Haddock, chips & peas were first class, not greasy, well cooked & excellent quality, proper home made chips! Cooked to order & were offered more chips & tea!

Really disappointed recently. We have been coming here since it opened and the food has always been very good. We had 4 meals 2 weeks ago and the chips were dry, hard and overcooked. We were hopeing that it was just a once off but we went back last week and the chips were just the same! We did speak to the young lad behind the counter before we ordered who apologised and said it wouldn't happen again. Well it did! We waited 50 minutes for our food. They had dished 3 meals up and because someone else had taken the nuggets we ordered, they left the 3 meals on the side whilst the nuggets cooked and still proceeded to give us the same 3 meals so by the time we came to eat them, they were stone cold with only the 1 being hot. Deliveries seem to take priority over customers in the shop who get forgotten about. Prices have gone up (a big increase), and the food has gone down hill! Unfortunately we wont be back.

Have eaten in (bottomless chips anyone?!), taken away, and had delivered by Deliveroo. The food is yummy! The batter on the fish is always so light and crispy! Highly recommend 😊

Very impressed overall. The food was hot and relatively appropriately priced for Dining-in. Staff table servers were spot-on. A good experience.

No regrets for having driven 30 minutes to come. Welcoming and attentive staff. The fish & chips are super good and generous (even the children's portion) and the breading is very light. Unfortunately space is a little limited in place so if you want to eat there, book in advance (we saw people having to go out because there was no more space)

Small restaurant with also take/away service. Very good food. We ate the fish & chips and promoted the dish. The fish was very large and the chips are "all you can eat", so if you want more you can top up the portion. Very small place with a few tables on the ground floor and a larger room in the basement. Promoted!

Unbelievable, fish and chips! For a really, really great price too. We were walking through the city and looking for quick bite in between lunch and dinner. We had heard about this place, but didn’t quite know what to expect. It is super clean and great music. A gentleman who served us was so helpful and friendly, helped us pick the best best fish. We had the haddock. Victor gave us a great recommendation for our tastes and also served us he was amazing. We could not even eat all the chips that were given to us, even though apparently it is unlimited. The fish was really fantastic- fresh and not over breaded as so many fish and chips are. Did I mention the curry sauce? If you like curry at all, you should definitely have the curry sauce. Will definitely stop by again when I’m in town.

I must say that the haddock was superb. I can say I've never had better fish and chips at home. The batter and crisp was amazing. Also, curry sauce is a must to bring to north america. Also the staff is so great, I'll be back in my short stay

Reserved a table. Looked after well on arrival. Menu suited us both - smaller serving for me. Food was spot on and service was fun and chatty. An ideal location during the Book Festival. 🤗

Very disappointing, after ordering from here last week and receiving a great meal, tonight i persuaded my partner to order from here too via Uber. 2 x pies and 1 x large chips with 2 x millionares shortbread (@£4.90 each!). When it arrived we received only 1x pie but 2 lots of chips and the millionaires shortbread was inedible as they had melted to a congealed lump. The hot food was by now cold and contacting the restaurant was frustratingly difficult with no satisfactory resolution. Will not be using them again.

A chip shop that has more enough saveloys. My childhood favourite kind of sausage. Any other chip shop I go to, they don't seem to have them. But the best thing is this chip shop, is it's a lot closer to home My only complaint, is when you wait for your order. It's not enough space to stand. When there are other people waiting

Amazing place, came with my boyfriend and they were very very pleasant, food was great, unfortunately I've forgotten both of the staffs names, but one was a new starter who did a great job considering how nervous he looked, and the other guy was very down to earth and friendly. Would recommend if you want a chip shop with a restaurant vibe

Ate here this eve, Sun 08/09 and really enjoyed the Fish & Chips. Welcoming staff, Ozzie & Archie. We both had the small meal (what a great idea) and extra chips if required. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended, perfectly cooked fish.

Sat in with my son after a few drinks next door.skin on haddock was amazing my son gave the cod the thumbs up and free refill on chips if u needed anymore

I originally rated this 5/5... But I am utterly disgusted 🤢. I have just found out they use beef dripping only. I am hindu!!! I feel absolutely sick that this was not made know. Vegetarian and vegan AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Very very disappointed, will not eat here again!

Update your opening hours! Perhaps instead of just posting a generic response to feedback you could actually read it and update your opening hours??? Then I may actually be able to try your food and give feedback.

I hardly write reviews but this place deserved it - The BEST fish & chips I’ve ever had! The restaurant is very clean with plenty of seating, not many places to eat in for fish & chips, so really enjoyed having it in with my children after school. Also very friendly, happy staff. The food was fresh and very well presented, My two boys have asked when we can go back! We had the fish, chips and buttered sausage, i would 100% recommend, it’s a 10/10 No other place like it!

Fantastic restaurant. Went there for lunch. Was seated straight away. Food came within 20 minutes. It was very tasty and fresh. Excellent customer service. They have free WiFi as phone reception is poor in that area. Restaurant nice and clean.

Since leaving Cheltenham for the dizzy nights of Manchester 3 years ago, I have struggled to find a really good fish and chip supper, so I come back every 3 months to satisfy my craving at the Chip Shed. Hot and perfectly cooked every time, the chips are chunky, but not wedges, just brown and dry. Fish batter light and crispy to compliment the flaky chunky fish, whichever one you choose. Mushy peas are a must but the deal breaker is the curry sauce, unlike any other it has substance with a slight sweetness. Portions are generous and very good value for money making them worth the 2.5 hour drive.

We recently enjoyed a delightful take-away dinner from The Chip Shed in Cheltenham, which truly hit the spot and helped us welcome some new friends to the UK from Australia. We have been trying to find some traditional English fish and chips, knowing it is an English staple. We opened the order by confessing we didn’t know what we were doing and were pleased with the friendly and helpful service. The staff guided us on what to order, ensuring we got a great variety of things to help us get the full experience. We chose Cod, Plaice, Scampi, Whitebait, and of course, Chips. Each item was of excellent quality, freshly prepared, and wonderfully crispy. The Cod and Plaice were perfectly flaky, the Scampi was succulent, and the Whitebait was yummy. The Chips were golden and crunchy, and made for a satisfying accompaniment. Knowing Fish and Chips are a staple of traditional English cuisine, known for their hearty portions and comfort food reputation. Our meal from The Chip Shed allowed us to indulge in this classic dish while watching football, on a night England won, making for a perfect evening. Highly recommend The Chip Shed for a friendly place offering the taste of authentic English fish and chips.

Had fish, chips and mushy peas. The food was freshly cooked and looked lovely but it had no taste. The chips were mostly hard and the fish was bland. The best thing was the mushy peas. Won't be returning.

Delicious fish n chips! Although they forgot my tartar sauce, but I should have double checked before we left. It was a busy Friday so I wont fault them for that. Will definitely be back.

Shockingly bad tasteless food. Empty shop but still waited 15 minutes. Almost £12 for the worst cod and chips I have ever had. The fish had no taste at all. The chips omg, never had something made from a simple ingredient be cooked so badly that they lacked any flavour! Most of them thankfully were stuck to the paper in the box so didn’t have to endure too many. Awful, what a disappointment.

My friend and I popped in for a quick bite . The dark haired gentle serving was very Helpful . My friend and I ordered and sat down . I stood up and went to get myself a glass and said politely I hope you don’t mind I am just getting a glass . The other staff member rudely said we do . You ordered a take away . So I went to the counter and said I am sorry what did I pay for . This was my first time at the Chip shed and didn’t realise that there was a was a separate menu or price . Before I could understand what had happened . The other rude staff member laid into me in such a passive aggressive manner , saying he knew what type of person I was ,!!! that I knew exactly what I was doing . How should I be allowed to get away with not paying sit down prices like the customer sitting there . Making an example of me in-front of your one customer sitting down . Then accused My friend of not having paid for her food the previous day . But yelling at me .. all the while I am trying to understand if I needed To pay more I would have . Like I said I had never been there before . We had to eat our lunch in the car . It was disgusting behaviour I have NEVER been spoken to like that . We are both buiness owners in the service industry . I have tried to reach out to the owners but no response . So I say this . I will never eat there again . I will also tell everyone of my clients and friends not to either . How dare he be so rude . There was a better way to deal with this . Just disgusting disgusting behaviour … i bet this is not the first time this man has treated customers like this !!

I ordered online and my pickup time was 12...I arrived at 12-05 only to be told my order had "just come through". even though I'd prepaid and received a confirmation email an hour before, I had to wait while my order was cooked which isn't the end of the world but when they forgot to add the sweet chilli sauce for my halloumi it just pissed me off and I had to write a review ..food was great but service could be better...back to Charlies I guess...

Quality fish and delicious crisp chips.

Ordered our (very expensive fish and chips) waiting time was reasonable and very clean inside. We got home to find out fish broken in the boxes as they were not big enough and rammed in. I also found that we were short of chips. The chips were very disappointing as they are repeatedly fried to warm them back up were soggy and greasy. Got 7 pieces for £6. Would recommend a lot of other before going here. Pretentious and over priced due to the location.

My college an I ordered a calamari and small chips today for lunch, totally disgusted with what we paid for regarding the calamari £5.80 for six pieces of calamari served on a serviette in a take away box, no salad or lemon. I have ordered the same a few weeks back and it was presented and served with both.

Amazing chips and chicken bites. Went in last night at 8pm. After my order I was walking around looking for the toilet as I couldn’t see any signage. The guy frying the food, told me off for walking around and ask to take a seat. I said I was looking for toilet than he apologised. Then when my order was ready, I went to sit down and eat. It was probably 8.15pm. The guy asks me to leave as they are starting to clean the area - closing soon he says. I said okay. Then he says you didn’t pay for sit in anyway, I wasn’t asked, so maybe I should’ve get the memo then that they didn’t want people in. Anyway, maybe the dude had a bad day, but boy he was so rude. The food is great, I hope they get better customer service oriented employees.

We sat down and tried to order a vegetarian meal from the menu and were told all the food, including the chips, are cooked in beef dripping. Despite the fact the menu states they have several vegetarian items available. The waitress was very apologetic but it’s unbelievable that they advertise a vegetarian menu and then tell you that your vegetarian sausage and other vegetarian items must be cooked in beef dripping! If you try to pre order online it doesn’t mention anywhere about this. Surely this is illegal? Vegetarians beware!

Very slow service, ordered cheesy chips. Grated cheese served over chips. when asked why cheese wasn't melted told they could be microwaved but we would have to wait as they were busy. £4.55

Mixed reviews on the web however our experience was positive. Good range of dishes, variety of fish. Hake was very good. Christmas special of battered sprouts! Service was ok. Very good toilets (downstairs).

Gastro style fish and chips, with the elevated prices you'd expect. Small portions, quality not as good as a classic chip shop fare and a lot more expensive.

Untrained staff who are rude and impertinent. Food actually looked really good but based on how they were treating customers we walked out.

The chips were quite average, fish was average and steak pie had good flavour but very dry. Onion rings were way too oily. Portion size was pretty good and the service was nice and friendly. I think they tried their best with the food and service. However, the prices were really high. I can agree to pay higher prices if the quality is excellent but I've had much better quality at cheaper places. I can imagine the rent in this location is extremely high hence they have to charge such prices. Another bit of feedback I'd like to give is that they need to put their dine-in prices on their website because the prices on their website can be mis-interpretted so it is a bit of shock when you arrive and they are so much more expensive. Just for transparency purposes.

We fancied fish and chips on our way home and friends mentioned this place, so we thought we'd give it try and we were not disappointed! We ate in as it was cold outside and we didn't fancy walking home eating our food. Fish was lovely, fresh and well cooked, chips were spot on and the curry sauce is outstanding - bottomless chips too. Yes it's a little on the pricey side but hey, you get what you pay for and this was well worth the money. Hawkstone Lager is worth a glass too (thank you Jeremy Clarkson).

Chips are cooked in beef dripping so no good for vegetarians or vegans.

Can’t comment on the quality (or otherwise) of the food as we didn’t actually get to eat any having left before ordering. I booked a table online, after checking out the only menu available to view, but when seated we were handed a menu which priced cod, chips, mushy peas at £16.10. This is £5 more than the online menu which is for take outs - £5 each just to sit down and it is after all nothing more than a chippy with a few tables and chairs. I feel that not displaying the “eat in” menu prices online is nothing short of deceitful and expressed my opinion to the manager; why otherwise would they not display the eat in menu online. Be aware when reserving online.

Pretentious & overpriced! Just under £10 for a fish cake and chips! Chips were mediocre and the fish cake was 3 inches thick, which may be to some people’s liking but not mine, all felt a little OTT. Won’t be going back

Ordered a Deliveroo premium which arrived quickly - there the compliments stop. The food was completely inedible and had to be thrown away so eevryone went hungry. Fish was dry and would not flake at all. Chips contained black area and were hard, dry and lukewarm. Never to be repeated. Don't know what this place got awards for but it wasn't cooking!

Got a takeaway from here on a rainy Saturday night. Probably the best chippy cod we have ever had! Absolutely huge and beautifully cooked in light crispy batter. Just wished we lived closer as would definitely be regulars.

Good fish and chips though some reviews out there seem, IMHO, to over rate it as exceptional. After a few visits I haven't really noticed the food to be really that outstanding compared to the competition. The prices are fairly high though the location maybe accounts for that. Staff are pleasant and polite.

Food was fresh and tasty, generous sized portions. I really enjoyed the curry sauce, one of the best i have had. Chips and Cod were delicious, highly recommend.

Takeaway chips are soggy & terrible, fish was ok, battered sausage was just a standard ar*eholes and eyeballs variety. The chap behind the counter needs some customer service training. Shame really given the perfect location.

First time trying this place and it was ok. The fish was one size and was long and thin. Chips were ok. Curry Sauce was sweet and runny. Portion size was good. Food was cooked fresh and took about 10 minutes.

The food here is consistently delicious, I go here regularly for what really are the BEST chips in Cheltenham. It gets very busy but you’re served quickly and with big smiles from all the staff! Heartily recommended.

Could not complain about the quality of the food we received. However part of our pre ordered takeaway was incorrect. Halloumi side order instead of halloumi meal which left a disappointed veggie as she could not eat the beef dripping chips. We left a message on the answerphone 4 days ago but no one has responded. Disappointing, considering how good the food we did receive was.
