The Exmouth Arms in Cheltenham

My wife and I was looking for somewhere to have a roast dinner, end up in the exmouth, roast was amazing, service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Definitely will be going back.

A really nice pub for a meal out/few drinks with friends. The food is really tasty, and the service friendly and polite. The menu isn't that extensive, but adequate enough, and has dish or so to suit all tastes. It does get very packed in there, so maybe not the best place if you want to have a quiet meal. Never been during the daytime, but definitely would go there again for a week day lunch maybe.

Lovely pub, great service and good food. Quiet lunchtime, fast and friendly service, will definitely be back.

We recently attended a Birthday Party upstairs in the function room. The room was decorated with fairy lights and the tables were nicely laid out with table cloths. The buffet food was very good. The sandwiches could have done with being labelled as we couldn't tell what the fillings were. The quiches were very tasty and good quality. The cake was made by a member of staff and it was so beautifully decorated. It tasted as good as it looked. The family played the music via the pub sound system and it worked well to get us all dancing. It was a fab evening and we would definitely hire this room in the future.

We reserved a room for a group of 8 people upstairs. The room has been very tastefully decorated with candles and hanging lights. The service was efficient and the serving staff friendly and helpful. Really tasty meals from the comments received from the whole group. The Goan Fish Curry was particularly enjoyed. Great desserts. All in all, a very good experience.

We had Kerala food there.Really amazing 😍. Kerala Beef porotta, Kerala chicken curry. Vindaloo pork ribs. Vindaloo Pork ribs were spicy and exceptionally good 👍 Will visit again next Kerala curry night

The best Pub Sunday dinner I have had in a couple of years. Superb and generous portions fairly priced. Lovely big pub with nice atmosphere with huge safe walled garden. We ate the wood fired pizzas in their garden later on which was underwhelming tbh and the staff were uninterested and a little rude. But Sunday dinner I cannot fault.

We went as group, the service was not very good, as we were upstairs and we had to wait a while for the food, even though we had pre-ordered and there were not a lot of people in the pub. The dressing was already on the salad, this not usual, I could not eat the salad as the dressing was spicy, the chips were cold, I could only eat the steak which was cooked perfectly for me and the crumble was lovely.

Awesome find, affordable, family friendly and the best pub experience. Living in Australia, I have missed a real English pub, The Exmouth Arms was a true delight.

Visited during a trip to watch the cricket. Very nice beers, cracking beer garden and pizza's were lush.

My friend & I went for just a drink & the service was dreadfully slow. Big queue of customers, lots of staff but only 2 serving. Glad we weren't eating!

The Exmouth hosted our group social in their upstairs function room. The booking process was simple and their communication leading up to the evening was great. They have a choice of buffet menus, but were very accommodating in doing a combination of the 2, plus providing special plates for those with dietary requirements. The room itself was delightful, decorated with fairy lights and table centres, and big windows overlooking the garden. There was low music on in the background providing a bit of atmosphere. We had 28 in our group and it was the perfect size for us, with 3 large tables to sit round. The food was varied and delicious, presented beautifully on platters on a large side table. The staff were polite and very helpful. We had a fantastic evening. We will definitely be returning.

Located on Bath Road, excellent beer garden area! Coffee is pleasant and usually served with a biscuit which is a nice touch! Service is prompt and efficient. Prices are reasonable too!

We have held quite a few parties at the Exmouth Arms over the years. The function room is a fantastic venue, with great access and locality. We decided to hold our wedding reception here and it was an absolutely wonderful experience, from start to finish. There were 29 of us and the room size was perfect. Tor and the team were so helpful and worked closely with us to make it a tremendous day. The service was excellent, with everyone getting the right meals, they were cooked to perfection, and tasted fantastic. No-one had an issue, at all. The beer and wine selection at the bar served everyone's taste, and the Prosecco flowed! We had our photo's in the lovely garden they have and are so special to us. All in all a wonderful day spent together in a brilliant venue, accommodated by Tor and a great team of waiters/ waitresses, chefs and would recommend it for hosting a party, or generally visiting as the food is wonderful and the whole pub and gardens are really well laid out. Thanks again Tor, you've helped make lovely memoires to last forever.

Wanted to book a table, manager refused to book a table, said we do not accept bookings, we work first come, first served, so you are welcome to come; the day I came for a dinner, they did not have a table, as all were booked with a sign. The manager does not have any experience working with customers or maybe he did not want to help as I am not native English speaker.

Excellent lunch special Cod & Chips for £11. Good value.

Had a delightful experience here yesterday evening. Met some family who were travelling back up north from Cornwall for dinner, based on recommendation by a colleague. We, (boringly enough) all had the same, the rump steak. I think it's the best rump I've ever had with the others of the same opinion. Supremely tender, very flavourful and cooked exactly as asked. Whilst this should be the norm it generally isn't, I usually avoid rump steak if another cut is on offer but this is, I think, their only steak and was fabulous. A simple meal, the meat, chips, a Portobello mushroom and small dressed salad. Dessert was a light delicious sticky toffee pudding, again a stand out example of this dish. The staff were attentive without being obtrusive on a very obviously busy evening and extremely pleasant and polite at all times. There was a band on that started I guess around 9pm so we left as we were there for conversation not music and would have been unable to continue. This is not a criticism just a note, I didn't know there was live music and it didn't interfere with the enjoyment of our evening at all. All in all I would highly recommend this pub, it was pleasant surroundings good staff and excellent food.

We had a great experience at the Exmouth Arms with a large group of adults and older children who just finished their exams. Communication was great and we preordered food which was checked when we arrived. The staff had reserved a garden area for our large party which was perfect. Food arrived as ordered and was delicious. Staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us. The whole experience was first class, and we would highly recommend. Thank you to all the staff, we will definitely be back!

Three of us called in for coffee and cake, we waited 15 minutes to get served and 45 minutes for our coffees , the cake was lovely but arrived 40 minutes before our drinks - not even an acknowledgment from the staff of the length of time we were waiting ….sadly nowhere near the experience we usually have when we visit, really poor service.

A friend arranged for our group to meet here so, despite my previous bad experiences at The Exmouth Arms, I attended open minded, half expecting, maybe hoping, the place now showed some improvement. I've travelled the world, seen the bad and the worst, tolerated greasy spoons, endured eating raw sheep's eyeballs to be hospitable to the host, but The Exmouth Arms consistently astounds me by the unwelcoming, arrogant and "couldn't care less" attitude of its staff.

We met friends for drinks only so cannot comment on the food or service. We had a very enjoyable couple of hours.

Pleasant enough pub on Bath Road. Excellent beer garden area too! Serves food, wines etc and decent enough coffee which is also competitively priced. Service was ok but could have been better (one person behind bar, busy delivering food too).

A lovely pub just outside of town with a great outdoor space and a good selection of drinks. Great choice of drinks, and we enjoyed a wood fired pizza from the outdoor kitchen.

If I could give them a negative I would. It's the worst place I've ever been in all of England. The manager was very rude. They would not take a tab, they would not take a 50 pound note. We had 40 to 60 people dropping in at different times throughout the evening. Family had to waitress while 2 family members would stand at the bar ordering 7 to 10 drinks at a time. If they just would have let us have a tab they could have made twice as much money that night and other customers would not have had to wait such a long period to get their order in. One of the reasons we picked that place because it said they had music. There was no music. They did have a nice Pizza stand outside where we were able to order pizzas for our group. That's the only reason I gave them a three on food. There's much more to tell but let's just say, we will never be back.

We had a large group of at least 40 people arriving throughout the evening on a Saturday. They would not let us reserve a spot. At times we were ordering 7 drinks at a time and would cost near $100, yet the manager would not accept a 50 pound bill nor would he hold our credit card for us to have a tab. Not permitting a tab was a huge inconvenience, as we had to stand by the bar inside and waitress to our group instead of being able to socialize with our family. They had 3 bartenders working. It would have been easier for all involved If the manager would have been more accommodating to open a tab. Pizza was good, but Norwood Arms would have been a better choice.

On busy day, don't bother with the food. But the beer garden is nice and big. Drinks are fine, nothing special and a bit pricey

I love the decor, simple & wooden. Delicious food (Ham Egg & Chips, Smoked Mackeral Pate & toast, Sirloin & red onion chutney panini) Helpful staff, especially with mother in a wheelchair. Just really enjoyed, not being bothered by anyone, and slowly eating our light lunch (my dog very welcome, too) 🐶

Service was very good, coffee sensibly priced if perhaps a smallish cup! Much appreciated bit of shortbread biscuit included! Free wifi with a password. Only negative was the size of the coffee cup!

Solid Sunday roast, friendly staff

We came in and was politely greeted by a member of staff straight away, he said they were busy but still made us feel welcome! We could see it was busy and the two boys on the bar was doing their best. It was the best hot chocolate I have ever had and the food was perfect. Was worth the wait! The two lads who both wore glasses deserve something as they went above and beyond for us and we’ll be coming back!!

Not been for a few yrs, glad we came here for Mothers Day. A cracking roast dinner, I had the pork, great service and some good beers...best crumble I've had at a pub too. Well priced and the mums in our party got extra treats....will definitely revisit

We live fairly local and thought we'd try The Exmouth for a quick couple of drinks. Found an empty table and all was good. A bar person came across and quickly put a card on the table saying it was reserved. We did not intend to stay so it was ok. 5 minutes the reservation time we were about to go and a different bar person pretty much told us to leave as the people had arrived early and she needed to clean the table. She told us abruptly there was a table up the stairs if we wanted. I have no intention of doing them a favour by staying. Not a problem that the table is reserved at all... it's just the lack of empathy in being told. Our money is clearly not good enough so I will not be choosing this place for a drink.

My family live in the Midlands and I live in Bristol and I've been trying to find a nice place that's roughly an equal amount of time travel for each party and I'm really pleased to have finally found a pub that we all really enjoy meeting up at! It's Dog friendly which is great , the staff are very lovely, polite and helpful and the atmosphere is always nice. We look forward to coming back soon! :)

Decided on trying the Sunday lunch with friends. I’m vegetarian and I don’t always get excited about the food, as it’s always the usual, nut roast, tart or wellington. Although the option was Vege wellington, I was pleasantly surprised! Presentation was lovely and all the trimmings with it. It was possibly the best I have had and tasted fresh and really nice. I really felt like it was a home made Sunday Lunch. I’m always impressed with the exmouth, dog friendly and staff are so nice and helpful. Highly recommend to anyone especially vegetarians.

Great family friendly pub, with screens and an upstairs area. It's always buzzing with atmosphere and the bar staff cope well with many customers, still taking time to make conversation and be polite. We had nachos and some fries to share after a few drinks - perfect mid afternoon snack-cident ! 🍻

Tried the curry night this week - absolutely brilliant food and served with rice, naan bread and onion slaw which were all delicious! Hope this becomes a regular thing!

Went for Sunday lunch, we went to the bar for a drink then sat down at our reserved table. Nobody came to our table to check on us or take our order for more than 30mins and the restaurant was not even 1/3 full! Poor service so we paid for our drinks and left!

Thank you for a brilliant birthday lunch on Sunday. As always, everyone really enjoyed their food. The roast lamb, parsnip soup and apple crumble were all delicious. We really appreciated the very swift attention with our celebratory bottle of Prosecco too. My mum really enjoyed seeing her friends, it’s been a while since she went out. Thank you for being a relaxed, friendly and comfortable space to visit for all ages. I think your staff are the smiliest and best trained I’ve seen anywhere.

Lovely restaurant that my friends and I have been to on a couple of different occasions, however, not sure what was happening today! We had to ask someone not once but twice if they could take our order when other tables who came before us were being served straight away. When the food did arrive, one of my friends' meals "wasn't put on the order" so she had to wait an extra half an hour just for her meal... It was not a great experience, which was disappointing, but the food was lovely.

Great food, and good size food portions. We were served by a helpful assistant called charlie, who was extremely polite and helpful. Will go back very soon

My visit to this pub was truly delightful! The staff, especially servers Molly and Charlie H, were incredibly friendly. The atmosphere was warm, and the food was simply amazing. A must-visit for anyone looking for great service and delicious meals!

Came in for a spot of food with friends after a new year gathering and really love Cheltenham's pub game! Lots of fun places to go but The Exmouth is one of the best!! I can imagine in the summer with that beer garden it's MADNESS because on a Thursday lunch in early January it was crazy busy so clearly popular. The food was really lovely, we had pork belly with chips and a burger and the portions and presentation were great. Our servers were fantastic and really apologetic for the delays and understaffing (although we hardly felt it) so shout out to Molly & Tom!

I visited this pub recently with my friends .The food was excellent and beautifully presented. So pleased with the service . Very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The chef and the team made all of our experience an incredible one. Special kudos to the starters and the desserts. I would say the sticky toffee pudding here is a must try. The ambiance was perfect too. The menu is highly inclusive and great value for money. Overall I had a great dining experience and looking forward to my next meal here .

I’ve been to the Exmouth on a few occasions over the last few months and have always been very impressed with the standards set. The beer garden is lovely when it’s dry, and the interior is cosy and intimate. The staff have always been really been welcoming. I’ve been served by Lydia on more than one occasion and she is a superb asset to the team. She’s friendly, always had a smile on her face during my interactions with her, is super helpful with food and drink recommendations and seems to always be working hard. The food has always been delicious, the burgers in particular very filling, and thanks to Lydia, I have a new found love of halloumi.

We have had our Christmas meal here for 3 years in a row, we just keep coming back.

When for a Christmas drink with some friends so no food was ordered. The place was clean and tidy. The staff were polite, friendy and efficient.

A pub with a good view of the bar

We popped in to watch rugby so I can't comment on the food. I was delighted that the second time I bought a drink the lady behind the bar found me a thin wine glass to drink my merlot from. It makes all the difference in my opinion, particularly to a very average wine. I'd love more choice of quality wines by the glass. The 3 gents who accompanied me were very disappointed with the 2 choices of real ales as both lacked flavour. The Royal, which we thought was the sister pub, has more choice and tastier real ales. The Guinness was a good substitute though. The atmosphere very lively and typical of a Friday night which we enjoyed. The facilities were good.

We only popped in for quick pint whilst my brother was down for the snooker, so I can't comment on the food. However, the pub was buzzing and full of life. There was plenty of space in the beer garden.

Not the best place in the Bath road to be honest. Overpriced and stupid wait times at bar to get served when busy. Better quality and value pizzas next door at Dominos. Good sized beer garden though when warm.

Great place to unwind , especially in the summer with their great garden, with shade or sun depending on the weather, and how hot it is.

A good pub with a large garden which were serving fresh pizzas 🍕 looked great but I didn't get to try one due to my food intolerances. Service was a little slow but it was a very hot day and there was only limited bar staff on. They got the job done and we're really friendly. We enjoyed our drinks 🍸 cheers 🍻

Great pub, good fun and perfect location. But, you alway queue for a long time to order food and drinks and a lack of urgency from staff.

The benefits of it is that there is nice garden with tables where you can enjoy your time with friends. Prices are accessible and loyal but tge choice of drinks is poor. I recommend to have more soft free alcohol drinks in store. Cleanliness is good but could be better. Hooe you'll pay attention to this notice and your place become better in service level

Quick service, really tasty Sunday roast!

I came in on Saturday and the food, drink and service were great. However I observed a situation where a staff member, who had not long finished their shift, faced abuse from another colleague. As the bar grew busier, it was evident that only one staff member was tending to the customers. This staff member approached their colleague and seemed to be asking for assistance. The staff member then returned with the colleague who was presumably on shift. To my surprise, the situation took an unexpected turn when the second staff member became confrontational to the first staff member. As a customer, I found this incident disheartening, as it created a tense atmosphere and raised concerns about the professionalism among staff members.

It has a big and nice garden, wonderful atmosphere, and friendly staff.

Only went for Sunday quiz, very enjoyable, will go back.

Beer was good but the bar dude seemed confused and after giving us a table number outside the place didn't seem to want to accept a burger order at half 7 on a Tuesday; Burger night 🤷.

A real surprise at an excellent price. I went for the bhaji burger and was blown away at how good this was. Couple this with the exmouth lager and a real winner.

I unfortunately was distracted by my friends who I haven't seen since moving to the UK, and didn't take any pics. Great ambience. Lovely lawned seating area, with a wall high enough for privacy. Definitely a go-back-to kind of watering hole.

Nice pub first time being here. Craft lager is great. Customer service could do with being a bit more customer service like but altogether a very nice experience.

Being visitors we had no expectations of The Exmouth. We ordered the chicken Satay and rice and salad. And the chicken filet burger with bacon and cheese and chips We split each dish. They both got top marks. The chicken was particularly tasty. Well done to the chef

Great service tonight. I made a mistake when ordering saying vegan instead of gluten free so we got the wrong meal. The manageress insisted she change it even though it was completely my fault. Real class. The food was fantastic too

Visited this pub on Tuesday burger night (by chance). Wife had mushroom and goat cheese burger, daughter had Courgette and onion burger. I have regular burger with Stilton.Food was delivered quickly and hot. Very pleased with quality. Only change I would make is to have homemade patties rather than bought in. Would significantly upgrade the beef burger.Staff very pleasant and helpful.Selection of beers great.

Visited with my mother. There was not a single vegan option on the menu and when I asked for a vegetarian burger to be amended (remove cheese) I was told it was not possible as there was no dairy free bread. They finally provided was one small mushroom on some shredded lettuce for which I was charged full meal price. Extraordinary poor service & bad experience.
