Lucky Chinese Takeaway in Mid Sussex

Pleased with the food we ordered. Hot and fresh, could have done with a slightly bigger portion of roast duck but over all we were pleased. The food was flavoursome.

From a chefs point of view the food here is fantastic

Sorry, but the food was really disappointing. I paid for Singapore noodles, which you might expect to contain prawns, char Sui, chicken, peppers, curry powder, and so on. When I opened the container I found noodles, onions and two small pieces of chicken. No seasoning. No flavouring, no other ingredients. EDIT: The owner of Lucky Chinese got in touch with me and apologised for what seems to be a genuine mistake. He has offered me a replacement meal to compensate. This seems fair enough.

I'm not from this area and found this take-away through reviews. Ordering over the phone was simple, delivery was on time and the meal was still hot and very delicious. Would recommend and if returning to the Brighton area again would definitely use again. Very authentic dishes with fresh ingredients. Thank you Lucky Chinese!

The only place we order Chinese takeaway from. Great variety of unique dishes, my absolute favourite is the Sea Spice chicken/beef. Delivery is always hot and on time and value is excellent.

We have been using Lucky for some time. We now have our favourite dishes and every time we order, receive consistently delicious food. There are so many Chinese take aways we have tried in the area over the years, Lucky has been the best.

Great food and easy to order online but why bother having a place to write ‘notes’ if you’re not going to share them with the delivery person which would help them find our address? It can be difficult finding somewhere in the daylight let alone in darkness. When you include ‘right opposite a close and the type and colour of car is outside’ and they still call as they can’t find you!

Had set meal for 1 . Special fried rice,kung pao chicken and sweet and sour pork balls. Nice to have proper size rice and chicken ,excellent flavour and price.

I rarely leave bad reviews as in this climate especially id never want a business to suffer but also I feel the reviews are quite misleading and didn’t represent what I experienced sadly. I spent over £65 so I could try a variation of bits they offer and hopefully have myself a new local Chinese to order from. But it was really disappointing unfortunately. After reading the reviews I expected really nice food but did not receive this. Firstly the delivery driver was lovely and delivery was within 50 minutes of ordering & I also called to query a dish & the staff member was very polite on the phone. Ordering was also very easy online and I paid with apple pay via their website. However the quality was poor for a lot of dishes ie crispy chilli beef it wasn’t even tossed in the sauce the sauce was in the bottom of the container & the actual beef was soft dry and tough to bite just placed on top. The chicken balls were lovely BUT the chicken noodles were very dry and plain. I ordered chicken satay and as the photo shows it was very strange chicken. It was like it had been deep fried but it was inedible and stringy I couldn’t even take a bite it wouldn’t come off I had to peel it. The satay sauce was quite watery but the chicken and mushrooms and beef and mushrooms were ok. I would really advise the resturant to improve the quality of their food especially due to the prices of the items. This is by no means the cheapest Chinese in the area and therefore I would expect good quality food. Instead sadly £65 has been wasted and I even binned the leftovers when I would usually keep for the next day. Very upsetting.

Lucky Chinese has been our favourite Chinese take-away for a long time. The food always arrives hot, with good portion sizes and is delicious. Although they are not on the major food delivery apps, you can order online via their website.

After years of being a loyal customer sadly we wont be using them anymore. They have slowly gone down hill and tonight took the biscuit!! 1hour and 50 mins for warmish food, which mostly wasnt even in a bag but handed to me one container at a time and curry sauce everywhere (waste of 6.90!! And now clothes that need washing) seems to always take over an hour to come (live 6mins away) and always longer than they say.

Hour and a half waiting for food when I can walk there and back in 50 minutes. LOST my customer after over 15 years.

Was once a good place to get food, but an hour and a half is to long for food, specially when I can walk there and back in less then 50 minutes. Won't ever be using them again.

Food was tasty, hot, flavoursome and not too greasy. The ribs were delicious and the chow mein was nicely cooked and not mushy like others. Dumplings were tasty too and the chicken balls were probably best weve had. We had tried Canton before and were a bit disappointed so definitely recommend Lucky Chinese as a more impressive alternative.

Never used this takeaway before, looked at the online menu, very good selection of food, made an order over the phone, friendly and helpful, picked up in 20 minutes which was quick and good, the food quality was very good, lots of food which was cooked to a very good standard, only one very small downside, slightly too much salt but apart from that very good and will be coming back.

I can't comment on the service or atmosphere, but we've had a takeaway from there a couple of times, always turns up on time, well priced and very tasty food.

I am a very much regular at this takeaway and everytime I come back it’s better than the last .Their food is great and delicious!

£100+ order delivered quickly and every dish hot (we had a box full of trays!!). Even gave us some spicy salt pepper chips and I shall be purchasing these in the future - they were absolutely amazing. Chinese take away can be really hit and miss but this place will be our "go to" henceforth.

I like chilli beef. it crispy and tasty. Includes all noodle. When I order takeaway and delivery soo quickly. Yummy Yummy 😋🤤

This is the second time ive ordered, first time was ok but tonights was really greasy, sweet and sour was really strong and more on the sour side, for the money I've sent was not at all worth what we got, unfortunately we will not be ordering from here again!!

I cant recommend highly enough the service and food that we received from Lucky Chinese. We placed an order for our residents at our care home we received the order on time and there was more than enough for 40 residents and staff. Che delivered the food with his young son who was off school and it was a pleasure to have them come to our home. Great service, great people and great food. Thank you lucky Chinese.

Recently moved into the area and we love Lucky Chinese! Definitely our new go-to. We ordered lots of dishes for NY last night and it was absolutely delicious. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

Lovely food, fast turn around from order to collection. Adjusted all the dishes as requested and cooked perfectly. Salt and pepper chicken was not greasy very light and good flavours. Would recommend to anyone. 🙂

Stopped here to grab something to eat after long day at work. Rarely get Chinese as it can be so disappointing but just had the set meal for one, huge portions, very hot, very tasty and absolutely delicious. Enough for lunch today too, and just as nice reheated. New favourite

I love this Chinese, the lady behind the counter is very friendly and the food is always good. Never had a bad dish, I love their rice noodles and they are VERY helpful with allergen information. There are plenty of vegan options which can be rare for a Chinese, the black bean fried bean curd is lovely and I know it may sound strange but their chips are amazing!

Bit disappointing, not much chicken in the Hong Kong style chicken, very vinegary sweet and sour sauce, the egg fried rice was just boiled rice with egg in it… not a fan

Really impressed - just had a takeaway and would definitely order again. Really tasty, not greasy at all, food still piping hot on delivery and crispy things (prawn balls, salt and pepper squid) still crispy on arrival. It was great.

Best Chinese in Burgess Hill . I've been going to Lucky for over 2 years now and have never had a bad one .the food is well cooked and tasty and plenty of it , staff are helpful and the delivery driver is always polite. A little more expensive than other but well worth the extra .and well worth a try . 👍👍

We tried Lucky takeaway for the first time a few days ago. The the order took well over a hour to arrive after being told a 30 minute wait time. The food was hardly warm and bland. Not enjoyable at all. We tried them instead of Tim Ley’s which was a big mistake as Ley’s are always tasty, good value and excellent service

We were told our order would take an hour to be delivered, in fact it took 75 mins -we ordered at 5.45pm. When it arrived it wasn't the best Chinese we had had and we were quite disappointed. It looked unappetizing, we had to shred our own duck, never had to do this with other Chinese takeaways and the accompaniments that should have been cold were warm

I've never had any issues with them, food has always been good 👍 Very friendly and the food is top quality! Can't found fault at all. Very friendly people too. You can tell people like it the phone never stops ringing.

I was disappointed with many things. Chicken used in various dishes was clearly reconstituted, all pieces exactly the same shape, the satay sauce had no peanut taste as was so watered down. In general not good quality ingredients, less tasty and more expensive than most, they charge for delivery and for using a debit card without reason. Portion sizes were acceptable but less than many restaurants. Food arrived luke warm when delivered. There are much better around.

Don’t use, I ordered at 5pm Friday paid and paid an extra £3 delivery then no food arrived so I called and they said they made a mistake and will refund my money in 3 days time. Not happy!!

When we moved to the area, this was the first Chinese takeaway we ticked off in our hunt for our new favourite!The food arrived quickly and was piping hot - very good sized portions however quality wasn't the greatest. It wasn't the worst, but it certainly isn't leading the way.

We placed a large order a couple of weeks ago and the food was so disappointing. We have been using Lucky for the past 6 years but more recently has become VERY expensive and the food on this occasion really bland. The meat was fatty, the duck was tough and dry, sauce watery. It was in fact the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had. Hoping it was a one off occasion however for thr price we paid (£40 for two people) I am reluctant to return. Such a shame.

We ordered online after seeing they deliver to the outskirts of Hurstpierpoint. The food came within the hour, easy to order, hot, nice delivery man and food was delicious. Plenty of it and really tasty. Will definitely be ordering again.

Very pleased with their service, speed, size of menu options as well as taste of their food. We ordered and received food in matter of minutes afterwards. You get fairly decent portions for reasonable price. Their delivery service is affordable and they do delivery to some surrounding towns as well. Recommend

Ordered 2 Chinese curries, chicken balls and squid. Chicken balls tasted a little slimy, they were cooked but tasted funny. The biggest culprit was the chicken in the curry. I'd eaten a few bits and it tasted a little slimy. I put this down to cornflour/ cooking process but only after my wife had told me to stop eating did I realise the chicken was still pink in the middle. Not only that but the Chinese curry was so so (I can make a better one at home). Luckily my atomic gut allowed me to get away with eating raw chicken, however the wife was not so lucky and spent the next day with an upset tummy. I will never use this takeaway again and after speaking to other people this seems to be a common issue. AVOID

Noodles and rice is good but I'm not sure about the meats?

Thoroughly enjoyable meal, at a good temperature . No problems at all.

Food was "ok". Ordered Szechuan but there wasn't any chili in it at all. The chicken balls were very oily and the chicken fried rice only had about 6 pieces of chicken in. Quantity was a bit poor too. We've ordered from here before and it wasn't great then, there will not be a third.

Food was hot and once plated everybody enjoyed

Cold and took 1 hour to come! Wrong order and offered 10%. Was my local and usual place to get Chinese now moving on!!! Do not order!!!! And guess what, of course the manager didn’t call me back!!

ordered 2hrs before the requested delivery time of 8pm. food arrived 30mins late and the beef w cashew nuts was over cooked and dry and tasted off. May have been reason everyone had a bad belly the following day too. probably will not order from here again which is a shame as Lucky are usually very good both in terms of delivery and the quality of the food.

Awful food, cold chicken, food delivered didn't match labelling on the website - really sweet prawn dish but labelled as spicy on website. When complained, no effort was made for remediation or refund. Never again.....
