What a beautiful hidden gem. If you’re looking for relaxation , you need to stay here. People are so friendly and very helpful. Rooms are not only comfortable, but stylish too. Delish breakfast with locally sourced products. Only fault was that the stay went too quickly. Thank you Carolyn and Cameron, you were the perfect hosts. Definitely be back .. if I could have rated it 10 stars I would. 4 very happy and chilled out guests 🙌

We stayed one night at this small B&B; in the centre of the small fishing village of Staithes. David, the host, was extremely welcoming and made us feel at home. One thing which was a touch misleading was the name of the place. A few year’s ago this was a restaurant, but is now only a pop-up restaurant open once a month. Perhaps it was my fault for not checking properly, but I was surprised. Breakfast was excellent. Getting down into their village to drop of bags is easy. Getting out and back to where the parking is less so, but once you get the hang of it,its fine. Just be prepared to do a bit of hill climbing.

Popped in during the weekend of the annual Staithes Arts festival with my daughter. The restaurant was full downstairs so we went up to the first floor and bagged a table next to the kitchen. For less than £7 I had a half portion of chowder and a half mackerel sandwich. Both were really tasty and highly recommended. The staff were very friendly and everything seemed to be well organised. There are also rooms as part of the B&B part of the business and this seems to be well worth a couple of nights stay too.Staithes looks to be really on the up. Bohemian and chic. If you haven't visited before I would recommend a visit with a must visit to Endeavour included in your itinerary.

It may look like a small teashop on Staithes main street but this is definitely a place I would visit again. It only seats about 20 people and the menu is relatively limited but the quality of the food is excellent. I would recommend the hot fresh mackerel fillets on bead with salad or the seafood sharing platter. The local bottled beers are also worth sampling. The service was very good and they were only to pleased to oblige people with special dietary requirements on the next table.

We booked for Sunday lunch via Facebook the week before. The restaurant is very small and quaint, relaxing background music and cluttered walls which add to the charm. The food was something I would expect in Leeds City Centre, served beautifully with rich meaty gravy, well seasoned mash, side of varied vegetables and home cooked Yorkshire - I could eat it again just describing it.We both thoroughly enjoyed our tasty Roast beef lunch and finished it off with moist carrot & courgette cake and I had the best brownie ever, served with cream and raspberries. Booked for my birthday treat, The Endeavour is a cosy restaurant in beautiful Staithes. We visited on a Sunday so a Sunday roast was on offer, with a range of platters if a roast isn't what you fancy. Delicious meal with perfectly cooked beef, homemade Yorkshire pudding, fluffy roast potatoes and a selection of veg, freshly cooked and not a microwave in sight. Children's portions are ideal - they even cut up our youngest daughter's dinner so we could get on and eat ours: every parent's dream! Colouring competition for children too.Above all we were made to feel very welcome, our waitress couldn't do enough for us and she was very personable, chatting to our children and making us smile. Sure, there's picnics to be had on the beach, but let the team at the Endeavour look after you, you deserve it after the walk down to the village!

Difficulty booking via Internet and answerphone. So presented myself on morning of booking for Sunday lunch. Very small restaurant. Probably only 5 or 6 tables. Few little quirky touches. The waitress was lovely. Didn't get her name, but was sporting a tattoo in Gaelic of her grandmas name. She was a natural with children. Interesting local knowledge and enthusiasm for her village and the Endevour. The Sunday lunch was amongst the best I have ever had. The wine list wasn't extensive, but reasonable wine and inexpensive. Deserts were amazing. The bill was surprisingly low for the quality of food and service. Will be craving a return visit.

I.e Beef, but I like that they do one thing and do it well. The Endeavour gets generally good reviews but our visit in November 2014 was a rather mixed experience. My partner enjoyed her Welsh rarebit (well it's to be hoped so as she's Welsh!), I thought my mushrooms on toast was nice but overpriced for the portion size, whilst our little boy's home made fish fingers were really very dry and over cooked (I think the word is frazzled).I politely pointed out to the very pleasant waitress that my son's fish fingers were crispy to the point of being virtually inedible, but she seemed completely nonplussed by my positive criticism. Good coffee, although overpriced for the amount we were served. Our waitress was very pleasant and chatty too.It is a beautifully decorated restaurant - salt in half shells is a nice touch - also top marks for the cookery books and local travel guides which kept our son entertained during our lunch. We are intending to return to Staithes early in 2015 and will probably give The Endeavour another go - great potential but not fully realised when we visited this year. I'm looking forward to ordering other dishes from the menu as there were some deliciously intriguing items there. The Endeavour deserves another chance I think.

We are local and it's the second time we've eaten at the Endeavour since Vicki took it over at the beginning of November. Our first visit was just after they opened and and too early to make a fair judgement, but there were signs that given time things would rapidly improve. We've just had Sunday lunch there with friends and the consensus was it was faultless. The roast beef was pink and tender, the roast and cream potatoes perfect and the veg perfectly cooked. They didn't have the wine we chose but insisted we have an alternative that was £8 more expensive at no extra cost - more than fair.Locals and visitors alike, you won't regret a visit to the Endeavour.

We are local but have never been to The Endeavour Restaurant (in its early incarnation, the prices were off-putting!). Subsequently, it has been run by the owners of The Tea Room in Staithes (which we rate very highly) so we did plan to sample it, but our plans never materialised. When we discovered that the people from Whitby Sea Fish were taking over the establishment and, that family were visiting during the opening week, we decided to book a table for dinner. Additionally, we have sampled their coffee/hot chocolate and scones and have called in for lunch. On every occasion service was first-rate, the food delightful and the prices do not break the bank! The decor and atmosphere is very welcoming, fresh and has a sea-side theme as you would expect from its situation. I have ticked 'views' because, although we take it for granted somewhat, I am sure visitors would welcome the quaint views of the cobbled street from the windows of the restaurant. After taking our order, we were presented with tasty home-made bread. As we are basically vegetarian but do eat fish on occasions, we all chose to have their version of 'fish and chips' which turned out to be a delicious construction of fried flat fish with lentils and well-dressed salad served on a wooden platter. With the owner's connections, needless to say the fish was full of flavour. The chips were chunky and perfectly cooked and served separately. Looking for an healthy option for dessert, after eating all our chips, we all chose the poached pears which were served with fresh cream (perhaps it would have been nice to have been able to have an alternative to cream?). The pears were slightly alcoholic and very delicious! The hot chocolate, coffee and scones we sampled one morning were equally of a high standard. The chocolate was strong, not too sweet and actually had real chocolate in the bottom of the cup. They have not got an espresso machine yet; but the cafetiere of coffee was a nicely rounded taste. The scone - always a good test of baking skills - were mouth watering. They had lovely crisp skins and melted in the mouth when bitten!Lunch was their version of "fish-finger butties". The fish was cut into fingers, coated with a wonderful crispy concoction and fried and then served on bread with a small pot of crunchy, slightly pickled concoction in creamy sauce - lovely! Very enjoyable indeed! However, personally, I would have preferred less fish (it was a very generous portion and I rarely eat fish) and perhaps a small salad garnish. They had a vegetarian shared platter (local cheeses, humus, pickles, chutneys and bread) which sounded tempting but we wanted something hot.The owners seems very "hands-on", have obviously employed an excellent chef and all staff are welcoming and accommodating.A brilliant addition to Staithes - we wish them well but sure they will thrive!

We booked two nights at the Endeavour several months ago after reading the Trip Advisor reviews. We were visiting Staithes so that my husband could relive a school trip from 45 years ago!The website says restaurant with rooms but when we came to book a table at the restaurant the owner, David emailed to say that he would pass on our request to the people that ran the restaurant as it was out of season. This was a bit confusing as the website looks as if it's all one (we later learnt why it isn't). We didn't hear anything back but no matter we knew we could find somewhere else. Two days before our arrival, David the owner told us to go to the Antique shop next door to collect our keys and we told him we'd be there just after 3pm.We duly arrived at 3.20pm, imagine our surprise to discover that the Antique shop was closed and there was no answer at the B&B. We had the main number but of course no mobile signal. Thank goodness it was a beautiful sunny day and wasn't cold. We hung around for about half an hour then another car turned up with two other couples, one couple had stayed before. They were really puzzled and by this time a lot of local people were asking us what the problem was and knew the person that should have been there to let us in. One guy went off to see what they could do.The other two couples were getting really angry and one lady went to the pub to try to ring David. When they got through the response wasn't what we had hoped for as it was 'I'm in Leeds, where's the lady that was supposed to be letting you in'.Luckily for us a lovely lady called Vicky, who is taking over the restaurant and the B&B from 1st November came and let us in. This was only possible because she happened to have a set of keys. She got us settled and left her mobile number and explained some of what was happening, that she taking it over. The lady that should have let us in had gone to Whitby had basically forgotten. We got a story that she had had to dash off to a friends whose mum was ill, but that's the thing with small village, EVERYONE talks. So we were told by someone who knew what had really happened that this lady had forgotten. Now, mistakes happen, we accept that but at no point was there a profound apology from David. He arrived later in the day knocking at our door and his first words were 'I'm David, I drive the community bus for the Brownies'!! And? Part way through there was a 'sorry about that' but it was poor.Good side is that the breakfasts were well cooked, the room had the most amazing view. We stayed in the room in the eaves and we have already told Vicky of the things that need changing. This room won't be suitable if you are really tall as the rooms slope a lot. Plus if you are over 5' 8" the bed won't be long enough. My husband is 6" and slept with his feet dangling out of the bed. The shower is really poor and the water potentially dangerously hot with no thermostat as it's a bath/shower fitment. Also some form of a gate needs fitting at the top of the stairs. You have to cross the top of the stairs to get to the bathroom, it's very narrow and has the potential for someone to fall down the stairs in the middle of the night. We have to say though that Staithes is absolutely beautiful and the people that live and work there are very friendly. We wish Vicky and her husband lots of luck with taking over and we know she will make a success of it as she's just that sort of person (plus they already have a successful business). We would be happy to go back with Vicky in charge but not David. There was no discount for our inconvenience, it was dismissed very quickly as if it wasn't important and all we wanted was an apology that was genuine.

We have just returned from a weekend in staithes where we discovered the Endeavour Restaurant. The menu was limited but what we had was excellent. We shared a starter of italian meats and this went very well with the selection of complimentary breads. Main course we chose pork lion ( a typing error that produced a few laughs) it was one of the best tasting pork dishes I have had. It was served with a cider sauce and fresh vegetables. For dessert again we shared after seeing the size of the portions we had a pear and almond tart with fresh cream. Everything was fresh homemade and delicious. A bottle of red wine to go with it. The service was good and friendly. We were in the restaurant for two hours with plenty of time between courses. If you want fast food go to the pubs if you want good food served at a relaxing pace then try the Endeavour. Its only open as a bistro on a Friday and Saturday night so I would recomend booking. If we ever return to Staithes I would definitely eat there again.

We called in late afternoon after a walk, just for "coffee and cake", however, it wasn't just coffee and cake......it was a generous portion of a wonderfully light Walnut and Apple cake, served warm with pouring cream, and a cafetiere of delicious coffee, enough for two cups each. Service was excellent, even though it was almost closing time, it's comfortable and relaxing decor inside adds to the view outside, and everywhere was spotlessly clean. We'll definitely be back, only wish they'd move it uphill LOL But it's well worth the climb! :-)

We went to the Endeavour over the Lifeboat weekend in Staithes. It was a last minute booking, the menu was sparse, no starters and only 3 main courses, but what we had was good wholesome food. The restaurant had just opened a few weeks ago so I suppose that maybe the reason for the rather sparse menu. We are sure it will do well as not everyone wants pub grub, so we wish them well and will definitely return. The restaurant itself is very nice and once you are inside it is hard to imagine you are in Staithes. Good luck with the new venture.

This tiny restaurant located near the old fishing harbour of Staithes village has a superb selection of freshly caught local fish dishes. The menu is limited but has enough choice to suit most tastes. We dined there with friends and found the food excellent and the staff delightful. All very reasonably priced too. I had the seafood starter, the fresh lobster and a gorgeous gooseberry fool. Highly recommended .

The last review is hard to understand. The service was excellent, and so was the house wine - refreshing, great value, a lovely complement to the lobster and other fish dishes. We wished we were hardier drinkers so that we could have had more! The menu is fine - half a dozen or so starters and desserts, with 8-9 mains - just right. Five of us, including three young fussy eaters, all ploughed through 3 courses, with a bill total of £100 (inc. wine). And one of the meals was a whole dressed lobster. The quality was excellent throughout. Highly recommended. There's nowhere in London where you would get that standard at that price; dream on.

Wouldn't recommend. Food fine but the service was appauling. Expensive for what it was as well. Begrudge paying London prices to have a paper tablecloth and warm wine.

I've just returned from a lovely evening at The Endeavour - my first visit but definitely not my last.First of all I'd definitely advise you to book if you're planning a visit. It's a very small restaurant and is only open from 6:30 - 9pm Thursday - Saturday. We went on a Thursday evening and it was busy when we arrived and full when we left.My party had mains and desserts, all of which were well cooked and flavoursome, especially the spiced lamb. I have to say that I thought the portions were a bit on the small side, and in hindsight I wish I'd ordered a starter - but I do have a rather healthy appetite! Although we didn't have wine, there was a good selection on offer and the pricing was fair.Overall, a lovely evening was had by all. Tasty food in a beautiful dining room, with very pleasant staff.

The food was good but limited, as a seaside location where is the lobster, crab, scallops etc? Portions small, three £2 coin size potatoes to accompany the cod loin? The menu was terrible. Mains were two cod dishes, pasta (on the coast?) it makes no sense. The pub down the street will serve fresh lobster if you give them notice. We required drinks but the staff were across the road talking to friends. If you're gonna pretend to be a restaurant you need a better menu and service.

Good welcome and very prompt service, super fresh food, reasonably priced. I had tasty seafood starter, wife had mackerel which she liked warm; fish pie for main with very tasty veg, wife had veg tagine and the piece-de-resistance for me was the brioche bread and butter pudding. Three specials not on the menu outside, all very tempting. Nice cold peroni rounded off a nice meal. We'll be back.

In addition to their long established and very successful business "The Tea Room" - popular with visitors and locals alike, mum and daughter team Angie and Lou have now taken over at the Endeavour.Re-branded the Endeavour Bistro, we've eaten there twice. It offers a unique combination of posh decor, great food and wine at a surprisingly reasonable price all combined with a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant compliments and shares premises with the excellent B and B run separately by David, making it a rather special restaurant with rooms but at a very reasonable price.

We went there to celebrate special occasion for us. Reception was great, the champagne went down a treat, good service at the table, and food came quite fast. For a started I had Assiette – Staithes’ Smoked Mackerel Pate which gave me plenty of trouble at night - maybe my stomach was too sensitive for this kind of food/or fish pate was not freshly made - don’t know. For main I had Tornados Rossini which was beautiful. Desert Crème Brulee - mouth watering. Anyway the atmosphere is very good; all tables were fully booked which is a good sign to the restaurant.

This was the antithesis of where we dined the previous night.Very friendly, the food and ambience was too class.Starting with a bouillabaisse soup (so fresh and tasty), it was followed by an exquisite lemon sole boned and rolled with prawns in a gorgeous sauce with a generous and perfectly cooked selection of a good variety of vegetables and potatoes. The prosecco was v reasonably priced and perhaps whilst some of the menu was expensive (most meat dishes were over £20), you could be assured all the food was fresh as once it was sold, it was taken off the menu. One last tip - ordering before you sit at your table seems a little impersonal and perhaps rushed. Surely would be better to allow guests to sit down first with a drink? But otherwise really excellent.

Booked in for our last night of the holiday, so we treated ourselves. What a treat It was, we both had the goats cheese starter, I had the lemon sole and my partner had rack of lamb, all mouth wateringly tasty, very well cooked, a chocolate truffle for him and pavlova for me for dessert, was just delicious. Highly recommend this smart little restaurant. Very friendly and efficient service.

We've just returned from a two week break in Staithes were we ate at the Endeavour twice. The food was excellent on both occasions. The owner/manager David was extremely welcoming, a particular concern for us as we had a 4month old child with us - not the norm for fine dining. David was adamant that wasn't an issue and made us feel extremely welcome... Admittedly the little chap slept through both meals and didn't cause a disturbance. The observations we have are primarily around service/price. We spent over £100 for each meal, for two. Admittedly we had three courses, coffee and decent wine but at that kind of price I'd not expect to feel rushed which is something with hindsight we did feel.Compared to other restaurants at that price point I'd say it misses the mark for that reason. But it's still very good.

We ate in this restaurant at the weekend. It was a lovely atmosphere , we had drinks in the small bar chatting. We were shown our table when starters were ready . We ate goats cheese & bouillabaisse , both were delicious . Next we ate salmon & sole which was amazing , other half had steak which he enjoyed too. The veggies were cooked perfectly & the diphinnoise potatoe was divine.Wine is reasonably priced . We will defiantly visit again. We were too full for desserts. Would I recommend to friends & family ? Already done :)

We visited Staithes for the first time for the art festival in September. Saw the menu outside at lunchtime and called in to see if we could get a table for the evening and luckily there had been a cancellation so we were in! The service was top notch - the owner/manager chap in the hallway was very friendly and knew his stuff about the food and the girls serving were nice and smiley. The dining room we were in had some great mirrors on the wall, and the tables weren't too close together. The food was excellent - no overcooked vegetables here! - and although not cheap, felt about right for the quality of the food. Service wasn't rushed - they could easily have pushed us out to get the table filled again if they had wanted to, but you get the feeling that these people care about the food and people having a good time. Would definitely visit again.

Last weekend we went and had:Steak £19Mushroom stroganoff £17Aubergine Gratin £16/17Pasta Napolitana £17There was something wrong with everything. For the price of it we expected the Napolitana to be something special, but it was made with what appeared to be poorly cooked dried pasta. The dish couldn't have cost more than £1.50 to throw together and was priced a whole pound more than the pork belly. The owner informed us that he "doesn't know much about pasta." Probably best that you don't own a restaurant if you can't distinguish between dried and fresh pasta. And really best not to put a 10x mark up if you're not a michelin star chef. The medium/rare steak came cooked through and had to be sent back. Not a 'sorry' from the waitress but a 'thank you'. Second time was still a bit tough but passable. Didn't get any discount on this in spite of having to eat my meal after everyone else had finished. The gratin came without gratin. Literally no crust whatsoever. Aubergine and sauce. The mushroom stroganoff was priced the same as the beef stroganoff and came with four halved white mushrooms. It was the kind of dish you'd be pleased to see in a pub in the early 90s. How it cost £17 is beyond me. It came swimming in sauce which I don't believe a proper stroganoff should be. Plate of sauce, four supermarket mushrooms and a small circle of rice... £17.For what it was it was incredibly overpriced and was honestly one of the worst meals I can remember eating. We explained some of what was wrong to the owner but he didn't seem interested beyond nodding and taking the pasta off the bill. There was a lot of talk about a french chef who clearly wasn't in the kitchen, and it was he who decreed that beef and mushrooms cost the same price and that dried pasta and tomatoes are more expensive than pork belly. The pricing was all over the place. Cheap ingredients and high mark ups clearly indicating that they're more interested in making a fast buck than providing a good service. It was utterly insulting. This is the first restaurant that I have been to where I could have had a better crack at every one of the dishes myself at a fraction of the cost. It is also one of the first restaurants where we were seemingly expected to place our orders immediately after sitting down. When you pay £100 for 3 starters and 4 mains you don't expect to be rushed in this way. The interior and the beer were nice, as was the goats cheese starter. Although I'm not as sure about the vanilla/goats cheese combo as some maybe. We left feeling a bit conned having spent a lot of money on really sub-standard food. Taking the pasta off the bill would have amounted to a real-world loss of under £2 and was not suitable recompense for such a disappointing evening.

The Endeavour in a previous incarnation, with the marvellous chef Lisa, was my favourite place in the world to eat, so although I was delighted to hear it had reopened, I was aware that I ought to be trying to manage my expectations. Lovely environment, coolly stylish with big mirrors and the owner was very friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. We had a drink and placed our order sitting on a pew in the tiny bar/entrance, then were escorted to our table when the starter arrived. I would have liked a few moments to settle down, and maybe some complimentary bread, but I see what they did.The food (apparently an Italian chef, who, our host told us numerous times, makes his own tomato sauce for the pasta - would anyone expect him to have used a jar??) was good. Not amazing, but good. Fresh local fish in the main. The desserts were the weakest part of the meal, so probably better to choose a starter. I had a trio of smoked trout, smoked mackerel pate and salmon ceviche, which was lovely. The wine was reasonably priced and good too. I will probably return - it's the best place to eat in the evening nearby and the ambiance was lovely, we had a great night - but it's not as good as Lisa's Endeavour.

Spent a lovely couple of hours in this bar when we came into Scarborough to watch the Derby match. The place was clean, the choice of ales and especially ciders was fab. The staff were lovely and friendly. I don’t write reviews of pubs, but this is definitely one I’d seek out. Bonus points for no children allowed in.
