I ordered from here last night and was pleasantly surprised by generous portions, fast delivery and delicious food after bad experiences with other local takeaways. I definitely recommend ordering from them, especially the shredded chilli chicken which was absolutely irresistible! Note: Atmosphere is rated a neutral 3/5 as I didn't actually dine in and can't say either way.

First time and last time. Im sorry to say this was the worst chinese we have ever had. Tasteless, cold and were sent (we had a take away) the wrong food! Never again and would never recommend.

IMO best Chinese food in East Grinstead, have been ordered from the New Emperor since we moved into town 3 years ago. Dim Sum particularly recommended.

Normally very good food here we order what we know we like and my wife can eat but this time we must have had a different chef as the battered chicken for lemon chicken looked very dark and had been cooked in the same pan as something else as it had a taste like soy sauce on it which meant my wife couldn't eat it

Really disappointed , king prawn curry was tasteless , chicken balls dry and all sauces runny with no flavour . Save your money and avoid !!!!

Vietnamese spring rolls were great. Very tasty and not greasy. Loved my Spare Ribs.. Very Moorish Chown Mein was great. Value for Money I will come back for sure. Liked the fact that I could have a drink whilst I waited for my Chinese. Who needs delivery services!

Really looking forward to beef in black been on crispy noodles as its my favourite dish, unfortunately the noodles were soft chow main noodles. The fish cakes were rather small but i got plenty of them, though the heat made the lettuce turn brown so probably not best presentation. Can't go wrong with chicken satay. All tasted good and very fast service.

Disappointed to say the least order beef in black bean sauce, egg fried rice, spicy Thai chicken wings and it was utterly tasteless and the rice was mushy wouldn’t recommend and will be avoiding in the future a ready meal would of had more flavour

Best Chinese in east Grinstead for takeaway … just wish they’d do something with the restaurant so it could be appealing to eat in. If you ever do eat in you are the only ones in there, there’s no background music and it fells as though the restaurant is closed down, not a welcoming environment at all. Please invest some love into your restaurant, we would love to come in on a regular basis and I know loads others that agree, we live just round the corner. You’re missing a huge trick here!!!

Nice food, take out only at the moment. Online or phone ordering very efficient with fast times for collection. I feel this place, which used to be the best local Chinese, went through a spell when food wasn't so good, but what they are doing now is very good, large portions and very tasty.

Ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Pork Dim Sum here tonight and whilst it was edible, I feel that the price charged for the Pork Dim Sum was too high. It was well over £4 for 4 small pieces of Dim Sum and the Chicken Pad Thai had no peanuts (or any nuts whatsoever on it) and it was quite tasteless. Was rather disappointed.

We have eaten food from here many times and it is by far the best food and best service we have ever had.....and we have eaten from MANY Chinese takeaways!! The delivery service is quick and efficient, the food is superb and the staff always polite and attentive.

I feel sick! My stomach hurts from the food I had to stomach. I’m Extremely disappointed with the quality of food my family have had to eat. Oily, greasy and dry. The lemon chicken had little to no lemon and was crisp thin. I’m never coming back here again. The food is inedible

This really was not a great experience. For example the chow main was egg noodles with a chicken stock and chicken and veg dumped on top, no Chinese flavor. No dish was satisfying unfortunately..

I brought food from here last week and an hour after eating it, I got really unwell. My GP confirmed its food poisoning and I'm now on my eighth day of being very ill. AVOID.

Stopped in here for takeaway. Had Kung Po chicken and plain Chow Mein. Unfortunately quality of the food wasn't good. Completely dry and tasteless noodles, chicken was awfull. The quality of the battered chicken unacceptable. Sorry but I didn't enjoy my food at all.

Stopped for a quick bite after a long drive. Food was hot and pretty good. Only tried the chicken chow mein and chicken balls as they didn't have any pork balls. Therefore can't say much more.

The beef and duck dishes the meat was tough, starter okay, soft shell crabs 🦀 not the best will try again to see if there's improvement I believe in giving a second chance.

Arrived for a training course in the pandemic and instead of the hotel food I thought I'd try The Emporer. I ordered a chicken chow mein and it was greasy and flavourless. It had minimal amount of chicken in it and I personally thought it may have been my taste buds on the day. How wrong I was. The next week, back on training I decided to order a vegetable Sweet and Sour. It was runny and flavourless. I will not go back. I feel they have lost their desire for cooking.

Says they are open for lunch but never answer the phone. Either change your opening hours or answer the phone!

I have given this restaurant three opportunities to deliver. The overall rating of 49/54 restaurants speaks volumes. The food is bland, flavourless stodge. It's greasy and certainly seems to lack any fresh ingredients that have been cooked to order of indeed the same day and are most likely reheated for days on end. On the latest occasion, we ordered the food it gave both of us a case of diarrhoea. Unfortunately, East Grinstead lacks a quality Chinese Takeaway, so the bar is set very low.

Very good delivery service with excellent food. We used to use another local Chinese takeaway but have since found this one to be much nicer, not “gloopy” and very tasty. We only switched when the other failed to answer the phone - a lucky change!

Really good food /so worth the money

We use this restaurant for our Chinese meals from time to time. This Sunday asking for delivery, which took 45mins, this was ok as we were in no rush, and we did order at a peak time. The meal arrived piping hot and I must say the food was the best we had from here. Keep up your high standards Emporer 👍

Ordered takeaway told 45 minutes arrived in 5 minutes was not even home,arrived home to find delivered to family member in house who did not even know had been ordered! Absolutely ruined surprise evening when called to complain was told he didn't hear he actually told me 45 minutes when ordered x what a lack of customer care and couldn't care less no apology will not be using again beware call handler unable to tell Time!!!

Me and my boyfriend came and he’s allergic to gluten they were amazing with the food that he could eat. it came super fast and the staff were so friendly! Definitely recommend to families or couples!!!

I recently ordered a take away from here after avoiding the place for years because of a bad experience. This place is now excellent. The food I had was perfect and was ready extremely fast. Good value for money and the portion sizes were massive. Definitely recommend it.

We real like yours dumplings, taste is fabulous. But....price is crazy,near £1 per dumpling! If you change your price list or quantity,let me know.

Fantastic food and excellent service

Hadn’t been out for a Chinese meal for years and so we booked a table with some friends over Christmas period. It was a Monday night so quiet but we were very welcomed and I was happy to discover a variety of interesting vegan choices on the menu other than stir fried veg. In the end we opted for veg spring rolls, sweet and sour vegetarian pork?! which the waiter quickly advised were actually battered mushrooms, (sounded a bit odd but when they arrived they were satisfyingly chewy and in a delicious sauce), crispy salt and pepper tofu with cashews added, a melt in your mouth aubergine side dish and pad Thai noodles. It was full of flavour, great textures and we scoffed the lot. My omnivore friends were equally as impressed with their dishes. Lovely dinner! Left feeling warm, stuffed and merry.

Chinese food varies according to region so this menu will suit some and not others. Personally, we enjoy the dishes and get a take-away roughly once a month. We've never had a bad experience to date.

Waited hours for food, not brilliant.

An American friend and I had a very good meal here. After reading an earlier review I chose sliced duck in plum sauce - delicious. And just the right amount of rice to go with it. My friend had a complicated vegetable dish with bean sprouts and noodles, which she said was also delicious. The food was hot, fresh, and served by a very cheerful and welcoming waitress. We were there early in the evening, and were the only customers, although two people came in for take-aways. Having lived a few hundred yards away from this restaurant for twelve years, this was my first visit - it won't be my last!

Not busy for a Saturday lunch time typical Chinese restaurant in decor tasty takeaway and friendly staff a bit on the expensive side though and they will deliver in the evenings

I don't normally leave reviews but felt I had to for this. This was the worst Chinese I've ever had. The chicken had no flavour and tasted like rubber, the noodles were already going stiff they had been left out so long (as if you left them out for a day to dry out) the beef was also flavourless and still cold in luke warm sauce so it must have been frozen before and reheated. The fact my order came within 15minutes would have been great if it wasn't another reason to show its just reheated frozen food. Will never get this again and recommend eating your kids toy playdo food. It may have more flavour.

Food was nice but the English staff member was rude and abrasive. Which is a shame due to the Asian owners being very friendly and warm.

Visited here with family. We haven’t been to this restaurant for years after a couple of bad meals but thought we’d try it again this evening.The food was good and the service was very attentive. We had a lovely waitress with a good sense of humour. It was a shame that the restaurant was so quiet but we will definitely be returning for another meal.

I have not eaten in this restaurant for a while but we have got the takeaway option recently a few times. Both the Chines and thr Thai food is really good - and delivered to your door ! I asked for it without water chestnuts and bamboo shoots and it can as requested ! Freshly cooked - the satay chicken is really good !

Excellent oriental food served well. Also the variety is good and it is actually delicious. Definitely above average for this type of restaurants.

It's a pity they anglocised the chinese food so much into an identity crisis. They should instead introduce more subtle flavours and chinese styles authentically. Be bold and confident to introduce true chinese cuisine.

Can’t understand where the bad reviews have come from. Visited as a party of 5, ordering from the buffet menu. The food was superb, reasonably priced, and we couldn’t have been looked after better by the owner. Would definitely visit again if I was in the area.

This restaurant used to be excellent. Hadn’t been there for a while and found it is now the New Emperor. What’s new about it? The quality of the food has plummeted, the service was appalling and it was overpriced. Dont waste your money.

This food was bad that even my dog turnt it's nose up at it. Now that is saying something. The only reason it's got a 1* is so that I could leave this review.

Fast delivery, good food, large portions, reasonable prices. We have sweet and sour chicken balls, special fried rice, XL chicken satay, egg fried rice (no peas) and chips. All good quality. Would recommend and definitely will use again.

Had a very enjoyable meal. The staff were very accommodating to our needs. We had the set menu for 3 but did not want one of the items so they allowed us to swap with an alternate dish.

Easy to order over the phone and pay. The food arrived earlier than expected, it was piping hot and delicious! Perfect!

Curry is disgusting. Avoid at all costs. Worst Chinese ever

Luckily I am not allergic to sea food, but I choose not to eat it. Ordered vegetable spring rolls and discovered 1/2 way through that there was prawns and pork in there. This is so far beyond acceptable. The presence of sea food makes this a very serious issue.

The worst! The chicken was unrecognisable and weirdly rubbery, noodles were totally dry with no hint of flavour and the prawn toast was just greasy fried bread. Not even the tiniest of prawn there. This place used to be good (years ago) so this was a big disappointment. Really, truly awful. Avoid!

Terrible food! Came d d terribly 15min ordering and chicken looked weird I took a break and was frozen I couldn't believe it stredded stuff was saulty and dry. I rang told them and told them I want there driver to come back with my money and collect there food ten mins later he did come back and I handed the food he handed the money

What an expensive disappointment. The beef was chewy and fatty and the chicken was raw. Called back to complain and the man argued that the chicken should be pink..... what???!!! It was pink and raw right in the middle. They reluctantly sent another portion of the two chicken dishes and they were again raw. They went in the bin. I’m feeling quite rough after what I ate and would NOT recommend this place.

The food turned up a literal 12 minutes after we ordered the delivery, worringly quick. The chicken on all three chicken dishes was like a translucent jelly you'd struggle to identify as chicken. The crispy beef has only the tiniest traces of beef in it easily the lowest meat content of any such dish I've ever had. The rice was like astroturf. We threw almost all of the meal away. All in all the worst Chinese we've had in East Grinstead, or anywhere else. Never again.

We have eaten in and had the takeaways and have not been dissapointed, hot and good size portions, complementary offer of prawn crackers a nice touch.

I have been using this Emperor chinese for 17 years and I'm yet to have a bad meal, don't understand any of these negative reviews as an owner of a guest house I highly recommend this resturant to all my guests and have never received any bad comments from my guests.

Carne de mi carne curry rojo tailandés independientes pero de lo contrario no tenía parecido con el plato de ser ni rojo ni un curry, pero carne de jengibre con Verduras chinas. Pad thai de mi amigo era igual de instrumentalizaciones externas y su plato de calamar sabía asqueroso. La mujer que nos atendió fue amable y cortés, pero la comida es horrible. Was advised Sunday was a Buffet offering! Starters arrived, small over-cooked and tasteless! When asked to re-order some different starters to try to see what the other selections were like we were advised you cannot order more starters - Apparently you can only order more of the main course with the precursor of if you have been a good boy and eaten all your courses first!! Onto the next course, the duck course! The crispy shredded duck was "ok" however for some reason it was quite salty though??! Onto the main course, I ordered the crispy beef as this restaurant seems to be ok at deep frying, it was ok but I decided to leave 1/2 to 3/4 as I wasn't enjoying it. My partner ordered the Lemon Chicken and she could only manage a few pieces. I can now see why the option they give is to re-order mains - who in the right mind would want to!! I would say a 1 star rating is generous however on reflection it is probably fair. To say it was all bad is a tad unfair however I have never been to a Buffett where you cannot order more food! I would like to recommend to the other reviewers that have been complimentary of this restaurant to go and try somewhere of a better standard as unless they work for the restaurant or something was drastically wrong on this occasion it's a shame they haven't experienced food of decent quality. If you advertise a buffet, a buffet is what should be on offer and to aid support for a local business some free advice would be to focus on quality even if it costs the customers lightly more!

También he tenido muchas comidas a lo largo de los años gran cantidad de diferentes tipos de restaurantes no, pero ir tan lejos como para llevar este puede haber sido el peor que he tenido. No importa si ha habido algún tipo de sabor de comida, sabores artificiales horrible con todos los platos, no hay excusa que podría golpear algo parecido a un plato chino de lo que tengo en mi armarios y ser 10 veces mejor, ¿a qué estás jugando? Sin duda no volveremos! Pobre pobre. . .

just ordered a takeaway from here and the chicken balls where raw when I rung up about this the man on the food tried telling me that pink chicken was okay to eat. As I am a chef my self pink chicken can make you very ill however he didn't care until I had said that this could shut his business if poeple found out.

Best Chinese in East Grinstead, hands down

Tuve tome un al emperador una vez antes de un número de años y estaba bien. No es nuestra costumbre llevar pero decidimos intentarlo de nuevo porque era el único que estaba abierto lo suficientemente temprano en este día concreto. Siento decir que eran terriblemente decepcionado con la calidad de la comida, de hecho fue casi incomible. Echamos en la papelera. Había algunas cosas en el curry en polvo fideos singapur, como si no se ha mezclado correctamente. La salsa dulce y amarga era horroroso, nunca había probado una salsa dulce y agria como en mi vida! ! Quizás el chef estaba teniendo un mal día o tenían un chef alivio en, pero me temo que nos ha puesto fuera para el bien. Nunca más.

Nos repetirá después de un intervalo de varios años, ya que solía vivir en la zona y fue nuestro restaurante favorito. El restaurante tiene puede acceder a la parte trasera de la zona de comedor y hay sólo unas pocas cabinas y mesas para comer en. La decoración es la misma y se ha convertido en algo anticuado y no es realmente el ambiente.
