quality bun. Most of the group opted for fish and chips. The fish was on the small side but it was nicely battered, fresh and moist. The chips were chunky and a generous portion. A small pot of tartare sauce was on the plate as was a bowl of what looked and tasted like frozen peas. This was the only disappointment. Surely everyone knows the Gordon Ramsay recipe for luxury minted mushy peas. Even Harry Ramsden can do them.

Staying nearby, so had no idea what to expect and what a lovely surprise! A really nice pub, friendly staff, good ale on tap, and a roaring fire. It's the food that's the star: I had a pork belly dish with black pudding and savoy cabbage that was absolutely the best thing I think I've eaten in a long, long time: the meat was done to perfection, with all manner of delicious, savoury extras, including a fabulous cider sauce. The others had a mushroom and pesto "burger" which was also really delicious, and a basic burger and fries (on request) for the 8 year old which was demolished in seconds. Outstandingly good value.

My husband and children just paid a visit to the farmers arms upon great recommendation from farmers. We walked in and the waitress took our name as we had booked. She said she thought the table in the corner was ours but she needed to check. We were then left at the door for 15 minutes before we decided to choose our own table. Still no waitress came over to us so my husband went to the bar to grab some menus. The same waitress asked if we had booked. She completely forgot that she’d left us at the door which was followed by a weak apology. Another 15 mins and still no sign of anyone coming to take our drinks order. After that shocking service and treatment we decided to leave and find a pub where we are treated better.

Prices were reasonable too.

Function room meal for 20 was well cared for by friendly and efficient staff. Food really good with lots of veg to go with the Coq au Vin which I chose. Fruit crumble and custard was lovely and home made. Real ale on offer too....

We were looking for somewhere to park up overnight in our motorhome. Rang and asked and got a very nice lady on the phone who said it would be no problem. When we arrived, we were made very welcome by the staff and a table reserved for us. We parked up in the car park and then went in for our meal. Good selection of food and beer - the steak was beautiful and the Butty Bach ale just reached the spot. Service was excellent and the staff very friendly. Would highly recommend and we will certainly be back.

Staying at a nearby bed n breakfast we needed dinner on a Sunday night. Not wanting to drive into Ledbury (and drink n drive), we walked right into The Farmers Arms.Excellent choice, as the tap beers and ciders were up to a good standard, but the food was fantastic. The rump steak was the best we'd had whilst travelling around Scotland and England. Happy for the chef to give me some tips. The bar staff were also friendly and obliging, even allowing a few samples of beer/cider so we could choose one we liked.

Ci tornerei sicuramente. I tavoli sono pochi, meglio prenotare.

After a long walk in the area dropped in at the Farmers Arms for spot of lunch on a hot bank holiday Sunday. Very friendly chatty landlady, an excellent pint and some very tasty steak sandwiches all delivered in very convivial surroundings. It's been a long while since I've been in this pub and there have been some excellent changes. Will definitely be going back.

Went for a birthday meal this evening felt ignored by the by the staff. Had to go to the bar to ask if we could we order our meal after waiting an hour. Bypassed by staff on several occasions to clear table. When we were finally got to the sweet menu we waited another 20 minutes no one came so had to go to the bar again to ask if we could order, then a girl arrived with more sweet menus. Everyone else around us were getting better service, it seemed as if we were invisible to the staff. Was everyone else locals ?? Staff seemed too busy talking amongst them selves and to their matesNo one seemed to be in chargeThe only saving quality here was the food was very good

Had an amazing meal this evening with the husband! Grew up in the village and had seen they were advertising this pub locally again! Very nice traditional pub with a lovely menu. It was steak night with many tables reserved. My husband had pork belly, I had a chicken supreme dish both came well presented with plenty on the plate!Worth a visit!

Lovely pub with real ales and ciders, superb outdoor patio area, including large sunshades - vital on the day we visited. Don't ask for even a sandwich at 2:01pm though - the chef's on his break till 5:30pm and, in the words of the bar staff, "he won't do it" - even though he's lounging around and you're a party of ten who's just spent over £60 on drinks. Nice crisps, but I'll have to leave the food reviews to others!

We had Sunday roast for 5 and was very happy with the service and food. Lots of different beers to choose from and even Aperol for my wife - reminded us of holidays in Italy! The beef was really flavoursome and plenty of vegetables on hand. Well worth a visit.

We picked the place out as it is listed in the Good Beer Guide, and we weren't disappointed by the ales, which were excellent. There is also a good selection of cider. The service was pleasant and the menu was interesting. It is a bit more expensive than some pub food, but it is also better quality, The portions are not huge, but what you get is great. The only slight criticism is the layout of the pub means that wherever you stand, you seem to be in the way of someone. Normally I don't like pubs where you cannot easily get to the bar due to people sitting there, but in this case I can see that there is little alternative. Don't let that put you off, this place is well worth a visit.

We ended up here after a long walk and what a delight it was! Friendly and efficient service, delicious food with very generous portions, the only negative was the unusual ginger pudding which was more like a bread and butter pudding with chunks of ginger in it! but overall the starters, mains and treacle tarte were marvellous!

We were staying at a local B&B so we booked at table in this pub for dinner. It is a lovely pub, nice decor with a good range of food, including a specials board. It was very busy, so obviously the locals think a lot of it.We ordered starters, main courses and desserts along with a bottle of wine, which came to £70 for the two of us, which I think is excellent value. After the food we sat in a lounge area and played pool and chatted with the locals, which was great fun.Would recommend and would call back if ever we were in the area.

Service excellent , food hot and O.K. Car park very dangerous with large holes, Marstons need to repair urgently before someone falls and claims compensation.

We stayed here overnight and booked the restaurant for our evening meal. Lovely staff, in a lovely surrounding. It’s a shame it was dark so we couldn’t see the views. Nice selection of starters, mains and desserts and we managed to enjoy all three. In the morning, the breakfast menu was plentiful and the sausage and bacon from a local butcher were very tasty.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.
