The Exchange in Winchester

Advertising themselves as a sports bar/European cup showing pub with flags everywhere. Turned up with several friends to watch a game along with multiple people in the bar, no commentary on the game, only music!!! Several attempts to get the music turned down met by “we have to ask the landlord’s permission”! Crap atmosphere & even worse management. Won’t be going there again.

The man working here was absolutely vile to me and my friends. My friend ordered a drink at the bar and due to the karaoke being so loud, the bar man struggled to hear. So after my friend received his drink, the man then pulled him aside and shouted arguing that my friend was disrespectful and rude because he hadn’t said his ‘please and thank yous’. I was standing nearby at our table, shocked by the man’s outburst. And he came over to me, out from behind the bar, losing it, yelling at me up in my face asking if I had a problem with him and ‘why are you looking at me like that’. I was extremely polite shaking my head and backing away. This man deliberately intimidated me. I have been to the exchange before and never had an issue, but having a fully grown man shouting in my face was not nice. After this, my friends and I understandably decided to leave. We had been playing pool and had been asked to leave a £10 note deposit behind the bar. When we went to leave we were told that we had already been given the money back. And after a back and forth, the man finally admitted his mistake and pulled out a £10 to give to us. I think if we hadn’t caused such a stir he’d have pocketed it! I was looking forward to watching the euros this summer at the exchange, but I honestly would say that this experience made me feel so uncomfortable I would recommend everyone finds somewhere better to spend their money and to avoid the verbal abuse from the staff members here!

The atmosphere in the pub is great with the pool table and the karaoke but the customer service was very poor I was ordering a drink while someone was singing karaoke it was too loud to converse normally so I pointed at the drink I wanted, once I paid I nodded my head to say thanks. however, they proceeded to take me to the side and say that I was disrespectful that I didn’t say thank you even though they wouldn’t of heard me anyway even if I had said it. They also told me that “I hope your friends are not as disrespectful as you are” and the I am lucky to play on the pool table even know the regulars are here. A similar conversation also happened with a member of the group I was in. As a barman myself, I am very disappointed that they would treat a customer in that manner!

Absolutely disgustingly rude managers who treat their staff and customers like sh*t definitely would avoid at all costs unless being belittled and sworn at is your thing

Was here last night with a group of friends so we spent a fair amount of money on drinks. While there my friends went to play pool and I one other popped into the smoking area on returning the bar staff had cleared all our drinks for the table which was about 7 drinks You could clearly see that 3 of the pints were just poured not even a sip had been taken out of them. The rest were about half full so you could see that someone wouldnt buy a round of drinks not even thouch them and leave. I had one fag and come straight back to the now empty table. I spoke to a lady on the bar, who said she would speak to management as they were upstairs. She did this via text and at no point did management come and speak to us. They totally refuse to replace our drinks and I then said instead of replacing the whole seven can you just replace two of the beers to which the reply was the table has been empty for ages I asked them to look on the CCTV in fact it hadn’t had only been a few minutes. To say how rude and disappointed we are with the service would be understatement. You don’t take people's drinks and then refuse to replace them.!!!!

I never ever write reviews but absolutely disgusted with the bar manager and team. Having a lovely pre-Christmas drinks day with 10+ friends (who are all in their 50’s) unfortunately another person in the bar area accused one of our party of stealing his drink but my friend was sitting down with me the entire time. I never play the race card, but my lovely friend, who is black, got asked to leave by the bar manager and security who sided with this one person. Sorry but total shocking that they backed this individual rather than our party who had been in the pub a couple of hours already and having a lovely time, racism??!! Will never go back to this place

We played here and had a lovely evening. The staff are friendly and helpful. The sound system is amazing. Decor is fab.

Great evening had by all of us. Such a nice atmosphere to have drinks with friends. The managers seemed very welcoming!

We come here often. Always found all the staff friendly. Good service at the bar and they are on top of anyone who is causing any issues or trying to take drugs. Also have a pool table and sports on the TV and good music choices playing.

Called last orders, but only served some customers and not others. Then kicked everyone out (rudely) ten minutes after last orders. Is 10 minutes long enough to order and finish a last drink? Don’t think so. It’s a nice looking place but I wouldn’t recommend if you actually want to buy anything

The woman was on the bar last Saturday has no place in hospitality. few of us asked if there were any tables free and she snapped back 'does it f***ing look like it mate'. After that pleasant interaction we swiftly left but not before daring to use to loo's and tracking through puddles of piss all over the floor. Never again - sort it out.

The bar staff are extremely rude, I have been personally victimised by this one bar staff member every time I have been in there, I have been asked to leave numerous amounts of times for numerous reasons that are different every time! Waited for my drinks for an hour to be told they’d been ‘lost’ on the system to then be told we where too drunk to order any more drinks. An absolute shambles of a place!

One particular bar lady was very rude and shouted in our faces due to a miscommunication regarding it being table service, having to work in customer service myself this lady dealt with the situation very unprofessionally and immaturely. After sorting everything with another member of staff (he was lovely) we were allowed to order some drinks however after waiting an hour we questioned where they were (thinking maybe it’s because they said they’re short staffed) but instead coincidentally our drinks got “lost on the system” and then continued to tell us that we were not allowed to order any drinks now because our friends were apparently too drunk yet they weren’t at all.

We came to the exchange for my 25th birthday and our celebrations at turtle bay got cancelled ! Jessica went above and beyond to ensure we still had the best night ! She is a credit to the business great customer service and every time we come here she looks after us ! Would highly recommend and thank you Jessica for everything you have done xxx

Liv and Lela gave amazing service which was also very quick, they were very friendly and attentive to our every need. 10/10 will come here again.

We visited on the 13th June. England had played that day and it was clear the staff were stressed. After witnessing a member of staff who we believe was called Lela crying at another table while serving my friend decided to purchase her a staff drink. This cost her £4. She then informed her she had bought her a drink well within talking distance, face to face (she was not wearing a mask) and she was blanked. Another member of our group tried to get her to respond by saying “Urm” and still nothing. As a hospitality worker myself I understand that shifts can be stressful but if a customer goes out of their way to buy you a drink after seeing you in tears the least you can do is say thank you!!

Other than some staff members who were rude, the pub is great, so is the outside area, but these staff members ruined it for everyone. One was really arrogant, and refused to serve us. Then another person came and served us saying that they were our waitress not the other girl?? The girl started off nice, but made use really uncomfortable by sitting on our table without a mask on? Hello? It’s a pandemic? Should report this place to the council! Both girls later sat on other customers tables without masks on? Wouldn’t be surprised if the whole place closed as a COVID hotspot!

This is my favourite pub in Winchester! Lovely staff, and great prices. Always a brilliant atmosphere and would also highly recommend the Mars bar shots😉

I can honestly say this is the worst pub I’ve visited! Their bar staff were obviously drunk, rude and not welcoming at all! Their prices are reasonable but makes sense considering the standard of their services! Disgusting experience and would definitely not recommend! Nice in interior, good prices and good for watching the games but ruined by the service!

Un montón de pantallas, buena variedad de cerveza y bien cuidado con el personal ocupado. . . si te estás juntando para ver el partido, es perfecto. Aunque es grande, llegue temprano porque en los grandes juegos se llena.¡Tiene un rumor probablemente mejor que otros para esas ocasiones!

Came in here for a drink in the afternoon with my wife. Pub was busy. Sports bar with tv's. Good atmosphere. Happy staff.

Visited for a pint which was fine. A bit too loud inside and a bit too smoky outside. Good TVs for watching sport.

A sports pub, with football and rugby shown on several large screens. Beer good, staff very helpful, though no food available.

Which begs the question why? Once inside, painfully obvious. Dirty and shambolic. There are plenty of better pubs in town - AVOID

He pasado este pub unas cuantas veces y nunca estoy seguro de si debía ir por dentro. Parece un poco oscuro desde el exterior. Yo no podía estar más equivocados! Fue una delicia cuando finalmente fui! El bar es enorme! Tiene cómodos asientos. El selectin de bebidas es bueno. Incluso hay una buena zona de jardín de tamaño mediano. Sin duda volveremos aquí en mi próximo viaje a Winchester.

El cambio es un gran lugar para tomar una bebida, el personal es genial y para ser grave, no es un lugar para comer, a menos que realmente están allí para un juego, ya que es un bar de deportes, así que podrá tomar como orden.

I had catch up with a few old friends in their big garden . The atmosphere was lively and the bar staff were attentive and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this pub! I definitely recommend!

Reasonable price drinks and good sports bar/ pub. Could do with an interior refurb. Staff are friendly and good to pop in with friends.

I have had several lunches recently at the Exchange and found their food to be very tasty, well presented and plentiful in quantity. I have had both baguette sandwiches and one of their home made chilli meals on separate occasions and every meal has been full of taste and left me feeling that I have consumed very good quality, freshly prepared, tasty food.

Nice little pub in a handy location. Food is good and lots of screens for sports events with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Just off the Main tourist route The Exchange is a good local pub serving good beer and good honest food at reasonable prices.It is used by a lot of the Hampshire Council Employees at lunch times and can get busy and crowded.But if you want a true pub then you wont go far wrong here

I've tried more than my share of burgers in pubs in Winchester and this wins every time.The portions are generous, the slur is good & the taste is better.The pub as a whole is good as well. A nice decked beer garden for sunny days with TVs to watch the sport on, both indoors & out.Not the cheapest when it comes to drinks, but horribly overpriced.Worth a visit if u like burgers, beer & sport!

Went with friends a few weeks back, Service was quick with huge portions, good price and great food, menu isn't huge but great stuff non the less. Beer garden was very pleasant in the sun.

This may seem a bit unfair as every time in the past I have been to The Exchange the atmosphere when there is a big live sporting match has been excellent and the quality of the drinks has also been good.I ordered a burger and chips plus a pint of cider. After quite a long wait for the food, the burger arrived in a large bun, but a tiny dwarf burger that looked lost in its casing. It was the size and shape of a weetabix, only slightly thicker. I tried to ask the barman whether this was the sum total of my burger but he looked disdainfully at me and told me he was busy. He got a barmaid to ask me if there was a problem and I said yes and pointed to my sorry looking piece of beef. "oh that's because it's homemade" came the deadpan reply, not particularly satisfying but I couldn't be bothered to argue the point, so it was time to leave my food and drink and go elsewhere. Next time I'll just stick with the drink. I wish I had taken a picture of the burger!

A must. Yes it's a pub, but a proper pub with pub food!Warm friendly service and great beer. Lovely sunny beer garden for the summer.Big televisions to watch the sport on. All premier league games shown plus rugby and cricket.
