Never in all my years have I been treated so rudely. Ordered food, was not advised of an hours delay. Obviously, after working in hospitality for most of my life, I appreciate how difficult it can be, but I have always advised a customer, or been advised elsewhere, if there was a delay of more than 20 to 30 minutes. After 55 minutes, I queried how long the food would be. Can't you see how busy we are? was the response!! We have a dining room too!! She came back a few minutes later and said she would check how long it would be, and said 5 minutes. She then proceeded to throw our money back on the table, said she would serve us personally, but wasn't charging us for it, and stormed off. We sat another 5 minutes and then left. We got down the road, and she came out shortly afterwards, shouting your food is on the table. I do apologise if my husband's response wasn't pleasant. As I said earlier, I appreciate how difficult it can be, but manners cost nothing, and there wasn't any kind of apology 😕

With this being my local pub when I am at a family second home, I have began to know the staff and the staff recognise me. They are so unbelievably friendly and always helpful and smiley. This occasion I, my partner and my friend came for dinner. My friend had a pizza, my partner had the katsu curry and I had the burger. The food was delicious, made with good quality ingredients and deelpy enjoyable. This was e handed by the ever friendly service the staff gave, and the welcoming and lively atmosphere the pub radiates. Highly recommend for a pub meal or a friendly place to drink.

I love The Elleray. We found it one year on holiday because everywhere else was fully booked for Sunday Lunch and it has now become something we have to do each year. The roast dinners are really tasty with lots of delicious fresh trimmings and a decent price. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. We love going in for a drink as well, it's a really calm atmosphere.

Visited today at 3.10pm looking for a meal and some drinks. We were a quiet, mixed aged group between 28-62 and wanted to sit outside. The seats were wet so my daughter went inside to ask for some blue roll to wipe the seats with, the barmaid was quite rude and said they didn't have any. When we asked for some serviettes instead, she said we couldn't have any as they were £5 a packet. And that's why they don't like people sitting outside. Not a good start! I then went in and asked if it would be possible if we could order sandwiches, as it was just past the the 3pm cut off. I was advised in a rude manner that there would be NO way. This was fine, but the manner in which she spoke was rude and she was calling me honey which is quite patronising. Finally, we went in to order our food and was told there was an hour wait for food. And that if she had known there were 9 of us when we initially came in she would have turned us away as there was only her and the chef in and they were too busy. The pub was by no way even half full. This barmaids manner was rude and condescending. We left and went somewhere else. I have never visited anywhere with such a rude member of staff who would turn away £200 worth of business. I think some staff training on manners wouldn't go amis here!

After a long drive this place was just what we had hoped to find for a lunch stop. The beer garden was a wonderful sun trap and we both enjoyed our food, service was quick and the staff friendly. Pricing in Windermere is on the expensive side, but this place represented good value for money.

Our family of seven plus our dog randomly called into the Elleray for lunch. We didn’t know what to expect and it was Monday, a day which we have found isn’t usually a good day for eating out! We stayed over the Easter bank holiday weekend, lovely room with everything you need for a short stay. Fresh flowers in the room were a lovely touch, bright and airy too with a lovely hot shower. Hosts were more than helpful and welcoming, with the pub having a nice, friendly atmosphere. We ate in the bar one night (no pre booking like a lot of places in Windermere) extensive menu and the food was beautiful, really good value for money. (A lot of the restaurants in Windermere can be expensive, but great prices here) Breakfast didn’t disappoint either, ordered the night before, which didn’t bother us, fresh hot and plentiful. Would definitely stay again. Parking is the only negative - not the Ellerays fault at all, it’s clearly advertised. The train station fills up fast, we found long stay option in broad street for approx £16 for the weekend.

Myself and my partner stayed here for Easter bank holiday for 2 nights. The hosts were amazing and very helpful. Breakfast was great and the hosts catered for my partner who is gluten free without an issue. Bedroom was clean and just what we needed as a base for our weekend. Didn’t get chance to eat here for dinner but the menu looked great, we did enjoy a drink in their beer garden which had a great atmosphere. We would definitely return and would recommend to anyone looking for a convenient place to stay in Windermere! Thanks for such great hospitality.

Well, when I wrote my last review in October, it was our first visit to the Elleray in Windermere. This is our second visit and consistent with the last time, we weren’t disappointed. We were made welcome from the start. The management and staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are kept very clean and the tea coffee and biscuits refreshed every day. As a nice seasonal touch there was a tiny Christmas tree and chocolates in the room. The food is excellent. The full Cumbrian breakfast is a must, but there are other items on the menu just as good and they will always accommodate special dietary needs. The lunch and evening menu’s are also very good, especially the chunky chips, a meal in themselves. Overall an excellent 3 days stay. Thank you to Caz and Tom. Hopefully see you in March.

Rude Staff, stay away! The place looks really nice, but we were shocked to find that they refused to serve a family in a half empty place, even though there was no good reason. It wasn’t just that, but the attitude was extremely rude and when I said maybe we can come back a different day for food she still basically tried to say it would not be possible. Anyway it was one of the rudest exchanges ever had with a restaurant worker.I should add that we are very presentable, polite, well dressed, and there was no reason for us for them not to want the. business. There were nine of us, but we were more than happy to sit in separate tables, and eat at separate times, which we tried to explain to her. Apparently limit is eight and they refused to allow split tables. No wonder it was half empty, where everywhere else in the town is full up.I urge you not to reward rude businesses with your custom when so many great businesses are struggling at the moment.

The pub / hotel had only just reopened after the virus, talking to the owner she reckoned they only just made it before permanent closure occurred. Thank goodness they got through it, why? The ambiance, the warmth felt, the quality of the food was amazing, I’m not a fan of “Greasy burgers” but for some reason I decided to try one, guess what? It was like eating a fillet steak disguised as a burger, the chips were proper chips, not these french fries sticks, my wife had cod and reckoned it was one of the best ever tasted! Shout out to the lady who greeted us - we had a train to catch and she took our order immediately and even let us know our train was running on time! Pub has a great beer garden that get loads of sun. Food was reasonably priced and very nice. Will become our regular stop before getting the train home!

We spent two nights at the Elleray and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff seemed to be a bit stretched but were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was freshly decorated and comfortable. The beer garden is a lovely addition and the food excellent. Our breakfast orders were taken the evening before and were everything you could ask for ina breakfast. Would def visit again if in the areq.

We visited the Elleray for lunch which was delicious and then came for a drink a couple of days later with friends. The couple who are in charge of the pub are so friendly and deserve to do well. We will definitely come and stay at the pub for a weekend away. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

After being let down by a neighbouring bar we came to the Elleray to see if we could get some food.Unfortunately, we were informed that service had finished, but still decided to stay for a drink. We told the lady who greeted us what had happened at the previous bar and that we were out for our wedding anniversary. She must have had a word with the chef and returned to tell us that the chef was willing to cook us up some fish and chips. We couldn't believe the kindness of both the chef and this young lady and readily accepted the offer. The fish and chips were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Next thing, a cheesecake arrived from the kitchen with a 'happy anniversary' message. We couldn't believe our eyes and the kindness and exceptional service we received. The young lady, the young waiter and the chef deserve every credit for their involvement in salvaging our anniversary. Thank you.

called in for a drink and the service we received was 2nd to none, called in for a meal a couple of days later and we left with very full bellies and smiles on our faces! Very clean, attentive staff and food was lovely with a decent price tag

We stayed one night. Great bedroom, fantastic breakfast. Both the gent checking us in and the lady doing breakfast were great. No idea why they close the bar two nights a week! The town was busy and we struggled to get into anywhere for food.

Cracking pub ouch 27/8/20. Off visitor track, but advantage was nice and quiet. Beat fish and chips I’ve had for ages. Husband is a big foodie and had Cumberland sausage and mash -no complaints. Great service.

Sat in the beer garden on the first visit and enjoyed a refreshing pint of Beer Moretti. Went back next day to watch the football on a huge screen and of course enjoyed some more beer. Good atmosphere and very efficient and polite bar staff.

Welcomed by a very friendly barman named Tom (with a beard) who was chatty and easy going. We only wanted sandwiches and a jacket potato but everything was superb. Lovely filled sandwiches and the extra chips were light and fluffy inside. Great local beer too, very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Very basic and not suitable for a family. Stains on carpet, wall and ceiling. wallpaper peeling and missing in places. Very grubby looking. Spot lights missing in bathroom resulting in large holes in the ceiling. Being a pub, there was loud music and noise from downstairs on the evening, which kept our daughter awake. Cracked windows and they do not close fully, resulting in a breeze constantly coming through them and they are only single glazed of poor quality so the outside noise is heard. The bed was the worst bed we had ever slept in. We complained and was told they are aware they are in need of a refurb however they were unable to move us into a different room. Best part of our stay was the lovely lady who helped out during breakfast, she was was very apologetic about our awful room. See pictures.

Stayed at the Elleray for 2 nights over the weekend. Welcoming atmosphere and great staff, it's a pub, so dont expect a fancy reception desk, you check in at the bar. It's the most expensive pint in the area though at £5.00. Lovely beer garden at the rear. Our room was very clean, with a huge smart TV and wifi. Little extras of bottled water and biscuits on the tea tray were a nice touch too. Stair carpets were a bit wiffy, damp mouldy smell, but our room smelled fresh and clean. Full Cumbrian Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Dont be put off by the other reviews of this hotel, I am picky and as one of the cheaper hotels in Windermere it was definitely value for money. It's literally a 4 minute walk just around the corner from the train station too. Ideal location for all of Windermere and shops or a 20 minute walk down to Bowness. I'd stay here again no problem.

Visited for food whilst walking around Windermere. Found the menu quite limited, not a lot of options. Didnt feel that hungry so ordered a couple of sides chips and a garlic pizza bread. Underneath the pizza was black so you could just tasted burnt and the chips were ok. Probably wouldn’t bother again.

A really friendly pub (and hotel I believe), great choice of food and Sky Sports to watch. A nice beer garden tucked round the back, though I still fail to see why people are allowed to smoke in the beer garden? This isn't a comment aimed at the Elleray but at all beer gardens.

Review of the pub from a craft beer point of view. Nice enough pub with 2 cask beers on and a mediocre selection of bottles. No real surprises here. They have free WiFi. Expensive at 2 pounds for a half pint. If you are a craft beer lover you are better off going to the Crafty Baa just down the road.

Nice pub for a beer outside on a nice day. Inside is your typical pub, but there is a beer garden at the back of the pub.

Fuimos por una cerveza y algo de comida. Se veía genial desde fuera. El sol brillaba y entraba en la gran cervecería al aire libre.

Visited a couple of times last week and as the weather was so good, we sat on one of the tables outside, at the back of the pub. Pleasant surroundings, not a garden but plenty of big tables.

We only wanted a coffee and a cake as it was only 11.15 AM but had to queue for 20 minutes behind people ordering hot food and spending ages deciding what they wanted at the last minute Nice stuff but it needs organising a lot better Guess as its volunteer run it depends very much on what the staffing is on the day They need a separate area for those just having coffee etc rather than a meal

Tried the drive thru...waited and waited was nobody home?, Was it closed? Reversed out and entered the shop and waited at the counter and waited and waited....3 or 4 staff just chatting away oblivious to customers. 17:00 pm on Saturday. Outstanding service.

Lovely setting to relax and enjoy the views having lunch or just a drink. A few had lunch said was nice. Me personally thought expensive for soup but enjoyed my coffee. Worth it for the views.

Good location, pleasant staff but expensive for poor quality coffee and stale cake. Was offered a refund on the cake which I declined.
