The Famous Fishpan in Scarborough

Me and my mam visited scarborough and chose this Lovely little fish and chip restaurant, couldn't fault it and lovely to look out to the sea/beach while eating your food. Staff lovely too! Food was beautiful. Deco dated but that's what made it special I felt like I had stepped back into the 80/90s my favourite time so felt very nostalgic

Fantastic fish and chips. Amazing flavour. Fresh flaky haddock in a light crispy batter with great chips. Would highly recommend.

we stopped here to have tea sat inside upstairs looking out of the window to a beautiful sea view. we were served by a lady named Kim who was extremely helpful and nothing seemed to much trouble my friend and son had a lovely fish and amazing chips just like mum used to make and i had jacket potato the meals were delicious the service was amazing. we will be back again. Thank you

Long waits to be acknowledged/served. Waitress serving was very rude in mannerisms, rushing, slamming every food item down on the table. Fish was okay but batter poor, chips not a decent type to have for fish & chips. And this is “top rated” when searched on Google Maps? - Definitely avoid, such a bad vibe!

Best chips in Scarborough and great prices

Only bought a portion of chips but they were probably one of the best chips we have ever had. The flavour and the chip size were perfect, no silly crunchy bits, just a perfectly cooked portion.

The food was absolutely amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Service prompt and friendly although we weren’t even asked if the meal was ok. We had Haddock, chips and peas twice. Fish was nice but the batter was strangely’chewy’, chips a bit scraggy. Yea was nice. Famous? What for I wonder.

it was ok a bit expensive for what you get

Weird one. The food is extremely good but the preparation area and hygiene practices are really grim. It’s filthy behind/on the counter and the staff touch the food with their dirty hands. No gloves anywhere in sight.

We’ve been coming here for years, but the service has really gone downhill. The staff were quite rude this time—we ordered and then waited… and waited. After watching three other tables get served before us, we left. We’d been waiting 35 minutes. The waitress didn’t apologise or explain, so we’re not sure if she forgot to put our order through or just ignored us. A real shame. Thankfully, we found a great new spot just around the corner.

batter was stodgy and fish was overcooked. I complained but still paid full price. hard to find chippys that do light crispy batter. although went to Busy Bees in Bridlington the day after and they got it right 🙂

Great place to eat! The vibe was quite 'cheap and cheerful' but we have no complaints honestly! We both had the fish and chip special and the fish was so delicious, lovely and 'melt in the mouth', chips and mushy peas also very good. It arrived quickly, and the staff were really friendly. Would absolutely recommend.

After we ordered our food we waited 40 minutes and still our meals hadn’t come.Me and my family had all finished our drinks and bread by now due to waiting so long.Two families came in after us and had eaten there meals before ours came out.When we told our waiter we were going to leave as we didn’t want to wait any longer we found out she hadn’t even noticed we didn’t have our food and she thought we had already eaten so overall service was slow and rude.

Last time I been here to buy a fish and chips,and it was very good 😋the chips is every big and the fish is amazing. unfortunately they didn’t have ketchup 😅

I was in scarbrough last year on a very rainy day and almost felt like a thunderstorm so me and my grandma came here and I think it was the best fish and chips I've ever had, the only problem I have is it's not 5 star rated 😆

Take away side, great staff, friendly and quick service. Went into the sit down bit. Never got offered a menu had to ask for one. Sat there 10 minutes like total lemons while other people got served before us and staff totally ignored us. So got up and walked out. It was not busy either. Very dissatisfied.

Went in for fish and chips for our tea I had my doubts when the place was nearly empty. Anyway we decided to sit down .We were both very disappointed .Chips were hard and tasteless fish wasn't much better so not happy when were looking forward to a chippy tea

Small restaurant but very cute. We came here in May 2024, and we had to wait a bit due to its popularity, but it was well worth the wait. Now we're back in March 2025, much quieter this time. The food is still great, vert large portions and well worth the money. I would highly recommend it.

Great venue on the front. Small, but menu is as expected for a chippy on the front ... Portions are generous and price is very reasonable for its location. Staff are attentive, food is of good quality and for the front, a good price point compared to other establishments. It's a little old fashioned... But that's what I like about it. We do return regularly when by the sea.

Great value fish chips and curry sauce lite bite only £7:50 . Fish and chips fried in beef dripping ,they taste delicious some of the best we have had . Recomended

Primera vez que visito este lugar. Pedido un pescado estándar, patatas fritas, guisantes moscados y un jugo de naranja. Cuando salió la comida, mi esposa tuvo que tener una comida total reemplazada porque la tapa de la botella de vinagre se cayó, (estaba muy perdido). Cuando llegó mi comida, lo que pensé que iba a ser o bien recién exprimido o al menos embotellado Zumo de Naranja, era un poco barato "pop" de naranja. Le dije a la camarera que pedí jugo de naranja, y ella dijo que sí y que no hicieron jugo de naranja como lo conozco. La coca también era más o menos agua aromatizada. En general, la comida era muy sosa e insípida.

Well ! I can’t believe that we lived in Scarborough for five years and despite moving away in 1985 we return on a regular basis be it just for the day or we stay a few nights and today was the first time we came here to eat ! Well it won’t be the last, our usual restaurant isn’t open on a Monday out of season it appears. We were in a right dilemma, I mean you can’t visit the coast and not have fish and chips ? Soooooo happy we came here, the fish was like a piece of steak, covered in a nice crispy batter, not greasy. The chips were nice and fat and plentiful, we shared mushy peas and curry sauce. Pot of tea and bread and butter. I was heartbroken that I couldn’t eat all my chips, my husband usually helps me out but his words were I’m beat ! To top it all we had a lovely table overlooking the sea/beach…..bliss. Kim, our waitress was attentive throughout loved chatting with you and what an asset you are to this establishment. Have a lovely cruise and birthday and looking forward to seeing you on our next visit, we can’t wait. Don’t ever walk past this place, if you do you will regret it.

Excellent fish and chip restaurant on the sea front. Great views from the first floor windows of the seafront and bay. Fish (massive) + chips, curry, tea and bread is £13.50 with option of cheaper pensioner special. Very good value, very filling and tasty. Highly recommended.

Called in on spec had the pensioner portion omg it was bigger than I thought. ABIT of a wait as the lady serving was on her own I think . She did well under pressure. Would recommend great meal on a cool damp Friday afternoon.

After a lengthy, brisk walk, the pang of hunger was delightfully satisfied by a visit to The Fishpan. The delicious, flavoursome, succulent fish was coated in golden, crispy batter, complimented by thick cut chips with a soft, fluffy centre. Mushy peas finished the plater perfectly. The food was hot and excellent value. We will definitely be visiting this delightful fish restaurant and take away again.

Amazed. The size of the non-greasy battered freshest ever fish upon a lake of hot tasty chips. In January at 5:30pm. The staff were polite, structured and happy to serve. Just when you think you have found a favourite chippy, look again... Lashings of food unable to close the cartoon that we so much enjoyed but could not finish.. There's a side cafe and we watched them prepare a fresh salad side to accompany eat in fish and chips. Well done guys. Highly recommended.

Great service and excellent quality food.

One of the biggest and best portions of fish and chips in the UK. I do not know how they make the batter on the fish but it is unbelievable. Sitting upstairs overlooking the sea front, brilliant. Staff are polite and very efficient. Food is delivered quick even when busy and literally out of the frier on to your table. Hands down the best on the front.

Great Meal had on the 17th December 2024 Decent price for the fish and chips but £2.20 for a bottle of pop 😳 that’s only 69p in home bargains Apart from that, Nice large portion, that big I even left some, Not like me at all Would go again if in the area

We dined in at this location, the haddock and chips was lovely. The view outside the window sitting upstairs is very pretty. The price of the food was good and the portion sizes are also great. I would recommend this location and will be back again!

When visiting Scarborough always go to The Fish Pan. Lovely staff and lovely food. Fish is cooked to perfection with nice crispy batter and nice white flakes. Can't fault the place.

Venimos aquí cada año cuando estamos en Scarborough. Tenía pescado al vapor y mi marido tenía pescado con patatas fritas. Gran tamaño de porción y delicioso. El personal era muy amable y el servicio era genial. Conocimos al propietario Paul que era un tipo muy agradable y muy acogedor. Sin duda recomendaría este restaurante.

We called yesterday cooking to order so all fresh we had the biggest sausage n chips I've ever seen in my life we shared 1 portion n curry sauce n we were both full, service was quick n v friendy both blokes were extremely nice we always go here portion size huge n price is very good 👍 highly recommended.

Staff were friendly and helpful when serving tonight. Other chippys on the front were closing early but these were happy to stay open to serve people. I also enjoyed their chips. Perfect before a 2 hour drive home.

Fish Pan es sin duda la mejor tienda de pescado con papas fritas en Scarborough, la salsa de curry es la mejor, yo y mi hija fuimos ayer 23 de octubre después de que había terminado en el hospital, todo el personal era educado, feliz, el propietario (creo) era muy educado y amable con nosotros, no voy a ir a ningún otro lugar

We chose the famous fish pan for a fish and chip lunch based on its good reviews. We were not disappointed. 'Trinity' on the first floor of the restaurant found us a window table looking out onto the south bay and service was excellent. She advised me to have the special and save money and my wife had the pensioners special. Table all very clean and our meals arrived within a couple of minutes. Huge piece of cod in batter... properly drained and loads of big cut chips. mushy peas in a pot. Reviewers are correct about the value for money portions and I wondered how I was going to manage a dinner at the hotel later. 'Trinity' was a great server, clean, very pleasant to talk to, quick and efficient. She is an asset to the restaurant. Highly recommended restaurant and make sure you leave them a well derserved tip!

Decent fish & chips in the resteraunt upstairs. Reasonably priced and good portions. Really pleasant staff, seating upstairs or downstairs, or opt for takeaway. Food and drink was hot and good, good selection too.

We have been to the Fish Pan for lunch today. We can't visit Scarborough without a visit. A lovely meal, pleasant surroundings and very obliging waitress. A little gem of a place in Scarborough. Recommend.

I love going to the fish pan everytime we come over it only place I go when I come over

My wife and I had a wonderful day out and ended it in Scarborough where we decided to grab some fish and chips. At the time of day that we got there not much was open so choice was limited. However we chose this one as it was near to where we were parked and also noticed everything was being cooked to order and also had a large queue which is always a good indication of a good chippy. We both ordered fish and chips, mine being the biggest fish and also came with a pot of curry sauce. The food was amazing, so fresh and tasty. The batter on the fish wasn't oily and had a good crunch to it. The chips were nice and fat and were perfectly cooked. As for the curry sauce, it has to be some of the best that I have ever tasted. We both agreed it was the best. The staff were extremely friendly and asking for scraps on top of everything else was no problem to them. I highly recommend this chippy.

Hard to find good fish and chips but when I ate here I ate every single bite better than Papas in Cleethorpes, tasty food, love the cosy little cafe vibe, when you sit upstairs near the window as well you have the best view of the beach! The quality of food is brilliant, the service is great and love the atmosphere! Keep it up whatever you are doing here! Great staff! With the fish and chips as well you can choose from a cola or a hot drink, mushy peas or curry and you get some bread and butter all for £13.95

Shocking miserable rude and downright horrible service from the minute we got here to the 10 mins waiting for the most ill mannered rude and nasty waitress to treat us like something she scraped off her shoe!!! . at the time of writing i am still in a state of shock and disbelief at how we were treated especially my japanese friend who was visting this resteraunt on my reccomendation.

Stopped by to experience the famous fish and chips of Scarborough and I was not disappointed. The fried haddock was perfect and I’m not generally a fish eater. The chips were nice and squishy with a crispy outside and the best part was our waitress. Charlee, thank you for your kindness and conversation.
