New Evergreen in Mid Sussex

Very frustrating experience. I had a very busy day, and didn’t really eat anything, I started feeling sick and tired so I ordered food from this place. First of all, I put the wrong address in which was my mistake and I feel stupid about it but i thought they would call me and I will just go outside and meet the delivery person. That did not happen… right now on the app it shows that my food was delivered at 23:40 however they notified me only at 23:56. And of course the food was already eaten by the neighbors. No reliability and trust in this place ever again. They should have called me !

Turned up half an hour later than time Requested with no apology. The sweet and sour sauce had leaked all in the bag making everything sticky. The chicken balls were really stodgy and chewy. Just rubbish quality and the portions are small!

We thought we would try another Chinese take away this evening which turned out to be a mistake ! The food was poor quality and the chicken chow resembled a congealed brick and nothing like we had eaten before and quite frankly was inedible. With the price of food being what it is I am more than dissatisfied with the fact that half of the meal went into the bin…. So we must vote with our feet and sorry to say that we will not use New Evergreen again.

Have ordered food from here before several months and good quality. However tonight has been at the extreme spectrum. Portions have been halved, meal’s incredibly dry with no flavour and running in oil. Rang up to discuss and was greeted by “don’t you know prices have gone up” with no acknowledgment of quality of food. I’ve never left a negative review of a restaurant or takeaway before but felt obliged to share with customers. I hope they improve both food and service as local companies are the heart of a community

Have used them for years but just had the worst takeaway from them and won’t be going back. Kung pow chilli prawns were a mess and had no flavour other than chewy batter. Chicken balls batter were soft and the chicken hard. Only thing that was good was the chow mein. If you pay 42 for three people and six dishes I expect much better.

Takeaway as no seating anymore. Crispy dramatic duck was soggy, fat not rendered out. Special fried rice dry and lacking anything special. Tepid in temperature. Will not be going again

Really disappointed. We don't have many Chinese takeaways in East Grinstead and tonight's takeaway was awful. Greasy, chewy meet, bland, cold. I never leave reviews but please take this as constructive and fix this.

Asked for ribs, got loads of boney knuckles no meat on them, try to get my money back from them though live chat, they kicked me off because I said I was going to report them, as I sent them photos of the so called ribs, do not buy ribs from there.the photo is supposed to be pork ribs.

We will never use them again! We turned up at 7pm which was when the order was supposed to be ready. We then proceeded to wait another 20 minutes. When we got home much to our surprise multiple dishes were missing. We then called and they told us the food we ordered was not on the menu (it was). My grandfather then called and was called a liar. We then added up the order and as we thought we were missing dishes and had been charged for them. We only wanted an apology not a refund! Do not order from here!

Delivery arrived bang on time. Food was delicious. Ordered Set meal B for three people, which was more than enough for 4 hungry people and left overs for lunch tomorrow. We eat the meal backwards!, starting with the main course dishes , then the Aromatic Duck, then the Mixed Appetisers, that way you don't fill yourself up on the appetisers!

Food was uneatable! Service was rude! Order was wrong! And we did not get what we ordered! Never will order again, We called them to tell them about the food and we got a awful respond😡

The consistency has been great that we always recommend this place to friends and family and they have loved it too.

I have been using New Evergreen since the late 1990s and it has always been superb !! Good value speedy delivery and fantastic food !!

This was our first time Takeaway Delivery from this place and quality and flavour was fantastic. Had set Menu B for 2 which was plenty for us. Aromatic Duck Moist and delicious, sometimes can be overcooked and dry but not from evergreen. Also main dishes not swimming in grease as can be the case from other establishments. This Takeaway was the best Chinese we've had since living in this area, and we've definitely tried them all within a 10 mile radius. Also impressed they deliver to South Godstone. Thank you Evergreen for restoring my faith in Chinese Takeaway 🙏

No longer offers the option to dine in despite the all-eat app saying you can which resulted in a wasted journey. Just found out they have a food hygiene rating of one so probably had a lucky escape.

Worst Chinese I’ve ever had, dry chicken, duck pancakes - no sauce, mixed my dishes up to limit the packaging, noodles tasted like they had been scraped from the bottom of the wok. Yuk! Don’t recommend.

Got a takeaway and it was very delicious food. Chicken was super fresh, everything tasted lovely and was piping hot! Spring rolls are the best I’ve had in the UK in a while. Food was ready in such good time. Would highly recommend a Chinese from here, we were sceptical given some of the reviews but couldn’t have been a nicer meal!

Ordered from here many times and generally a passable takeaway. However, our most recent experience was dreadful. Prawn crackers at £1.80 which were literally like eating stale, dry cardboard. They had no prawn flavour, just horrid old oil flavour. Inedible. If you are going to charge for them, make them edible at least! Szechuan Beef was saltier than the Dead Sea, again an overwhelming taste of old cooking oil. Kung Po chicken again, salty as hell. The whole meal was a waste of time, money and chewing. Will not return!

Waste of time ordering from here, waited an hour and 45mins after being told by the very rude lady on the phone that our order was out for delivery only to find it hadn't even been cooked yet. Avoid at all costs!!

Used to be a very regular customer of this takeaway and was so excited to be staying back in the area and within their delivery zone having missed their delicious food …. Delivery took about an hour, which was ok! Food was warm. Duck was ok, didn’t receive extra pancakes we ordered but hey ho, main course we ate about half due to being hungry rather than greedy - noodles dry and craggy and chicken a bit tough and chewy and the other dishes were average. Quite disappointed ☹️ as was looking forward to outstanding and received mediocre.

This is by far the worst takeaway in Eastgrinsted they forget items that you have ordered and offer you a 10% discount they sent me food that was overcooked and dry arange for the delivery driver to come collect the food and he never shows up then after repeatedly being fobed off by the lady on the phone i take the food back to the new evergreen fot the owner to come out of the kitchen shouting in Chinese and in english telling me i have eaten half of the food this is by far the worst restaurant in the town i would strongly suggest that anyone thinking of placing an order here not to. Even the one star is more then this place deserves

Wouldn't even give this place 1 star customer service is an absolute joke women on phone has no manners cook thinks its OK to shout at customers and the food isn't even edible definitely avoid and use one of the many other local Chinese places

Been ordering take-away from here for about 15 years and think it’s the best around having tried all in the East Grinstead and surrounding areas. Crispy beef and noodles with beansprouts are my favourites. Would give a slightly lower score as a restaurant though because the decor is pretty dated.

this was our first and last time using this takeaway. seaweed was full of sugar grains shredded chicken was the same satay chicken rubbery and very orange chicken and blackbean tasteless. rice dry mixed meat chowmein tasteless crispy shredded beef with chilli rubbery and bland All food was nasty

Waited 90 minutes for the food so called them to check where it was. They apologized for the delay but our order has left the kitchen and will be delivered soon. Fair enough, these things happen. 20 minutes later still no food so called back. They said they'd call the driver and find out where they are and get back to me. 10 minutes later still no food and no call from Evergreen, so chased again, 2 hours after order. They said it hadn't been cooked...and they'll start it now. OK, mistakes happen. But what's really annoying is they didn't check when I first chased, didn't call me back to admit their mistake. And to make matters worse, they offered me a 10% discount on my NEXT order!!! Evergreen? More like Nevergreen. Avoid.

What an experience, we ordered a I'm takeaway menu at about 17:00hrs and unfortunately it was delivered minus the Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls. We called to inform them of their mistake and was told that they would deliver it. At about 18:50hrs we called them again and was told that they did not have the full ingredients for that dish. I asked for a refund and was told that next time I would receive the dish free that I had paid for. I asked for a refund now, I was told no! as they did not know how to facilitate the transaction. I was then informed I had received the dish and people recently were claiming to that they were not receiving the order thus suggesting I was a liar wait until nearly another two hours later to get my free £5.10p dish. New Evergreen you are a disgrace and I will never purchase off you Everagain, has a ring to it Never Everagain. Last words. "I am not a liar"

Very fast delivery and tasted good. Shame some of the order was missed. Offered to cook some fresh but with over half hour wait, it wasn’t an option, accepted refund instead.

Overpriced, greasy, watery sauces. Seasonal veg consisted of Pak Choi. Even the free prawn crackers didn’t make up for it.

DO NOT USE!!!!! 1 star is too much - wasn’t about to leave none! Delivery was half hour late, which meant it was all stone cold and inedible. The only way they would grant a refund was if the food was to be returned - was too late was already in the bin. Awful service - accuse customers of complaining for a refund, they need proof - apparently!! Well if you send a driver out to collect over an hour after you deliver it of course it will be even colder by then! Will NEVER use again! Waste of my money

The courier was unable to find the hotel's door opener. He couldn't deliver our food like that. I'm not allowed to leave my room.

When we got it delivered, there was one missing. The vegetarian noodle. My boyfriends eats meat so I couldn’t share his meat noodle. We told them over the phone that we were missing something. They said no we’re not, we’re wrong... following with OKAY BYE! But we wanted to order the missing food again, it was 10:25 and she said they were closed “no you can’t order k bye, bye now” Disgusted, do not recommend phoning if you have a problem!!

Currently working as takeaway only, the food when ordered is prepared quickly. Fairly standard Chinese food, but well cooked and tasty, good size portions.

I ordered from Evergreen to See what it was like because I went to their restaurant in the past. Firstly I was impressed by Ordering on the phone and paying by phone it was simple. However I found the delivery driver unprofessional. After he walked up some flight stairs He spoke crossly and said “not delivering again because there’s no access to the lift” and then left. However when I served up the dinner, my Husband gave some positive comments about the Peking duck. It was nice and crispy and there was just the right, amount of vegetables and plum sauce. The Chicken and sweet corn soup was pleasant but too sweet. Sweet and Sour Chicken balls. - Sauce: it was fluorescent pink/orange -Chicken: square -batter: not cooked properly. Beef in Black bean sauce -Beef was over cooked Chilli beef Same Singapore noodles There was too much spice in it. And the Rice was bland. Both were over cooked. Lastly the prawns in the sweet and sour sauce was like red traffic lights. Over all the Sweet dishes were too sweet Savoury dishes were too salty Singapore noodles too spicy, too Oily and too much food colouring or MSG. It was a over priced of what it was

They offer the best Chibese food in the area. Always fresh. Always bountiful. Always prompt.

Not bad, a bit lacking in subtlety, finesse and freshness. I think they put MSG in the food too...

The food here has always been nice. However this time i ordered but had to cancel it in the end as the lady on the phone was very rude who was shouting over the phone. Due to this rudeness they will be losing few customers.

Great Chinese food. Best in East Grinstead. Always polite and nice on the phone to me too. Amazing take away but even better when you eat in.

We have ordered take away for 2 years from this establishment. Normally good but tonight terriable. Food was massively delayed and when we caled to find out eta; the lady was rude and offhand. They have lost a loyal customer of several years...

After using another takeout in the area we decided to give here a shot. Food was amazing every time! Last week we got a takeout from here the food was very disappointing, I wasn’t able to eat the sweet and sour chicken balls as the batter was under cooked. The noodles were starchy and didn’t taste very nice and I ended up eating just rice and seaweed. The dogs enjoyed the chicken tho :) hoping it was a one off.

The women who pick up the phone was so rude, she’s shouting on me on the phone asking for my address is that the way you treat your customer over the phone? They need more training how to speak politely in ther customers. Im very disappointed!!!!

We have always had a great meal from New Evergreen but to treat a loyal customer like that is appalling...... To explain..... We ordered 1/2 Aromatic Crispy Duck and 1 Chicken Satay at 6.35 on Friday evening from local pub and was told it would be delivered in 45 minutes to my home At 6.50 I received a call on mobile from delivery guy outside complaining that we weren't there. we explained that we were told 45 minutes but asked if he could wait 10 minutes.. he said he couldn't and was quite rude. So we got back and waited. At 7.35 still nothing. Called the restaurant who said they would speak to the driver. Then go a call 20 minutes later to say they would cook me a new one. At 8.35 we got a call from someone else asking if we wanted a new one (now 2 hours after 1st order). Then 5 minutes later someone turned up with the original order . We explained that a new one was being prepared. 15 minutes later we received delivery. 2 HRS and 20 minutes after order. Would have thought we would should have received a call OR something off the bill- as a 20 year + customer. Settled down to eat it . Tasteless,overheated,dry and nasty smell. Called restaurant to complain -they just said , "sorry, we will deduct 10% off next order" . I was so angry I couldn't speak, just said "don't worry, thanks". I probably should complain to the FSA and may do yet.Clearly they are so busy and successful that they don't care about losing the odd customer. Well this customer is not odd and sadly not returning

Small place, understaffed. Very busy! Felt sorry for a certain staff member, she was run off her feet. People were walking out and people that ordered take aways were all delayed. But the food was lovely, waited 2 hour's for main meal.

We have often ordered our take away from this restaurant and once more ordered by a personal visit.Extremely busy on take away. People waiting and the telephone continually receiving orders. Highly rated Chinese restaurant. The food is top rate, as is the service. The decor is a bit dated and could do with a spruce up but I'm not there to admire the scenery. The things that really matter were 100%.

We have been looking for a good Pekinese Chinese restaurant that deliver and we finaly found one Every dish was tasty and hot, and it arrived on time. there were no really great dishes but the all had good flavour and were well cooked and NOT grease we will defiantly be ordering again soon

Delicious food! Ribs in yellow sauce are fantastic and have plenty of meat on the bone. Crispy shredded beef is soo tasty :D I never had lotus rice before but it is lovely! If you like green tea I highly reccomend it. Will definetly order again :3

Friend of the chef told the waitress, in front of me, that the chef was cutting off the lobsters legs etc without killing them first. He said they were wrything in agony.. disgraceful

We've been using the New Evergreen for takeaways for 22 years now and I can't remember ever having a bad experience. The staff are always polite and helpful-from the staff on the phone to the delivery drivers and the food is always really tasty!

Quite liked it. I used the takeaway but they also have a sit-in restaurant and I believe they deliver. Food was enjoyable and I'd eat there again and the pricing was actually unremarkable; it was fine, inexpensive but not cheap, if that makes any sense. Would go again I suppose. Much better than the one next door; New Jade Garden or something like that, don't go there.

They not only got my order wrong but refused to give a refund or reorder on my food even though I had allergy's which eneded In me throwing away the food. Worst Chinese food ever. DO NOT ORDER

Ordered a number 60, the order was confirmed and got a 160 instead, called to get it changed, said it would be, the order never arrived. Called up again to say where it was and they refused to send the order or give a refund, they repeated the same excuse blaming us for their mistake. Waited nearly an hour or the second order which never came, so the first order became cold. The receptionist on the phone was very unhelpful and rude.

Booked a table for five, and when we arrived at 1945, the place was very busy with take away customers collecting meals. we were initially the only people dining in. we were swiftly shown to our table by a friendly cheerful waitress, who immediately took our drinks order. The menus is quite wide, and as we all like to mix and match our dishes, we decided to order mixed starter for five. This consisted of a huge plate consisting of seaweed, prawn toast, spare ribs, crispy pancake rolls and chicken satay skewers. I have to be totally honest here. The ribs were probably the best I've ever tasted, and the crispy pancakes were well filled and had an incredible flavour. More than enough for our party. We decided that as well all like crispy duck pancakes, we ordered a whole crispy duck, which arrived promptly and was easily enough to satisfy our appetites. The only thing I would say was that the duck was just ever so slightly dry, but it didn't diminish our pleasure in any way. Extra pancakes were brought to our table as and when needed. Service is first class, and the toilets were spotless. Well Done New Evergreen. We will be back!

I went here over a dinner and it was bit of a mixed experience. The service, friendliness of the staff & the cleanliness of the dining area & toilets are up to standards. It seems like this place is popular takeaway / delivery restaurant, so you will frequently hear the noise of phone ringing and the voice of the person who is answering, which can be bit of annoying. Anyway, we ordered a special fried riced, soft fried noodles and crispy shredded chicken portion. The fried rice and the soft fried noodles is incredibly delicious but unfortunately the portion is way too small for that price. The shredded chicken seems to be overcooked and it doesnt taste chicken. But, it was still tasty. It seems like this restaurant has a very high price category for a such a small sized portions. I believe it is not really worth it. As soon as we got to the restaurant they asked whether we need prawn crackers and we said yes. Later we found out it wasn't complementary and that was in the bill. There are few other Chinese restaurants around this place and I will be trying them next time. Thank you.

We went early on a Friday night with the kids. Good food. Good service. There weren't many diners, but suspect it gets busier later.

We have been looking for a Chinese/Pekinese that deliver and finaly we found one all the dishes were good, Duck very good strong flavours throughout my only complaint was 45-60 minute delivery was actually 75 minutes plus!!!

Made an impulse to eat out on a Monday evening and choose New Evergreen. We were not disappointed. The service from both prompt and efficient. The food was well prepared and was delicious.

Dissatisfied customer, ordered takeaway which came to £67.40, received a call back to say that we would be charged £3 for delivery but the leaflet put through our door in Lingfield clearly stated orders over £15 would be free, it did not mention only free in East Grinstead. Food arrived, ordered sweet and sour king prawn balls but bag had mixture of sweet and sour chicken balls, the prawn balls we did, have were extremely salty, the pancakes to go with 1/2 crispy aromatic duck were falling apart as soon as you picked them up and the duck was very chewy. Overall a bad,expensive meal that was not enjoyed at all, safe to say will not be ordering from them again.

Oh sí, este restaurante está entre dos de mis restaurantes más populares, La Farola y el Gurkha y no han sido hasta la semana pasada cuando llamamos al Gurkha de comer, pero se informó que había una hora de espera (muy popular ahora, debe dejar de decir lo bueno que es) así que se interpolen como un par viejo de pensionistas que la decisión de probar bastante la nueva EverGreen.

Hemos vivido en East Grinstead durante más de diez años, pero es sólo recientemente que hemos comido aquí. No se ven maravillosos de fuera y está en la carretera de circunvalación. Sin embargo fue nuestra pérdida ya que en breve se mueva. Desde nuestra primera experiencia con una orden de entrega que nos ha impresionado, comida china que es buena en el REINO UNIDO encontramos muy difícil de encontrar. La mayoría son muy normal en el mejor. Desde la primera entrega que hemos comido en este restaurante varias veces y llevado familia allí. La comida es fresca, con un montón de sabor, bien presentado, no mucho. El servicio es excelente y la gente que trabaja en el restaurante es muy amable. Diría a cualquiera ir y comer allí

Hemos pedido muchos tome siempre del nuevo Evergreen y siempre me pareció excelente. Yo sólo he comido en el restaurante una vez con amigos y esto también era muy buena. 100% recomendable.

Pedimos a domicilio última noche y nos informaron que tardaría 45 minutos. Llegó a 25 minutos. Cada plato que pedimos estaba delicioso. Cortar una hendidura incluso en el contenedor de pollo crujientes para asegurarse de que no vaya suave. El pato crujiente con especias era...

Tuvimos una cena muy agradable aquí la semana pasada, estaba preocupado después de leer las críticas de aquí, pero al ser un lunes por la noche, prácticamente cualquier otro sitio estaba cerrado. Teníamos una camarera encantadora joven, y la comida y el servicio eran bastante buenos. Sin duda volveremos. . No dejes que las críticas negativas te desanime, ya que casi nos hicieron.
