China Brasserie in Mid Sussex

Bland tasteless and cold sums up my horrendous experience with their takeaway service. I had to wait for over an hour for it to be delivered

Another great meal at The China Brasserie. A busy Saturday evening but the service was superb, friendly and helpful, and the food even better. Well worth a visit.

This is a family run Chinese restaurant. Very friendly relaxed service and delicious food. We especially enjoyed the Singapore vermicelli noodles, the Kung Po chilli prawns and the crispy duck to start. Had a lovely family meal and I would highly recommend.

We had an amazing dinner in China Brasserie. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend the crispy duck pancakes! The service was very attentive and we had a very warm welcome. We had a poor experience here a few years ago and stopped going, but the current management have really turned it around.

I liked the decor though I felt the table cloth and napkins arrangement was quite old fashioned. The manager came across as slightly aggressive I felt and as expected in a Chinese restaurant, the service was very fast (too fast for my liking but that's just how it is). The food was tasty though I felt the portions were small. I guess that's why they give you free prawn crackers with a couple of dips ;) I would've preferred a dinner plate to put my food on though I guess the bowl is more authentic. All in all, I think food wise, this place has made big strides over the years and for that, it's to be commended.

We ordered a take away from there last week and it was great really tasty and fresh so we went to the restaurant Saturday night. Great Comfortable place, very friendly staff, excellent supply of cold Chinese beer. Meal was lovely, as we expected, all served well presented and quickly. My parents both enjoyed the meal and the had a great time with a few jokes from our hosts!

Rapid service, dinner arriving within ten minutes of us ordering, and we didn't go light. Food was tasty. Not massive portions, but just right in the end. Decor a little dated, but the restaurant business is hardly a money printer these days, so it's forgivable.

Perfect. Our first time was excellent. The staff worked together like a well oiled machine. Our starters and mains were delicious. We would love to return.

We have ordered a takeaway from here probably every two months for the last five years. Never had a bad meal, it’s always been very tasty and delivered hot. Would highly recommend.

Best Chinese in Haywards Heath, food is always to perfection and the service is amazing, so friendly!

Not a nice takeaway unfortunately. 1st time ordering here. My chicken chowmein had some kind of bone in. The sweet n sour sauce was runny and lacked flavour. The chow mein didn't have the usual flavour of chow mein. Prawn crackers were stale. Also quite expensive. Overall, I won't bother again.

We came for my Dad’s birthday and had a nice family meal. The restaurant was accommodating with a big group of us and the food still came out quickly. The young waiter was very welcoming and good humoured. Would definitely eat here again.

First visit here for a while - early Saturday supper with wife and son. Great service, really friendly staff and atmosphere. When (too!) heavy on starters, then duck. Food was amazing. It’s not cheap, but we ate very well.

Great friendly staff Excellent food

What a pleasant surprise to find this restaurant after a Google search, because we have been disappointed by recent visits to our usual takeaways in Uckfield and Lewes. The food at China Brasserie was really tasty, hot and prompt to arrive. It was well presented and generous. The service was friendly, but not overbearing. We will definitely be back.

Perfect food, service and quality of food. Genuinely came away happy to have spent the money I did. Suggestion please introduce a mixed item sharing starter. We will definitely be back.

We had a meal for four, staff amazingly attentive, the manager was friendly and respectful, the food was out of this world and the portion size was perfect. Staying in N Chailey, looking for a nearby takeaway. China Brasserie in Haywards Heath was 15 min away. Friendly service. Food was great, generous portions, with lots of veg.

I really like this place. It's a very good authentic Chinese.

Not as good as before, pricing seems to have gone up. £11 for 5 crab claws, £8 for 4 very small tasteless prawn spring rolls. Duck was good, we had fillet steak and a pork dish for mains both average.

The most wonderful food, very flexible adapting menu options. Great service from everyone. Food was delicious. Left feeling extremely satisfied. Warmest of welcomes. Recommend the prawn toast, best by far. Lamb in black bean delicious.

Wonderful family evening to celebrate my mums 88th birthday. Staff were so accommodating before we arrived as we were running late, were so helpful on arrival helping with her wheelchair. All of them were so friendly and to sing happy birthday! Food was fresh, tasty, good sized portions and very reasonably priced. Have to recommend. (Bathrooms deserve a comment as well - lovely!)

Great takeaway, best local Chinese restaurant. Food always on time, but more expensive than others locally but worth it

Three of us went for a meal on 7th March - we were the only people dining in. My friend and I asked for food heaters and were told that that they did not have any!!! We both had a strong recollection of them being used on previous visits. A Chinese restaurant without food heaters is unusual. The result? Lukewarm and rather unpleasant food. Lukewarm, fatty duck is not very pleasant. I doubt that we will be returning, which is a shame, as it used to be very good.

It's a 10/10 on food. When we lived in Haywards Heath, it was our local and we loved it so much. We emigrated to Australia and when we came back to visit, we took a day trip down to Haywards Heath from London specifically to go to China Brasserie. The previous owners were so friendly! They knew my parents well and would give them a complimentary bottle of wine on their wedding anniversary as they'd go there every year. When the newer owners took over, they were polite but didn't have that same warmth. The atmosphere lacks because as someone dining in, you almost feel as though you have to be quiet, like you're in a library. The staff are very polite though, great service and phenomenal food. I'd argue the best Chinese in the whole of the South of England.

As a group of 15, to avoid confusion about ordering we each put £20 into the kitty and left it to the Manager to provide a varied assortment of dishes. This proved to be an excellent idea and we were treated to a veritable banquet! The only comment from a couple of members was that there is no dessert.

Delicious food and excellent service. We thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we had. The presentation was also really nice. Nearby parking also helps.

We've had takeaway from here twice now, the first time we were very impressed, the food was some of the best Chinese we have ever had, especially the vegetarian meat dish which is incredible, and portion sizes were ample, as well as relatively quick wait time. This second time we ordered similar dishes and again we only had to wait ten minutes to pick up the food, which is great. My wife's noodle dish was really good and her portion was large, easily a good meal. My satay vegetarian meat dish was as delicious and moreish as the last one I had, very tasty! Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the tiny portion size, considering that my dish cost £7.50 (a pound more than the noodle dish) I expected to receive a 'main' rather than what looked like a side dish, the tub it came in was barely half full and it looked like little more than one spoonfull of sauce. The quantity of vege meat was not too bad, but the amount of sauce was laughable and there was no other veg in the dish to bulk it out. If I hadn't had a large rice portion and spring rolls and prawn crackers I would have been left hungry, which is not what you want. It is odd because we didn't have this portion size issue last time, and it puts me off buying similar dishes again if they are going to be stingey with them.

Service has always been great, both over the phone and in the restaurant. Food is really tasty, and good quality.

Home delivery. Being disabled and having a bad day I put on loudspeaker so my husband could check i had ordered right. I ordered four items, the man read back the four items (confirmed by my career) and it came to 25;50 which my husband commented that was cheap. Dinner arrived. One item short. I rang back and he just kept saying that he read the items back to me and I didn’t place the order. Building my confidence up with my social skills and this knocked me right back. Instead of being apologetic and trying to sort something with me. All I could imagine was another delivery fee and my food going cold. He was not very helpful at all. Not the normal phone person but a new one with a twang of an accent. Would have appreciated a sorry and work a way forward. If they do this then I would remove this review as the food is always tasty. The best Chinese food in HH however the receptionist did not go out of his way to assist the customer on her first attempt and confirmation from my career I did order correctly and the read back was correct however the price was not.

…..for a take-a-way booked an hour in advance. The food was actually excellent, the staff were friendly but a take-a-way booked and confirmed for 2045 was not ready until 2100. My time is simply too valuable, especially on a Saturday evening, to have it wasted by others, standing around in a restaurant. If they had told me 2100, I would have arrived at 2100. Poor.

Worst Chinese I've had in a very long time. They offered me £5.00l credit because they left a dish out. I won't be coming back to use it.

We visited China Brasserie as a couple last week and were really impressed by both the food and the service. You can tell when a business is run by people who care about doing a great job, and this is absolutely the case here. Their satay sauce is particularly good, and compared to many places in HH it's pretty affordable for a full meal. Also, and this might just be me, but I love a restaurant with a fish tank. In general I really like the way they decorated - we needed a relaxing evening and we got one.

Party of 6 for my son's 18th birthday. Service was very good, food nice and tasty. Only downside was small starter portions and a tad overpriced £6.50 for some seaweed I find quite high. Good quality food tho, will try for the next takeaway.

First time at China Brasserie for a while. Had forgotten how good it is. Starters were really tasty and well-prepared, the main was beautifully cooked and equally tasty. What a great restaurant.

Love coming here for a meal. Staff & owners are so nice, very friendly without being intrusive. Enjoy watching the Carp in the fish tank, no they're not part of the menu, adds to the ambience. Been coming for a few years now & never been disappointed with a meal. Prices very reasonable. Highly recommended

Portion sizes are very small compared to other Chinese Restaurants..... I had the oriental fillet steak..... there were about 8 small slices of steak, which was very tough ans chewy.....fillet it was not! Overall experience was it is expensive for what you get, and not value for money at all.

We had a take away this evening and whilst the curries and chow mien were satisfactory, the char sui Pork was extremely disapointing - it was very burnt and chewy and didn't have any flavour. Had to leave it and steal a bit of curry sauce! Will not be returning.

We only ever have the food delivered but it is always first class. It arrives quickly and is always really hot.

Quality has gone down significantly. Crispy wonton was literally just pastry tied into a knot...there is a very very small amount of filling. Curry was too watery. The shredded chilli beef was the only good thing from our order.

Best quality Chinese takeaway in Haywards Heath. Eating in is out right now (Cvd19) and the lights are a bit bright inside but the food is cooked to perfection, we don't go anywhere else now after trying them all.

Thought we would try somewhere different. Cant fault the phone service or the delivery man, delivery man very happy and friendly. However we found the main dishes very greasy and watery and lacking in flavour. The chicken curry just tasted of gravy. On the plus side the crispy duck was delicious but probably wont use again.

We just had a very yummy and hot (temperature) chinese from here. 1st time having a takeaway but have eaten in, in the past. Very tasty and not greasy. Speedy delivery and friendly delivery guy. Been using China Brasserie for many years and most of the time the food is good (take away).

Like the last review, I’ve eaten here for years and enjoyed the food but somethings changed. Food is poor and when I called the manager tells me it’s always been that way and I’ve ordered the wrong thing. Shame to see this place drop in standards, I won’t be back. I suspect new ownership but they wouldn’t tell me that

Have been a regular eat in customer at this restaurant for many years and always found the food to be high quality and the staff friendly and efficient. Was there last night and what a difference, so disappointing. We felt rushed, the starter order was wrong when it arrived, staff tried to clear our table while we were still eating. Overall feeling of being in the way such a shame won’t be returning

Friendly staff but absolutely awful food!! Prawn crackers and Sweet & sour chicken were the only ok dishes. Char siu, beef with ginger&spring onion and veg in garlic were inedible.. Maybe my standards are too high as I’m used to eating Chinese food in Chinatown.

I used to order from a different Chinese in Haywards Heath but decided to try this one again. We have since ordered from here around 3 times, and no word of a lie, our food has been delivered in 10 minutes tops.If you want quick delivery and yummy food (with free prawn Crackers), I do recommend :)I don't normally write reviews but today our food arrived in 8 minutes and that is pretty impressive!

This place has gone down hill over the last 3-4 years. It is often busy but needs to re-find its excellence.

The chow mein was very appetising.

My husband, daughter and I ate here recently. The food was quite good-crispy seaweed, crispy duck with pancakes, three chicken mains and two different rice. Service was straightforward but monosyllabic. If you don't like waiters fussing over you every few minutes, enquiring if everything is all right, you'd enjoy it here! The only words spoken were a warning about how hot the plates were and an enquiry about whether we wanted more drinks. Not surly, but not welcoming either. I can understand why some reviews are negative, but we thought it was ok without being at all exciting or special. For a straightforward meal, fine, but if you're looking to celebrate or for more of a dining experience, probably best to go elsewhere.

Went for dinner with family including my wheel chair bound mum. The place was like a furnace and were all sweating. There were two fans - one small fan with no air flowing from it which was two tables away from us and an industrial fan which was directed at the owner with his guest. When we mentioned that it was very hot he said he cannot please everyone. His behaviour was extremely unprofessional and rude. Will never go there again

Tonight you just lost 2 regular customers with your disgusting attitude. I have tolerated the managers attitude for some time now as this Chinese is convient to me. I regular go here and the manager is very abrupt just last week as I waited for my take away I had to sit and listen to the manger shouting at his staff about losing money on a deliver as the young boy must of offered free deliver by mistake to a post code too far. The way he was speaking to his staff was awful, So unprofessional and the amount of times my son was made to feel very un welcomed so he would never go in again. Tonight by mistake I rang the wrong China brassiere number and when my son went in to collect the order the manager was so rude in front of people to him . Telling him “ No order ! Go and get it from where you ordered it from “ when he explained his mum me ! Rang he said nope so my son said could he please order it again from here then he said no go and get it from your other shop ! He came out to the car so upset he is only 16 so I went in and told him how I thought his attitude is disgraceful and how could he not accept an order and to speak to a child in this way embarrassing him in front of people is horrible. The food is so not up to scratch feel it’s heated up very rude staff and a disgrace as a manager of all the times I use this place I’m done ! After now reading through your reviews I’m surprised you are still open . You seriously need to take a look at your manners and customer service .. Really disgraced by the manager ! Not acceptable ! If a customer wants to place an order regardless of me ordering it from another restaurant you should be happy to accept that order then that’s up to me to sort my mistake with the other restaurant but to actually tell him no and go and get it from “ your other shop as you said is unacceptable “ go and retrain in customer service I’m sure many agree on your appalling attitude ..
