The Famous Fishpan in Scarborough

This is the only fish shop I'll go to in Scarborough! Visited today, 3 adults 4 kids. As always, we waited for a table upstairs in the window. Food was incredible and the staff are always so good with the kids. Children's meal deal is amazing value for money. Been coming here for years now and can't recommend it enough!

Amazing fish and chips, the batter was so light it just flaked well worth the money and the staff were friendly they were always on the go because it was always busy there was a queue out the door if I ever go back to scarborough this is one place I would definitely eat at.

Nice restaurant. Nice staff. But I've tasted better fish and chips in Scarborough. Our usual restaurant was closed the day we were in town ....... Pity 😐

Absolutely amazing me and my family have been going for 20+ years now I think my mum used to go when she was a kid and tbh we will continue to go it is like a family tradition. Food is just amazing I don't know how they do it but the fish and chips here will always beat the local fisheries I have back home. Staff were absolutely amazing, always keeping areas tidy proving they have pride for where they work. had a word with the manager after and he may look intimidating but one of the friendliest managers I have ever met.

The best fish and chips on the Yorkshire coast

Normally a lovely place but we have had a very rude experience twice now making us leave to go to another chippy. The staff who was waiting us was very rude and pretty much rolling her eyes at us. We understood it was busy but for the attitude she gave us. Very unwelcoming.

Me and my partner came for lunch today and the food was incredible. Perfectly bartered fish and perfect chips. Staff very friendly and approachable and nice pleasant atmosphere. Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Will definitely be coming again.

We went here for food today and we weren't disappointed. My baked potato was nice, great salad, cheese and beans. Beans could have been hotter but its a small niggle. My friends food was enjoyable too. One friend found her chips not the best she's had. I had a few of hers but I enjoyed them. Think she felt that they had too many eyes on them. Cappuccino was lovely too, thanks 😊 apple pie was unusual but I don't like caramel.

Can't fault the staff but the food wasn't special. I guess we were unlucky on the day but the chips were average and scampi is,,,well,,scampi.

Lovely chunky home style chips Adult size portion was well priced and kids at £4 was brill. Fast service lovely warm chips. Just wish they was our local. Thankyou for great service.

After a long day on the beach, in the sun and rain, this came like a gift of heaven at sunset (with tea and buttered bread, and a seat by the window). Fabulous!

i got a battered sausage and chips the sausage wasn’t cooked through properly, the batter was soggy, the chips were vile and the man at the counter was unpleasant and rude, not returning

Fantastic chips n curry with scraps, good portion size, no 'scrappy' chips all chunky. Good cup of Yorkshire tea. Didn't have the fish today but looked lovely, good friendly service.

Went this last weekend with the Mrs. Was a nice place. Limited seating but great food. Try to get a sea view upstairs. But you'll have to be lucky. Also offer Military and Vet. Discounts.

A must visit when in Scarborough. Had Haddock and Chips with mushy peas. The fish was cooked to order, very hot, flakey, and the crispy batter was perfect. The chips, from real potatoes, were huge and white and fluffy inside. Price point was excellent. Can't fault the food or price.

My FAVOURITE chippy in Scarborough. Actually, it's my favourite chippy EVER. My mouth waters just thinking about the fish & chips that I've had here. I absolutely love the 'Lite Bites' deal, it's £6 and is the perfect portion of fish, chips, and peas/curry sauce. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend!!!!!

Our go to chippy whenever we go to Scarborough. Food always spot on, but the seasonal price/portion fluctuations are noticeable. Could do better

Came as an away fan to watch the footy and this was the suggested chippy and it did not disappoint ! Chunky chips, huge sausage and amazing curry sauce that I'd never experienced before ! Scraps on top to finish it off. Looking forward to coming back in the summer.

Visited in march when it was quiet, got straight in and got an upstairs seaview. Service was timely and friendly. The fish was lovely and white, cooked to perfection in a light crispy batter and the chips were nicely done too. Good sized portions. I recommend the dish and chip special as it comes with bread, a side and a drink.

Brought my 2 kids down for a bit of a Friday night treat. And what a treat. Great food, all hot and fresh. Kids menu pricing is amazing! As are the 2 for £7 puddings....which themselves are fantastic. Brilliant service, nothing was too much trouble even when my son decided that he did want ice cream on his choc sponge after all and it was immediately done. Will deffo be visiting again

Best fish and chips in Scarborough. Portions are huge and nothing is too much trouble. The only criticism is the toilets, they need upgrading and a deep clean.

Ordered 2 fish and chip meals the fish was freshly cooked but it was fairly quiet. The price is very good especially with the cost of living crisis. The portion sizes are very good fish was very good also . Would highly recommend staff friendly too .

I wasn't sure that a seafront business would produce the standard that I expect and it was very quiet. However I was in the mood for some fish and I placed my order. I had a chat with two of the blokes on the counter while I waited for the third to cook the fish. The experience was reminiscent of the days of my youth, when experienced men occupied all manner of jobs in the days before the world turned bad. The fish was beautifully cooked and unlike the other shops in the location, it was of a reasonable size and thickness, not a wafer thin sliver like the ones I bought elsewhere. In my judgement this is the leading fish and chip shop along the seafront. Whether there are any more good ones is yet to be discovered.

Amazing food and staff always friendly and welcoming.

I visited with my daughter and took fish and chips to the beach, 2 days ago. Today visited as a family party of 4 and sat inside. Both experiences were excellent, staff on both sides were friendly, competent and efficient. Food both times was great (particularly the curry sauce). 3 of us sat inside and had the £12.75 special, its was great and the fish portions generous. Absolutely recommend for eat in or takeaway.

The staff were absolutely fantastic from the moment we arrived , cleared and wiped the tables for us as we were a group of 8 and made sure we were sat together They were polite and helpful and went far beyond than just serving your food to the table. The food was fresh , tasty and plentiful and not greasy or soggy. The fish was fabulous. Portions were plentiful and was not expensive.

We love the fish pan and dining in here is our treat when visiting Scarborough. We are never disappointed with the food and the staff are so hardworking and provide fantastic customer service - which isn't the case everywhere these days. Always clean and a speedy service of delicious food.

Very good place to visit. The fish and chips special was amazing. Really good price for the food and big portions. Kim and Sarah and tre had really good service and made us feel very comfortable. I will definitely recommend this to other people.

Visited there today for small fish and chips. Lovely staff. Older gentleman who served me was a gentleman. He gave me a bigger fish as it snapped in half. Thoroughly enjoyed them. Thanks very much.

Myself and partner dropped by after walking round the drive. We both had fish chips and mushy peas. It was delicious! We were both very happy and will definitely go back again.

We came here 4 times during the kids holidays it would have been 5 but there was a big queue and we opted for somewhere else...what a mistake! The kids had various kids meals which are big portions and a value for money myself and husband had scampi fish and chips and a fish combo all our food was delicious freshly cooked couldn't fault any of it. The service was wonderful we were served by Kim everytime she is amazing at what she does and our kids loved her she was personable friendly and had a laugh with the kids. This place really is the full package. We will definitely be back next year and the years after. Thank you

Judging by other reviews, they must've been having an off-day but I've just been and the food was really poor. Everything was overdone and stale and the sausage tasted really cheap. Good-sized portion but that's the only positive thing I can say about it.

Disappointed with the chips, they were very dry like they’d been kept warm for too long. The poor waitress was on her own so was kept very busy, and for some reason didn’t have a pad to take orders so kept having to double check what people ordered. It was uncomfortably warm and not at all the relaxing meal I was hoping for. On the plus side, the curry sauce was tasty 😋

The fish & chips special was great value and really tasty. Service was quick and friendly. Was ideal for us as downstairs was dog friendly. It was busy so it's obviously a popular place and I can see why, would definitely recommend.

Great little place, we picked this because its dog friendly, you have to sit downstairs of you have a dog so it can get busy as there is restricted seating but the food and service are excellent, we've eating here a few times now so can definitely recommend.

Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful, up and downstairs seating, dogs welcome downstairs. Brilliant kids menu, they get jelly and ice cream as pudding with an activity sheet and crayons, also receive a lollipop and bubbles, food is excellent and a good choice, Lovely sea views from the window seats upstairs.

visited twice just recently and both times just as good, staff lovely and food delicious only criticism would be the vinegar is far too weak i have to drown my food to get any taste but other than that beautiful

Freshly cooked fish excellent proper cut chips. Why put a salad with fish and chips it adds nothing and just doesn't fit. Restaurants will be serving an English roast dinner with mayo or sweet and sour sauce or a full curry!!!!! .....crazy!!

This restaurant has a long history since it opened in 1960. However, the fried fish we had today was a bit thick with flour wrapped in fish skin, too high in oil and a bit greasy. The fish meat was dry and lacked moisture, so it was not a fried fish that suited our taste.

Love this place, always come here when visiting Scarborough, staff are lovely and the food is fantastic, very good value , the kids meals come with a drink and jelly and ice cream plus a lolly and bottle of bubbles, also crayons and a picture/puzzle sheet to do, clean and cosy, dogs are welcome downstairs. Unfortunately no space upstairs when we arrived today but room downstairs, we have always been lucky enough to get a seat upstairs in the window seats until today, the waitress took our order then came back 5 minutes later and told us that a table was available in my favourite spot and had kept it for us to move up there, absolutely made my day, would highly recommend 😀

Ignore the negative reviews, I don’t believe they’re genuine - this place is always fantastic and it’s where all us locals go. You can’t beat the value of their Lite Bites box - very generous portions, all freshly cooked and the staff are always lovely...

Beautiful gem in scarborough for delicious fish and chips. We sat inside upstairs where the decor was traditional and cosy with great sea views. The staff was great very attentive and polite. The price is good too. We will definitely be back!!

Oldie worldie fish shop, first came here over 20 years ago, not much has changed, the decor is a little dated but the food and the service more than make up for it. Staff are lovely and very welcoming. Food is delicious. I would recommend the jumbo fish special. Very family friendly

We had seen great You Tube "write up" so we went earlyish evening on what had ben a very busy Boxing Day Scarborough. A most charming charming couple of waitresses attended to us (four of us) in the relatively quiet upstairs restaurant and the food...

The shop as a takeaway and seating. so you have a choice. which is good when weather's not brilliant. The staff were quick at getting people served. And friendly.

Excellent fish and chips with bread and butter and a pot of tea. Brilliant service from lovely staff. Very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Have a very nice sit in restaurant, very small and clean. Ordered fish, peas and curry sauce for lunch. The food was delicious. The fish was divine! Excellent service from the waitress. Highly recommend

Amazing quality fish and chips!

Very good food (as you can see from the photos I clearly don't like their sausage and chips with curry sauce). Staff have on the most part being polite although on one occasion the staff who spoke to us were quite rude. Perhaps didn't meant to come across the way it did, but both myself and the person I was with felt the same way about the interaction with that member of staff. But generally have never really had any issues here and the food and service have always been very good.

Fish great, chips undercooked - maybe that is my personal preference but the fish made up for that

4 of us came in on Saturday 28/10/23 Lovely table overlooking the beach. Waitress service excellent. Food excellent 👌 Prices excellent 👌 Sense of humour from manager excellent as I paid the bill while my wife was in the washroom & the manageress played along with my attempt at humour by stopping my wife as she was going down the stairs "without paying" I even phoned up the main chipshop part next door when we got home to find out how they make the superb curry sauce. 10 out of 10 Best fish & chips in Yorkshire/Britain Thank you , see you next October Mike & Maz Kate & Marko

This is our favourite fish restaurant in Scarborough and always vist when in Scarborough but this time fish was a bit on the dry side. Have been here loads of times and will be back again soon but will have to say something about fish if we receive a another portions of dry fish .We'll worth a vist.

Visited this fish pan several times bit never reviewed always lovely food and great service. There curry sauce is definitely one to try 😋.

We got the upstairs window seat which is a great view. Service was surprisingly slow considering we were the only ones in at first. Kids portion is huge, probably more aimed at teenagers than little ones. Food was really good, but batter didn’t seem quite right - it was very dark and soft.

Excellent friendly service, and lovely Yorkshire fish and chips. The vegetarian option for my wife was great too.

On the plus side - the portion sizes were very good and the chips were well cooked On the negative side - a thick batter spoilt the haddock inside. The crusts on the bread were hard as if had been buttered for quite some time.

Fantastic fish and chips. Scampi tasted beautiful aswell. Most meals come with bread & butter and tea (I think?). Only lost 1 star because the place is really packed in like sardines (you can hear other people's conversations and one girl kept wafting her hair near my food) and they didn't have any jumbo fish in so we had to change our order. Would definitely go again.

Went on someone else's recommendation but was very disappointed. Asked for an oap portion which they don't do .Shared a fish with my hubby but left a greasy taste afterwards Chips were passable and mushy peas were quite runny .Wouldn't go again

The best fish and chips in England can't rave enough about the quality

A small fish and chip establishment on the front. For a mere £5.95 you get a lite bite meal which consists of a good size fish, a good portion of the chunkiest chips I have ever encountered, gravy and peas or beans. The meal was perfect after a full days strolling round and I would happily go back there next time I'm in Scarborough.

Purchased takeaway battered sausage and chips. Chips were great, looked homemade and rustic, sausage very good. Excellent value for money and big portions. Highly recommend.

Been using this restaurant for years but suddenly the quality has dropped of a cliff. The fish was dry. The peas tasteless and the chips were like potatoes cut in quarters they were massive and difficult to eat.

Great haddock fish 'n chips! Friendly staff. Good prices. Park on the street or in the nearby carpark. Upstairs has a water view.
