Step back in time to the original "Woolpack," back in the good old days of Emmerdale Farm and there it is, the Falcon Inn in Arncliffe. Once the word got out, people flocked for miles to try and get a glimpse of the actors during filming. The tiny, peaceful village got so packed that the residents couldn't get in and out of the place and protests began. Eventually filming moved to Esholt, on the outskirts of Bradford and over the years, Arncliffe returned to a sleepy little village. There is still a photo next to the bar of Amos Brierley and Henry Wilkes, as well as a more recent photo of the modern James Herriot and his wife, from the new series of All Creatures Great and Small. The pub is packed with items of interest; better than many museums I have visited. It's quirkiness is a joy to behold and you could spend a long time trying to take everything in. You can park outside, next to the green. The only sound is that of the birds and the occasional farm animal. There is a compact but enticing menu and we had a lovely plate of sandwiches and fries for two. I even enjoyed the air conditioning toilets, though it was a bit of a limbo to get into the cubicle. Having passed by a number of times, I'm pleased that we made the effort to go in at last. If you want total tranquility, you can also stay there, as they have a few rooms available. Go take a look. You'll be surprised. We were.

Lovely café with good choice of food and friendly service. Gluten free options (bread) available. I had a very nice Wensleydale and apple sandwich

We went for a Mother's day walk and decided to have lunch at the Craven Heifer at Stainforth mainly due to location but also timing. The food felt as if it was home cooked and very tasty, the roast beef was melt in your mouth and the sprouts and carrots were to die for. A lovely family meal had by all. The staff were also very friendly.

My daughter took me here for lunch I ordered pot of tea and chicken wrap with chips with salad We sat outside The pot of tea came without a tea bag my daughter went to the counter expecting a fresh pot of tea and got given a tea bag to put in the teapot A waitress came with my grandsons scone and when I mentioned it she just laughed and said it didn’t surprise her I took the teabag and pot back into the counter and asked for a fresh pot Quite rudely I felt, the older woman said we always put the teabag in after the water I asked for fresh water to put my teabag in Which she did but could tell she wasn’t best pleased The wrap was nice, chips where Luke warm and the shredded lettuce was brown Didn’t feel I could complain On our way out I noticed on most of the tables where peopke had had food the lettuce had been left We didn’t bother with desserts Quite disappointed in the service as no one came round to check everything was okay

We ate at The Plough twice over the Easter weekend. On Good Friday we booked in the afternoon and ate early evening. The staff were attentive, very friendly and accommodating and the food was well priced and very good, so much more than “just a good pub” standard. The only small downside was being told we could pay at the bar, I don’t really mind… but the bar was heaving with customers… so it took a while. On Easter Sunday, friends had booked us all in for Sunday lunch and after our Friday experience we were looking forward to it… such a shame it didn’t live up to the Friday. The menu was much more expensive than on the Friday and at close to £40 for a Sunday lunch set menu, I expected it to be great. It wasn’t bad, high standard starters, but the main roast was average to be honest. Nothing bad, but too average really. However , what really disappointed was the service. Clearly under staffed, not overly busy, plates were left, items forgotten, staff absent, all perfectly nice but no apology, no explanation, as if they didn’t really care. The score for Friday would be a 5 stars… but sorry, Easter Sunday let it down.
