What a wonderful country pub this is with a really good atmosphere. Had been here for Sunday lunch before & never got round to doing a review but decided to try one of their Specials Nights. Friday night was Pie & Thai Night. As a lone diner sometimes things can be a bit awkward in some places but not at “The Eltisley” the staff were attentive but not overly fussy as I was on my own. The food was delicious a proper pie not just a lid on a dish was served with mash & veg. Followed by a tangy key lime pie with fresh strawberries for desserts that left a real zing on the tongue. Would highly recommend. Thank you everyone.

We came here with a car club, a group of around 20. The food was generally very good and they were especially helpful to two of us who needed a low sugar diet by providing us with a fresh fruit salad dessert. However normally when our group goes out and there are going to be more than say a dozen there we are asked to pre-book. In this restaurant we weren't and consequently we had to wait an awful long time for our food. I would suggest pre-booking for that number would be a better strategy.

I received a chicken chaser salad with hot chicken placed on a few anchovies and of course hot lettuce. It was inedible. My granddaughter had chicken goujons that were just shy of burt and to top it all there was a fly in the vinegar bottle. We only complained about the fly and the manager was to say the least terse and abrupt. Looked at food on tables near us and the food did not look very nice either.

Pub food can be a bit hit and miss and there’s a huge spectrum of choice and quality of food. Our experience at The Etisley was excellent and everything you could wish for in a pub meal. Firstly, the village setting with a perfect village green; even a horse mounting block outside to add a bit of authenticity. On entering, the welcome was warm without being over effusive and the pub clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The tables were set ready with sparkling tableware and glassware. Menu was a sensible size with interesting choices ranging from simple fare to items that I had to look up to find out what they were : ) All the food arrived together so we could start together (which doesn’t always happen) and nothing was left at the end! Obviously, a good sign of our enjoyment. Service very friendly and professional. As my review title says “a very much above average pub meal!)

.. booking this restaurant, if you do get your confirmation in writing. I phoned to book, they took my name &humber etc and confirmed my reservation. On arrival they had booked a huge private party so our booking was cancelled. I understand the big booking was very lucrative and don’t blame them for cancelling our booking but I was staggered in the first instance that they hadn’t called me back to cancel and secondly when we turned up still no apology just the implication that I had imagined or made up the booking. Customer service??

Went for a birthday lunch on Father’s Day. Very poor service. It took an hour waiting for starters. Two children not served at all until my daughter complained to the manager. Main courses delivered after another 39 minute wait. Two lamb dishes were cold. They were replaced with two more pieces of lamb that were nearly raw and had to be returned for further cooking .Monkfish hopelessly overcooked with missing veg. Children not served again and upon complaining to the manager we were told their food was being cooked. After 2 hours and unhappy children we decided to miss out on the sweets . We couldn’t take any more. We were offered 30% discount and an apology but in reality that covered little more than the missing sweets. An experience our family would like to forget and a poor way for my daughter to celebrate her birthday.

I have visited several times and always had a great experience. I went yesterday (a Thursday lunchtime) and it was nice to see it quite busy. The service and atmosphere was lovely but on this occasion, their food let them down. My brioche burger bun was so hard I couldn’t cut it, let alone eat it! I left it a while thinking the mayonnaise would soften it, but it didn’t and it was totally inedible. The spicy chicken that accompanied it was delicious and there were chips served with the meal so I didn’t need the carbs of the bun. My friend had the battered fish and the batter was so very thick it was ‘soggy’ under the top crisp layer. Again it was inedible. We mentioned these matters when the waitress collected the plates and hope that some improvements are made. We noticed a £3 reduction on our £40 bill but we weren’t sure what that related to, maybe it was a token gesture of apology. I sincerely hope this was a one off incidence.

Menu very limited. One of the items not available which left an even more limited choice .On the menu 3 items were different types of burgers. no specials board. All food very average starters , mains and deserts . All of us opted for various burger options mainly chicken and beetroot burgers . Very dry , not value for money. Chips were ok When asked for mayo and ketchup - sachets were brought out, and these couldn’t be opened easily. Not expecting sachets when you are paying these prices for meals. Asked for hot brownies for desert Weren’t hot and tasted like dry chocolate cake with a small blob of ice cream Service was good. Didn’t complain at the time as out with friends and we all just wanted to have a relaxing fun evening . As we all found the food the same didn’t think complaining would improve anything at the time. Will not be going back .

This pub is so lovely, set in a great location with amazing food, good drink and friendly efficient staff. We booked the grand barn for a birthday celebration and the service was faultless from start to finish. We had about 40 people attend and everyone remarked on how good the food and service was. The decor is also impressive and hiring the room makes you feel like it’s a really special event. Having eaten at the Eltisley before we knew the food was normally delicious but it’s very impressive to have 40 people served a 3 course meal and everyone to be happy! Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of hiring a room / the pub for a function. It is well worth it! Thanks again to the lovely team for all your hard work Heather & Terry

The thing about the food at The Eltisley is that it doesn't look like restaurant food. Presentation is magnificent: the food is as high as it is wide. And flavour is not far behind either. We enjoyed our chicken wings and onion rings as starters and tucked into a beautifully cooked steak and ale pie served with a rich wine gravy and fish and chips with what tasted like tome made tartar sauce. Desserts are often overlooked in restaurants, but the rhubarb millefeuille and the lemon meringue pie with gin and tonic ice cream were just sublime. How wonderful to have this as our local restaurant.

We returned to the Eltisley to see what it was like under new management. Our food was very good. We shared the cheese fondue for starter which was a very tasty and unusual starter option, I had the salmon and my husband had the sausages for mains which we both thoroughly enjoyed. The menu is quite meat and fish orientated and I would have liked to see more vegetarian options as that is what I would have usually opted for. However, the service was lack luster, such as we had to ask for a drinks menu and then nobody came back to take our order. Plus the decor now is bland and there's a real lack of atmosphere. Hopefully they'll read the feedback and make some changes as the kitchen is obviously spot on.

Visited the Eltisley for a meal out based on reading recent reviews of the place, but we were left underwhelmed at the whole dining experience. The starters of poutine and cheese fondue were very good as were the mains of trio of lamb, burger and pork loin. Although the staff were polite the poor service and staff training (starter plates cleared before last person finished, asked if we wanted deserts after starter and waited too long to take payment after receiving the bill) were a real shame. There were also children screaming in the restaurant throughout the meal - which I understand the restaurant cannot do much about but this detracted from our enjoyment also. As we live in a nearby village we were excited to dine here and planned further visits but unfortunately we won't be returning in the near future.

What can I say, if you want a venue for a wedding of just under 40 guests for formal wedding breakfast and up to 80 in the evening with a mixture of formal bar, breakout area and beautiful gardens, then this is it.

Nice venue. Well laid out - cool. Popped in for lunch in a Friday. Thought it would be busy. It wasn’t because the menu is an evening meal menu. Lots of posh nice hearty food but not a good lunch menu. Tone it down a bit and the place might be full.

The restaurant is very nicely decorated, shabby-chic style, spacious, not a big fan of the metal table tops though. The service was good, very prompt.

My friend told me that we were 'going to the pub' for dinner the other day, and I certainly was not expecting anywhere near as nice a delight as I did!

My fiancé and I live in the village and we went here for dinner this evening. I can honestly say this is some of the best food I have ever eaten. The pub have a new chef and it shows. It was reasonably priced and the service was also good. The bar staff were warm and friendly. We have also been to the pub for coffee and bar snacks which were also homemade. If your looking for great food and a warm atmosphere then you won’t be disappointed!

A welcome change with new management, chef and menu. No more gimmicky food on hooks and gone is the 100% gluten free menu. We visited on the second day of the brand new menu and all of the food was spot on with great service too. Nice cocktail/mocktail list. The truffle duck egg starter was absolutely delicious. The scallops starter was too. The meat is high quality - the sirloin was perfect and I loved the lamb trio dish. Don’t miss the doughnuts - what a treat! Only niggles - music and decor. The music was too mellow and too loud. The decadent, opulent decor in the barn does not suit the simple, classy menu but it’s a great space for groups. Even if you’re not local this wonderful pub/restaurant is worth a visit.

I have shared a number of reviews over of the years, both good and bad, but I can now safely say the food here is the best it has ever been. More important, it is consistently great .Great new chef, new menu and a hard working team who want this pub to work. If you haven't been for a while, give it another go - you will be pleasantly surprised. With the recent changes I look forward to seeing what else the team have planned : - )

Used to be a regular visitor for food and drink , and have to say the quality was not great and I became slightly disappointed with the gluten free only option . However after hearing about a menu change, was keen to try it again, the quality of the food was amazing. I had the lamb which was awesome. so flavoursome , and my partner had the pie , it was beautifully presented and very tasty . Can’t wait to go again. The staff were really helpful, friendly and very welcoming

The last time I reviewed this place was shortly after 'feast and frolic' took over and there were few positives to report beyond the triumph of style over substance. Two years later and it's got a change of management, along with a retreat from the GF approach.

Stopped in here for Sunday lunch, we had the roast beef with all the trimmings... I have to say it was easily one of the best Sunday lunches around Cambridgeshire. The beef was incredibly tender, the veggies were very well seasoned and the potatoes were crispy.

I am not a great fan of pubs. Partly because they often don’t feel clean. This pub was beautiful. The ambience was a mixture of tradition and style .

Both the meal and the service were 1st class. Although we lingered over our meal, we never felt rushed. Having eaten here several times, we were confident that it would be the ideal place for a special evening.

Papworth Hospital stay. Had to get off site for a change of scenery. Trip Advisor suggestion looked worth a drive by. Went in for a drink and ended up staying for 3courses!! Sweet potato nachos, chicken supreme and banoffee pie So many gluten free options! Nice chatty staff; warm welcome; a family party well catered for along with couples and singles. Lovely decor. Great ambiance and unobtrusive music right off my playlist. When am I going to be ill again?!? Could be worth the drive out if visiting Cambridge...

Our room was described as luxury and we paid more for the privilege. It was far from luxurious sadly. The bedding was super cheap feeling. There was no information in the room and no WiFi. We even had to pay for extra few bags!!!! Lighting was horrible. No light outside the room so we had a dark walk to and from the pub. The curtain rail came away from the wall with only a gentle pull and the breakfast offering was meagre. Overall a poor reflection of the quality of the experience in the pub.

First time here in several years, and not a lot has changed. It's a family pub and very noisy had a job hearing each other we first looked at sitting in the quarter area but the exterior was continually being left open and it aas very cold. Staff at the bar very were friendly and welcoming. We ordered 2 mixed grills and a gammon steak. Basically the food was OK except for the steak with the mixed grills we were asked how we wanted them done, which was both medium but both were over cooked and they couldn't be eaten the rest were fine. Don't know if we would go back.

Tucked away off the A10, this place has a great vibe. The place was buzzing when I visited. I loved seeing the coffee beans being roasted right there as you walk in and the aroma is incredible. The Turkish eggs were to die for. Step aside shakshuka, I think I’ve found my new favourite brunch. The coffee was rich and smooth, enhanced I’m sure by those amazing coffee aromas. Service was snappy and friendly. I’ll be back!

This Costa is now dog friendly. Coffee and cake was good as always, but was pleased to find out that you can now take your dog inside. Especially good to know as we head into the winter.

Fantastic, helpful staff. Lovely food. We hosted a baby shower for a friend. The staff were so helpful and kind. Nothing was too much trouble. They helped us set up decorations, move bits around, not too mention the Sunday lunch was fab. We will definitely go again.

The pub was in a quiet village with a good sized car park. We received a good welcome from the friendly landlord before trying a new to me beer which was excellent. When our friends arrived we ordered food. Pies for us and steak and chips and lasagne for them. All very good as was the wine. All in all a very enjoyable visit and we shall return.
