Shockingly bad tasteless food. Empty shop but still waited 15 minutes. Almost £12 for the worst cod and chips I have ever had. The fish had no taste at all. The chips omg, never had something made from a simple ingredient be cooked so badly that they lacked any flavour! Most of them thankfully were stuck to the paper in the box so didn’t have to endure too many. Awful, what a disappointment.

Very average fish n' chips, but appalling service. Waited 50 mins for take away and not even a hint of an apology! Be warned: do not go if you're in a hurry.

I ordered online and my pickup time was 12...I arrived at 12-05 only to be told my order had "just come through". even though I'd prepaid and received a confirmation email an hour before, I had to wait while my order was cooked which isn't the end of the world but when they forgot to add the sweet chilli sauce for my halloumi it just pissed me off and I had to write a review ..food was great but service could be better...back to Charlies I guess...

My friend and I popped in for a quick bite . The dark haired gentle serving was very Helpful . My friend and I ordered and sat down . I stood up and went to get myself a glass and said politely I hope you don’t mind I am just getting a glass . The other staff member rudely said we do . You ordered a take away . So I went to the counter and said I am sorry what did I pay for . This was my first time at the Chip shed and didn’t realise that there was a was a separate menu or price . Before I could understand what had happened . The other rude staff member laid into me in such a passive aggressive manner , saying he knew what type of person I was ,!!! that I knew exactly what I was doing . How should I be allowed to get away with not paying sit down prices like the customer sitting there . Making an example of me in-front of your one customer sitting down . Then accused My friend of not having paid for her food the previous day . But yelling at me .. all the while I am trying to understand if I needed To pay more I would have . Like I said I had never been there before . We had to eat our lunch in the car . It was disgusting behaviour I have NEVER been spoken to like that . We are both buiness owners in the service industry . I have tried to reach out to the owners but no response . So I say this . I will never eat there again . I will also tell everyone of my clients and friends not to either . How dare he be so rude . There was a better way to deal with this . Just disgusting disgusting behaviour … i bet this is not the first time this man has treated customers like this !!

Quality fish and delicious crisp chips.

Ordered our (very expensive fish and chips) waiting time was reasonable and very clean inside. We got home to find out fish broken in the boxes as they were not big enough and rammed in. I also found that we were short of chips. The chips were very disappointing as they are repeatedly fried to warm them back up were soggy and greasy. Got 7 pieces for £6. Would recommend a lot of other before going here. Pretentious and over priced due to the location.

My college an I ordered a calamari and small chips today for lunch, totally disgusted with what we paid for regarding the calamari £5.80 for six pieces of calamari served on a serviette in a take away box, no salad or lemon. I have ordered the same a few weeks back and it was presented and served with both.

Amazing chips and chicken bites. Went in last night at 8pm. After my order I was walking around looking for the toilet as I couldn’t see any signage. The guy frying the food, told me off for walking around and ask to take a seat. I said I was looking for toilet than he apologised. Then when my order was ready, I went to sit down and eat. It was probably 8.15pm. The guy asks me to leave as they are starting to clean the area - closing soon he says. I said okay. Then he says you didn’t pay for sit in anyway, I wasn’t asked, so maybe I should’ve get the memo then that they didn’t want people in. Anyway, maybe the dude had a bad day, but boy he was so rude. The food is great, I hope they get better customer service oriented employees.

We sat down and tried to order a vegetarian meal from the menu and were told all the food, including the chips, are cooked in beef dripping. Despite the fact the menu states they have several vegetarian items available. The waitress was very apologetic but it’s unbelievable that they advertise a vegetarian menu and then tell you that your vegetarian sausage and other vegetarian items must be cooked in beef dripping! If you try to pre order online it doesn’t mention anywhere about this. Surely this is illegal? Vegetarians beware!

Very slow service, ordered cheesy chips. Grated cheese served over chips. when asked why cheese wasn't melted told they could be microwaved but we would have to wait as they were busy. £4.55

We went with friends on Friday circa 6.30pm, great thing was their totally dog friendly, really friendly guys behind the counter, beautiful freshly cooked Cod and chips, small but very nice wine list. Chips are free flow, you get a nice sized portion of freshly fried chips in a basket but when you’ve eaten them and would like more you just ask one of the team and they bring you another portion fresh and hot at no additional cost! We ate in, a good sized piece of fresh cod, chips and a choice of mushy peas or chip shop curry circa £16, home made pies and a great menu selection. We’ll be back very soon and we’re happy to tell our friends!

An incredible fish and chips! Everything on the plate was done to perfection! Highly recommend.

Mixed reviews on the web however our experience was positive. Good range of dishes, variety of fish. Hake was very good. Christmas special of battered sprouts! Service was ok. Very good toilets (downstairs).

Gastro style fish and chips, with the elevated prices you'd expect. Small portions, quality not as good as a classic chip shop fare and a lot more expensive.

Excellent quality, the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We ordered a pie and chips and X3 kids cod bites and chips, portion sizes were incredible. Fresh oil, great taste I would Highly recommend this lovely place. 😁

The chips were quite average, fish was average and steak pie had good flavour but very dry. Onion rings were way too oily. Portion size was pretty good and the service was nice and friendly. I think they tried their best with the food and service. However, the prices were really high. I can agree to pay higher prices if the quality is excellent but I've had much better quality at cheaper places. I can imagine the rent in this location is extremely high hence they have to charge such prices. Another bit of feedback I'd like to give is that they need to put their dine-in prices on their website because the prices on their website can be mis-interpretted so it is a bit of shock when you arrive and they are so much more expensive. Just for transparency purposes.

We fancied fish and chips on our way home and friends mentioned this place, so we thought we'd give it try and we were not disappointed! We ate in as it was cold outside and we didn't fancy walking home eating our food. Fish was lovely, fresh and well cooked, chips were spot on and the curry sauce is outstanding - bottomless chips too. Yes it's a little on the pricey side but hey, you get what you pay for and this was well worth the money. Hawkstone Lager is worth a glass too (thank you Jeremy Clarkson).

Chips are cooked in beef dripping so no good for vegetarians or vegans.

Pretentious & overpriced! Just under £10 for a fish cake and chips! Chips were mediocre and the fish cake was 3 inches thick, which may be to some people’s liking but not mine, all felt a little OTT. Won’t be going back

Can’t comment on the quality (or otherwise) of the food as we didn’t actually get to eat any having left before ordering. I booked a table online, after checking out the only menu available to view, but when seated we were handed a menu which priced cod, chips, mushy peas at £16.10. This is £5 more than the online menu which is for take outs - £5 each just to sit down and it is after all nothing more than a chippy with a few tables and chairs. I feel that not displaying the “eat in” menu prices online is nothing short of deceitful and expressed my opinion to the manager; why otherwise would they not display the eat in menu online. Be aware when reserving online.

Ordered a Deliveroo premium which arrived quickly - there the compliments stop. The food was completely inedible and had to be thrown away so eevryone went hungry. Fish was dry and would not flake at all. Chips contained black area and were hard, dry and lukewarm. Never to be repeated. Don't know what this place got awards for but it wasn't cooking!

Got a takeaway from here on a rainy Saturday night. Probably the best chippy cod we have ever had! Absolutely huge and beautifully cooked in light crispy batter. Just wished we lived closer as would definitely be regulars.

Good fish and chips though some reviews out there seem, IMHO, to over rate it as exceptional. After a few visits I haven't really noticed the food to be really that outstanding compared to the competition. The prices are fairly high though the location maybe accounts for that. Staff are pleasant and polite.

First time trying this place and it was ok. The fish was one size and was long and thin. Chips were ok. Curry Sauce was sweet and runny. Portion size was good. Food was cooked fresh and took about 10 minutes.

The food here is consistently delicious, I go here regularly for what really are the BEST chips in Cheltenham. It gets very busy but you’re served quickly and with big smiles from all the staff! Heartily recommended.

Could not complain about the quality of the food we received. However part of our pre ordered takeaway was incorrect. Halloumi side order instead of halloumi meal which left a disappointed veggie as she could not eat the beef dripping chips. We left a message on the answerphone 4 days ago but no one has responded. Disappointing, considering how good the food we did receive was.

I had homemade fish cake, curry sauce, and chips, an English classic. The fish cake was fantastic 😋 👌 really good size, crispy outside, and tasty fish filling. Chips were well cooked and not soggy, and the curry sauce was outstanding. It's definitely the go-to chip shop 👍🏻.

Fish 10/10 good portion, lovely fish, nice batter and well cooked. Chips again good, not the best I’ve had but up there, maybe 8/10? We ate in and you can ask for more chips which was a nice touch. Also a choice of mushy peas, normal peas or curry sauce. Cod and chips with drinks for 2, £43. Possibly on the high side for F&C but given the quality and location I’d say fair enough.

A sudden yen for fish and chips tonight had me looking for a chippy near my holiday rental. This was the first that came up and the review was good so I made the 11 minute walk and was not disappointed. It must be the best chippy meal I’ve had for 20 odd years. The haddock was large and perfectly cooked in fresh oil. The batter didn’t make me gag and the chips were dark, thick, plentiful and just right. Worth going back again before I leave the UK. Recommended. PS good to see Haloumi on the menu!

Genuinely surprised at the price £21 for 2 big eaters, very nice chips and cod as-well as sausages being pristine. Will definitely be coming back as they are so welcoming!

I ordered via Deliveroo a few days ago, plaice and chips. The fish was fine, nicely cooked with crispy batter. However the chips were such a disappointment, over cooked, dry and brown, so bad that I ate a few and threw the rest away. This was my first time ordering from the Chip Shed and I'm sorry to say it will be my last.

Friendly staff, and possibly the best battered fish that I can remember. When I commented on this, the cook explained what they do to make sure it's not greasy. If you dine in, the chips are on tap, but tbh the portions were ample. Vanilla milk shake was top notch.

Just lovely. The chips are wonderful. The steak pie is rich and full of chunks of meat. The homemade fish cake is fantastic!!. The curry sauce tastes divine!!! And the gravy is just awesome 👌!!!!! Everything is fantastic!!!.

BEEF DRIPPING + CHEESE POWDER CHIPS. Weird chips, that felt battered and kind of cheesy, like freezer chips with a coating. Not a fan. Also, malt vinegar, not the normal non-brewed condiment. They also use beef dripping in their fryers without advertising, so their chips aren’t vegetarian, kosher, or halal. Not keen on the choices, nor total lack of advertising their beef dripping/cheese coating. Not real chips, and you’re charged through the nose. Pretentious chip shop and I’d recommend avoiding. My group wouldn’t finish them due to weird flavour. Not advertising that your chips aren’t suitable for 20% of the UK population is a joke.

We ate in the first time and my fish was raw in the middle. The server was very apologetic and explained that the "chef" was new and prepared a new piece of fish. The replacement fish was overcooked. We decided to give them another chance a couple of weeks later and ordered chips to take away, i couldn't believe the small portion size, i took a photo for you to decide, we won't be going back. We ordered at the counter at about 7.30pm, it was a young lady that served us. As others have said the chips were dry and the portion size was tiny.

Arrived at 9.45pm, after they advertised 10pm closing. I was the informed that they only had 2 pies and a sausage with chips available, I said ok, I will have 2 pies and chips, and then a completely nonchalant member of staff said ahh, actually, looks like we haven't got any chips! I suggest that you change your advertised opening times if this is to be the case, yes, it's no doubt inconvenient to you to have to cook stuff to cover your customers wishes to your advertised opening times, but at the end of the day it's about your customer and what you advertise, not the inconvenience your customer might cause you. Never buying anything from you again.

Popped in today and got a takeaway. Friendly service, great looking menu (I'm the strange individual that doesn't like chips, or fish) so opted for the halloumi burger. Quite possibly the best halloumi burger I've ever tasted! I was blown away and my husband wanted to share (mitts off, no chance!). I own a business on the same road, so I see this being not great for my waist line. Next time we have a staff meeting I'll be sure to pop in with the team. Thank you!

This is our third time of buying fish and chips, the first and second time were excellent the fish was cooked well and was nice and plump and moist the chips were also lovely. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the ones we have just brought home and have eaten, on opening the boxes the cod goujons turned out to be chicken nuggets and there were only four and not the five as advertised. The piece of cod was very thin and almost none existent at one end and the batter was overdone and greasy. Will probably give them another chance as the first two meals were lovely.

I only give this a one star because it's the lowest rating. I paid £9.30 for this! Two regular portions of chips and a sausage. I didn't realise the small size of the portions until we got home. These chips have to rate as some of the worst chips I've ever eaten. They tasted terrible and were dry and the skins were full of eyes in them. We will definitely not be going back there! Disgraceful.

Please put your prices on the menu outside the shop…….I’m not a huge fish and chip fan but this was by far the best I have ever tasted; light batter , flavoursome cod, chips just with enough crispness and gravy I could almost drink it was so delicious. A definite treat. PH

The quality of the food was really good, we had a mix of items and they were all very enjoyable, the chips especially. we had an issue when it came to collecting our order, half our order was missing and when I queried this with the team they believed that I had not been charged for the missing items (which I actually had paid for). It was sorted quickly and everyone was pretty friendly, just not a brilliant first impression. I really want this place to do well as its local to me so I hope the feedback helps.

Not for me unfortunately, there was a funny oily smell and the food smelt of oil. Its had lots of good reviews though and in a great location...to be fair the curry sauce was delicious and the price was reasonable compared to others and its location

Had our first takeaway tonight and really impressed. It is much better to have your dinner cooked to order! Our fish was lovely and fresh with crisp batter and the best chips I have had for a long time. Will become a regular.- good to have you in Cheltenham
