Absolutely a hidden gem 👏, we visited today 23/3/2024 and we had the best service and food we have had in a long time. The place was spotless and the food was amazing (but the cakes were 10/10 i highly recommend trying at least 1 😀) We arrived around 1.30 the place wasn't too busy and we were seated really quickly and served shortly after which we always like xxx there was a good selection of great coffee's, drinks, food and a great selection of homemade cakes 🧁🧁. We went for the ploughman's lunch (which is difficult to find this time of year in cornwall so that is a bonus👍), and also the bacon and cheese toastie, with a white coffie and a can of coke. This cost us £32 which we think for a small business with great service and amazing quality food is very good value for money. If you are in the area please make sure you pop in, it is a small family run business... why not support the locals 💖 I have attached the menu below for you all to see 💖

Fantastic little find. We had attended a hospital appointment and wanted something to eat afterwards. We found the place on trip advisor and phoned ahead to check opening times. The woman on the phone was helpful and explained they had several bookings due in but we were welcome to come and see if there was space at the sharing table or sofa. We decided to take a chance and we were lucky to get the sofa seats. We were then offered a table as there was enough time before a reservation was due in. A good menu with lovely homemade cakes on display too. We opted for the Herdsman lunch and a cream tea. Both were delicious and I wish I’d asked what the relish was as it was yum. The scones were perfect and warm. Plenty of Jam and cream too- no scrimping here! The staff were friendly and welcoming. I can’t believe they’ve been there 10 years and I’ve never been before. Planning on visiting more often and will book ahead to guarantee a seat.

Visited to day having read good reports we drove20 + miles for tea having read that it was open till 4.30 on a couple of cream tea sites we arrived at 3.20 only to read a sign saying we close at 3.30 i spoke to a member of staff and explained that we had seen it was open till 4.30 and given it was only 3.20 we would be quick but she instead that they close at 3.30 and they could not serve us very poor response and a waste of peoples time and money so don’t rely on this business being open and I would suggest they take time to notify the numerous cream tea sites that they have changed their trading times

We visit fairly regularly and have noticed on our most recent visit that everything seems more expensive which is fine but portion sizes also seem to have gotten smaller. My partner had the pulled pork toastie, which for over £8 should have been a bit more substantial. I had the ploughman’s which was nice but again, felt like I was not worth over £10 especially when it was mainly potato salad and salad! Two slice of apple seems a bit poor. The scones were delicious as always though.

Myself, partner and little boy visited this afternoon and we absolutely loved it, fantastic menu with plenty of variety and incredibly well priced. The scones were freshly baked and hot served with delicious Jam and clotted cream (Great portion sizes) my little boy had a 'meze' plate which consisted of crackers, cheese and fruits which he loved snacking on. If you're looking for a lovely hidden treasure this is definitely the spot. It's very clean, lovely decor and just in general the perfect tea room. You will not be disappointed. Thank you to all the fantastic staff that served with a smile and warm welcome. We will be back!

I really wanted to like this place. It has a cute little garden and lovely decor. Staff polite and friendly. My mister liked his ploughman's. Although to me it was just a deconstructed sarnie. Nothing special. The coffee was the tiniest cup akin to a cafe au lait in France, but for 3 quid?! My real gripe was the quiche. Advertised as Stilton, I didn't get even a hint of cheese, let alone one of the most powerful cheesy cheeses! I can only guess that it was a plain broccoli one? Also it was the most disappointingly flat quiche that I have ever seen. Microwaved too. So after my 4 bite, 8 quid, slightly soggy, cowpat flat, cheese less quiche, I avoided ordering the cake. So can't comment on that. Won't be going back to find out either. As I say, such a shame..... But you can't charge 8 quid for a small snack and expect happy customers.

We came here for lunch, having read the reviews of the Elm Tree, and weren't disappointed! The cafe is very neat, tidy and super clean with a lovely cake display cabinet to entice those with a sweet tooth into having a slab of cake - which we did! The blueberry and lemon was amazing - highly recommended. The lunch food was simple and tasty and there was just the right amount of food on the plate. The staff were really lovely; super attentive and very smiley. The one downside (for me) was that when the cafe is busy, the chatter seems exceptionally loud. So if you're looking for somewhere to have a deep and meaningful conversation, maybe avoid the lunchtime rush! Overall, this place is simply lovely and I will definitely be going back - for cake!!

Coming to the end of a busy week in Cornwall discovered the elm tree close to where we were staying as felt we had to do a cream tea before heading home. Did not disappoint just wish had discovered it 48 hrs earlier so could have booked their full cream tea special! However, we ordered a savoury and a sweet cream tea and it was delish and the service and staff were so friendly and accommodating . So nice to see a small family business that exceeds where other bigger places fail and definitely worth booking a table! The garden is lovely and if weather had been better would have enjoyed chilling outdoors Take time to find this little gem on your satnav and pay then a visit

Went with a couple of friends, between us we had quiche and paninis. The so called salads were a couple of sad looking lettuce leaves and the whole plates looked like they were done by someone who was tired and fed up of doing it to be honest. The quiche was unseasoned and flat, could have done better myself and i can't even cook. The rest of the food was totally overpriced so we felt ripped off really, there are other places where i think they enjoy making food for people so we will going to them instead.

We arrived at The Elm Tree after following our sat nav after we discovered our first choice was take away only due to covid restrictions. When we got there the carpark was full (which is usually a great sign that the food is worth travelling for however during these uncertain times we were hoping that this didn't mean we'd have to consider our third option!).When the lady opened the door we could see that the cafe was full. She asked if we had a reservation when we said we didn't she said we would be more than welcome to sit outside or wait for a table to come available. Even though it was October the sun was shining so we opted to sit outdoors. The garden was beautiful and as we were the only couple outside it felt like our own private oasis. My husband asked what the soup of the day was . He had difficulty deciding between the broccoli and Stilton or the sweet potato and coconut. He chose the latter and was certainly not disappointed. The soup was thick and creamy yet not too rich. He was also given a choice of doorstop bread or cheese scone. He chose the door step bread. One slice of this was more than generous. I asked for a salad but as I have dairy allergy I had certain stipulations however nothing was too much trouble. Afterwards we ordered tea and scones. The milk was fresh and delicious. My husband commented that it was the perfect accompaniment to the clotted cream and we soon learned that roddahs make semi skimmed milk too. Coming from Blackpool all these things are very new to us. Not only was the food amazing, great selection of cakes, scones tea cakes, and meals available but the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anybody and really wish the owners and staff well as the thoroughly deserve it.

Currently eating in at the moment and I have to leave a review. My boyfriend was looking for a tea room to get cream tea on the way back from Falmouth and found this place. We called here for lunch last Thursday, and what a pleasant experience we had! A couple of days earlier we'd gone to the restaurant of a local National Trust property and we were served our meal on a paper plate with wooden, throw-away cutlery, and a cup of tea in a paper cup. The experience was dismal. At Elm Tree, by contrast, it was business as usual. Our meals were served on earthenware plates with silver cutlery, and tea came in a proper tea pot with cups and saucers. If Elm Tree can continue to do things in style, despite Government coronavirus restrictions, why can't the National Trust? And, of course, it goes without saying, the meal itself was excellent.

Visited today with two teenagers and two children. Delighted to find ample parking for my minibus even though it was busy. Inside the space is bright and fresh with plenty of room at the good sized tables. We chose from the selection of delicious home made cakes and my teenage boys had a cream tea and a savoury cheese tea. My hungry boys declared them “proper sized scones!” Praise indeed. Really can’t fault this place. They happily served a smaller portion for my youngest supplying a plastic cup. Toilets were spotless as was everything else. Staff cheerful and helpful and coffee piping hot. Crocheted tea cosies a lovely touch. We have tried out many tea rooms and this is top score from us. Having a cosy area with a Woodburner and selection of toys was a bonus for my youngest and meant I could enjoy a hot drink in peace.

Called on the off chance on the last Friday in January initially to find the car park and restaurant (surprisingly) full - having suggested to my wife earlier that we ought to book!Thankfully as we arrived a table finished and left, vacating a table and parking space. We didn’t want a heavy lunch so I had a smoked mackerel salad and my wife the Huntsmans salad. Both lovely, fresh and tasty and served with some bread (choice of white or brown) and butter. We finished off sharing a piece of orange almond cake - a nice touch they cut the piece in half again and served them on two separate plates - with a pot of tea for one and an Americano. There was a good choice of cakes. What’s really handy is that the vast majority of their menu (all made fresh to order in their kitchen) is either gluten free or can be made that way - they even have gluten free bread alternatives if that’s what’s required. They also have a couple of settees in front of a wood burner for a relaxed coffee/tea if you’d rather not sit up to a table. Will definitely be going back.....a nice new find for lunch or morning/afternoon tea and cake!Thank you.

An opportunity to meet up with a friend that I haven't seen since August and a chance to introduce her to The Elm Tree. It is located mid-way, so we both had the same drive to make. Despite it being a busy lunchtime, there was space for us in the car park and a table had been reserved. Parsnip and apple soup accompanied by a cheese scone for me and a Ploughmans for my friend. Along with a pot of tea wearing one of the lovely knitted tea cosies. The portions of cheese on the Ploughmans were very generous and so I had a piece of Yarg (my favourite) and some Cheddar to add to my soup and scone. We had a good catch up on family news, travels and life in general but even with all this chatter we didn't have room for any cake. Great service as always and my friend now has The Elm Tree on her list of venues to take her 98 year old father out for a bite to eat.

Lovely atmosphere. Good food, not a large menu but understandable as small cafe. Bit on the expensive side but not sure if all locally sourced etc so that maybe the reasoning. Will visit again definitely regardless. Great for kids too as very child friendly, even have toys for the little ones which I’ve never seen at a restaurant or cafe ! So big points for that as stopped my little one wanting to leave the table. Very healthy menu too and also healthy menu for kids. Lots of the menu items seem like they’ve put a lot of effort into trying unique food ideas out and done well with this. Only negative was parking was very difficult so unfortunately I think they may loose customers due to lack of parking

We were surprised to seethe staff close at 3.45 when it was clearly advertised to close at 4. We only just got in in time. The elm tree seemed to be targeted mainly at people who would drive there - we are walkers, but I don't think it was located particularly on any walking routes. Would we go back? Possibly, but to be honest I think we'd be looking out for somewhere with a little more character.

The soup and cheese scone is the very best. Cakes are out of this world as is the cream tea. Soup is handmade, thick and delicious. Cheeses scones full of cheese and flavour, light too. Cakes and cream tea to die for.

Have been here several times & it's always lovely as homemade food but today it was marred (after we spent over £30 for lunch for 2 of us) by them cutting a slice of chocolate cake in half for us to take away @ £3.

We called in on the way back from a shopping spree in Truro. Perfect stop off for coffee, tea, cakes and a super-sized hot, white chocolate. Cakes were delicious - so many to choose from!

Fantastic friendly tea room. The food is all home made from gorgeous cream teas to home made tasty soup. The tea room is spotlessly clean and has a cosy homely feel. The staff are friendly and helpful. I've been several times for morning coffee and cake. As a special treat had a super lunch. I can't praise the Elm Tree enough just brilliant.

Ordered the chicken pie - very disappointing! It was well past its prime, having been over-reheated and tough. Food is usually good but on this occasion fell well below standard.

Staying locally whilst on holiday and saw the tearoom advertised. Damp afternoon so thought we would treat ourselves. Alas closed on a Tuesday- we left disappointed. Will try again another day - which we did. The tearoom is open 10-16.30 except Tuesdays. We had 2 scones between us but would have liked more cream please next time. The slice of Victoria sandwich cake was gorgeous. There are six tables and two settees to relax in. The decor is clean and modern. Polite friendly owner. Would call in again. Small car park but good for people with disabilities. Young mothers eating whilst we were there with their young babies and so quite noisy.

So good to find somewhere that is wheelchair accessible as well as being a very pleasant place to visit. Morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea are all taken in an attractive room with sofas , tables and chairs.

Have recently discovered this little gem and was wondering whether to post a review as I don't want it to get any busier as we won't get a table!! The food is delicious, all freshly cooked or prepared. I've had an ameretto cake, a lemon and blueberry cake and a savoury cream tea with cheese scones, cream cheese and pickle, all highly recommended. The staff are very helpful and let us take some cake for our friend in hospital.

Been before always excellent. Went for mum birthday day before bank holiday 10 of us. What can I say absolutely amazing from start to finish. Table well laid we all had cream except 2 one had lemon drizzle cake and one had Malteaser tiffin. Scones were just warm which is just perfect. Beautiful pots of tea and plenty of it. Absolute gem of a place. Will return many times I can tell you. Keep it up ladies you did a great job and thank you. Well worth a visit.

A friend recommended this tea room last week! We visited and loved it! We had a cream tea which was huge! It was well presented and I loved the little China plates, cups and saucers? Next time I will be trying the savoury cream tea...looked fab!

I had been meaning to try The Elm Tree for a long time. A friend and I decided to meet there for tea and cake. What an excellent selection of cakes there were. It was difficult to choose. Our Earl Grey tea came in a teapot covered with a sweet old fashioned tea cosy. My chocolate cake was excellent, moist and light. My friend's blueberry sponge was also declared as being excellent. We were lucky as the sun was shining and we took the opportunity to sit in the garden. Service was friendly and speedy, despite being busy. Looking forward to a return visit.

Nice women serving and cooking, very pleasant. I felt too 'male' to be there taken up, as it was, with what I can only describe as a mother and baby group! Lovely I'm sure (done my fair share of that thank you and enjoyed it) but certainly not what I would chose for a lunch time. I didn't know where to look! Now, before some of you jump on my case. I am neither old, nor old fashioned. I applaud women's rights to do their natural thing wherever they chose but then I need my rights not to have to look at it when I'm eating. Unfortunately, the room was so small that there was no-where else I could go (the room is like a rectangular waiting room in a train station.) The food was actually nice if a bit frilly. Lots of salad garnish which I hate (give me a slag by all means but a bit of grated carrot and a lettuce leaf is just silly). I think if you are either a mother with a baby who doesn't get out much, ,or an older lade who likes garden centres, this will be right up your alley. :)

We were house/animal sitting for friends in Cornwall and decided on this place based on TripAdvisor reviews. They were very welcoming of us and two dogs, we sat in the garden and had a ham and cheese panini, pulled pork toasted sandwich, shared a cream tea and a couple of the raspberry smoothies. The food was delicious, scones were huge and warm. The raspberry smoothies were fresh and just amazing. They also do a high tea which you have to pre-book, we'll do that next time we are in the area. Service was quick and friendly, couldn't have been better.

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.

Absolutely amazing day spent at The Sharksfin for our daughter's wedding last Saturday. Wow! What a venue! From start to finish everything was wonderful. Great service with happy staff who were enjoying looking after us and wanted to make the day special. The canapes were gorgeous and main meal truly excellent. The Chefs worked their socks off. Would highly recommend. Thank you to Lisa and her whole team. You were fantastic! We will be back for a roast very soon 🙂!

Poor service and virtually no vegan/vegetarian options. Asked for a veggie burger which was on the menu, they didn't have any. Asked what else was vegan, they didn't know. Service was very slow and all front of house seemed uninterested and more keen to huddle round the bar chatting. One waitress was particularly rude, I wouldn't go there again and wouldn't recommend. Lots of much friendlier places in Falmouth.
