Absolutely phenomenal fish and chips. The fish was tender and had a lovely light batter. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft and steamy within. The tartar sauce tasted homemade. We were lucky enough to be able to get our food to go as we were on duty with work, but the restaurant looks lovely and worth a sit down. The service was great and we felt very welcome. It's in a nice quiet area of town. Thanks very much and we hope to return in the future.

After reading the menu and seeing the TripAdvisor reviews, we were quite excited to dine here, especially as we had travelled from Leeds to eat seafood at the coast as it's theoretically fresher We started the meal Saturday evening with crab, plaice, and prawn cocktail off the menu (main staples in a fish restraunt, surely? ) It also has a strange setup as you're made to wait in the bar, then place your order before you're seated (even though the restraunt was empty) The signature seafood chowder starter was split, lacked any shellfish whatsoever and tasted like it was heated up from frozen. The sauce the mussels came in was watery, and the garlic in it wasn't cooked through. It didn't improve with the mains as the fish pie tasted pre made long before it was needed and the fish pie was topped with over baked cheese, grey potatoes and tasted bitter my wife's lobster and scallops consisted of half a lobster shell full of mushed up lobster and scallops that had been cut in two/three slices obviously to make it look like a generous portion. The accompanying vegetables were a slimey tomato and pepper salad and a small pot of overcooked green beans, carrots, and cold over cooked fried potatoes, although the broccoli onthe top did look fresh. Needless to most of the meal went back to the kitchen. we would have complained at the time but the couple at the next table had already beat us to it and there were only 2 staff we could see so we paid the bill and left very disappointed and £74 lighter. I can only say at this point the positive reviews on here could only be from the customers who went there for the £20 2 course menu or it was a completely different chef that wasn't using a microwave. Defiantly wouldn't recommend it

I felt very warm and cosy atmosphere from the staff. The food is very fresh and delicious. I had a wonderful time from my special treat holidays.

Very poor. We have been here several times before and rated this restaurant. Tonight was appalling. We paid the bill as we are not into complaining to get the bill down. The waitress was extremely rude and provocative when we explained what we had experienced. We asked to see the manager and the chef came out and once he realised we had already paid he didn’t want to know and was just irritated. I had Scallops, an expensive dish, and received 3 the size of a large pea, and 3 very small so called King prawn. A minute meal for Almost £30. We’ve eaten here before when the main course was 3 times the size. When we complained the chef said they had to cut the portion sizes due to cost. Be prepared for a big disappointment if you visit this place. It’s s shame as only last year this was one of our favourite restaurant on the east coast

My girlfriend and I ate here for her birthday and it was one of the best meals either of us have ever had. The staff were lovely and offered helpful insights into the menu which paid off big time. The highlights were the seafood chowder which rendered us speechless (very uncommon). It was just so tasty, hands down the best chowder either of us had ever had with such a wide variety of fish all coming together as seafood heaven in a cup. For the main my girlfriend had the catch of the day which was red bream (on the waitresses recommendation) it was incredible, perfectly cooked, really generous portion size and the sauce was to die for. I would wholeheartedly recommend that anyone eat here, the food is outrageously good and offers unbelievable value for money!

Good seafood restaurant. Spoilt for choice on menu. I had Winter set menu which was really good value. £20 forchoice of starter, soup and main. I had pate, chowder, fish and lobster linguine. Also would recommend the Cherries Jubilee. Good service.

We live in Scarborough, and again, this fish restaurant does not disappoint. This time we had the three course winter set menu. Fishcake starter, seafood chowder (full of fish), and crab & hake rarebit for £20. No skimping on the fish, excellent value for money, would highly recommend. Look forward to the next visit

Cafe Fish does Seafood & Scarborough proud. If you don’t live near the East Coast town it is still well worth the journey! A range of seafood meals await your selection, many of which are unusual to other Seafood Restaurants. As an illustration I chose Plaice, stuffed with Lobster & Prawns which was cooked to perfection, with lovely presentation & tasted amazing! We will return!

Went here with my partner while on a weekend trip to Scarborough. The staff were very friendly and gave their suggestions on what was best on the menu. I got the plaice with crab meat and my partner ordered the half lobster with scallops. Both were very tasty and well priced. We'll definitely be back next time we visit Scarborough.

Cafe Fish is a very well established Restaurant which is very cosy, the Service is Excellent and very Friendly. The Food is Absolutely Wonderful totally fresh, beautiful and extremely tasty and the sauce (every sauce) is to die for. Would Highly Recommend especially if you are a Fish lover but Chicken Steak and Vegetarian options are available. Thankyou Chef xxx

Superb. Well priced. Great service. Above all excellent food.

Went on new years eve and expected a nice relaxing meal then home to let new year in...instead was only in there for one hour, 3 courses thrown at us one after the other, waitresses rushing about gave me indigestion, fishcakes hard and overcooked, sauce on main meal was stone cold as was my husbands, forgot our veg so had to ask but when it came it was hot but by then we had nearly finished our meal. Ended up leaving feeling really sick and bloated due to eating 3 courses so quickly.

The environment and service were very good. Our party chose food from the lower price menu (This might have been something to do with the problem). We ordered 3 x Yorkshire Brie & Mushroom - all 3 were under-cooked, the brie was still cold and hard in the center. Followed by mains; all served on only slightly warm plates which made the food cold. After being highly satisfied with this restaurant for years this is the first time we have not been pleased.

Nice place, had high hopes but food a bit disappointing, fishcakes overcooked, sauce on main was cold, forgot to bring veg, waitresses very nice but rushed of their feet, we were in and out in an hour, felt rushed so left feeling sick and bloated.

Visited on a recommendation, very thankful it was recommended. Service was impeccable, food was delicious and utterly faultless, portions were good and for the amazing quality the price was good. We absolutely loved our food, and our visit. Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this wonderful place to anyone, and if I’m ever back in Scarborough, it will be top of my list of places to head too.

The ambience, food and service were amazing. The only real criticism I have is that the main was served too soon after the starter, literally a couple of minutes after. Personally I prefer a little longer.

Lovely set-up, fresh seafood with a good variety. Had the 2-course meal deal with a glass of house white wine for 27 pound, very delicious. The served bread with garlic butter was also tasty. Nice and quick service.

Very attentive and efficient staff serving a wide variety of quality seafood at realistic prices. Really enjoyed our meal there and will be back.

Shipyard is round the corner from Cafe Fish and run by the same people. Informal for breakfast and lunch. They bent over backward to avoid my food allergens and presented me with 2 excellent brunches on 2 consecutive days. 1 full English breakfast and 1 smoked salmon dish accompanied by a roast capsicum salad. I could have eaten a bowl of that by itself and been happy. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The staff were fine and friendly but the food was extremely disappointing. The menu reads well but our food was pretty tasteless and was certainly not individually cooked. We thought it was ordinary and probably microwaved. What a pity - Cafe Fish has the opportunity to be the main fish restaurant in a major coastal fishing town and claims to use fresh local produce but we think it was frozen not fresh. The lobster meat was mushy which indicated it was frozen and we question whether it was from the North Sea at all.

The receptionist at the Crown Spa Hotel recommended Cafe Fish for a great fish restaurant in Scarborough. It was really delightful. The Maitre'd ushered us to a sitting room where we sat and perused the menu and ordered wine before being sat at a table. We had fish chowder, cheese bread, sea bass, and scallops. Oh boy, was it good. Had lemon sorbet and limoncello for desert.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE I READ THROUGH PAST REVIEWS AND THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME HES DONE THIS!!!!! Complete shambles. I when i was asked how my food was i complained that the tail of my lobster was very chewy. The chef, who is also the owner then came back from the kitchen shaking with anger being rather aggressive in-front of the whole restaurant telling me i don't have a clue what im talking about, he said “what do you know”, he then muttered underneath his breath and walked off. I have never been so embarrassed when going out for a meal, i felt so insulted i just got up and left with my partner, leaving the majority of her drunken chicken half of my lobster and two more than half full drinks. I really dont know how a owner would think it’s acceptable to speak to customers like this over something so trivial. In my opinion the owner is in the wrong business and doesnt know how to conduct a business or him self, his wife who is the other owner didn’t handle the situation any better. I wasn't even going to pay them as I didn’t think they deserved any of my money after ruining our evening and embarrassing us, luckily for them my partner took pity on them as they seemed desperate.

We popped in early (1800 hrs) for a bite to eat on the way to the Scarborough Open Air theatre. Service was attentive and friendly. Tried the Fish & Chips and the Chowder platter .. all very tasty and the chowder was exceptional! Will come again for the full 'meal out' experience!

Selected this restaurant for a 70th birthday celebration meal and was quite disappointed for several reasons. The place was virtually empty on an August, Friday evening - never a good sign. The service was haphazard and the food mediocre. The champagne we ordered was not served at the table, but opened behind the bar with the waitress spilling half a glass on the floor - with no apology! The 'whole lobster' I ordered was served without it's claws, or claw meat. When I suggested to the waitress that they could hardly call a lobster served without its claws 'whole', she replied that "they didn't have the space" to serve with claws!!! and then said that this was the way whole lobster was normally served in all the local restaurants. The following evening, in another restaurant not 50 yards away, I ordered whole lobster and was served, as expected, a whole lobster with the claw meat, it having been removed and plated by the chef in the kitchen. Overall a disappointing experience.

What a lovely place. We really fancied some quality local fish and this place did not disappoint. Stunning dishes and a lovely atmosphere :)

Two visits last week confirmed that Cafe Fish has maintained the previous high standards. Both visits started with the excellent Chowder Platter and ended with a tasty local cheese board. Mains were Red Bream and Lobster with Scallops. Everything was cooked and presented to perfection, the front of house kept things moving without ever feeling rushed.

The scallops were cooked perfectly, with the center rare and the surface crispy and fragrant. It was exquisite The same goes for white fish. However, I was a little disappointed that there were no lobster scissors.

Lovely restaurant - looks nothing from the outside but the inside is great. We booked on the spur of the moment to have something different and we couldn't have been more pleased. There is a good range of food on offer, hubby had plaice stuffed with lobster, served with chips and vegetables. I had the drunken chicken as seafood doesn't agree with me unfortunately, the chicken was lovely and moist. I didn't have a dessert as I was full but hubby had cherries jubilee and he said it was lovely. Definitely a place to try - recommend you book as it is a busy restaurant.

We came here for an early evening meal with a family of 6. There were a few items not available, odd for a 6pm booking, and when asked about some of the menu items the senior waitress seemed to know nothing, other than "I like salmon". Most of the food was good, although the fish portions were all very small. Most other portions were at best average but were tasty. King prawns worth avoiding - bland, not fresh, and tiny. However, the sea bass and king scallops main course was abysmal - a tiny fillet that was inferior to anything you'd find in a supermarket isle, and scallops that weren't kings and certainly weren't fresh. Also, both were overcooked significantly. All set for a pretty ok meal overall (for 4 out of 6 at least) and an alright review, until the meal was over. We were instantly offered a dessert menu, good, but declined. Didn't see the waitress for another 15 minutes and only then after 2 attempts to call them over. There were dirty plates sat on the table the whole time. When asking for the bill, I was told "we're busy, give me a minute". 15 minutes later, I finally flag down the other waitress. Dirty plates finally cleared. Attempt to pay, but they don't take amex, despite advertising that they do on their door and their bill wallet. As we had been waiting so long, the rest of the family (inc 2 young children) had gone to collect cars and move elsewhere. The meal was justvover £200 so we paid the max 99 contactless on other 2 cards, wouldn't allow us to waive the final few quid of the bill or deduct anything for the now 40 minute wait to pay. The blonde waitress was ok, the red head condescending and unapologetic. Soured an ok experience and means we won't be returning. No hint of an apology or understanding from anyone for the waiting or the card issue. Not a fan of leaving a restaurant on an argument or hungry, sadly got both. And now one of our group is violently sick after their meal.

We loved this restaurant! We arrived about 20 minutes before opening and decided to wait. The chef realized that we were there and invited us to come in and wait inside. He described the dishes and was just lovely. We both e joyed our delicious meals. The sea bass tasted like it had just been caught!

Started off great, very attentive service taking or orders and the food was undoubtedly delicious. However after being served our mains not one of the 3 waiting staff came to ask if everything was ok or asked if we’d like more drinks or if we’d like desert or coffee. Infant we were ignored. We decided to ask for the bill rather than spend anymore as it became obvious our custom want appreciated. Even then not one question as to whether we’d enjoyed the evening. We even rounded the bill up as it was easier to divide, not a smile or thank you was offered. We Walked out and nobody said thank you for coming. Very odd. We would have spent another £80 on wine and deserts if only we were shown a bit of service. Bad management I guess. We won’t return.

If you’re looking for a restaurant in Scarborough, that knows how to cook fish and has local catch, this is the place. Small and friendly restaurant centre of town.

The only problem we had was choosing what to order. Huge choice, mainly fish but plenty of meat dishes also available.

A friend recommended Cafe Fish and I am so glad they did. Every single course was amazingly good. The service was the best I’ve ever had. Could not fault a single aspect of my visit and neither could my partner. Already looking forward to my next visit when I’m back in Scarborough.

If you want a fish restaurant, this should be the first place to go

Service really slow. Bread brought before drinks order taken! Then given Wrong specials menu.... which we ordered from then were told we couldn't have! Trainee waitresses on so everything a bit on the faulty towers side.... she wasn't allowed to do anything. It was OK. Husband had skate wing. Fish good. Side of vegetables over salty and 2 pieces of potato. He was starving by 10.30. It was fine. But not amazing. Big bonus..... dogs made welcome.

We found Cafe Fish on Trip Advisor in advance of our trip to Scarborough and booked a table and we were not disappointed! My husband had oysters and I had crab to start and then we both had the plaice stuffed with prawns and lobster....

Mediocre food and impolite staff

The four of us booked and we all had the midweek menu, £27 each, the starters were fantastic, chowder especially for me, we all ad the fish of the day which was home smoked haddock, prawns and scallop on a bed of samphire, some of us had a glass of wine others san Miguel, cannot fault this place, atmosphere, service, food, price, there are other things on the menu for partners who don't get on with fish, chicken, steak on the main menu, lots of sides to go at, book a table as there very busy, which to me is a good sign for a restaurant. Delicious

We called ahead to ask if they were dog-friendly and they kindly accepted, preparing extra space next to our table. The ambience is lovely. The staff as well! The seafood is delicious and fresh. I had the chowder (incredible!) and fish pie. I would happily order both again. My partner had oysters (great) and a dish with fish and goat cheese. He did say that the goat cheese overpowered the fish's delicate flavor but he still enjoyed his meal. Great wine selection.

Found this restaurant within walking distance of my hotel. What a find - hostess/server was fabulous! Enjoyed a relaxing meal - salmon was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding and custard was scrumptious!! Check it out if you are in Scarborough England.

It depends very much on your budget as it is not by any means a cheap restaurant but the service is first class however the fish and chips could have been more plentiful for the price that we as 2 couples paid.

With compliments to the chef our food was top quality of taste . To start with the fishcakes and haddock was beautiful and the mushroom and black truffle soup was full of flavour and lovely and creamy too then With the lobster being very tasty and fresh and the scallops light and fresh along with the prawns . The hadock was very light and fluffy with a lovely light crispy bater . Our waitress was a superstar too . We had a wonderful time here at Cafe fish for our 1st wedding anniversary. Thank you and definitely worth another visit when we come back to Scarborough in the future

Wonderful fish but we were served a mix of vegetables to accompany! Seems an odd option and there was no alternative offered. Worst of all the few potatoes were dry and black. I did tell the waitress and the kitchen said all veg was fresh that day. The potatoes had seen several days.

A wonderful visit to this hidden gem. The staff were super friendly, the fish chowder was delicious and the Halibut tasted super fresh with good portion sizes. Highly recommend for a casual but refined dinner.

If you love seafood, go here! Yes, it's pricier but my goodness it is worth it! Went for my birthday, and the place was very quiet which was a shame. The lady waitressing was lovely and we didn't order from the set menus. I can't begin to explain how amazing everything was that I ate! Especially the scallops... they were to die for. Just do it! Seriously, don't think just go and eat there!
