Stayed for 3nights when we arrived the room wasn’t made up from previous guests had to wait an hour to be readied then when we got in room it was on half done I.e sticky table floor not vacuumed there was also no heating followed by no hot water.only saving grace was the breakfast and breakfast staff were really nice

Love it here. Impossible to walk past on a sunny day. Could sit outside watching village life for hours! Lovely staff. Shame they can't serve food all day. You'll most likely need to book if you plan to eat here. Food is good pub grub. Could do with a few parasols outside though, as it is a suntrap and dogs will soon overheat, which obviously limits drinking time😉

We visited the Queens Head last year during a brief visit to Hawkshead, after our visit we decided next time we were in the Lake District we would book a stay. Fast forward to this week and we had the most perfect 1 night stay, the room was immaculate and our evening meal/morning breakfast was excellent. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Hawkshead⭐️

Stopped in for food as staying nearby, only had the pizza and the other half had a lamb hotpot, and it was really REALLY good! Food was hot on arrival, the pizza base was light and fluffy yet well cooked! And very tasty! The other half was very impressed with the hotpot! Came out piping hot! The meat was tender and the veg was not over cooked!! All in all VERY impressed and well worth a review!! I highly recommend this lovely little pub and a great location and great food.

Just got back from a two night stay, couldn’t fault it one bit. The room was so cosy, well maintained and really nicely done - also a very comfy bed, always a winner. The service was perfect - always with a smile, and very accommodating. It was the busiest I’ve seen it, and they still kept their positivity. Then the food, again excellent. Really loved our little getaway, will definitely return. Thanks to all.

We recently stayed in Hawkshead for a weekend and found this pub to be really warm, welcome and hospitable. The staff were really friendly, attentive to us both and our little pooch. We had drinks the first few nights as they had no tables for food. However we enjoyed a roast dinner on Sunday before heading home. For a chain pub we were very impressed with the quality of the roast dinner and it was very enjoyable!

Lovley food and drinks but unfortunately caotic service and serious hygene concerns. The roast dinner was very good but unfortunately I found a short dark hair in my dinner and then on my cocktail glass. After discovering these I noticed most of the staff were constantly petting dogs and then serving and handling food. Our experience was only salvaged by a lovely young blonde woman who appeared to be doing damage control, stepping in for our previous waitress—who was noticeably moody, never checked in on us, and seemed to have given up on most of her tables. I passed on my concerns to our second waitress. We would come back but service would need to improve and the petting of dogs should maybe not take place during dinner service.

Lovely pub/hotel. We stayed in Room 1, large bedroom with a kingsize bed. It had a coffee machine and a kettle for tea & coffee. The bedroom was located at the front of the hotel, so overlooking the square and also the side road. Beautifully decorated. The room was above the bar area. We did hear some noise from our room, we were not sure whether it was from the bar or from another bedroom. It was ok, but I dont think I would want to stay in this room in the height of summer as we wanted an early night because of a race the next morning and as there is seating outside, I think it would be a little noisy. Bedroom decorated beautifully, but there is a problem with condensation in the bathroom. Extractor fan not working? No heating on. The heating wasnt switched on in our room, although we turned the thermostat on full. This weekend the temperature was lovely outside, but we felt a chill in our room at bed time, which was fine once in bed. Also, our towels never dried in the bathroom as the heating was switched off.

We booked to ensure we would get a table. Service was professional and attentive. Seabass was good choice of meal by my wife with decent portion of fish nicely cooked. Slight hiccup with food delivery. We ordered one starter & 2 mains but when the waiter arrived with the food it was the mains. They had missed my starter. My wife tucked into her meal while I waited for my starter. They did promise to deliver a fresh main course for me but I am convinced my steak had been kept warm. It was OK. They were suitably apologetic for the slip up and waived the cost of my starter as a consolation. We did try a return visit on the Sunday but had not booked and were turned away as there were no free tables.

The accommodation itself was clean, well-kept, and in a lovely spot, everything you’d want from a cute Lake District pub, right in the centre of town and walkable to all the cute shops, so no complaints there. Unfortunately, the service really let the experience down. The main lady who checked us in was consistently rude and abrupt, and couldn’t even crack a smile which made things feel quite unwelcoming. Everyone in our group experienced the same and commented on it which took away from the natural atmosphere of the pub and a lovely weekend in the lakes

We were on our way to Scotland from Cheshire to celebrate our 50th Wedding anniversary and stopped off at the Queens Head in Hawskhead From the moment I rang to confirm availability of a dog friendly room to check out, all the staff have been professional helpful and friendly. The Queens Head has recently had a make over and the bedrooms were spotless and comfortable with all the facilities needed for a great stay. Tea / coffee ,kettle ,milk in fridge, biscuits, bottled water ,hairdryer, hand wash, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. We were in the Brown Cow rooms opposite the pub. We booked a table for dinner at the same time as booking our room and it was a good job we did as the restaurant is very popular and they were turning people away due to all the tables were taken. The menu was varied with a good choice and reasonable priced with ample portions. The breakfast was also excellent, From the pub there are several walks which our Labrador loved. As the village has a restriction on cars you have to park in the local car park a 4 min walk away however if you book directly with the Queens Head they will loan you a car park permit so you don’t have to pay the parking fees. We would have no hesitation in staying there again and will be doing so in the near future

Disappointed that we were unable to book a table for a family of 6 people. We were told they only did walk ins. When we asked how likely we were to be able to get a table for 6 people at say 6.30pm we were met with an unhelpful response. So much so, that we decided to book elsewhere to ensure we could get table. My daughter and husband did try the restaurant a couple of nights later. In fairness they enjoyed the food but felt the place lacked any atmosphere. Maybe they should allow bookings in future!

On a busy day (half-term crowds), we were warned that service might be slow, due to short-staffing. But we got served without much delay and the food was delicious, as usual. My lamb casserole contained more rich, tender, braised meat than I ever recall getting in such dish before, anywhere; and my partner's meal was equally delightful. We've eaten here before, so we always head for the Queens Head, and we will next time we visit Hawkshead. We recommend eating here, confidently.

Shambolic Management, I have never been in a place where the staff worked so hard to turn customers away on the pretence that they were short staffed, I was appalled at the way they dealt with an elderly gentleman who visited the pub with his daughter to make a booking for dinner, the staff flatly refused to take a booking and told him that he'd have to turn up and take pot luck that there was availability, disgusting. A shame really because the beer was good and the food was ok, but the bar manager, thought he was doing customers a favour by accommodating them. He and the waitress were leaving to return to London, she was very pleasant by the way. Liked the atmosphere of the place, but the way customers were treated was a disgrace, I've never seen so many people spoken to in such a rude manor, hopefully his replacement will have a desire to be pleasant and accommodating.

We came twice this Bank Holiday to meet family and friends as we like this place from previous experiences. Unfortunately, this once very nice pub with good service and helpful staff, failed on this occasion. Toilets were poorly maintained i.e. door locks and toilet paper missing. We attempted to order food just before 2pm (menu stated serving until 3pm), only to be told that they take no more orders as kitchen is too busy. This affected our plans. In addition, waitress refused to switch on heaters in the beer garden. We were told that they can only be on when outside temperature was under the certain level. Please note that it was 11 C and we were in the shade with no place to sit inside! After pointing this out to the waitress, she shouted a rude comment: “I am not cold!”. Overall, it seems that the place is badly managed. We will probably give it another chance for old time sake, but we might avoid it if continues to deteriorate.

Beautiful sunny day, so big queues, only team of two, front of house - so appreciate they were under pressure. Ordered coffees and a scone to takeaway. Had to return to ask for sugar and spoon. Got sugar, but no spoon. Coffee was ok. Menu says scones have cream and homemade jam, my takeaway scone had only butter. It was a lovely fruit scone, but was like a fireball, had been over microwaved, too hot, then hard. Was overcharged £5, too. Real shame!
