We went to the Eliot arms for a roast dinner, whilst on holiday, which did not disappoint. We had the mixed meat roast which was very good. As a preference I'd like my potatoes crispier, but really, I can't complain! So much so we would go back when in the area again, and would recommend. The crumble was by far one of the best and most tasty we have had out. The mint sauce was the best we've had out and really added to the meal, I wouldn't usually bother with it, but ate it with everything on my plate as it tasted vibrant and fresh. I love a good selection of veg with a roast and definitely got this at the Eliot Arms. Each food on the plate had it's own flavour and was very tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I like the character of the building which is higgledy piggledy inside with little eating areas divided up nicely. I felt this gives it a cosy quality, which we enjoyed rather than feeling thrown into one massive room. I really valued that they hadn't over crowded the tables and crammed extra in. If you have accessibility needs I would phone in advance as the ground floor had a couple of single steps and I didn't notice a disabled toilet. There was a disabled parking bay in the car park. They have a coffee machine which is good. I would recommend, since the food is of a high standard that it would be nice to offer a good quality hot chocolate. I noticed the famous purple brand beginning with a C but wouldn't say that is a quality of drink which reflects the pub and the rest of their produce. Though I do understand that drinks are often an add on or afterthought for many pubs and restaurants, for me it is the kind of thing I would indulge in after a meal (we were not rushed to leave after eating by staff at all so I don't feel that's the reason). A decent hot drink when staying in a hotel I feel is also a bonus that adds to the comfort. Apologies, the photo I have attached is not the pub's presentation as I'd already begun to eat and took the photo for my mum, not this. I thought it may help people see what's available and how vibrant the veg is.

We stopped by as a group of 10 children and adults, a welcomed rest after a big walk! On ordering, the gentlemen serving was really helpful with allergies and alternative meals, as they were out of gluten free pasta. It was agreed my son would have a chicken burger with an alternative bun (as it contained egg). I was feeling confident. On serving the food, the lady delivering it brought 2 chicken burgers that looked identical to the table and said 'that's the different one' and promptly left. When she brought the next lot of food, I questioned this as was expecting one bun to be different, her response was very curt and dismissive, as if allergies were an inconvenience to her. My 4 yr old having a life threatening allergy, is not something I take lightly. Eventually, on the 3rd trip back out, once the food was already cold, she confirmed they were identical and both safe, again she was very rude in her tone. I appreciate they were busy, but this is no excuse. Overall the food was good, but I could not relax and enjoy the experience. The lady needs upskilling on her allergy awareness!

Booking handled in a very friendly but professional manner. Welcomed and shown to same large secluded table as we had last time. Again everyone enjoyed their food with special praise, this time, for the desserts (sticky toffee pud. and brownie). Servers were excellent - friendly and attentive but above all, considering our number, extremely patient (once more, 'A big thank you for that).

We stayed at this delightful pub for 4 days dinner, bed and breakfast in late August. We were very happy with our room with a very comfortable bed and everything in the room provided for our stay. The food was very good with plenty of choice, and we were well looked after by the staff who were friendly and helpful. The only issue on Sunday they don't serve meals in the evening but the late lunch was delicious. Breakfast on Monday morning was slow as a member of staff was off sick and they cook everything individually to order. We would happily return.

The food was really good but the lady with dark hair that served us was truly one of the rudest people I have come across in hospitality. She literally rolled her eyes at me when I asked to amend one of the orders , she had a young guy training with her he was lovely but the way she spoke to him & us was appalling. We have had a problem here before with a previous manager and we didn’t go back for a year but thought we would try it again, just seems they have swapped one rude manager for another. It’s a shame it’s local and a really nice pub, but when I go out and pay good money for food, drinks and service I don’t expect to be made to feel uncomfortable. I couldn’t wait to get out of there, like I say the food is good but why the staff keep reminding you the kitchen is closing (same last year) is beyond me?

Gezellige pub, die professioneel wordt beheerd. Eerlijke, smakelijke gerechten. Sommige zijn echte uitschieters: de huisbereide hamterrine, de gegrilde makreel. Van de sirloin steak (met perfecte frietjes) waren we minder enthousiast. Zeer scherpe prijzen voor het eten, normale prijzen voor de drank

I visited this pub/restaurant with 10 friends. It is a very quaint, cosy country pub with a high standard restaurant. We had a variety of lunches which in the main was enjoyed by all. The only complaint I heard was about the Lemon Tart as apparently the pastry was a bit soggy and the filling wasn't very lemony. The 3-courses I had were very tasty albeit a bit pricey. The staff were very friendly, polite, helpful and professional

We were staying at the water park and so came here for our last night’s meal. Although most of us enjoyed our food, we had a vegetarian with us and were very disappointed that there was only one option for them. The staff clearly like working here , they were having a good banter and they made us feel very welcome. The interior was very nice, and it felt calm and peaceful, but it did not make up for what I’m about to share with you… I was very disappointed to say we had two starters of calamari between four of us. We were lucky to scrape two pieces each and I felt it was a lot of money for what we had. Moving to the main courses while the options were extensive, we were all disappointed with what we had. My friend, opted for a fish pie. It was listed as served with green vegetables. It’s actually arrived with cauliflower and it looked an appealing and boring. The staff member said she could get some beans to my disappointment. It was not recovered well at all because I was actually charged for them and truthfully. How do I notice that on my bill at the time, I would have mentioned my disappointment. My friend had a risotto. She reported it as planned. My other friend had a salad he rated it was nothing special, and I can’t even remember what my main course was even though it was two months ago because I came away feeling it was absolutely average whatever I had! On that basis, considering it was £140 I felt ripped off and I would not return .

The recent refurbishment has been a success resulting in beautiful surroundings, the food is excellent and yet quite expensive and the staff are lovely, however, the management have now lost control totally in relation to a group of young males who display a constant disdain towards basic manners, norms, values and acceptable behaviour. In just two nights recently, I witnessed members of the aforementioned group drinking in the beer garden without shirts on, upsetting fellow customers within the bar with extremely loud antisocial behaviour including the regular use of offensive language, rudeness towards members of staff and finally directed verbal crude abuse towards myself whilst I was ordering at the bar. I have appealed to the management on different occasions for control measures to be implemented in relation to this group, but they are clearly Ill equipped and/or far too intimidated to offer any support. It is with regret that myself, my partner and a number of close friends will now be taking our loyalty (and money) to alternative establishments. We wish the Eliot Arms good luck for the future with their ‘chosen’ clientele! ☹️

Great locals pub. Good choice of cask ales and a nice pint of Guinness. Friendly staff and customers.

Stayed at Lower Mill Estate for three nights at the beginning of January, preempted a Sunday roast and booked for four adults and two children on Sunday afternoon at 14:00. Seated early which was great but a long time between ordering and actually receiving our meals. In the interim we were advised that they had run out of chicken breasts for the Sunday lunch, albeit disappointing but cannot be helped. I did not catch the waiters name but he offered us some complimentary olives which were gladly received. Four roast dinners arrived at the table and two children’s meals, all ok except the beef was inedible. One served as rare but I was unable to cut it even after asking for a second opinion from my husband, it was mostly fat. The second asked to be cooked well done was just a burnt end again completely inedible. The waiter did ask if everything was ok with the food but by the time we received it we were past the point of wanting an alternative if it was offered. Following this we waited for fifteen to twenty minutes to have a gin and tonic and a pint of lager in a near empty restaurant so we gave up before we were given the chance to ask for dessert. An okay experience by all accounts but the time waiting and the meal offered for the price made us question whether we will return. We may have been unlucky but just left a dampener on an otherwise lovely stay here.

We have just had the most delicious dinner. The menu is different to the norm and is beautifully presented. We cannot fault the food and my husband who has been in catering for over 30 years is impressed. So much so our family of 10 will be back in the New Year for a special dinner. The waiting staff are knowledgeable, attentive and keen to ensure the clients' satisfaction. The prices are fair considering this is a special experience, not a cafe. The best meal we have eaten in a long while. Thank you.

The food was tasty, although it was only lukewarm when it arrived. The first drinks order only reached the table after the food had arrived. We'd ordered the "festive menu" which the website says comes with shared vegetables for the table, but weren't served. When asked, the server said this was an "optional extra" but there isn't an option to order this on the website. The restaurant had the temerity to automatically include a 10% tip on the bill, which isn't mentioned on their website.

A lovely tea shop on the High St. I sat outside the front on the limited pavement seating. The staff were lovely and the food well presented. The pasty was though expensive and there was no wow factor. The ice bun was heavy and sticky. The coffee was delicious. Would return but not spend so much.
